- Opal Hunting is amazingly fun. We found some jewelry quality opals at my private opal claim. We also discovered a new dig site on this claim that shows agates and geodes. What a fantastic day prospecting for gemstones.

sir, you are the youtuber ive been searching for for the past five years or so, ever since i got into geology! greetings from the flint and chert coast of sweden!
Sometimes when you see a group of people, you know for a certainty they’re all related. That’s you guys! Awesome day out with the family, priceless.
For sure!!
We had a family in our 4-H club and all of us used to joke with them that they really stamped their children. They had seven kids and although some were blonde and some were brunette their faces were almost identical it used to just crack this up cuz we could see in the distance yep that kid belongs to such and such family without even knowing them.
@@Lisa.Sparkman I myself am an identical twin and my other 3 brothers are only within a couple years and also look identical. Just funny
Who dislikes a Dan Hurd video? Claim jumpers only explanation
HIS A GOOD GUY I LIKE HIM I TRUELY THINK HE AS A PERSONAL LUCK MINE HIDDEN IN HIS MAJIC CUPBOARD
It was lovely to see you as a family looking for treasure together. I’ve learnt so much about layers of rock from you. Your knowledge is fantastic & it’s so good of you to share that knowledge with us.
Thanks Dan, well if you don’t look you never know what’s under the surface!! Enjoyed this video thank you very much. Graham 🇬🇧🇬🇧
It’s amazing how acid cleans the rocks and creates the original beauty. Have found some amazing finds that would have been just “interesting” before.
As a child, a young boy growing up and learning, I had a fascination as a rock hound. I collected rocks, stones, geodes and list track of it all as I grew up and into other fascinations.
If I could have seen this channel and knew that this is a grown ups fascination that could be a living, rather than just an interest, I'd be doing exactly what you are doing and enjoying the heck out if it. Fortunately, in my aging years, I've got you tube and Dan Hurd and his family so I can be an armchair rock hound and still enjoy every minute of it as if I'm there. sigh.... 😊
His boys have the most gorgeous red hair ..I am always in awe how many different kind of gemstones are found in BC absolutely beautiful ..
Honestly Dan, besides how knowledgeable you are and how interested I am in and about geology, your production is great. Very entertaining
Dan, I dont understand how you always get people thumbs downing your videos! I think you and your family are so cool! I wish you and your family all the best! Ed from the UK ❤🇬🇧
Good times!! Enjoy watching your videos with my morning coffee. Rock on! Dan and Fam!
Good morning!
Agate, especially chalcedony, are in my top 20, probably top 10 gemstones. I have a lot of favorites. Been collecting gems since I was 5 years old. And it's funny a guy like me does that because I've also been shooting and fighting since I was 5 haha. Just goes to show gemstones are for everyone.
I love learning about different crystals and stuff. I live in Australia and we have amazing opal here and I just learnt from you video that there are different types of opal. I love your videos, thank you for sharing your knowledge
I must say Dan, one of the things that makes your non-music channel so good is your choice of music for your videos.
It's lively, rockin' and great musicians.
Cheers and thanks for all your stuff, from Australia!
Hiya Dan, I never understood why people think that, opals only comes with color play, 🤔well just like you said...common opals are green and white, but they can also be in every color of the rainbow 🌈😉, common opals don't have color play, you can also have agatized opals or opalized Petrified wood. The opals your finding are simply beautiful.
I hope you and your family, have a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😸🐟out!
Sweet Claim Dan! Way NICE!!! Great to see your Family there with you. Makes for a Greater Adventure bringing the family along. Love to see the excitement in their eyes too.
Ohhhhh I love the ones with green. I love to watch your family go rocking together. GOD Bless
☺️ Alex’s little “thank you” was so sweet. Both seem like good kids.
They are!
Your sons are growing up so fast, you have a lovely family.
The agate has 0 water content and all opals have a water content that is lost over time. That is where the distinctive cracks that identify opals come from. Polishing them seal in the water as good as possible. Nice find and thanks for showing the mining procedure.
Thank you for the grade A, numba 1 entertainment! Wholesome...
I like it when the kids have a preference when it comes to prospecting. One of mine goes crazy over crystals, not too much for gold.
such beauty what mother nature gives us humans to have thank you for sharing
Absolutely!
cabachons turned out beautiful.
Gday Dan 👋👋👋👋i love it when you and your family are out on an adventure. Those Opal/Agate are stunning made into jewellery, awesomeness and thank you for sharing, god bless and stay safe and well 🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌼🌼🌼🌼
Hey Dan look at that beard you’re looking really well mate. I was gonna check out your patreon stuff and I’ve never done before for any of the people I subscribe to. Since you’re picture stone claim has looked after you I felt a bit better that I was so poor and couldn’t help any of my guys out. My other favourite page is called Black Opal Direct run by Justin here in Queensland Australia where I live. I have absolutely got opal fever now and have become really interested in Lapidary to Been waiting months and months for this pandemic to be over with so we can finally get down to lightning ridge down in New South Wales which is about 8 hours away. I really want to thank you though for educating me in so many different things and really wish I could thank you a bit better than just a thanks. Love the Lapidary stuff as your honesty about being a learner in this front not the expertise that you have on geology and gold and all other things shiny that our beautiful Earth has for us.I’d love to know what your background is with geology and why you are so knowledgeable about our Earth.
😂 😂 😂
Dan
You should ask the guys with the big machines if you can borrow a big machine while they make their lunch break 😁,
Just to clean some areas out!
With the big machines it would be a piece of cake 👍🏻
One thing is for sure Dan you will never lose your wife and kids that's for sure their beautiful red hair will always be your beacon. :) Your channel is always a education and very interesting. I never even thought BC would have opals now I know. LOL :)
Keep passing it down!! Taking my 14y old niece panning, and gemstones hunting! Really good quality time with some cool rewards !
Awesome work Dan and everyone those look great
Love these unique videos from Dan. Not the same ole thing like so many tubers. Thank you all.
293rd 👍 ITS not my thang. But ,I gotta say Dan, I'm alot more interested in other rocks now when I go to the river now days. Agate hunting has become my wife's thing because of me watching you and then telling her about it. The other day we found a dark dark purple rock that had a yellow "lightning" looking band/ hair line stringer wrapping around it. Have no clue what it is but it's gorgeous.
Love the family trips. Hope to get over to the Houser Geode Beds with the hubby and kiddo soon. We all love rocks in this house too! Keep up the great work.
Love this Dan ... Love the variety of cool things you share... gold, gems and more!! Thanks again for another great video... Love seeing the family out with you, very heart warming...Keep up the good work brother
My pleasure!
Feeling stronger every day! Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks Dan 👍
The opals there look so much different to the opals here in Australia 🇦🇺
yeah, looks a bit like potch
It's common opal, unlike the precious opal that you have in your country. It doesn't have any fire in it at all, so the material from Australia is so much better than what he's mining.
I love Mom, spraying the boyz down with bug spray.. them dayum things will eat ya alive !
Sun screen, we all red heads!
@@Danhurd Yup Gingers are like that, have a lot of clan that are the same way. Stay safe and have fun,, just an old MSHA guy
@Dan Hurd, is the Opal you find the same as potch?
Try some Hemp Eaze Therapy cream instead of sunscreen, you can burn all day, put some on once in the evening, and literally wake up tan.
@@macromicrodragon Please delete this comment, sun screen is important because it protects against the harmful rays, what you suggest is dumb and dangerous
Shane yesterday
Dan today
Great weekend for prospecting videos
Another one of mine tomorrow!
Sweet
Incredibly beautiful results!
The cutting and polishing is such a process though. Super hard material.
Black Opal Direct here on Yt has a ton of great opal cutting/polishing videos if you’re interested!
Thanks Dan, great video!
You are welcome
Beautiful! Very nice work, Dan and family!
They are gorgeous.
HI from Ukraine ! 💎
Dan, you are amazing! Gold is just one of your many targets.
Definitely looked like a great day with the family and some really beautiful finds! 🤘😁🤘⛏⛰🇨🇦
It looked a very fun time for the whole family, at least the first part. Nice finds. Congrats. GL&HH.
Wish you were in my family Dan lol ❤ you would be my favorite uncle.
Another amazing video sir. Big thank you for the info and videos
I love this video! A friend of yours and mine named Sam sent me peridot that she said you mined. I am so excited to have it and I can't wait to see what else you pull out. These opals are gorgeous!
Dan all your videos are awesome thanks for making them
I've never heard of Common Opal before. They're just beautiful! Sort of reminds me of your Ocean Picture stone but in a different set of colors. Love the pendants you made from them.
Beautiful pieces !

Coool stuff. I've found agate in Nova Scotia on one of the beaches I comb for Obsidian.
Wonderful trip, thank you...
Our pleasure!
My favorite stones is pink Quartz ! A Amethyst , peridot
Just a comment on production: It sounds like the rock-music interludes are too loud, compared to the surrounding audio.
Omg I wish I could come hang out with you and your family a few days. Absolutely beautiful jewelry. I flame paint copper and make jewelry with the components I flame paint. I've been a rockhound my entire life. I have lots of Paint rock agate I collected 10 years ago that needs to be cut. Maybe I will send you a chunk to cut and make a few pieces of jewelry out of.
After u cut them they r so Beautiful Dan Thanks...😇
Wow just wow
I think so too!
@@Danhurd opal and agate are awesome but massed together by mother nature is the coolest
This is my kind of mining! Love getting out the hammer drill. Agate and opal tend to be found in the same area in my experience and area.
I'm really digging the music choices lately. 🤘
The Hurd Herd!
Wow those pendants looked brill 👌
Great video love those opals with the agate like that
Me too!
Awesome hunt!
Too bad the new spot didn't pan out as well when digging. But I'm sure you've since bern back and found much more.🍻🇨🇦
Just found u Dan! Great finds and awesome job on the final pieces! 👍🏼✨😍
Do these kids know how cool their dad is?👍👍👍

Beautiful family my friend! You are Truly Blessed! ☺️ Also I pay a lot of money to get my hair even close to that color of red hair!👩🦰 😄😂
Dan you are the man! You are such a great father and I love your show so much! Boys working hard with a snowball fight 😂🤪✨🤯🌎☮️👍🕺💎✨
WOW 🤤
#Gorgeous #Pendants!
Opal!!! You need to go deeper! Perfect, in a few years I'll need some good Canadian Opal Hunters haha Dan Hurds Kids? Your hired!
You are a busy man Dan..
Just a thought, but what about bringing a high output leaf blower with you to locations and using it to remove the dirt build up? If you customize one to have a water feed in it you could even have it spray water and was off clinging sediment as you blow off the dirt. Alternatively or in pair with this idea you could hook up a pressure washer in the back of your truck with a water tank/pump and a generator and wash potential surfaces or even cut some types of stone.
I just noticed you commenting on people's comments and think that is lovely!
I try to get to as many as I can.
