So far my favorite Gunner build has been the minigun with the Burning Hell overclock, which spews fire out of the barrel in addition to bullets, and makes the gun overheat 150% faster, along with the Hot Bullets upgrade which causes your bullets to deal fire damage when you get to about half overheat, as well as increasing the overheat rate by an additional 50% for a total of 200%. This might sound bad because of how quickly you overheat, but not only does this allow you to light the entire room you are in on fire, but give it a few seconds and you can light the entire next room on fire too. To top all of this off is the revolver with the Volatile Bullets overclock, which decreases base damage by 10, but increase damage against burning targets by 300%. Since your main gun lights everything you get near on fire, this allows you to clear hordes, praetorians, and oppressors alike in a matter of seconds, light em up till they catch flame, 2 tap with the revolver. This build is especially good if the Driller is rocking the flamethrower, and Scout the flaming crossbow, so you can 1 tap big bugs without even needing to use the minigun.
Lead Storm Overclock negative can also be mitigated by just jumping everywhere like a bunny. You can shoot in the air, so essentially play CS:GO and b-hop everywhere to have no loss to your mobility.

in warframe pistols are often the damage option of choice because promaries usually have much larger clear (and usually better ammo too), so DRG's design isn't quite so strange to me
The good thing about having to rely on secondaries to deal more damage is basically spicing up gameplay. You'd think secondaries are just back-up weapons for when you need to reload or have no more ammo on primary. But in reality, secondary weapons perform secondary roles of the dwarf.
Using the thunderhead autocannon I like to get larger ammo overlock, larger magazine, faster speed, even faster speed and armor penetration. Try it out. My magazine holds 220 bullets and it fires almost as fast as the minigun. It breaks through and obliterates enemies reallllly fast. @@AtomicAlchemist It's a meme/stereotype in the community. You often see gunners ping nitra that they could mine themselves without even having to jump. An exageration of "I'm here to kill bugs and I will do nothing else"
To answer the main "question" that I recon is purely rhetorical but eh: The reason your sidearm (mostly) is the big boss killer is honestly very simple. Good game design. If you sidearms only function is to be used if you're main gun failed then ... why even have it. Make the game more about resource management and forgo the sidearm as a whole. Doom 2016 compared to Eternal did a great case study on that topic. And with limited weapon slots you'd want to have design space to make every slot count. Reducing one to a glorified "best to never use" slot is a massive waste of potential for gameplay alteration and player choice. But the main focus of the game is on killing lots of things, so it makes sense that most primaries are designed to be good at killing many bugs. They have to be ... "somewhat" bad at killing one large enemy tho for you to have a reason to switch out. And when you build both slots to be decent at killing hordes *and* killing single targets (which is possible) you'll find that in actuality all you did was hamper your ability to do either. Now you're slow at killing hordes and slow at killing single targets.
I mean, yah. You are just correct. I feel like it is less relevant of a concept on Driller because of his ability to ignore armor and do damage to things on accident (and the fact that I use Face Melter and just hog all the ammo) but I arrived at the same conclusion as you.
2:19 Bit of context for that salvo mode- it's an overclock. Upgrade your gun, promote at least one dwarf, get your tritilyte key and look for a little white box next to a big machine. Then pray you're lucky enough to get the option for a Gunner weapon overclock, hit that up and hope it's the right one. What? It's RNG? But of course. You didn't _actually_ think it would be as easy as _picking it,_ did you?
Well as much gunners are needed for some missions I find some greenbeards using that class don’t realize they have it and figured out sooner or later. Greenbeards, “oh wait what’s this 4th utility? Oh a shield…… should be placing it down when I revive my brethren’s instead of taking unnecessary damage.” The one thing I encounter so many times that I have to msg in chat “you have deployable shields, please use them to revive one of us!” and proceeds to not listen and we lose the mission because of the one greenbeard. I swear these days no one is playing in Solo to learn their classes, or the game, instead they join sessions that have Haz4 or 5 and they still can’t handle it… and the times they leave when they get downed too many times. If it’s an assignment of yours to be done why leave to do it all over again? So yeah I deal with them every single day but if they continue screwing over missions not using their shield, you are the reason we can’t complete the mission/assignment and end up gettin blocked from OUR sessions.
I'm no godly deep rock galactic pro but idk why people keep jumping in front of me when I'm gunner or driller. If I see the gunner in front of me firing explosive rounds at 20 enemies I stand back and help him from a distance. I don't JUMP INTO HIS LINE OF FIRE
If you don't have a source of fear try sticky nades on praetorians, they'll turn their butts at you for shooting. I use incendiary myself most of the time as I find it has the best killing potential when used right, DoTs are really good in this game. I strongly recommend trying fear on the autocannon or coilgun though. On AC you'll find it makes it easier to tame big swarms and have some of them them stop attacking you which is quite welcome on high haz. With the coilgun it's more useful for the team as it has a massive radius and is mostly guaranteed to fear anything that can be feared, so you could shoot it near a teammate in trouble from across the cave. I know neurotox payload is the overused gunner build, I'm a big bertha enjoyer myself. With the ammo, fire rate and direct damage upgrades it's both strong and never seems to run out! Explosive magic bullets bulldog can give you your neurotox fix, but I've been trying out hellfire coilgun lately for amazing AoE, like having more incendiary grenades, and to help wear down big targets all the faster
Only use fear on nerotox payload, on all the other autocannon builds you just the bugs move away from the splash, nerotox slows them down and makes the fear last longer, because the fear makes them run from the blasts for i think 5 meters.
I used to main scout, now I main gunner. I just wanted the game to play slower for me. Be more relaxed. The overclock bullet hell on the minigun takes the mental stress away. I just shoot and everything around me dies.
I'd say gunner's secondary is the go-to single target weapon, the minigun and autocannon (haven't unlocked the rocket launcher yet) take time to spin up, and are pretty inaccurate.
I often ran Gunner on solo missions, but recently began playing online. Due to me playing solo and having to use zip lines perfectly just to survive, teammates often use zip lines. Additionally, as a bastion main, I was very at home with overclocks that decrease mobility. As a silver 2 gunner main I can confidently say all statements in this are correct and the WOOooooOOoo rocket gun is fun. Though everything is fun in DRG to be honest. Except for cave leeches.
For the Grenades: The Sticky Grenade makes whatever bug it sticks to turn around and run in the opposite direction. Which means you can hit multiple bugs if you manage to stick one cuz he'll run back to his friends like a little bitch. Molotov Cocktail and MIRV, nothing special with those, really. The Gun Grenade is actually a Detonator, well, detonator. Plop a couble below a Bulk and watch its health plummet like the Gunner who fell off his zipline 40 meters up.
Hell yeah. I really like Gunner. Sure, all the other classes have their cool utilities and tools, but me, personally? I just want a big-ass gun. Can't go wrong with that.
I'm new to the game, and so far Gunner is my favorite class. Because I don't really have to think, I just kite bugs and let the Scout, Engineer, and Driller do the thinking. One I'm more familiar with the game, I will start using the more cerebral classes in multiplayer. *If scout counts as cerebral 😂
gunner is the most cerebral trust me, driller can ignore a hill, engineer can make a course and scout skips it over, you have to either pull out trigonometry for a zip line or parkour your way up, positioning is a bitch and if you can make it work on gunner you will be fine with about half the games difficulty
I came back to the minigun solely because of the Ricochet overclock. Holy fuck is that a swarm _annihilator_ And then i realized minigun is just a great gun overall

Well, the gunner has the worst equipment for mining, no platforms to make a convenient ledge, no drill to get to the ore and no unlimited-use grappling hook to get to high up ores, just a few ziplines that move at 0,5 kmh
@@AtomicAlchemist It's a meme/stereotype in the community. You often see gunners ping nitra that they could mine themselves without even having to jump. An exageration of "I'm here to kill bugs and I will do nothing else"
Gotta love how easy it is to play gunner it's so straight forward if your new to the game.
M1+W=WIN
To answer the main "question" that I recon is purely rhetorical but eh:
The reason your sidearm (mostly) is the big boss killer is honestly very simple.
Sticky grenade, fire grenade, grenade grenade, bullet grenade
As a gunner player
"Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"- my gun
Gotta love DRG: the game where you wanna save your SECONDARY for DPS
This video is amazing, you deserve way more subs!

Bit of context for that salvo mode- it's an overclock.
Greenbeards,
“oh wait what’s this 4th utility? Oh a shield…… should be placing it down when I revive my brethren’s instead of taking unnecessary damage.”
The one thing I encounter so many times that I have to msg in chat “you have deployable shields, please use them to revive one of us!” and proceeds to not listen and we lose the mission because of the one greenbeard.
Me using mods so I can use any thing I want in any slot:
i love it when gunner said its gunning time and gunned all over the place
Only use fear on nerotox payload, on all the other autocannon builds you just the bugs move away from the splash, nerotox slows them down and makes the fear last longer, because the fear makes them run from the blasts for i think 5 meters.
the fucking Glock at the Costco parking lot killed me. I had to pause cuz i was choking.
everyone hates gunners until they are all downed and he solos the entire wave
For the Grenades:
The Sticky Grenade makes whatever bug it sticks to turn around and run in the opposite direction. Which means you can hit multiple bugs if you manage to stick one cuz he'll run back to his friends like a little bitch.
Molotov Cocktail and MIRV, nothing special with those, really.
The Gun Grenade is actually a Detonator, well, detonator. Plop a couble below a Bulk and watch its health plummet like the Gunner who fell off his zipline 40 meters up.
good video, man, i really enjoyed it
still gonna play scout and only scout though
Hell yeah.
I really like Gunner. Sure, all the other classes have their cool utilities and tools, but me, personally? I just want a big-ass gun. Can't go wrong with that.
3:00 Best joke in the video imo
Lead storm is the superior minigun overclock you can still move and shot if you learn de way of jump and shot.
WAITWAITWAIT...so if gunner tries to reload an empty hurricane to play with the rocket, he gets frustrated! GOD DAMN THIS GAME IS SO GOOD.
I'm new to the game, and so far Gunner is my favorite class. Because I don't really have to think, I just kite bugs and let the Scout, Engineer, and Driller do the thinking. One I'm more familiar with the game, I will start using the more cerebral classes in multiplayer. *If scout counts as cerebral 😂
gunner is the most cerebral trust me, driller can ignore a hill, engineer can make a course and scout skips it over, you have to either pull out trigonometry for a zip line or parkour your way up, positioning is a bitch and if you can make it work on gunner you will be fine with about half the games difficulty
xD I love these videos! Just discovered you today. (Found the scout one first)
Why? Because I require MORE firepower!
I came back to the minigun solely because of the Ricochet overclock.
Holy fuck is that a swarm _annihilator_
And then i realized minigun is just a great gun overall
