      Yeah, and all smokie needs to do is talk to them like he did with claire and sayid. Sawyer didn’t know it but he was being manipulated into bringing all the candidates into the submarine. Thankfully desmond brought back the good sayid to his senses, smokie didn’t know about their time in the freighter. They probably bonded so well after the constant and became besties. 🥰
      Also when the helicopter landed in the freighter, who did desmond run to? To explain the bomb? Sayid.

    I just love how MIB has watched people for thousands of years and thinks he knows them so well. So evil, so corrupt, so self-serving. That's how MIB views people.
    He doesn't understand Desmond and I think that scares him just a little bit.

    • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 Рік тому +5

      He wonders if it's already destined for him to push Desmond down the well, and if it would hurt his plans to get off the island. MIB's biggest fear is that everything is designed to always be one step ahead of him, because that's exactly how Jacob arranged everything. He pushed him down the well anyways out of anger, because if he can't trust himself to do what he wants, then he'll be frozen in fear about what to do and then definitely won't ever be able to leave the island....but that too is part of Jacob's plan of setting everything up to be one step ahead of him.
      Jacob simply knew MIB too well, to the point that no matter what MIB tried to do, Jacob was always one step ahead of him. MIB knew it too, but he was hoping that eventually Jacob would make a mistake. Except Jacob didn't make mistakes, because he was more powerful than MIB, able to travel through time and exist after death as long as his ashes were burning. When MIB kicked Jacob in the fire, he unwittingly did exactly what Jacob wanted him to do. That's why the fire was set to begin with. That allowed Jacob to transcend time and basically had all the time in the world to go visit people and execute his plans. When you see Jacob visiting people off the island, from Jacob's perspective, this is after his death, because physically Jacob was never actually there, he was just a manifestation.
      It was MIB's rash anger that was ultimately his undoing. It's what blinded him to moments where it should have been obvious Jacob set everything up. He should have known that he wanted Ben to kill him, and that he set that fire in that room specifically because he knew MIB would kick him in it out of anger and finally being free of Jacob.

      Fear is probably the main weapon MiB used too, trying to use people's fear to get them to do what he wants. For the first time he has encountered someone with no fear and can't understand it.

    • @user-hu9vi7nk1l
      @user-hu9vi7nk1l 7 місяців тому

      Exactly, it makes mib seem so petty that Desmond has let go of all stake in the world because he knows about the afterlife but mib is still so emotionally invested in the world. And when he asks Desmond why he's not afraid he might think someone told him that mib cant kill him, which is why mib as always so cocky cause he knew he couldn't die

    • @user-hu9vi7nk1l
      @user-hu9vi7nk1l 3 місяці тому

      @@peoplez129 Jacob arranged everything by seeing the future the same way desmond did, and MiB knew Jacob could see the future. It's like Hurley said to Charlie "Any plan you come up with, he's gonna see it coming". Thats why MiB had to alter history with his time wheel to have a chance at beating Jacob. In this scene he probably wonders if Desmond has been told he can't be killed by MiB. Jacob left most people in the dark but he told some of his followers more than others. Dogan knew a lot more than anyone for example. Thats why he threw Desomond down the well, because MiB fears he knows too much.
      Jacob was always one step ahead, and MiB thought he finally had a victory when he killed Jacob with Ben, but thats why Jacob spoke to MiB not to show respect but to tell him he hasn't won anything, the candidates are coming, and you still can't leave. I think Jacob could've come back as a ghost even if his body didn't burn, that was just MiB being impatient and sadistic. And he never left the island when he was dead he confirmed that with Hurley.
      He thought he could win because he knew Jacob would follow his rules and his philosophy on not forcing anyone to do whats right, so MiB was right to think he could win but he always feared that Jacob would have an ultimate plan which is why he was genuinely afraid when Jack said he would kill him after he proved he just spoke with Jacob who gave him critical information. MiB always depended on Jacob leaving people in the dark.

      Well...there's more to it than that. Desmond felt the peace of knowing whatever THEY are, even Smokey can't touch there. He felt the peace that they all felt as they awakened in the pre-Afterlife. Desmond has been touched by the light to such a degree that he no longer has any fear and just goes with it. Jacob had that same peace. Jack does too. Locke actually got there as well, only he felt he failed and embraced the notion that he's supposed to die (as fed to him by Smokey through Richard & Christian).

      Oh he had a good feeling it was not for good intentions, but the reason he went is because literally the title of the video...he knew the ending and wasn't afraid anymore so he literally didn't care what happened to him here in a way,not that hes suicidal, just a lack of fear.....and yes even though with lack of fear would still instinctively scream being thrown down a well so the scene still works fine.

    • @victorpradha9946

      @@danielhicks4826 Desmond died before he actually died and realized that there is no true death. Once that happens...fear evaporates. With that, so goes the anger and inner conflict. As a result, Desmond becomes peaceful. If you note, he bashed the cr@p out of Widmore's head before they subjected Desmond to the EM test. Afterwards, Desmond was as cool as a cucumber.

      Its to establish that theres something different about Desmond and for MiB to recognise that and fear him in return. He doesnt like those who he cant use for his own ends, and using people for his own ends requires them to fear him and what he is. He knows Desmond is a weapon that has been brought to the island on Jacob's orders as a measure of last resort to kill him and that un-nerves him because he doesnt understand fully what kind of threat he represents. At the same time he decides that Desmonds resistance to electromagnetism is something he can use himself to leave the island, to destroy it. The well really is just somewhere he can keep Des until he needs him. Had he proved more fearful and malleable MiB might not have pushed him down there and would have recruited him but hislack of fear is unsettling to the MiB and he'd rather have him out the time being. Thats the purpose of the scene

      @victorpradha9946 8 місяців тому

      @@supremeworld87 I would only add to your thoughtful comment some 4 years later that, Smokey is a product of a human being either dying, dead or on the verge of death filled with fear, anger, frustration, judgment, loathing, a sense of isolation and disassociation (from his brother, his "mother" and his actual bio-mom, and the very people she came to the Island with that has been impacted by the Light directly. Desmond conversely is a man who is filled with love, faith, kinship, belonging, purpose, peace, trust etc. and has been touched, perhaps more than any other living human being, by the energy from the Light. It's quite possible that Desmond came into direct contact with Light when he turned the failsafe key. Desmond is the counterpoint to Smokey...imbued in some sense with the Light's power, but with goodness in his heart. Smokey is an embodiment of a fragment of the Light, but with darkness in his heart (filled with bitterness and resentment).
      MiB never saw what was "across the sea" but Desmond saw what was there. He visited the alternative reality where the Oceanic and Island's visitors went and perhaps even saw their journey into the Light itself. Desmond was fearless and understood, what Smokey never could...that the Light is his true home, that there is NOTHING Across the Sea but more of what he witnessed on the Island...flawed, broken, imperfect people stumbling, bumbling through their lives filled with mistakes and regrets but for the most part endeavoring to be good and noble and virtuous, but sometimes falling prey to fear and anger driven conflict and strife.
