    Thanks to Curly Proverbz, I’m officially a henna head. 😝 My shedding decreased dramatically after introducing henna into my wash day routine.
    Henna glosses work best for me. I mix one spoon of henna with water to make a paste (I prepare this the night before wash day and let it sit overnight so that the Lawson dye can take effect) and I put that into my deep conditioner. After deep conditioning, I do the LCO method and style. Game changer!!!! I am retaining massive amounts of length.

      I haven’t used it in a while because I’ve gotten lazy and I’m trying to get through all my store bought products but I will definitely be going back to making the ayervedic products. I basically had no shedding when I was using henna regularly.

      I need to start doing this. I've been using cassia plus other Ayurvedic herbs consistently for about 2 years now but need a boost and have been watching these videos as a refresher. Congrats on retaining more length!
      P.S. When you say one spoon, do you mean tablespoon or teaspoon? I've been reluctant to use henna because I don't want to change my hair colour but might have to put that aside to get the strengthening benefits.

    • @ladys6431
      @ladys6431 5 років тому +3

      ulala9898 I was initially concerned about the henna coloring my hair but it turns out that it’s very slight and barely noticeable. I use one teaspoon per week so it’s a slow, gradual strengthener.

    I took your advice and made a henna and chebe mask. I love it and hate it. It's messy and smelly but it made my hair so soft and it literally transformed my Afro to a curly coily texture. It was so soft. I appreciate you and your sharing. This is a blessing. As a male I always received negative feedback on my hair. Now that I'm older and using natural remedies I'm seeing healthier hair and receiving positive comments. Mahalo and Aloha from Hawaii. Yes black people live in Hawaii too. Lol. 😁👌🏾❤️😏

    For dryness after a henna mask, I use a fresh aloe vera leaf (blended and strained) along with Aussie 3 minute deep conditioner. I then sit under a dryer for 20 minutes and then rinse. Hope this helps!

    Henna is doing great things for my hair and I am able to retain length which is great!
    Adding the aloe Vera is a beautiful touch, I tend to mix the henna with brewed coffee, lavender essential oil, cacao powder and conditioner
    My hair is starting to get this really rich deep brown reddish colour which is 😍
    Gonna start adding oils to the glosses again, the last treatment was drying and it’s getting colder now so either olive or avocado oil will be perfect to use

    I use their red raj, aloe, amla and indigo for my gray hair. I should try the slippery elm next. I usually do my roots with a straight mask then I will mix the rest into a gloss for my lengths every 6 weeks. I sometimes skip the gloss and just do my roots. I’m a henna head for life. Keeps my 50 +yo selfs hair long, shiny and healthy.

    • @nicholeh1280
      @nicholeh1280 5 років тому +1

      I too use the red raj for gray coverage. Do you find the grays on your length get good color coverage from the gloss? I've been hesitant to use a gloss because henna takes so much time/effort. I need the coverage.

    • @TracyD2
      @TracyD2 5 років тому +1

      Deadra Rahaman It does but it is work sometimes. It didn’t cover each and every one. There were times in my temple area I had to go back in again. I have a lot of gray though. So for me even though it doesn’t cover every single one the overall look for me is beautiful. Truthfully if there ever was a safe hair dye without ppd and all those dangerous chemicals that I’m sensitive to I would use that 2x a year and the rest of the time henna/indigo. Until then I use the herbs.

    • @TracyD2
      @TracyD2 5 років тому +1

      Nichole H I will cover the lengths with the straight herbs around every 3 months and the other times I’ll mix it in the oil and/or conditioner for a gloss so as not to dry my hair out. The gloss does cover the gray some. Like I commented to someone else. It’s not going to cover gray like chemicals and I wish there was a safe hair dye I could use like once maybe twice a year and the rest of the time use herbs but until then I try to make it a labor of love. Not only that it keeps my hair long and shiny.

    • @TracyD2
      @TracyD2 5 років тому +1

      Lola Ready yes I mix up henna wait for dye release then I mix up the indigo right before I want to use it. Then I mix it together for dark brown color. Like a 25%/75% mix. The indigo is a black with greenish blue tint sometimes. That’s why it’s usually done with henna to balance those green blue tones. Also I have heard that indigo needs henna to stay on the hair longer. I have seen people with lighter hair just use indigo alone and their hair turned jet black with out greenish blue tone. Maybe it depends on the batch.

    Hello curly, I stumbled across one of your videos from 2 years ago. And I am saying this in the kindest possible way because you are one of the best at helping others with natural hair care from nourishing your hair not coating it. And, you are a great help.
    Your hair 2 years ago looks better than now. It was super defined and silky looking. Almost like a 3b more than a 3c or combo of both. Better put closer to your daughter's hair but thicker. Not that hair grade counts. But products can sometimes affect our hair adversely.
    Now it looks like a thick long mass of sometimes frizzy looking hair. You may be doing too much. I know you do a lot to keep bringing us these videos. And new content sometimes isn't easy. So you try a bunch of new things. Look at your hair growth oil video from 2 years ago. This comment is for you to take a look at what I noticed. Not to dog you. It just looked different. I follow your channel and it surprised me by what I saw. Just making you aware. Your first hair oil mix super defined your hair.

    Love 💕 this vid. Just did my aloe vera/w a drop of rosemary oil. I’m corn 🌽 rowing because I have an event tomorrow and I like the volume corn rowing gives my hair. I use Henna every week. But I also do a hot oil treatment once a month, that stopped the breakage/dryness . I also use henna to cover my gray strands. Luckily the red tint it gives my hair compliments my skin tone. Also have to say once again the NattyNaturals leave in conditioner has made a noticeable difference in my hair care progress. Thanks Curly. Have a great week‼️

    • @thankful222
      @thankful222 5 років тому

      Hello Givenchy. Be very careful using henna with relaxed hair. I would not recommend it without much research and preparation. Relaxed tresses are in a weakened state and the overpowering strength of the henna will break the relaxed hair if not applied properly and appropriate strength.

    • @ALSTON3724
      @ALSTON3724 5 років тому +3

      How often is it safe to Henna relaxed hair?
      Most chemically relaxed henna users refresh their henna color every 4-6 weeks. Henna can be used in the last week or two leading up to a relaxer, and as soon as a week following the relaxer application. Since henna does coat the hair shaft, it can interfere with typical relaxer straightening for some individuals. Henna on the hair shaft can act as a barrier to the relaxer- similar to a heavy basing. If you are one who prefers bone straight hair, then you'll either need to henna well in advance of your relaxer or wait until just after (growafricanhairlong.blogspot.com/2012/04/is-henna-safe-for-coloring-chemically.html?m=1).

      Hausas in the North grow henna because it is used traditionally there. You will need to shift it to make it smooth before using. Or you can buy from the many places that do body art henna. Aloe vera grows everywhere. I know someone in Abuja who cuts it from outside her house. Watch UA-cam videos on how to make your own aloe vera gel.

      Check out nappilynigeriangirl.com. she is very helpful and I think she sells ayurvedic oil infusions. She used to live in the north I think that is where she gets her henna. There are also local alternatives. Try native black soap mixed with aloe vera, ask your local mallam if they have henna, and native shea butter is awesome. My fave is native coconut oil (the type grandmothers used to use to cook). Since I went back to old school and spent less money, my hair has done better. Best of luck :-)

I used henna to colour my hair monthly for six months and I noticed that my hair would not curl and was looking straight, especially the sides that are very grey. I thought it was heat damage but couldn't understand as I hadn't used heat in more than a year. Then I realised colour damage may look like heat damage. I am having to transition again.

    I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and I appreciate them. My question is are their different qualities in the henna and other herbs when purchasing for hair. You know as different products become popular for our hair other companies want to jump aboard and try to indulge in the the dollar driven business from us. This is why I appreciate you speaking on different products you use. Now my concern is the purchasing of quality herbs to use in my hair for growth and thickness.
