    It was really shocking to see Charles so vulnerable in this scene. He's always been the one in charge, even when Ben breaks into his home and threatens to kill his daughter he's not phased.
    Something about him just hiding in a dark closet from the MiB is kind of terrifying to watch.

      One in charge? Ben schools him constantly. Ben owned Widmore throughout their entire relationship. He was more intelligent, more capable, more hands on, a better strategist, a better leader, enjoyed greater loyalty from Richard, I could go on and on. Widmore was a butthurt little bitch who was thick as pigshit in this scene and nearly doomed all of humanity to certain death with the important information he was leaking about Desmond. Thank god for Ben

Not for Whitmore but for Locke, Jacob, Cesar, Alex, trying to kill the main characters dozens of times, kidnapping children (Alex and Walt), lying to everyone, having Mikhail executed those 2 women at the underwater station, etc. I don't get how people forgive him just because he is supposedly sorry about everything that happened

      @@victorpradha9946I think this is accurate. The line "he doesn't get to save his daughter" can be interpreted two ways: on the surface it placates the MIB's plan, but he's really saying "but someone will save her as I will make sure you don't get to kill her either" as I believe at this point he is well on the road to redemption for his sins in the past 2 seasons.

    Yeah I hear a lot of people complaining about Ben's characterisation here after he had turned a corner but you have to understand he's trying to do nothing more than stay alive at this point, he's dealing with someone who's been around for 1000 years and is extremely difficult to deceive. He's just playing things minute by minute and doing whatever he can to prevent MiB from seeing him as useless and killing him. So he plays up to the old Ben. Remember Ben's is a crossed off candidate so can be killed by MiB at any time.

    Because Jacob had made these rules so that Ben couldn't hurt any of the 'candidates', back then Widmore was technically a candidate so he couldn't be killed, however once Jacob was dead, his rules no longer applied. In any case, Ben wanted to make Widmore suffer the same pain that he did.

    • @atiqaly6567
      @atiqaly6567 6 років тому +3

      chcikenpencil jacobs dead so his rules dnt apply?? then why couldnt men in black kill the candidates??. i think charles and ben couldnt kill eachother because they had their own rules but they could change them, just like charles manage to kill bens daughter, not the same rules like jacob and his brother had or the candidates where they just couldnt break them.

    • @bobdonda
      @bobdonda 4 роки тому +2

      Yeah, it's clear that are rules in place even after Jacob's death. No one can directly kill candidates, MIB can't leave unless candidates leave with him, etc.
      The fact is that we don't get to know what all of the rules are. It does seem that there is a rule of "Others can't kill others". Widmore broke the rule when Alex was killed.. or maybe he circumvented the rule since he didn't pull the trigger, but had Keamy (a non-Other, technically?) pull the trigger.
      It seems that Ben saw this as deciding that technicalities are now in play, and Penny might not technically be an Other so she can be killed now. That's what "changing the rules" meant. Ben even tried to kill her himself.
      It actually kind of mirrors the Jacob/MIB situation. MIB can't kill Jacob, but found a loophole by getting an Other to kill Jacob. Just like Widmore can't kill Ben or Alex, but found a loophole by getting a non-Other to do it for him.

      Like when he's describing the well to Desmond and he goes," right yeah very old" it reminds me of my grandmother often tgroughtout the day she takes a breather, normal activities that she once had blown through seem now as if they are a herdle of obsticles she pushes herself to get through, it's when she takes a moment and leans into whatever arm chair or counter top is closest to her, she'll have that stationary immobile look about her but she'll be shruggen her shoulders at times like she's all about in for the ride. Ellie may be old in her 70's but Grandmother Mary Cisco made it to 89 and had the personality of the white witch of Oz while Ellie is nowhere near as ballsy as the wicked witch she must had been the sister whom dorthey's house landed on. When I were a boy I was as bright and rosey as Regan McNeill until it were that all the outsiders and the adults wished to try and steal my happiness away so I could be wretched like them. This only encouraged me into becoming master at dark arts of lords while still a very much devoted to God, I am ever so loyal, to the lord of lords in his majesty that hovers over the world and the king of kings, nature's man, and enlightened saviors, missionaries protect after the sick and weak. Something of an antichrist spirit brings final heed and warning. In place of Christ is an anti with traits of a tyrant , quick to be called an agent of evil, however I believe there are those with the antichrist spirit that are living out Christ's agenda, doing his will, in their own fassion, from an extreme angle, and opposite side of the spectrum. But shall come to be known as triumphant in their doing, someday there will be no room for all this confusion and the truth will be consumed like living a flashback to an alternate reality however rather than having memories of past lives coming back to you, it's another version of the truth, what went down in history, you get to watch from the perspective of say an angel or Say10, and imagine rediscovering 10 planets in all their glory while having the freedom to decide/choose which great adventure might you wanna go on? Not all men, the evil boogiemen of history, are understood for the way they should be talked about and discussed today, anyones opinion if that, is completely narrow minded.

HAHAHA. As a result of that MiB suggests Widmore to whisper instead of losing time trying to convince Ben to leave. This is gorgeus how in the most serius scenes they menaged to include such a hilarious pieces. Look closely at MiBs face betwen 2:01 - 2:05 is like when you tell your child to clean up the room for the hundred time but he still doesn't listen and you give up. In fact that is the moment when Widmore is willing to co-work with MiB just to survive and Ben is there to make sure that doesn't happen for two reasons. For the well being of the island. And because it is what he is currently doing - working with MiB to survive. Ben was affraid that Widmore would be more waluable to MiB than he is.

      @@-GearUp There's a fair chance that Ben clearly did want to make Widmore pay for Alex getting executed by Keamy who Ben was convinced was sent by Widmore to do exactly what Keamy did...kill a whole bunch of people to get to Ben. Before coming back to the Island, Ben tried to kill Penny and was about to do it too, but for seeing baby Charlie. Ben still harbored quite a great deal of anger, resentment and vengefulness towards Widmore.
      But here, there's a strong argument to made that Ben used the fact that Smokey who have known that Ben wanted to kill Widmore to kill Widmore before Widmore to give Smokey the last "piece" of the puzzle he needs to get off the Island. On some level Ben still was in the service of the Island here, but also managed to get his revenge on Widmore too.

    Somewhat fitting that Ben executed Charles while knowing that a loved one was being threatened. Kind of mirrors Alex's execution when she died in despair hearing from her own "father" that she meant nothing to him. This was purely personal.
    In hindsight, Ben's line "he doesn't get to save his daughter" may have had a double meaning, and in fact is a direct threat to the MIB himself. Who, then, gets to save Penny? Ironically, I think at this stage Ben wants to be the one to do so as part of the plan to redeem himself for being manipulated into killing Jacob and for allowing Alex to die, given his character development in this final season.

      Ruthlessly killing anyone and everyone who stood in your way (of getting OFF the Island) kinda makes you a monster. Also, there 's a strong argument to be made that the Smoke thing was a non self-aware field of energy that served as a security system, but when MiB was tossed in there at the moment of his death, the Smoke thing became imprinted with MiBs consciousness giving IT the pathological need to get OFF the Island and also harbor the same disdain for humanity and hatred/vengefulness toward Jacob.

    • @DarthRushy
      @DarthRushy 5 років тому +9

      Well, in season 4, Ben mentions that Charles 'changed' the rules, so obviously they're flexible. I think it was just an "Others can't kill Others" thing that if they'd broken, would've ended badly for them. But by this point, the Others are no longer a force on the Island so nobody cares.

    • @bobdonda
      @bobdonda 4 роки тому +4

      The "rules" might also stop applying when an Other is trying to help MIB. Charles was betraying the good of the Island in exchange for the personal benefit of saving Penny's life, that's a betrayal of the Others and Ben is now free to shoot him.
      Until that point, they were both in service of Jacob, but were fighting over who got to hold power on the Island. Widmore never stopped supporting Jacob, he just wanted to be the leader of the Others again.
      I wish the show had spent more time on Widmore and explaining his motives, because it's really unclear at times. The show had a lot of unnecessary episodes, but it really needed one episode that explains Widmore's jealousy, and that his attempt to recapture power on the island is about his personal vendetta against Ben but NOT about betraying Jacob and the Others.

    • @KS-xk2so
      @KS-xk2so 2 роки тому +2

      @@victorpradha9946 I believe when people refer to rules, they are referring to two separate things. Jacob and MiB not being able to kill each other is due to a power the Guardian of the Light has. They have the ability to set certain "rules" on the Island, defining that small reality. They literally say they can't kill each other because "Mother made it that way". The Rules that Ben and Charles talk about, are probably just a set of laws or rules that Jacob asks his people to follow. However, they are not mystically enforced, just guidelines Jacob wants his people to follow, to help prove to his brother that people have good in them. If Jacob made them "Rules" with his power, like the rule that he and MiB cannot kill each other, then it would defeat the purpose of him trying to prove his brother wrong, as it would force people to do things.

      @@KS-xk2so I agree...Rules set by the Island's protector...imbued with the power of the Island's Source are actual rules. Like when Michael could NOT kill himself. The Island was NOT done with him. Or Jack and the dynamite thing with Richard inside the Black Rock. The Rules btw Ben and Charles were more like the laws of society. They can be broken and usually there will be consequences attached to violations. For example, Charles getting exiled from the Island for his off Island relationship and resulting child in Penny Widmore, or was he banished for his relationship with Eloise resulting in Daniel Faraday? Still, those rules can be broken.

    He wanted Widmore to know what it felt like when he lost Alex (he goes after his daughter, Penelope, not too long after this, timeline-wise). It wasn't enough for Ben to just kill Widmore.
    You see in 'Dead is Dead' that these "rules" are simply an unspoken agreement between the two, to prove the other wrong. @@christoffer4862 it's such a rushed and lame change to Widmore's character at the last minute. I forget where it is, probably the episode where Widmore died though I'm not sure.
      Widmore just says "Jacob spoke to me and convinced me of the error of my ways" and suddenly he's not a bad guy anymore. All these years he's been a ruthless killer and massive asshole but now he's on the good guys' side.
      I mean, it's not the worst thing ever... Widmore always wanted to be leader of the Others, he wanted to be Jacob's #1 servant, he wanted to be the one to protect the island... it does make sense that if Jacob appeared Widmore would obey.
      But this man has been one of the worst bad guys of the entire series, and they couldn't just give us one scene of that meeting? Jacob telling him "stop being a whiny bitch worrying about who's in charge, and start taking action to save the island now"... the audience deserves to see why he changed.
      Anyway, apparently Widmore somehow knew that Desmond and his electromagnetic resistance is super important, which is why he brought Desmond to the island and immediately tested to make sure it was true.
      The only explanation for Widmore doing this is that Jacob told him about the plug and that Desmond's abilities would be needed there... or at least Jacob vaguely told him about Desmond's power and that it would be needed somewhere, somehow.
