Something I do at my bins is people who go daily as resellers I befriended and told them my dream finds or style I look for. Then they will find me when I'm there and give me things they find that they know I will like!
My tip is not to go with something in mind that you’re look for because truly you never know what you’ll find. I wish there had been a video like this before I started going to the bins. I love the digging and yes still such good things to be found after the swarm. My bins has regulars who would have certainly yelled at those teenagers from your bins had they been there.
I agree, you have to go opened minded for sure! I really wish more people spoke up against the teenagers but instead people kind of followed suit. Meanwhile a few others like myself stood back behind the line like “what the heck is going on??”
Quilter here 🙋♀️ It's traditional to embroider your name/initials and the date on a quilt when you finish it. I think it's because handmade quilts are heritage pieces that usually get passed down and having the name and date on it keeps a record of who made it:) I agree with you, it's too pretty to cut up!
That’s so cool! I didn’t know that! Thank you for the insight 🥰♥️ and I agree I am keeping it as is. I will save the quilt jacket project for maybe a quilt that is falling apart if I come across one. Or maybe an unfinished quilt project someone donates 😂
I'm a costumer and I always have a list in my head of lace, trims, and fabrics I want to pick up when I go to the bins... every time I go there I find far more of what I like then my budget will pay for! I'm the gray haired old lady with wobbly legs who sorts through the bins all the way to the bottom and finds bits and bobs that other folk miss because they rush through their bin searches... Be polite and helpful and others may actually give you something from their shopping cart that matches a piece you picked up and exclaimed over, just so they can see you smile. Always stay far back from those people who dive into the bins when they first come out and you will find the treasures they miss.
Totally agree! Patience is key at the bins. I’ve gone through and found amazing things in bins that were picked over. This last trip I found stuff in very sparse bins. I guess it helps having very specific taste hehe. But that’s so cool that you find materials to use. I’m trying to do that too for diy’s. I find lots of faux greenery and florals.
Another quick tip for the measuring tape. I mark in ink on the tape my half-waist size (for skirts & pants) and my half-bust size. That way I just lay down the item and measure quickly and don't bother if they aren't big enough (I can always take them in if they're too large).
Depending on the ink and measuring tape material you may be able to clean it off with isopropyl alcohol if/when your measurements change, though it may also remove the tape's measurements, so test swab in an inconspicuous place first, ie on the cm side if you usually use inches, or near the end of the roll so at worst you're only shortening its total length!
The mesuring tape is also a good idea to see if furniture will fit in the car trunk. I keep one in my purse for thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales. Nothing worse than playing tetris with your purchases in the car -.-'
Yesssss bin digging! I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but one of my clients came across an amazing brown suede jacket when she went - the only thing she needed to do was replace the buttons with some funky ones she had laying around. I tend to have decent luck with finding backpacks and other kinds of bags - we've seen some really nice Swiss brand luggage at ours a few times. The keeping a tape measure thing is honestly genius and I don't know why we haven't done that ourselves. Skirt! Hike! DIY! Yesssss!
When went I did the same thing! I was looking for unique old timey looking sweaters and cardigans that I knew nobody would go for, so it was honestly the best experience for me and I was able to find everything I wanted
A morning star mace, that's the spiky ball in the book end. Many phots show them on a stick/mallet end but they also were made with a chain attached to the handle for a good swing. Looks cool, makes a real mess of your enemies.
As soon as I heard "we don't gatekeep here, we share with the class", I immediately hit Subscribe. THANK YOU! There are unfortunately many thrifty content creators that do that. For example: previous thrifters on instagram or tiktok snubbing me because I asked for the vintage labels and brands of their finds so I can find something similar for myself! So to hear encouragement and openness even just for Bins Tips is a breath of fresh air. This video was awesome and super duper informative! Can't wait to watch the rest of your channel ✨
I’ve found at my local bins if the resellers figure out I’m not a reseller they are usually polite and not nearly as pushy. haha. Another tip: bring water! I live in the southeastern us, and my local bins is in a warehouse that is not cooled during the warmer months. I made this mistake the first time and nearly got heat exhaustion. Not fun! I love how cheap the bins are, but the downside is the chaos and mess really overwhelms me and I only go every few months. Totally worth it though!
New sub here!! Hi! my favorite thing to do at the bins is to let the people go to the new bins & then wait till they go thru all of their findings & then i go thru their throwbacks!! I’ve found some of the best things that way!!
Watch for a green canvas with brown leather trim backpack just a little smaller than Daypack size. The front will say Campomaggi 1961. I found one at our Oregon bins, sold it on ebay for $169.00 in about 2 weeks it had 10 watchers. I got a real low ball offer the first day, but I waited. It had a small hole in the canvas on the out side and a 2 inch hole on the inside or it would have sold for at least $200.
I’ve been nearly run over by people with their carts and also have met some really nice people. I don’t have one near my home but love to go when I visit my daughter in N.C. It’s so much fun but you have to love to dig. My advice is if you see something you even think you might be interested in go ahead and put it in your cart. You can decide later if you want it or not. Also pick up a rug, bedspread, or whatever you can find to lay over your cart to hide your finds when you park your cart along the wall. It’s an unspoken rule to not get into other people’s carts.
Hey bin thrifting sister! New subscriber and life long treasure hunter. Everything you said is true. I am also a " let the animals go first" gal. They never want the wierd stuff I'm looking for. My best finds: Giger model of his painting, 8 vintage boys OP button downs, 70s mushroom stool and a vintage side table. The bins where its at!
One thing I already learned about the bins is that they'll price out just about any item over 18-24" and not make you weigh that. I made this mistake by paying weight for a golf bag, when I found out after they would have given it to me for $2.99. I ended up paying over their retail store price for it at the bins. 8 pounds at $1.79/pound. Live and learn.
Oh my goodness I went to the bins only one time, and I literally left crying. Never having been to one before I did not know that there were so many rules. An older lady came up to me, obviously they been professional as I call them. And started telling me that there can only be two people at one bin. If I get books they must be stacked from the biggest to the lowest on top. All clothing must be folded and placed into sections such as shirts, tank tops, jeans, slacks, blazers, etc. all hard goods must be placed independent of each other. If I would find some dishes that would include the big dish the salad plate and cup and saucer that must be placed into one section and then if I find another site exactly like-the other one, that must be placed in a separate section.I was also told I have only X amount of time to be looking in each bin so someone else can dig in that bin, And then she started yelling at me telling me that I’m not allowed to have a cart unless I have been at that been several times. She started after me so bad at the security guard came up and wanted to know what the issue was. And I told him I had just walked in the door I have never been here before. And the security guard told the lady to layoff me but I have a right to be there. She continued to yell at me so I just left. I would love to go back to a bin , But I’m afraid I have PTSD from that whole situation. Oh and she also told me I am never to come by myself
That is so weird, did she work there? And was it a Goodwill location or another company? I’ve never been to a bins location with that many strict rules. The ones I’ve been to the basic rules are just that you have to stay behind the line while they wheel the new row out, then once they’re in place it’s a free for all, nothing folded, it’s just chaos. That sounds like the other end of the stress spectrum. I’m so sorry you experienced that. That lady needs to take a big chill pill 😭
Ooh I look forward to a skirt hikes tutorial. I made a ridiculous amount of leather corsets last summer cuz I have too much leather. I wouldn’t mind making skirt hikes too. I haven’t gone to ren fairs but I like the style. And to make stuff in that style. I have tapestry samples that will be corset belts too.
NEVER gloves at the bins 😂 You are absolutely right, it is a dirty place but when you wear gloves you can miss the feel of quality fabric. This might not be important for those shopping for certain “looks”. The rest I am 100% on board with.
Hey I bought a few of your pieces in whatnot and I absolutely love every single one of them! Thank you so much! Love your videos and your style ❤ much love!
yep its the new gen resellers. I see more young trendy lookin people at my usual thrift spots 😅 it’s not inherently bad, only when they become a nuisance to staff and other customers (crowding, snatching, & disregard of rules)
Yeah they were too much. The poor employees were frustrated. When I went back the next Saturday there was a male employee bringing things out and he didn’t hold back and would shout at people to wait. I was like 👏
We don't have bins here in Australia but I have to say even if we did and it was as crazy as it is there I wouldn't be able to go. One I react very badly if someone pushes me. Have been known to take a swing at said jerks and all that carrying on would just freak me out. You're very brave to go there. That patchwork quilt is beautiful and it probably would've cost more at a Op shop than what you paid for everything 😊 xx
I can totally understand that lol. Fortunately I haven’t been shoved yet. Everyone was super polite and nice aside from the young guys who were swarming the new bins 😂 I just kept my distance from them.
I went to the bins twice. It wasn’t nearly as scary as people make it out to be. People were courteous and polite. There was no pushing, shoving, or fighting. The first time i went I found so much stuff. The second time not as much but it’s so much fun to dig! I love the thrill of the hunt but I put so much pressure on myself being ac reseller and finding those bolos that will flip for good profit I drive myself insane at times. Thrifting used to be so much fun for me, and sometimes it still is but it’s become much more like a job because it is my job and finding those bolos is priority. Before I used to love finding a brand called INC. which is a Macy’s house brand And my favorite brand to personally wear and once I got into reselling I found out that it moves slowly, if at all, and not for much $ and there is so much of it at my Goodwills and I pass it by now. So sad!
Ive had stuff stolen out of my cart more than once. Cover up your stuff w a blanket or sheet from the soft goods. Its common for stuff to get stolen when your distracted. And, put good stuff at the bottom of your cart. Don't lay it on top. Don't draw attention to any bolo you find. Sorry, but it's the truth. The bins attract some unsavory people.
You probably would have spent at least $40 at the regular Goodwill for all that stuff. Good job. I’m not a bins person tho and your description of the experience reconfirmed why. Lol. Nope. I’ll pay more to avoid the grossness and competition of bins digging! But you do you girl!❤😂
I'm hoping when I finally try this ill find stuff for wrapping up things for etsy shop ( which I don't exactly have yet but yk being prepared and all is better than not)
If you’re in the US I think you can just Google search “goodwill outlet” or “goodwill clearance center” and it should come up. For outside the US I’m not really sure.
Just discovered you channel because i wanted to be prepared since my partner always goes to the bins and i always wanted to see (i love getting clothes for cheap) . Its surprising to me that you don't have more subs.
Loved everything, especially the pirate shirts (there's actually a Seinfeld episode that involved a pirate shirt, funny stuff) and that bookend is too cool!!! All we got at our Goodwills is stuff on shelves- no bins 😢 lowest price will be $1 highest will be $8. I try not to spend no more than $4-$5 on any one item, but I struggle with it a lot lol. Another great vid in da books!!!! 😊🍻
Legit went to the bins for the first time this past weekend and thank you for the tips!! They worked out so well. Was a lot of fun but also super nasty 😷 Had to take a shower for sure lol
Yay glad it helped! And yeah as soon as I get home from the bins I throw everything in the washing machine and then immediately into the shower 😂 it’s gross but worth it when you find amazing things!
I tend to find good stuff at the bins (for myself not reselling) shoes are a nightmare though. You're so not joking about people attacking the new stocks. People will grab HUGE piles and just throw in the cart and don't bother to pick up the good portion that misses.
would be a very interesting business venture! I wonder how much The Bins actually make in the grand-scheme of Goodwill's annual income, even though Goodwill is a non-profit.
I've only gone to the Bins once, and I wasn't too impressed. They didn't seem to have a lot of stuff - most of it was pretty junky - and I didn't find anything worth getting. People were tossing stuff from one end of the bin to the other, or digging all the way down and coming up with armfuls of stuff, so I tried to come back to those bins after they moved on. I have better luck at the two local regular stores (30 and 45 minutes away); since they're both in fairly small towns (not big cities) they don't get picked over as much.
I have a theory they’re more common in America because Americans have so much stuff haha. Sadly the bins are a “last chance” before the stuff is sent to the landfill. So though it’s fun and cheap, it’s kind of sad there is so much stuff being thrown out 😢
One time I caught a young woman going through my basket at the bins with such joy and gluttony like a kid at a candy store, I couldn’t stop laughing about it till the end of the day 😂 but in the moment I said: hey, excuse me and she said sorry and hurried away 🏃🏻♀️
Omg, you are super cute and so informative! I just subscribed! I am a reseller and I have been fearing shopping at bins because shopping at Thrift stores is too expensive, but also don't know of any in Vancouver. I google and don't come up with anything. Can anyone in Vancouver tell me what to search?
Yes and to add to the other reply, some areas receive such a huge number of donations that not all donations even make it to being placed in store due to consumerism. A lot of people use goodwill donations as a way to just get rid of stuff. So if a store or donation center receives more than they’re able to stock, they’ll automatically send overflow to the clearance centers. And like Ida said the clearance center is the last step before they send the stuff to the landfill. So when bins are wheeled away they’re most likely headed to the landfill sadly. Which is why I like shopping there because not only is it cheap, but you’re saving the items from being thrown away. And the fact that you’ll find brand new stuff and rare vintage?? Insane.
Yes in my experience there are lots of kids toys and just kids items in general. I almost bought some kids clothes even though I’m not a parent… yet 😅 Seems like a good affordable place for a parent to find things for their kids!
Really?? Seems like not that good of a deal unless you find real gems. I like that the ones I’ve been to have the weight method because you can collect little things here and there that don’t make a difference. Can’t imagine paying even a dollar for some of the stuff I got lol.
@@DressMeUpScotty It use to be, "By the Pound," but after the Pandemic, it changed. In some regards it's actually better, like, when you're buying blankets or jackets!! Either way, it's usually a pretty fun thing to do!😄☺️
I wondered about this "bins" experience. Thanks for sharing your own experience and thoughts. I'd prob have a panic attack in there. I love thrifting tho. As usual, u snagged some goodies.
If you believe your finds might entice someone to snatch it out if your basket, you might consider grabbing a sheet or blanket from one of the bins and draping it over your basket. Another item to take with you is a magnifying glass.
A tip she hasn't covered is to wear a fanny pack in the front of you and do not leave your purse in the cart while you dig in the bins, because the last time I was at the bins, someone's purse was stolen from their cart while they were digging in the bins.
I honestly love the bins but the other people there put me in such a bad mood. I’m fine with crowds. Less fine with being literally shoved and cussed at and items being ripped from my hands when looking through things. Maybe it’s just the one I have close to me but the people at the one near me behave worse than any group of adults I’ve ever seen in any setting. It makes me embarrassed to be a human.
I mean… this is an older video and I’ve gotten some better filming lights in my room since then. But if you think I need to upgrade my setup still for your viewing pleasure I DO have an Amazon wishlist with that contains little equipment and lighting upgrades that anyone can contribute toward.🤷♀️ It is my goal to increase the quality of my videos but I’m limited since I make pennies from these videos 😂
@@jackiesicilian5720 Lol you’re good. I got a little sassy 😂 I think big UA-camrs with their professional soft box lights make it look easy but if I recall at the time of filming this I had a streamer key light my brother gave me zip tied to a kitchen chair as my light 😂 (I have since gotten a tripod and a couple more lights).
Holy shit the Goodwill bins in my area are so packed nowadays it's unbelievable, it used to be nice and relaxing to go. Not anymore :( People are so aggressive, rude, and smelly and they get right up in your personal space.
Something I do at my bins is people who go daily as resellers I befriended and told them my dream finds or style I look for. Then they will find me when I'm there and give me things they find that they know I will like!

Haha I don’t blame you! It’s not for everyone 😂
The bins still scare the snot out of me! 😂
I don’t blame you 😂
That quilt is beautiful! 😍
It is isn’t it 🥹♥️
THAT INTRO!! I laughed literally out loud 😂
Haha I’m glad, that’s like my fav intro I’ve done so far 🤣
@@DressMeUpScotty *chef's kiss
I'm hoping when I finally try this ill find stuff for wrapping up things for etsy shop ( which I don't exactly have yet but yk being prepared and all is better than not)
I've only heard of these bins places recently and I had no idea something like this existed! How do you find out where one is?
If you’re in the US I think you can just Google search “goodwill outlet” or “goodwill clearance center” and it should come up. For outside the US I’m not really sure.
Oh, ok! Thanks so much!
Lol get those employees a whistle! 😂 it would drive me crazy if I had to be where people were competing against the same bin.
I also go through what people leave behind. I find a lot of gems! Vintage gems❤ I am a scavenger of scavengers!😂 Tyfs🎉
Thanks for the tips. I’m going tomorrow!
I tend to find good stuff at the bins (for myself not reselling) shoes are a nightmare though. You're so not joking about people attacking the new stocks. People will grab HUGE piles and just throw in the cart and don't bother to pick up the good portion that misses.
Oh my goodness that seems stressful! I would probably have an anxiety attack! lol
It can be but if you go in prepared and with a friend it’s not that bad. Just avoid the crowded areas of the store Id say 😁
Thanks for wearing a mask!! ❤ -from an immunocompromised thrift lover
🥰♥️
Have an updated tetanus shot! I've been cut several times on broken glass. Even with gloves on
I honestly wish the U.K. had something like this, damn
would be a very interesting business venture!
I would also squeal if I found that Animal Crossing shirt! So cute!
I live the bag you hade When filming at the bins. Where did you ger it?
Oh damn I wish Sweden had a place with these kinds of outletbins so bad
I have a theory they’re more common in America because Americans have so much stuff haha. Sadly the bins are a “last chance” before the stuff is sent to the landfill. So though it’s fun and cheap, it’s kind of sad there is so much stuff being thrown out 😢
@@DressMeUpScotty Imagine how many goodies are in the landfill!🤪
One time I caught a young woman going through my basket at the bins with such joy and gluttony like a kid at a candy store, I couldn’t stop laughing about it till the end of the day 😂 but in the moment I said: hey, excuse me and she said sorry and hurried away 🏃🏻♀️
Omg, you are super cute and so informative! I just subscribed! I am a reseller and I have been fearing shopping at bins because shopping at Thrift stores is too expensive, but also don't know of any in Vancouver. I google and don't come up with anything. Can anyone in Vancouver tell me what to search?
Ooof that bin rushing experience sounds a bit intense! 😱
It can be really intense! I keep my distance from the crowds as best I can lol.
Sorry if you answered this already in the video - but where do all of this things comes from? Random donations? 😅
Spill over from the regular thrift stores, in other words what doesn't sell. That's another step before getting rid of them permanently.
Insane.
If I'm only interested in kids toys, is there a lot of them there?
Yes in my experience there are lots of kids toys and just kids items in general. I almost bought some kids clothes even though I’m not a parent… yet 😅 Seems like a good affordable place for a parent to find things for their kids!
@@DressMeUpScotty thank you!
Quilters inscribe with permanent fabric marker or embroidery, their name and the date they completed the quilt. It’s a thing - that’s the context
At our "Bins," they charge $1 an item.
Either way, it's usually a pretty fun thing to do!😄☺️
@@totallytania7978 that is true it’s probably a steal for heavy items! Not to mention if you find true vintage that would be sold for a lot elsewhere.
I wondered about this "bins" experience. Thanks for sharing your own experience and thoughts. I'd prob have a panic attack in there. I love thrifting tho. As usual, u snagged some goodies.
So cute the quilt has my brothers birthday dated on it he'd of been 3 that day
The cart hoarder ladies are pushy don't make eye contact bring a bag is great advice! From las vegas and them cart ladies have two carts a piece 😬
AAAHAAA SO FLIBBIN CLOSE TO TEN K WHY, not scotty pullin up with a sword at the bins, haha iconic

My bf went to the bins with his sister and he had some good stuff in his cart and like 2 people just came up, grabbed from his cart and ran away😭
AY LOVE!! YOUR VIDEOS SO MUCH BESTE!!😆😊x
Tysm 🥰
Carts with you hard earned finds do get stolen! It happened to me, and I also saw it happen to someone else.
Yikes! That’s why the buddy system is good. I never go alone and we always keep an eye out for eachother.
If you believe your finds might entice someone to snatch it out if your basket, you might consider grabbing a sheet or blanket from one of the bins and draping it over your basket. Another item to take with you is a magnifying glass.
@@MariaMartinez-ks6qq lol why the magnifying glass?
A tip she hasn't covered is to wear a fanny pack in the front of you and do not leave your purse in the cart while you dig in the bins, because the last time I was at the bins, someone's purse was stolen from their cart while they were digging in the bins.
Which outlet location
Hiii, i love the intro 😂 may i know what is the title of that jazz music? 0:01-0:03
Haha Ty!! It’s one of my fav intros 🤣 the song is New York, New York by Frank Sinatra.
Omg it’s so cheap 🥺🥺 so jealous
I’ve never had good luck with the bins. I’ve tried several times. And the people I find are so rude. Grabbing at stuff and throwing things around.
Bring snacks and water?
Very helpful. Thank you.
That quilt...
♥️♥️♥️
My bins are not dirty like that.
People are feral. hahahaha
really prepares us what we are facing.
Books is like 99 cents here😭😭
I honestly love the bins but the other people there put me in such a bad mood.
I put sheet on my cart. No one will go in your cart.
The resellers are like vultures
We're not all like that!
Get some lights at the Goodwill bins it's way too dark where you're filming I can't see anything you're showing
@@DressMeUpScotty I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude I just wanted to see what you were talking about
@@jackiesicilian5720 Lol you’re good. I got a little sassy 😂 I think big UA-camrs with their professional soft box lights make it look easy but if I recall at the time of filming this I had a streamer key light my brother gave me zip tied to a kitchen chair as my light 😂 (I have since gotten a tripod and a couple more lights).
@@DressMeUpScotty She's a marketing girly!
Holy shit the Goodwill bins in my area are so packed nowadays it's unbelievable, it used to be nice and relaxing to go. Not anymore :(
