    Dan you seem like a very kind person. I hope all is going well for you and your family. And thank you for teaching all of us something about nature.

    It's great when you can find crystals without having to dig to much for them

    This video was interesting to me Mr. Hurd. I worked for some years in the Silicon industry (ELKEM). We got quartz from Spain and we used the Söderberg electrodes ovens. Remember that I found Ametyst in the quartz piles.

      no amythest at this site, but iron pyrite, copper, and plenty of iron coated quartz (a possible precursor of amythest) at the bedrock site, just down the road from the site shown

    My dad cleaned the silt out of his pond, and I found one about the size of a softball. Really clear, river or creek tumbled so not crystal shaped

    I know I'm late to comment, but I found a slot canyon in northern mn, on a tributary to lake superior. In the canyon was a red bed rock which I'm assuming is around the basalt, gabbro, gniess family. And it was vestucular with mineralized quartz pockets just like that falling out into the creek thats cutting into the hill. I've been trying to figure it out for a while. Because I like looking for agates and opal and I've been trying to figure out the host/parent rock for agates so I can find them in situ

    Man all the quartz on my farm has nothing but iron in it as far as I know, I would love to see even copper in them!

      Come out to the end on to the dirt of Hollywood (on far eastside) in Las Vegas and I believe the ground is selenite, an evaporated state of gypsum.

    Well hello Dan! Love the way you say that at the opening of all your videos! Question, you mentioned indicators. Do you mean vugs? I found a small crystal "less than an inch tall, in the largest bedrock trap I located this year / not a boil hole. It was in very coarse deteriorating quarts.
    I'm sure your back is much better by now. That kind of pain is no fun next to what we enjoy doing.
    Thanks Dan!

    I think this may be the stuff I found. 🤔 Does it live in vains in rock creek beds in mountains? I like to hike up creeks and camp and found this stuff that's like glass in the rock. Pretty and clear. Some of it has layers of white lines in it, and it tended to break in flat layers when struck. Pieces up to a few inches long. Never taken anything out of the rock before, but I'd never seen something so similar to glass out in nature so I took some. Had to make stone tools to get it out of the bedrock though.

    • @eLiV8t
      @eLiV8t Рік тому

      Maybe Selenite. It has the layers was used as window panes in the past has a hardness of 2 and has a iridescence to it.

    After ten years of back pain crutches walker etc ect I heeded the advice of my father and that was lay down on the floor on your back raise one ankle above the knee then raise that knee and stretch the pirimus on both sides daily after one week your back should feel much better...knnes up raise the hips and stretch the middle...knees side to side twist stretch....I know it sound so simple and easy to dismiss but....it made me pain free...(may require flexeril to get things started but I only needed one dose)

    When you walk on the crushed quartz it sounds like a classifier full of clean wet ,plus stones. just sayin. There are some beautiful quartz crystals here in n.h. in the white mountains but its a lot of work to find them in the fluff, what they call rotten rock, decayed granite I believe.Smokey quartz 1.5" in diameter sometimes and a foot long , not an everyday find tho

    How do you tell the difference between a piece of glass and a piece of quartz which has not facets?

    • @Danhurd
      @Danhurd  5 років тому +1

      You often can't. Glass can sometimes have a green tinge to it

    If it’s the place I think it is you are above a place called Pritchard, somewhere. If it is there was a good deal of soapstone, not great quality but a lot of it. Ahhh you came the other way. You didn’t find the face where they were getting the quartz from?
