Today we're on the range with my @kiblerjim Southern Mountain Rifle shooting my backyard woods walk.
My Kibler Rifle is stocked in Cherry and has a 46" .40 caliber Rice Barrel. I'm shooting a .395 roundball and 55 grains of Schuetzen 3F blackpowder with a pre cut patch lubed with @BuckskinsBlackPowder Bear Grease Lube.

This video was filmed early on a Saturday morning as the leaves began to turn this fall. I wanted to spend some time on the range doing some relaxing shooting and I hope that 'vibe' comes across in the video. Nothing flashy or special about this one really, just a nice morning out with my flintlock.

Nothing beats the sound of a black powder rifle on a autumn day and the smell of black powder in the air. Love the videos keep them coming
Thank you John
Dear ethan, love your videos. With all the negativities in the world these are a breath of fresh air. Love black powder.
Thank you Donald!
You do a great job with your videos and we are thrilled that you are enjoying your rifle so much.
That’s a really nice lock; fires quick and reliable. Fine shooting. I’ve got two .54s (caplock and a flinter) and a .32 flinter. I need a .45 flinter just to fill out the collection. Thanks for the relaxing video.
Ethan,You're inspiring me to get my woods walk set up again. During hunting season I found two targets that the hangers gave out.
Cool video, I have the exact same rifle that I built last year in .40 caliber. The problem I have where I live is it is almost impossible to buy black powder. So I learned to make my own which brings tremendous satisfaction. Shooting a rifle you put together and powder that you made. By the way, it looks like your shooting has improved nicely.
That's great Francis! Congrats!
You can’t beat ringing steel with a flintlock.👏🏻
Nice shooting! Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I found a 58 cal muzzleloader yesterday its going to be fun to play with
Excellent!!!
Hi Ethan! Practice makes perfect. Keep plugging away at 'em!
Thanks Martin!
Awesome shooting, what a beautiful job you did on that kibker Ethan. "Pobody's nerfect"😂 I laughed way too hard!
I'm glad it brought a smile to you!
Awesome video Ethan. Liked and subscribed
Wish I had property enough to make my own woodswalk. Our local gun range will not set one up due to insurance issues. Our insurer insist on a 15 foot berm.
That kibler is just beautiful. I'm jealous that looked like a very peaceful relaxing shoot.
Someday we'll have to get together and shoot some!
@@ILoveMuzzleloading i would absolutely love to.
My kinda fun!
Love to see steel targets swing!
Me too! Thanks for watching!
Man that's a Fast Pan!! almost sounds like a capper!
Very Nice!
It sure is!
Ethan Good Luck in the woods 🦌 mr. 👍👍🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸The Vermonter
Thanks! The same to you!
Nice shooting Ethan. Money well spent on that Kibler.
Thanks Jack. I'm certainly enjoying it!
Like your Fish Creek hat. I sure had a great time at that club last month. You are doing good Ethan. You could run rings around me. Good video.
Thanks Steven! Even if I can't make it, I like to wear the hat! It's a good hat. We'll have to get together next year for some shootin.
You shot well! Woods walks are fun to shoot. Our club has done several this year. Some times I shoot better than my norm, but I always have fun. We enjoy your videos... thanks.
Thank you kindly Mark. It's always good to have fun! That's my main goal.
Nicely done! Some of those were pretty small. LOL...as I age the eyes just don't pick up targets like they used to. I have to swap glasses to see then shoot!
I have shot mine about 300 ish times now... still haven't finished building it though, hahaha.
That's how it goes sometimes!
Shooting a muzzle loader that has an underhammer Ignition system.
Great video. That 100 yard shot is still inside minute of Redcoat!
Haha, thank you!
Awesome! Can’t wait to shoot my .45 kibler smr now!
You'll enjoy it!
Looks really fun. I've a SMR in .40 ordered. 2 to 3 weeks! 😃
Hope you enjoy it! I know I love mine
Fun!
That’s pretty good. Hitting that far off hand is not easy. Especially with a flintlock.
Thank you kindly
Heck yeah man! Great shootin', nothin beats a good woods walk. You're welcome to come shoot mine any day.
Someday I'll make it out east!
@@ILoveMuzzleloading I know most mountain men look to the west but hey, we have some neat stuff too!
Lol those lee improved minies will make a mark on your AR500 with 75-80 of ffg swiss. Dished one of my 44 mag spinners with my Flintlock Kentucky rifle from Pedersoli.
Oh nice!!
Looks like a fun setup!
Keeps me out of trouble, that's for sure!
Great shooting!
Thanks Jesse, it was fun.
Great video, love watching your show. Would love too see a comparison video with bh209 using different primers. Chrono and accuracy. El chepo to top brand primers. Would be interesting too see.
Thanks Rick! I’ll keep my eyes peeled and try to find enough primers to do it
Love it.
Thank you Daniel.
Good shooting Ethan.
Thanks Allen!
Looks fun!
Definitely was!
so I am building a Kibler .40 SMR. I am wondering what your ball-patch-lube setup is.
Pretty nice rifles I was going to order me a kit but I can't see paying extra $300 dollars on top of price of rifle to get a lock with it
It's well worth it in my opinion.
Wish I could walk out my door and shoot! Can't even safely use a .177 airgun in my yard.
I'm very blessed. I hope you can go shooting some more!
Quick question for you 40 or 45 for an all the way around gun??? Thinking squirrels to deer. Your advice and opinion??? I'm looking at the Kibler smr. Thanks for your response ...!!! Peace.
👍
That's a fun video, thanks! I'd love to do a woods walk some day. I see your ramrod is longer than the barrel, why is that? Thanks.
Thanks Matt. I've left it long to give me a better grip on it. This rod is kinked a bit and I haven't taken the time to adjust it. The extra handle makes it easier to pull out, but does make loading tricky. This winter I'll get in the shop and make the rod fit better and might shorten it a few inches.
I have photos of original mountain rifles with their owners with the rod extending and I've always liked the look, so fixing the rod hasn't been a priority, haha.
Nice video and rifle. I have a comment/question: when I was introduced to shooting muzzleloading rifles, I was taught to push the ramrod in one smooth motion, compressing the ball slightly at the finish. Almost every video I see now shows the shooter tamping down the ramrod several times. Have things changed or was I taught wrong?
Thanks James! You weren't taught wrong at all, I don't think there is a wrong way to do it. The single smooth motion is common practice in muzzleloading competition or hunting. I'd do the same if I was shooting in a competition. This kind of relaxed shooting I'm not too concerned about it and I find it tougher to do the smooth motion with this wooden rod. I probably need more practice.
Great question!
What dose your SMR 40 cal? Barrels are not swamp correct on a 40? 45 are still a Swamped right?
All of Kiblers SMR barrels are swamped to my knowledge
Awesome video. Love the rifle. I do have a question though. Would you recommend the 40 caliber for deer? Virginia just legalized the 40 caliber for deer, so was just wondering your opinion on that.
Personally I don't have a problem with deer hunting with a .40. The tale always goes that more deer have been killed with a .22 than we can count so I don't see why it wouldn't work. As long as you are at a reasonable distance and have good shot placement, it should work.
Nice shooting. I love shooting steel paper is boring
Thanks Al!
Ethan do you keep your ram rod that long for a reason other than its eased to draw it from the pipes ,great vids by the way
Thanks Lou!

I thought so ,I keep my cleaning jag on all my flinters,I like the look ,and reload is easier,,KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ,INTERESTING AND LEARNERED ,RESPECTFULLY, LOU
I got a question , with 70 grains of powder in a 45 caliber flintlock southern Tennessee mountain rifle with a 42 inch barrel . How much of a drop would it be at 200 yards ?
Great question, I'll have to get to the range to see.
@@ILoveMuzzleloading I be very grateful if you would .
How many rounds do you figure it will take to fully break in the barrel? I have 2 new TVM rifles with Colerain barrels and was wondering about that.
I’ve heard a hundred is average from the folks I talk to.
Maybe laser ignited powder?
That sounds like the future to me. Good idea
That's a nice flat shooting little rifle you have. Nice shooting! As for what "the kids" are into... Its a degenerate cesspool out there. Homeschool if at all possible.
Already working towards it. Thanks for watching!
What lock do You have?
This is the Kibler lock
@@ILoveMuzzleloading I thought it looked like a L&R durs egg
What barrel is on your rifle?
Nevermind it's a .40 Rice. I have one too but in a 42 inch
I got mine just before the change so it's one of the older barrels.
👍
Thanks!
