That Lolo pass drive to Lewiston has been a bucket list for a while and it has still eluded me on my travels. Once warmer weather returns it is a must. It looks amazing. Pure and complete wilderness on both sides for miles and miles

I think my fave song by you is that one that played when you left the "ringing rocks," always puts a smile on my face lol....and man, it kinda sucks that there are so many unique and interesting things you can only get to with a higher clearance vehicle...don't think I will ever have one in my lifetime, especially with how much gas it costs for those....but at least you give us a way to see them as up close and personal as it can get...thank you. p.s...now i gotta go to Butte...looks like a really neat town!

Love your travel journal as I plan to drive back out to Idaho from Ohio and will be following part of Lewis and Clark with side trip to Glacier NP before dropping into Boise. Thanks for putting in all the place names along the way as I like to pause the video and locate the sites on Google maps as I am a map person.

Hello from Lewiston, Idaho. Too bad you couldn't have stayed in our hometown a little longer. Lewis and Clark camped on the Washington side of the confluence, directly across from the bridge crossing from Lewiston to Clarkston and met the Nez Perce on the Weippe Prairie, above Orofino. The Nez Perce were credited for helping them survive the winter when they crossed Lolo. If you ever make it this way again would love to show you around.
Hi Sara! I’m in the LC Valley too! I was waiting for this episode to see Lewiston/Clarkston, but Robert had to breeze right through. Was hoping he’d show off the town a bit more with the river just because it’s fun to see through someone else’s eyes. I spent the summer at the beach with the kayak & SUP. Found a great little swimming hole!

The Louis and Clark expedition started at the point, the beginning of the Ohio river in Pittsburgh PA. That was considered the gateway to the west at one time. Everything west of Pittsburgh was considered unexplored
When you were in St. Louis a few years ago and visited that church right next to the Arch, Sacagawea's baby was baptized in that parish when they returned to St. Louis. The church was built in 1834 so not in that actual church, but at a previous church on that site.

Another outstanding video! Butte! My grandmother came to the Butte/ Anaconda in 1906 from Ireland! Cardwell, MT is named after one of the State Senators that was part of making Montana a State. He was the reason so many from Antrim County, Ireland came to Butte. ❤

Hi Robert. I think this one is my favorite of the Lewis and Clark episodes so far! I need to definitely revisit this area. I did US 12 over Lolo Pass back in 1998 but I went east instead of west. That was one of my more epic road trips! I did Helena, Great Falls and Glacier National Park. I came back through Canada over the Crowsnest Pass (highly recommended). It’s funny that until you mentioned it about Lewiston and Clarkston. I never made the connection until you mentioned it. I can’t wait to see the finale, a lot more places that I have been to as well!
If it's Sunday morning, it must be time for coffee and a new LC2022 episode! I had the same smoke/visibility problem back in 2020 -- it kind of puts a damper on the experience of being in "Big Sky" country. I'm a big fan of show caves, I definitely need to add L&C Caverns to my list. In Butte at 23:30 I think you're walking right past the Piccadilly Transportation Museum, I wonder if it's still open anymore. Seeing all the different depictions of L&C, Sacajawea (and Seaman), I wonder if anyone has ever put together an online collection to compare them all. Congratulations on your new Chevy! You should have a 20 amp circuit from your truck to the trailer to charge the battery. However because the alternator can put out well over 100 amps, and the Lithium battery can accept more amperage than the stock lead acid battery, it can cause the fuse to trip, probably the Colorado fuse tripped, and that is why it would not charge your battery. I would suggest getting a automatic reset circuit breaker to replace the fuse in your new truck. If the trailer draws more than 20 amps, the circuit breaker will overheat (before the wire can be damaged) and then cool off after about 15 minutes, and reset itself automatically. There is also a control that can limit the charge rate of a Li-Ion battery when in a RV, so it will not overload the alternator. It is very important that Lewis and Clark made it to Oregon by the time there was deep snow in Montana! Did you know they brought a metal pot to make salt once they reached the Pacific Ocean? That way they could preserve deer meat for the trip back home. I live about 1/2 mile south of the Columbia River, and 8 miles east of Portland Oregon! So you where very close to my house when you did that part of the trip.
Three Rivers, the Missouri Confluence was indeed flooded as part of the catastrophic "500-year" flood event, 2022, in Yellowstone. We were camping at the confluence during the flood and had to map out an escape route just in case. It was profound. It looks like the signs were moved to save them from the flood. You missed the nature trail from the middle of the Confluence Campground. It's the best part :-) but I don't know how much of it washed out. Be sure to catch it next time. And though there are no hook ups, the campground is, I believe, $35 a night and very quaint. They often have guest speakers for ranger presentations, but the local Rangers are fascinating to hear, as well. Safe travels!

We went to Montana from Oregon in late September. It has been fun watching your videos and seeing place we were too. We drove Lolo Pass west to east. We drove back to Oregon east through Wyoming and stayed in Yellowstone a few days the south to the Grand Tetons. We traveled Teton Pass back into Idaho. It was great :) Take care!

Robert I grew up in Butte Montana-The Mining City and also known as Butte America -really enjoyed see Butte and L&C Caverns-Been there many times -You should come to Butte and explore the Mines, Berkeley Pit full of water -and “the War of the Copper Kings”very interesting history-Our Lady of the Rockies” is also worth it -Enjoying this L&C adventures 😃🚌🇺🇸

We live in salmon. Pretty nice area. The fires were from the Moose Creek fire. 3 firefighters died in that incident. Two helicopter pilots and one firefighter. The Savage grill is named after the high school mascot.

We were at Glacier NP on Sept 11-15. We encountered forest fire smoke our entire trip. Although we particularly encountered smoke-fog on our Lake McDonald & Multi Glacier lake tours, we fortunately didn't smell the fire.
Like that you stopped in Salmon...Have been there several times as my father lived there for alot of yrs after parents divorced until he passed...Just went through there two yrs ago on our way to camp at North fork just up the road a bit....When its not smokey, its a beautiful area...Had planned to retire there but a woman got involved and stuff changed LOL ...Have also skied at the resort at Lost Trail Pass.(Continental Divide)....Was wondering if they still had all the log cabin kit companies as you travel from Lost Trail to Missoula ??? Used to be alot of them you would see on the road there and i didnt see any in your video....Travel safe, be well....
@Traveling Robert I am sure your Colorado could have charged the batteries, but bet the HOT wire was not hooked up on the plug end of the truck or if it was, a fuse was blown. Should not be much difference in alternator's. Btw, you know me, regardless of vehicle I would have taken the road and very glad you did, sure it built your confidence and made you feel good about the decision in updating trucks. By now I doubt you would want to go back to a mid-size towing vehicle.
Whoops. Slight mistake with labeling the location at 43:03 where you drove up to Lemhi Pass but labeled it as Lolo Pass. No big deal and keep up with the great video work!
Lewis and Clark made a crucial mistake when they arrived near what is now Missoula, and they decided to make a southerly crossing over the Bitteroots instead of taking a northerly route on the Clark Fork river. Their Indian guides were unfamiliar with the route, and Clark scouted the Clark Fork and found it to be too turbulent and rugged. They didn't realize that the river eventually ended at the Columbia via the Pend d'Oreille. They would have had to cross 50 miles of rugged country then it would have been clear and downhill all the way to Washington. Too bad about the smoke - the Bitterroots are stunning.

Just curious now that you have had the new truck for awhile, how do you feel about it as a tow vehicle compared to your previous one? It looks great for sure. Great penultimate episode Robert. So cool seeing the town setup for “1923” season coming up. You and the other 3 people really should watch Yellowstone lol… Also, if any way you subscribe to FoX Nation, Kevin Costner has a 4 part documentary on there about Yellowstone NP’s 150th anniversary. The final episode (4), he really highlights Lewis & Clark but really John Colter who L&C picked up in Kentucky for their expedition. When it was over, he did not accompany either of them back East. Instead he went off and found what is now Yellowstone NP. There’s so many stories about him I don’t want to spoil but Costner covers them a lot in the 4th episode. I hope you get to see it. The whole 4 part series actually.
“Colter’s Hell” is what they called what he described seeing there, not believing a word of it. It’s unfortunate L&C didn’t dip into what became Yellowstone. Ferninand Hayden did on his Expedition for the Government in 1871 and he found out Colter wasn’t lying.
The Ringing Rocks looks Awesome! I wonder if that can be reached with a long range electric bicycle? Maybe if I park closer to the bad off road section, and ride from there?
39:49 he used mountain tops to make angles and then he locked his logs in ! he was glad to get into the mountains so that he had landmarks to get angles from ! the compass helped but it was not that important ! the mountain tops( landmarks )were what was important !
I’m surprised you didn’t stop at Traveler’s Rest State Park in Lolo, MT. It is the only archaeologically confirmed site of a Lewis and Clark campground. Pretty cool and a must see for anyone following the trail.

We went to Montana from Oregon in late September. It has been fun watching your videos and seeing place we were too. We drove Lolo Pass west to east. We drove back to Oregon east through Wyoming and stayed in Yellowstone a few days the south to the Grand Tetons. We traveled Teton Pass back into Idaho. It was great :) Take care!

Robert I grew up in Butte Montana-The Mining City and also known as Butte America -really enjoyed see Butte and L&C Caverns-Been there many times -You should come to Butte and explore the Mines, Berkeley Pit full of water -and “the War of the Copper Kings”very interesting history-Our Lady of the Rockies” is also worth it -Enjoying this L&C adventures 😃🚌🇺🇸

We live in salmon. Pretty nice area. The fires were from the Moose Creek fire. 3 firefighters died in that incident. Two helicopter pilots and one firefighter. The Savage grill is named after the high school mascot.
It's too bad the Washington/ Idaho smoke obscured the skies..... Peace my friend- if you are ever traveling the hi line and need a place to park your home for a day or three- look me up... Thank you for your vids!!

There were many forest fires in Idaho mainly.
Off road Trail Etiquette , Remember vehicle climbing up hill has the right of way. So if you’re descending you should be the one pulling over.
We were at Glacier NP on Sept 11-15. We encountered forest fire smoke our entire trip. Although we particularly encountered smoke-fog on our Lake McDonald & Multi Glacier lake tours, we fortunately didn't smell the fire.
Like that you stopped in Salmon...Have been there several times as my father lived there for alot of yrs after parents divorced until he passed...Just went through there two yrs ago on our way to camp at North fork just up the road a bit....When its not smokey, its a beautiful area...Had planned to retire there but a woman got involved and stuff changed LOL ...Have also skied at the resort at Lost Trail Pass.(Continental Divide)....Was wondering if they still had all the log cabin kit companies as you travel from Lost Trail to Missoula ??? Used to be alot of them you would see on the road there and i didnt see any in your video....Travel safe, be well....

@Traveling Robert I am sure your Colorado could have charged the batteries, but bet the HOT wire was not hooked up on the plug end of the truck or if it was, a fuse was blown. Should not be much difference in alternator's. Btw, you know me, regardless of vehicle I would have taken the road and very glad you did, sure it built your confidence and made you feel good about the decision in updating trucks. By now I doubt you would want to go back to a mid-size towing vehicle.

I was in Kingman, AZ on September 10th on our Route 66 journey!
Lewis and Clark made a crucial mistake when they arrived near what is now Missoula, and they decided to make a southerly crossing over the Bitteroots instead of taking a northerly route on the Clark Fork river. Their Indian guides were unfamiliar with the route, and Clark scouted the Clark Fork and found it to be too turbulent and rugged. They didn't realize that the river eventually ended at the Columbia via the Pend d'Oreille. They would have had to cross 50 miles of rugged country then it would have been clear and downhill all the way to Washington. Too bad about the smoke - the Bitterroots are stunning.

Also, if any way you subscribe to FoX Nation, Kevin Costner has a 4 part documentary on there about Yellowstone NP’s 150th anniversary. The final episode (4), he really highlights Lewis & Clark but really John Colter who L&C picked up in Kentucky for their expedition. When it was over, he did not accompany either of them back East. Instead he went off and found what is now Yellowstone NP. There’s so many stories about him I don’t want to spoil but Costner covers them a lot in the 4th episode. I hope you get to see it. The whole 4 part series actually.
“Colter’s Hell” is what they called what he described seeing there, not believing a word of it. It’s unfortunate L&C didn’t dip into what became Yellowstone. Ferninand Hayden did on his Expedition for the Government in 1871 and he found out Colter wasn’t lying.
The Ringing Rocks looks Awesome! I wonder if that can be reached with a long range electric bicycle? Maybe if I park closer to the bad off road section, and ride from there?
39:49 he used mountain tops to make angles and then he locked his logs in ! he was glad to get into the mountains so that he had landmarks to get angles from ! the compass helped but it was not that important ! the mountain tops( landmarks )were what was important !
I’m surprised you didn’t stop at Traveler’s Rest State Park in Lolo, MT. It is the only archaeologically confirmed site of a Lewis and Clark campground. Pretty cool and a must see for anyone following the trail.
