Nice review. Within my fish room I have a total of 13 Aquaclear filters, mostly Aquaclear 70. I’ve been a fan of them for years since they are proven and offer plenty of room for media. Recently I added three new Aqueon 60B aquariums. The Aquaclear 70 did not fit since the lip of the new tanks is too wide. Rather than upgrading to the Aquaclear 110’s, I decided to buy three new Seachem Tidal 75 and give those a try. Game changer! I really like the features of the Tidal 75. The media basket offers plenty of space. The internal pump and self priming feature is much appreciated. Best of all, there’s no o-ring, or outside connections that can result in leaked water outside of the tank. As the Aquaclear filters expire, I will replace them with Seachem Tidals. 👍
Had a Tidal 55 running for two years on my 60 litre tropical community aquarium. While generally a great filter and very quiet, it is not perfect. Had to upgrade mine by adding a sponge pre-filter on the intake to reduce fine filter floss blocking too quickly and keeping the impeller a bit cleaner. Also, had to drill additional holes in the bottom of the media basket to reduce bypass. It has been very reliable and easy to maintain but bypass is a common complaint once the fine filter gets even slightly mucky, the additional holes are a must in my experience. Cheers for the review 👍
Ive got one 35 one 110 and three 75 tidal hob been in the hobby for over 40 plus years and ive had all kinds of hob filters. By far these are the best hob's I've ever had just love them.
I like the Tidals and often use them with various media to polish a tank or seed media or dose one of the various resin products I use on occasion. The only issue with them is if you don't stay on top of evaporation they will start sucking air and are extremely loud while doing so. And that issue is on the fish keeper...not the filter.
I have goldfish, I need lg. capacity filter. For years,I use a power head 324gph tube to top of the tank to a lg. clear plastic container, I made a pvc spry bar, I use 3 aqua sponge filters and quilt batting pile. So easy to change floss, rinse sponges monthly. Clean hose monthly w/power head. Easy
Hi Graeme. I have just purchased this. Do you still use this & also i see many reviews about water by passing being an issue. Have you made any mods to this at all?
I've tested it out for 2 years and it disappoints for me. The tank needs to be a certain height anything 15 inches and above is OK. The surface skimmer still sucks in detritus. Difficult to prefilter but is possible Maintenance indicator after time always floats so indicates nothing. It's huge. It's quite inefficient Fish will swim into the outlet plecs particularly and there odontoides get stuck in the filter bags and they can die. On the whole it's good for novice aquarist and 1 maybe 2 tank set ups. Any sizeable fish room it's not good. maybe tanks that need minimal flow it's going to be good.
@@AquariumAdventures It certainly has its place if your new to the hobby and a bit lax with maintenance it's a game changer if you 20 tanks like me and enjoy doing water changes its an unnecessary expense that will kill your plecs certainly when they swim up the outlet personally I have a 110 a 75 and two 55s and they are all back in their boxes.
@@khiburgess5848 Well, I'm not new to the hobby, have over 20 tanks, and think its great - but each to their own, I did say it wouldn't be for everyone. The capacity and low running costs in comparison to others in the class sold it for me.
@@AquariumAdventures Oh yeah cool I know your not new and have ample tanks, and yes each to there own I'm glad you like it, for me generally it's fine but there are issues some if which are the ones I found for me. The efficiency for me is questionable I put mine on a meter to check efficiency and it didn't get close the claims in the instructions when you dialled up the flow it obviously gets worse. Glad you like it though I've been watching you for quite a while now.

Good point about the o-ring / leaks!

I have a 55 in a 90cm, and a 35 in a 60cm tank, two amazing filters. and self priming.. just chunky..

Hi Graeme.
Nice review as always.
Have you any updates on mega tank? 🙂
Soon - i'm mostly just staring at the glass wondering how to lift it into the tank at the moment!

Not bad actually. I hate hob bc of noise lol
can i use tidal 110 for 90G salt water tank?
According to Seachem, yes.
@@AquariumAdventures i see, thank you! I might really buy this.

But apart from that its great, yeah?
