    Is a flexi eurail pass not cheaper for rail travel than buying individual tickets?

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  Місяць тому +1

      In my experience, the pass allows for a lot more flexibility, but it is not less expensive if you purchase the individual tickets in advance. With the pass, you don’t need to book in advance. You can just fly by the seat of your pants and are allowed so many travel days during your stay, if you’re going really long distances, the past can be a good deal but overall I find the tickets individually are less expensive if purchased in advance. Also worth noting if you purchase tickets in advance at a discount, they are usually not refundable or changeable. Most are use it or lose it.

    Great video. I'm saving this one, very useful tips. Going next summer (missus is a teacher so her school year ends on June 26th). We'll be staying at an Airbnb about 10-15 min walk from St. Peter's Basilica near Roma San Pietro Station. I saw that from FCO, we have two trains and a 10 minute walk to take to get to our Airbnb, so I think we'll be fine, we did the RER B and métro line 10 when we we from CDG to our Airbnb in the 15th arrondissement last summer when we went to Paris. We'll try to pack lightly, even for a 2 week trip. I already have the Italo app on my phone, so I'll be using that to book our train from Termini to Salerno when we go on our second leg of the trip to the Amalfi coast. The passports will stay at the apartment, would be nice to not have to go to the Canadian embassy, lol! Bonjour! Hi! from Montréal, QC!

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  4 місяці тому

      May I recommend getting taxi from FCO fora flat €50. After a long flight 2 more trains and a 10 minute walk. that will likely be closer to 20. If there are 2 of you the price will be very similar but the taxi will take you to your front door. Leonardo €14 per person, second train €1,5 per person. For €19 more you will save yourself from getting lost, time and stress. Just an idea for you to consider. I went to the US embassy without a passport. They let us in, not sure about Canada?

      @@RozierRoma we'll have our daughter with us, who will be 17 by the time we go on our trip. I haven't taken a taxi, even here in Montreal in over 25 years, haha. But I will take that under advisement, we're still in the planning stages. Actually, we're leaving for a 4 day road trip to Ottawa tomorrow, which is a 2.5 hour drive from here with a detour in St. Albert, ON for some cheese curds.
      For our previous trips, we left our passports at the hotel/Airbnb in a safe location.

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  4 місяці тому +1

      With three of you, it’s a no-brainer take a taxi. I know it’s a little bit intimidating but in Rome if you get on an official taxi which they have lined up right in front of the airport, it’s a flat €50. They have an optional charge they can charge you up to one euro per bag, some drivers charge it, some don’t. Before getting in just confirmed the fair if they state otherwise you’re likely not in a official taxi. Official taxes are white and they say tax on top the black sedans charge what they want, but you can also negotiate with them, but it’s better just to take a taxi. Get the app free now. On the app it gives you the option for a flat fee. You do not need free now from the airport, but if you ever need to get a taxi in Rome it will come in very handy, especially if you want a taxi to come to you

    Need advice. So what does this Jubilee entail? Is it wise to visit Rome then? We are trying to plan a trip for 2025 and spend about 2-3 days in Rome and Florence. Should we avoid Rome all together because of this Jubilee? Are the crowds even worse? I’m assuming yes? We are planning to be there in late September.

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  Місяць тому

      I would make it a point to go in 2025 and here is why. It only happens every 25 year and the city of Rome has been working hard all year long to ge the city ready for the Jubilee. Everything will be much cleaning, scaffolding covering monuments and building will almost all be down and the city will look great. If may be more crowded more ofter but that goes with any year I just think during the Jubilee it will be crowded not just on weekends and peak season. Just get you reservations set early because the longer you wait the more expensive it will become. I agree in Rome it is not worth it to pay for all the amenities offered by larger hotels, no time to use them. Boutique hotels and Airbnb are the way to get. Haing an airbnb is nice if you get one with a kitchen. Cooking some meals at home can save you as well as create an authentic experience. Shopping at the supermarkets is an expreience in itself. Keep you eye out os you get closer you can find places for about €100 per night. Another great option is to stay in Tivoli just outside of Rome for much less, have a great city with lots to do and take the train in to Rome when you want. The train costs about €3 each way and takes about 45 minutes

    What's going on in Rome now with all the construction? Any tips for someone going to Rome in late November 2024? What will be covered in scaffolding??!?

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  4 місяці тому

      Rome is getting ready for a huge celebration that takes place every 25 years. It’s called the jubilee. Lots of projects are in a construction with hopes of getting most of it completed by the end of the year maybe in November things will be less under construction? It’s kind of a bummer when things are covered in scaffolding, but there’s so much to see. I’m sure it will still be a lot of fun.

    Best place for :

      So many places to eat from €10 to over €300, What is nice about eating dinner in Rome at a place with great atmosphere is thet you get the table for the evening. 3 hours to enjoy dinner is not uncommon. Gelato in Rome is more good than bad. Very few bad places they seem to have have gelato down. There are a couple that really stand out however. Frigidarium near Piazza Navona is special and also Come il Latte. Not is a great location but worth seeking out. Tiramisu is everywhere. The most popular is 2 sizes, also near Piazza Navona and it is good but I am still searching for great.

      @RozierRoma  2 місяці тому +2

      I do not think you know the train prices as well as you think? The price was from this year and as we speak I just hopped on Italo to check the one way price and I can find it for €14.90 each way on my first search. At times they have even steeper discounts (under €10) but you have to purchase in advance. Look on Italo for mid November travel & you will see the rates I speak of. This is for high speed trains.

    Dude ... I'm taking an 8 euro Bus from the airport this time !!! Not a 50 euro taxi ... you must be rich ... lol

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  4 місяці тому +22

      OK in the video I said only implying that 50 is not much but consider this. When I get to Rome I have just spent 15 to 20 hours in planes and I am with my wife so there are 2 of us. We are tired and we want to get to out apartment as quick as possible. If we take the bus that is 16 euros and once we get the the train station then we have to search for a bus or metro with all our luggage and then we have to walk from the metro or bus stop to our airbnb that can be still several hundred meters away on street thet are confusing. if we do not get lost we are looking at 2 to 3 hours to get there. If I get a taxi at the train station that will cost about 15 euros more but depending on time of day the taxi line could be lonking. So for us bus then bus is 19 euros so I save 31 euros but I loose 2 hours of my time plus with all my bags on public transportation I become a pickpockets target. If I get a taxi at the station 28 euros so we save 22 euros over a taxi from the airport & I loose about 1 hour. So as you see the saving are there of money and the other savings of time with the added bonus of security.
