I think what make Legally Blonde so good, both as a musical and as a film, is that it’s never apologetic about what it is or tries to tone itself down for a general audience. They take all the aspects of femininity they represent and embrace them for all their good and bad.
Something Mortius mentioned once in his solo channel is how this kind of content usually attracts the audience of what they are reacting to, and when the series is finished they go away, which is understandable. But like, I don't know anything about legally blonde and yet here I am, watching this new series, simply because this is the best reaction channel on UA-cam
I love Legally Blonde The Musical, but I still totally get your point, because I've literally started following along with the RWBY reactions on OAR even though I've never seen it before and never prevously had any interest in watching it! I will watch literally anything that Mortius and Casper do videos for here on OAR (unless I've already seen it, though I might rewatch it anyway, lol)
When I started with Mortius it was cause of epic but I have stayed since then and I then also fell in love with Casper’s reactions. I have watched hadestown and now these reactions even though I don’t know a lot about these two musicals. I also watched encanto and the other musical stuff they watched but I know more about that stuff than I did about hadestown and legally blonde.
@@heartnerd6768 I started with Mortius because of his VoicePlay reactions, and discovered Epic because of him - he was up to about the end of Cyclops Saga I think when I finally got curious about the videos and decided to find out what this "Epic The Musical" was all about.
About the dog: if I remember correctly, Bruiser is typically played by a shelter bb that has an aptitude for learning tricks (thus promoting animal adoption). The understudy to OG Bruiser in the musical was definitely adopted by cast members Orfeh and Andy Karl. ❤
Bruiser was played by a former shelter dog! Bruiser and I believe Rufus were both found and trained by Berloni Theatrical Animals (the same person has trained most of, if not all, professional Sandys in the US since the original production of Annie). Most recently he has trained the dogs who will be used in the new production of Gypsy with Audra McDonald.

the dog telling them where to find Elle is a joke in media from the old tv series/movie Lassie where the dog Lassie alerts her owner that a child is stuck in a well by barking and its as if the kid can understand her. the origin scene is foggy debated but thats the culture media joke theyre drawing on "whats that lassie? Timmy fell down a well?!"
The "quick change" isn't an actual quick change. It was just two different actors. One starts to go down the pole and then someone else is waiting to come down. That's why they have a big banner there covering it up.
My guess.. pole quick change was two actresses. One was on the walkway waiting behind that conveniently placed fabric. Actress in robe grabs pole on left, bends down and then the one crouched down waiting to the right of the pole drops down "fully ready to go"
And Elle's quick change is just a dress over her hero dress. It's held on with magnets. Pull it off like a towel, let the longer skirt drop. The sales manager carries away her overdress. That's also in the BTS
Legally Blonde is such a good movie that I'm convinced the only reason it ended with Elle and Emmett getting together is because that's what people expected. It absolutely could have ended with Elle graduating and leaving it open ended with Emmett and still have been a banger romcom. It's one of the few notable movies that turns "girl boss" movies on their heads and actually does a genuine girl boss correctly.
It’s basically for that reason that I wouldn’t really consider Legally Blonde (the movie at least) to be a romcom. It does technically fit the definition but I’d say it’s more of a general “chick flick” with a background romance. The musical is more of a romcom, which makes sense especially since they make Emmett’s character more prominent in general. But in the movie Emmett and Elle only really have a couple kinda flirty moments. The focus is much more on Elle’s journey and growth as a lawyer and a person. I can see positives and negatives in both versions and I enjoy both for what they are.
I remember when I first saw this on UA-cam, I was like, "WHAT? They made Legally Blonde a musical?" Then I got to Elle's quick change in the first song and I was hooked. I have the entire musical on my Spotify.
@@kory_misun Unless they are Serena* (idk if that's the right name, I had to look up who was the character that quick changed on the pole slide, I haven't watched LBM or the og movie. It's just supposed to be a dumb joke about breaking a leg on a fall)
The pole quick change isn’t black magic, it’s two separate actors. That’s why the girl in the robe starts going down the pole on the left side, but her her fully dressed self pops out sliding down the right side of the pole
@@SuperiorPosterior Alas I did not, but I still really enjoyed the reaction video when I did get to watch it, and I'm still tempted to catch the premiere for at least one or two videos in this series when they get to certain songs
Laura Bell Bundy, on top of her incredible vocal chops, is SUCH a good comedic actress as well, you can see it in every movement she makes as Elle. Perfection. Queen.
The pole quick change was actually two different actresses! The first one (in the mask) slides down and hides herself behind the balcony, and the second one is already ready and waiting to slide down on cue! And Mortius's explanation of the second quick change is almost spot on! The white dress is held together by magnets, and she's already wearing the duplicate pink dress underneath. The dress the sales manager brings in is carried off stage. Also fun fact about Laura Bell Bundy (who plays Elle) - she had a heart condition through most of her run as Elle (I believe it was a small hole in her heart), and on the day the proshot was filmed she had a cold. She was also the original understudy actress for Kristin Chenoweth in her role as Glinda in Wicked all the way back in 2003. She's incredible. Unfortunately, Legally Blonde strained and destroyed her voice over the two years she was attached to it. She has only recently started to return to theatre.
Quick changes truly are insane, and I give credit both to the actors and those who help with the quick changes. I had a quick change once that was less than a minute changing from a ballgown into a simpler dress, and I made it every single night 😆
My favorite bit of trivia about this show is not actually about the show - the actress who plays Margot (the extra ditzy blonde friend, bless her) is Annaleigh Ashford. The one thing I knew her from prior to this was a (admittedly bootleg) recording of Next to Normal before it was Next to Normal, back when it was called "Feeling Electric". In FE, Natalie (the daughter) is a much harsher character than in NTN, who is angry, partying and using drugs, and otherwise just a troublemaker to try to get some attention from her family. And in that era of workshops she was played byyyyy! Annaleigh Ashford. It's just a silly little VERY niche (you probably had to be in broadway fandom in 2005-2006 to even be familiar with it niche) bit of trivia, but it always just made me laugh that she went from rebellious suicidal high schooler to ditzy blonde sorority girl, role-wise. XD Shows off her acting chops at least!
Literally had to go back and listen for the dress-violin now, just like Mortius I thought I KNEW this musical but that is such a fun insight. I think my brain always just thought of it as "excitment building" and not "ominous warning" and so I never made the connection :o

My best friend got to meet Reese Witherspoon in the most bizarre way, helped her out, and ended up with a new car. Back in the early 2000s, my BFF worked at a Hollywood salon, lots of stars went in there, so meeting a star wasn't that big of a deal for her anymore. As she was leaving work one day, a lady wearing sunglasses ran up to her and begged for a ride. It was Reese Witherspoon, having just won Best Actress for "Walk the Line." The paparazzi were outside, packed so thickly that her limo driver couldn't get to her. She needed a ride from the salon to the limo. My friend drove a beater car, clunky, rattling, peeling paint, and McDonald's wrappers scattered around. She felt awful having a superstar ride with her in "The Crap-Mobile" as we called it, but she wanted to help a sister out. No paparazzi paid attention to this POS beater pulling out of the employee parking lot. They drove a few blocks down to an alley where Reese's driver was hiding out. Reese apologized that she had no cash on her, but as a thanks she gave my BFF her gift basket from the Oscars that was still sitting in her back seat. This MASSIVE basket was filled with tens of thousands of dollars worth of resort tickets, spa treatments, jewelry, cosmetics, and chocolates. We sat around eating all these ridiculously expensive chocolates, she gave some of the jewelry and cosmetics to her friends, took her boyfriend on a Colorado resort trip, and sold the rest. It was enough for her to get a new car. So it's not really that Reese Witherspoon "bought her a new car" but in a way... yeah! Still one of the craziest stories I've ever heard. I wanted to share it with the Open Arms crew.
I am SO excited to see Casper react to Legally Blonde. It is, imo, a perfect movie. The show is so fun and the music is so so good. Laura and Christian are AMAZING vocalists. So excited to see the rest of this series
Honestly, totally understand and with you, Mortius. Legally Blonde is easily in my top 5, if not 3 depending on my mood, of favorite musicals. It just makes me so happy to listen to it or watch it; a true musical of joy 💕🥰💕
Y’all HAVE! To watch into the woods. It’s all Hans Christian Andersen stories with a twist so Casper will get the references and it’s one of my favorite shows.
This is one of my favorite musicals of all time as well. I'm so happy to see someone reacting to it. I got to do a community theatre production and play Vivienne and it was so fun.
Hooray, I've been SO excited for this, ohmigod you guys! (Let's bring some needed love back to musicals like Legally Blonde and Hadestown! They're treasures for our ears.)
The dress shop quick change is velcro, actually. Not sure if anyone watched the reality show when they were searching for the next Elle Woods when LBB was going to leave the show, but they explained it in an episode
The film Legally Blonde is based on the book Legally Blonde written by Amanda Brown. So you have a book turned into a film turned into a musical! And if you like reading then I do recommend the book. It’s a fun read and will make you appreciate all the folks who’ve worked to adapt it into the film version and musical version. Like I’m definitely the type that often thinks “the book was better”, but with this story I find all three versions to be equally amazing at successfully telling the story and vibes in each medium’s format. It’s a rare thing for me to think that. Love knowing this your favorite musical! And Casper talking about the expression of “legally blonde” that he knows and I definitely feel like I’ve had such a blonde moment for years because I hadn’t even made that connection in all these 20+ years! (I was born with blonde hair, but it darkened by the time I was a teen. I joke it darkened because that’s when I started taking my academic studies more seriously. I think you can grasp why I love this story then! 😊).
ok ive made a terrible mistake in my judgement. basically i never eatched legally blonde and decided to watch with you all, i watched the first two song, and then this video,, and omigod was stuck in my head so i decided fuck it lets watch the whole thing and then ill patiently wait for the rest of reactions to release. damn i just finished watching it and im OBSESSED and now i cant wait for the next reaction???? why did i do this to myself😔🤙🏻🤙🏻
If you want a quick change youbshpukd seek out "our house" a british musocal with the sings from the band Madness - its a dyel timeline plot with the most quick changes ive ever seen a main character do!
My recommendations to react to once you all have finished Legally Blonde and take a break for your health are Repo the genetic opera, Sweeny Todd, Beetlejuice, and Percy Jackson the musical. These are all wildly different to each other and would be great watch with Casper! I hope you guys enjoy and I can't wait to see how it all turns out!

Legally Blonde being your favorite musical is such a fun choice! Funny enough, my favorite musical is Falsettos and the revival stars Christian Borle (who plays Emmett in Legally Blonde), and the original cast of Falsettos starred the guy who played Callahan in Legally Blonde.

YEAH LETS GO! LEGALLY BLONDE!
I’m going to be in Legally Blonde for my school’s spring musical this year :D
Aaa, oh my god! I hope you have so much fun!
Honestly, totally understand and with you, Mortius. Legally Blonde is easily in my top 5, if not 3 depending on my mood, of favorite musicals. It just makes me so happy to listen to it or watch it; a true musical of joy 💕🥰💕
I remember doing omigod you guys for my school show (which was a mash up of different musicals) and I loveddd it! It was such a fun song to dance to
i have never been so early to the beginning of a series. so excited to join you guys for this one. it’s one of my absolute favs
I'm so happy yall are doing legally blonde, as it is also one of my fav musicals too. Literally one of my hyperfixations earlier this year(^.^)
Y’all HAVE! To watch into the woods. It’s all Hans Christian Andersen stories with a twist so Casper will get the references and it’s one of my favorite shows.
OHMIGOD!!! So excited, I saw this show when my friend played Elle, I love this show and would love to be either Enid Hoops or Vivienne :)
It is such a good film to stage adaptation, using the music to highlight the themes and emotions.
This is one of my favorite musicals of all time as well. I'm so happy to see someone reacting to it. I got to do a community theatre production and play Vivienne and it was so fun.
It's hard to pick a favorite character but Vivienne is Up There. Thank you for the hard work that you put into your art!
@ thanks :) I wish I could play her again. I was lucky, that was my very first audition for a musical and I got such a great fun part.
@@triene8655 Aaa, I wish I could have been part of the audience! I'm so happy you got your first audition ever!
So Mortius... you have a cover of Chip out there or what?
👀
19:25 they actually have a behind the scenes of that dress change
so happy for the Legally Blonde love! this is also one of my faves and I think it's terrible underrated
We can get new people reacting and maybe even doing animatics so we can bring up enthusiasm again!
Hooray, I've been SO excited for this, ohmigod you guys! (Let's bring some needed love back to musicals like Legally Blonde and Hadestown! They're treasures for our ears.)
How did I miss this!! It’s my favourite musical of all time!! I literally screamed when it got in my notifications!!
YESSSS LEGALLY BLONDE this is so peak
love this musical sm I watched at least 20+ high school productions on here. it's so fun🤌
My friend made me watch this musical today, fully through. Can’t wait to see how much Casper guesses with yet another musical
Finally my favorite musical❤ I am looking forward to Caspers reactions😊 What tier of the patreon gives you access to the unedited content?
I love this musical. I love how they took great characters and gave them even more.
The dichotomy of this reaction is amazing ❤
I literally screamed when I saw this!!!! AAAA! I love LOVE this musical and your reaction was PERFECT AAAAA
Oh awesome! I saw the UA-cam short and was like “OMG?” But there wasn’t a video up yet! So excited to watch :)
Aaaaah I’m so glad you’re doing this!!!
for elle's quickchange, i saw a bts that i think said they used magnets to hold the one dress
ok ive made a terrible mistake in my judgement. basically i never eatched legally blonde and decided to watch with you all, i watched the first two song, and then this video,, and omigod was stuck in my head so i decided fuck it lets watch the whole thing and then ill patiently wait for the rest of reactions to release. damn i just finished watching it and im OBSESSED and now i cant wait for the next reaction???? why did i do this to myself😔🤙🏻🤙🏻
OMIGOD, OMIGOD YOU GUYSSSSSS
I love that Caspar knew the finger snapping comes from slam poetry 💖
This show is also unironically in my top three, I think. It pulls emotions out of my body whether I want it to or not. It’s SO well done. 💕
I saw Legally Blonde live about 12 years ago and it was such a fun time! So glad to see it get love ❤️
I'm so happy right now~
If you want a quick change youbshpukd seek out "our house" a british musocal with the sings from the band Madness - its a dyel timeline plot with the most quick changes ive ever seen a main character do!
Omigod I've literally listened to this soundtrack exclusively for over a year because i love this musical so much 😂
had no idea there was a musical....i loved this movie as a teen 😅....this is sooo much fun
13:18 i am not sure that that was a quick change. I think it was a second person. But either way, amazing!
Your RWBY reaction had my interest, now you have my attention.
I've been searching for reaction kn full musical of thisss 🎉
I’M LATE but hello i’m here anyway so excited to see casper see legally blonde for the first time, first musical i ever saw and first dream role i ever had
