i lived in Arcata for 9 months in 1981. It was colder than I expected but I probably did not have the right clothing. Went to Humbolt State for a semester. Loved the close proximity to nature. Forest in one direction, sand dunes and ocean in another direction and cow pastures in another direction. Loved that!

Thank you. I haven't been there in almost twenty years. I almost don't recognize anything but Wildberries. (Wild Larrys)
I miss Arcata. My dad was an artist, and lived in the area and was deeply loved by the people there. I wish I could visit again one more time.

The scenery is beautiful. The beaches were amazing, especially near the Trinidad area. Did not really care much for the town. It seemed kind of "gritty" and not at all what I was expecting for a Pacific coastal town.

This place looks so natural and beautiful it kind of gives me the creeps but in a good way. Life here must be pretty laid back and calm.

I was born there in the old Trinity hospital thats now a part of HSU or whatever HSU is called now days. Grew up there. When I was a kid lotsa lumber mills, barrel factory, feed stores downtown. Different place now. Like reeeaaaalllly different. But I guess thats how it is with most places. Time always marches on.

@@TheRezone07 meth and white crime , white crime like biker gangs and some movie shit where you get found dead in the woods messing with the wrong people . Lots of weed related rivalry. Over all if you stay away, it's not like aggressive California street crime. The homeless would be the closest of street crime, meth rage.

With all the States that have legalized recreational use it’s “insane good” in a lot of places. The whole West Coast really. Humboldt doesn’t really have the monopoly it used to.

I was a student at Humboldt State for 2 years and was a census taker in 1980 in Garberville, Fort Bragg, and in the mountains between Arcata and Eureka. Interesting job. I would say that the scenery hasn't changed much but I hear there are social problems. I moved from Arcata to Springfield, Missouri in 1983 and it was quite a change. I am in St. Louis now and I have no desire to even visit California. At least the seasons change here, even though we do have to put up with a cold winter. I grew to hate the fog and rain.

Lived in Humboldt most of my life. Would take that any day over Sacramento. I have a friend that lived in Eureka and I think lives in Springfield. Her first name is Mary Ann. Her husband worked at McCrea Datsun in the 70's, excuse the spelling

I recently spent 4 days in Arcata, Eureka and a few other places on the north coast, and while the natural beauty is breath taking, the rest of area isn't... at all. For an area that is home to about 135K people, it was shocking to see the high degree of big city type probelms that exists there. I saw many boarded up bussinesses and homes, properties that were just not taken care of, homelessness similar to that of SF and LA, not to mention opiate addicts literally everywhere you turn your head. Nice place to visit but I'd never want to live there, and, if you're drive on the 101 thru the downtown areas, be sure your cars are locked when you are a red light. I did not feel safe in this area of the state.
