I went by train from Florence to Turin and I put my carry-on bag inside of my checked bag, so I wouldn't have to store my luggage in 2 spots on the train. Not to mention having 2 pieces of luggage visible. Which made it less of a hassle to bring on the train. I had to think ahead by making sure I didn't buy too much stuff in Florence, so that I could put one bag inside the other. I saved that for Turn. Bought lots of chocolate there.

I never travel to Italy in the summer because I want to avoid the heat and crowds. I’m currently in Bari at the end of a three week trip in Puglia. I took the FrecciaRossa from Rome to Lecce. The train originated in Milan. It was a very good train experience although a bit expensive. I’m returning to Rome on an Italo train because the time was more convenient than the FrecciaRossa. Train travel is a bit complicated in Puglia because to get to some places you have to take a private regional train not the Trenitalia system. However, Trenitalia does have many trains that connect all the coastal cities and the costs are quite reasonable. I have taken at least 2 dozen train trips in the last 3 weeks and the trains have been on time and comfortable with very few exceptions. It’s a great way to travel.

Thank you for sharing this! You're right, in most cases traveling around Italy by train is quite comfortable - and personally, I love Italo trains! Hope you enjoyed your stay :)

Thank you for the great Travel Tips! We are planning a trip, 25 Aug - 7 Sep 2024. We need to spend the first few days visiting family in San Pietro in Bevagna, Province of Taranto, (Puglia). Then, we'll Start the tourist travel bit. A sister wants to see Venice, Pisa, Sorrento, Capri, and then we'll leave Rome for the states in 7 September. I know that this is the extreme ends of Italy. Do you have suggestions on how to work this out via Train travel? Thank you, Mike

Great information. thank you. Can you include videos on popular less known destinations often ignored, places to stay things to do etc. Italy is great and we took 3 trips from US covering Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice, Milan. lake Como, Cinque Terre, Amalfi coast, Sorrento, Capri Island etc. Want to do Portofino area and many more. Italy has the best to offer for European tourism and the list of places are never ending. Beautiful country and love it.

I'm travelling from Trieste to lake Garda and then onto Milan airport after a short stay. I will have 1 large suitcase and a small cabin bag, so will my partner. I'm going to travel by train and use the code. 👍

Nobody controls and checks baggage weights on Italian trains. Most of those rules are just on paper, especially in Italy.

Hello, if I bought the train tickets via Trenitalia app for 2 persons, can I just make 2 taps upon entry to the platform? I’ve seen videos where you need to tap the ticket QR code in Roma termini. Or do I need to send the other QR code to my husband’s phone?

Hi, I think you should make the online check-in for both if you got the tickets online (also, it's only valid for regional trains, high speed ones don't require you to do so). The check-in link should arrive to your email the day before the departure or probably directly in the app!

What about service dogs on the train. We have not yet traveled with my Service Dog (Labrador) on the train yet.

I've heard service dogs travel for free all over Europe, but it's better to double check it with the train company!
