Thanks Cory! While visiting Rome has been fun, not even as close to being as rewarding as the mission. We were really blessed for the opportunity to have served there.
Great information, wish I had seen this video before I went to Italy the first time I went to Rome. It would have definitely reduced some stress for me!
Great tips - as ALWAYS - thank you so much!! I will use this advice for next time I visit for sure. The first (and only) time I went to Italy in 2018, I now realise how 'green' I was. I got ripped off thanks to my lack of knowledge. Your advice is gold. 🤩🤩
I travelled on Italo last year and TrenItalia this year. Although I didn’t cover the same route with the two different companies, some general observations. Italo do not have a café on board. They just have vending machines. On the trains I was on Italo was not as smooth, and was more noisy. The TrenItalia was smoother and more quiet. If you want to save money book well in advance. We got a two for one deal, going to Milan.
Have a great trip! September is a nice month in Rome, still crowded at tourist sites but very nice and also good weather. Thanks for taking time to watch the video
This was a great video. Glad I found it. Lots of us who watched it are going in September. I’ll be there for my anniversary 23rd anniversary. Thank you, Jesus.
Hello, just recently found your channel. All your videos are very informative and useful. Planning to go to Rome for the first time. Had a quick question. Are those train fares one way?
Yah train fairs are 1 way. On high speed rail you can save by purchasing well in advance or slower speed trains are cheep even at last minute, they just take londer
For best rates on high speed rail use the Italo app. If you book early you will save the most. About a month early for best savings in peak season. The other app I use is Trenitalia for all regular speed trains. They also have high speed but typically cost more than Italo. Trainline is a third party app, but I have never used it.
Haha! Love the fun sword fight!😂 Good video and informative. I have never ridden a train for travel. I don't have a date for travel yet. My plan is to visit Milan, Florence, and Rome. The slower train I think I would enjoy more. Never having done this, and traveling solo, it makes me a little nervous. I feel I will be fine though. Any suggestions about this itinerary? Thanks.
Outside of theft crime is very low in Italy so it is safe even late at night to be out alone in my opinion. Rome is a big city and lots to do and see but it can be a bit overwhelming. Florence is a much more relaxed city and very easy to enjoy. No need for taxis or busses everything is close by foot. What is your reason for going to Milan? I have been there a few time it was not my favorite and it is also a big city. I think one big city (Rome) is enough on your first trip. Just my thoughts. Thanks for mentioning the sward fight I was wondering if anyone would. It is not helpful advise , just silly entertainment. Any questions?
@@RozierRoma this would be a 3rd visit for me. I have not seen Milan. Being the fashion capital, I'd like to visit a couple of days. And it is so different from the other cities. Also i want to do a day trip to Lake Como. I am comfortable with Rome and Florence. Love both cities.
Personally, I would just use the official apps of both of the trains Italo and Trenitalia. Plus by using them that often times will email you discount codes that you can use in addition. Third-party apps typically cost you more.
There are 2 trains options in Italy so there are 2 apps. Italo is only high speed trains to all of the main cities in Italy. The app is easy to use. Trenitalia has a much larger network of trains both high speed and regular. I use Trenitali for all of the routs that Italo does not cover. You could just download Trenitalia and have 100 percent coverage but I find Italy app to be better and in most cases less expensive. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the video. I love your guidance on visiting Rome and in fact we picked our hotel location based on your experience and advice. We are planning a day trip to Pompeii on our visit in May. You mentioned there is a high speed train direct to Pompeii from Rome. We were only able to find one going to Naples then have to transfer to a slower train. Could you share exactly which train line we should book for direct high speed access to Pompeii?
I've just bought my train tickets from Roma Termini to Venezia for July this year. I've found it pretty easy to buy through the Italo app and I still got 30% off promo! But how to get through the entrance gates with e-tickets? People say it's quite usual the turnstile does not work properly with e-tickets and there's no staff around to help you out. I hope it works fine for me 😂.
Hi Scott, thank you so much for these videos! I really appreciate you sharing your experiences and tips! I am going on a trip to Italy in October. We come back to the US on the 24th of October. On the 23rd we will be in Naples but our flight leaves from Milan at 5am on the 24th. I was looking at tickets for the 23rd at around 10pm and I don’t see anything available yet, definitely because it’s too early. Do you have any tips on when I should book those tickets to get the best deal and/or if I should do Naples to Rome and then Rome to Milan? Thank you again!
You are right, they have train schedules out about 4 months. Not sure what you are looking for? A train that leaves Naples around 10pm or arrives in Milan around 10pm? I do not think you will find one leaving at 10pm so to arrive close to 10pm you will need to leave Naples between 5to6pm. With high speed rail leaving from Naples to Milan is very doable and takes just under 5 hours. If it were me I might look into starting trip in Naples and ending in Milan but both options work well. Why are you flying out of Milan? If I were to make a change I would fly out of Naples or Rome. Clarify and I will try to give my best advise.
Great info and video. Very informative. Unfortunately, I did not see any low price for the trains to Florence even 2 months before our trip. 😢 On Italo app, the cheapest price in July was 30 euros each way, per person and on the most economic option. So over 100 euros to go on a day trip. Maybe the prices have change recently? Anyhow, thank you for such an informative video.
Regular fair is 50 euros next day. On the app I see fairs 2 months out as low as 14 euros each way. Some days of week are more expensive to travel on so check different days. Also when you register on the app you get emailed promo codes that can be applied to bring the cost down further. Best of luck!
If you’re familiar with the station you just need maybe 10 minutes but if you’re unfamiliar allow yourself some extra time. 30 minutes would be enough to figure things out one thing you don’t wanna do is miss the train so it’s better to be a little bit early than late.
Do you recommend buying eurorail if you coming from America? Will eurorail works in any train in Italy? And how far in advance can you reserve the ticket? And what if you miss the train? Can you just use the ticket on the next train?
Eurorail offer a good option for travelers who want flexibility and want to cover long distances. I am not sure of all options but usually you get so many travel days and on travel days you can travel as far as you want plans for just Italy and other plans for extended beyond Italy. If you want to take a high speed rail there is a small upgrade fee but no need to pre-book in advance. if you miss a train you can catch the next one withj no added fees. Without the pass to get savings on high speed rail you will need to book well in advance and and if you miss the train you will get little of no refund and if you will have to purchase new ticket at full fare for a new train. booking in advance is usually the least expensive option if you are organized and have all you places and dates planned in advance. If you want flexibility to adjust your itinerary as you go, then the pass may make the most sense.
For high speed trains use the Italo app. Another good option is Trainline. It is very easy to use and also has bus options. I think the advanced purchase discounts will be greater for high speed train on the Italo app. For all other trains use Trainline. It really works great.
Do you recommend buying any tickets in advance if we are coming in to the cruise port? Last time we came to Rome I think we just purchased the train ticket at the station but just checking on your advice. Thanks for the great videos.
On the local trains, you do not save anything by purchasing them in advance on high-speed Grill. You can just purchase the tickets at the station or if you prefer from the app Trenitalia.
Thanks for the informative sharing. While I’m seeking suggestions from Italian locals: Can I aboard a Italo high speed train from the station that is next to the original station on the ticket? I booked the ticket from Venezia S.Lucia to Roma, but it will be easier for us to onboard the train on Venezia Mestre. Can you give me some advices?Thank you!
We are debating between taking the italo train from Rome to Pisa through central Italy versus taking the Trenitalia Frecciabianco along the coast. I hear the italo train has better quality prima (plus I have a $50 coupon), but I'm really intrigued about the scenic view of the Mediterranean Sea along the coast that the lower quality FB train will give us. I understand that we have to take a transfer if we go with Italo. What are your thoughts on this?
Italo does not service Pisa so you are likely taking Italo to Florence and then Trenitalia to Pisa. From Rome you still may have to transfer from Rome but I would take the Trenitalia and go for the scenery over speed as neither option will get you there quickly. Maybe if heading back to Rome try both options. Have fun!
Hi! Thanks for your videos. I bought the Italia tour 5 days pass from Trenitalia and without knowing not include speed train but it does include regional fast, do you know what’s the difference and how I can identify these regional fast trains? Thanks!
You can still take high-speed trains with your pass, but I think you have to pay an upgrade fee of about five euros. If you’re traveling across the country, you will definitely want to get on the high-speed as it will save you a lot of time.
I need your help im visiting Rome in June on a tour. On my free day I want to go to Venice by train but comeback late that same day. Im so confused for both the apps for the train services. Since it doesn’t say am or pm. Im trying to make sure I don’t book the wrong time. Also do the trains run 24 hrs? Can I just book my return ticket at the time im ready to go back? I would highly appreciate your help
Trains do not run 24 hours a day, last train to Rome from Venice is around 6pm. Some tines of year there is a sleeper train that leaves Venice at midnight and arrives in Rome at near 8am the next morning.. In italy they use a 24 hour clock 1 pm would be 13:00 2pm 14:00 and so forth. High speed rail takes 4 hours each way. You will only have 5 to 6 hours in Venice. Have you been to Florence? Much bettter option for a day trip. Venice is nice but it can be super, super crowded kinda like an amusement park than an italian city.
Thank you that is very helpful. Im really set on venice even if it’s just for a gondola ride. Seeing Venice is a dream of mine. The chances of me coming back, and having an opportunity to see venice is not likely.
Hi, thanks for this helpful video. I have a question on cancellation and refund of tickets booked on the Trenitalia site. If we are unable to travel, how can we cancel the ticket. I can't find an option on their site even after i am logged in. Also, is there any percentage that gets refunded even for a non-refundable ticket that is cancelled up to 2 weeks in advance? Or even an option to change the date for travelling or getting vouchers for that amount? Look forward to a response on this please. Thanks!
On the app when you purchase a ticket you will get different price option and click on the info sign to understand ticket restrictions/refunds, Only base tickets oor higher offer a refund with deduction option. How much of a deduction I do not know? Others let you reschedule and some of the cheeper tickets are use as is or lose. Once you have a train ticket purchased you can click on it to manage options such as cancel reschedule. I hope that helps
Many thanks for your helpful inputs on this. Will check the terms listed on my ticket and see if a cancellation is possible or a reschedule option. Thanks and all the best with the channel.
We spend 3 months in Rome, back in states for 3 months then back for 3 months. so 6 months a year in Rome. Currently we are in the states. We will be back in Rome in June.
I also just found your channel, and I didn't know about the Italo app and booking in advance to get cheaper tickets! Thank you! I have been to Italy 6 times and I am planning to take a family of 4 with me to Italy next summer. I was planning on going to Sorrento and Capri from Rome. I was considering using the Italo high speed trains to make it to Naples within an hour or so. Then use the Naples metro to the Port of Naples and take a ferry to Sorrento and Capri. Do you think it's worth a shot?
Yes, I have done that exact same thing not too long ago. Taking the ferry over to Sorrento from Naples was awesome and a much more enjoyable than the slow the slow Vesuviana train. Remember when you get to Sorrento, you’re down on the ocean and the city is up above. It’s much easier to take the elevator that is not too far from where the boats drop you off just ask. I think it cost one euro anyways well worth it. Have a great trip.
90% of the time true. When you first arrive in Rome with luggage I think it is smart to get a taxi. Also if it is your first time to Rome puplic transpostation can be a bit intimidating
@@RozierRoma When you fly to Rome, take the Fast Train to the City.In just 30 min. you are in Downtown. Generel in European you dont need a Taxi. Public transportation are great. Fast and Cheap.
So I’m going to get on the public transportation, bus or metro with all my bags and then exit and have to walk from there to my hotel with all my bags after being on the plane for 20+ hours? There’s a better way it’s called a taxi. Buses and metro do not take me to the front door of my hotel or Airbnb I’ve been in Rome with the metro and buses are also on strike or construction so taxis also come in handy then. I get what you’re saying Rome does have an incredible public transportation system but it does not work 100% of the time for every situation.
@@RozierRoma I take always the Train to the City. its easy and cheap. From Hotels mostly close to the Metro Station. Then you take a short walk. The best way to explorer the city is Walking. and use Public transporation.
Great job to start but honestly you can do better; strive for quality content. Get out there and take more video!rather than verbally explaining how to use validation machines. Show us! It’s youtube! show distinction between validating PAPER ticket vs a “ticket” purchased via the app. Big difference and u blur them. Take us inside Termini and show the huge board and how to read for arrivals, departures , tracks, cancellations and delays. Show us the ticket machines and counters for paper tik purchase. What about strikes? Show us how to navigate those. Walk us down to the B platforms rather than Google view. And most importantly:show us how to find your correct carriage/car number and how to position yourself on the platform. Also show us inside the commercial area of the station-how about an idea of how that appears…its a small busy city in there! What if you miss ur train? So, I think you have big opportunity here to provide real quality on 2nd edition-give it a shot!
As a initial starter video, very good. All the added info, i was unaware of. Almost like a book to movie conversion. So, I enjoued your theatrical version, but am intrigued by the possibility of an extended cut. I just found your channel, and have found your content helpful, so thank you!
@@RozierRoma Good evening! Thank you for the amazing video. I will be catching the Italo train at Roma Termini to Florence. I bought the ticket online; do I need to validate it? Also, do you know where the Italo trains are located in Roma Termini? Is there a map to make life easier? I will be arriving on bus 40 outside the terminal. Roma Termini makes me crazy! I would appreciate any tips. Thank you! 😊
@@FubVPQTP good news all high speed trains the tickets do not need to be validated and better new all come to the front of the terminal and so track 1 thru 20 something. Italo trains are easy to spot as they say Italo on the and there are faw fewer Italo tains than others. They post the departure track about 10 to 15 minutes before departure. Just know that when looking for your train an the screens do not search for Florence but use the train number because the display only posts the final destination city and not the stops along the may. It may say Milan or Venice but it will stop in Florence. Pretty straight forward just do not be late, trains depart on time for the most part.
You’re pretty demanding for a free helpful video. If you spend enough time in Rome, you’ll get used to the techno music. In fact you might start liking it.

Have a great trip
Heads up. Trenitalia’s app is only available if you change your Apple ID to Italy. Otherwise just use the browser version.
Interesting. I don’t think I had to when I downloaded the app? I’ll have to check on that.
Thanks and all the best with the channel.
thank you!!! the last part of the vid😂 👏
Are you guys still in Rome?
@@RozierRoma thank you!
In Rome you dont need a Taxi. The City has great Public transportation system. Is cheaper and you travel very fast.
@@RozierRoma When i visit Rome i make thats always so. I had never a problem.
@@RozierRoma I take always the Train to the City. its easy and cheap. From Hotels mostly close to the Metro Station. Then you take a short walk. The best way to explorer the city is Walking. and use Public transporation.
Be careful. There are a lot of pic pockets in the station. My granddaughter's cell was stolen there.
Unfortunately, it happens quite a bit in termini station
I appreciate your comment. I did get a bit lazy. Now I have a good reason to make an updated video soon.
It’s like you read my mind… that’s the beauty of a video- ie- showing us what to do versus just talking….
but you know how to rudely walk up to strangers shoving a camera in their face 🤡
As a initial starter video, very good. All the added info, i was unaware of. Almost like a book to movie conversion. So, I enjoued your theatrical version, but am intrigued by the possibility of an extended cut.
I just found your channel, and have found your content helpful, so thank you!

I love Italian trains!
@@RozierRoma yeah, the double deckers are amazing
Unwatchable! Please re-upload without the gay techno dance music.
You’re pretty demanding for a free helpful video. If you spend enough time in Rome, you’ll get used to the techno music. In fact you might start liking it.
