True these game companies need to start going back to basic. Stop making games look realistic and go to great gameplay and good story for games. And also stop these multiple players live game and come up with good single players games that 30 hrs and good
The main reason I don't have a PS5 yet, as much as I want to get one, is the prices of games. 70 dollars with almost no game getting a price drop is crazy. It means that every game I'll buy have to masterpiece in order to justfie the purchese, which is very unrealistic.
I don’t buy games new anymore. Just get it used for half the price at least. I’m always behind because my backlog is huge which helps with the cost because I’d buy a game way later when I can find it used for a fraction of the new price. Also ps plus extra is a good value.
I wanted to say something similar . With tech advancing it won't be necessary to be tied to home consoles anymore if there are other ways to play aaa games outside there respective eco systems .
@therealjaystone2344 I think that's exactly what's going to happen . In a few years pc handhelds should be playing undocked at 60 fps. If not very soon already. And mini pcs are a thing for some people as well. No need for full rigs unless your a serious competitor or want all the bells and whistles.
@therealjaystone2344 yes I agree . Rog 2 or 3 ,legion go 2, steam deck 2 . Mini pcs. I mean even the future of cpu chips and integrated graphics getting better without a need for a gpu. The newer chips for pc handhelds allowing for ai upscaling and fps performance uplifts for better performance . The tech is getting better every few years.
I knew they would eventually suffer from making Remake and Rebirth exclusives. These companies keep making deals with Sony and losing so much money. The same happened to Street Fighter 5 when it was exclusive to Playstation. 3rd party companies should for the most part stay multiplatform, unless it's a franchise owned by the specific platform and their in a deal for developing the game for them. That should be the only exception.
Oh, so Squeenix just realized that they can make more money by reaching a bigger audience & that us Nintendo & X-Box users might actually want to play their tentpole releases too? 🤯
The thing about the initial launch window is that Final Fantasy is the Flagship franchise for Square. Once those games are out, they become demystified so down the line when they launch for PC and other platforms, people know what to expect and are either not buying or going to buy. Those FOMO sales get lapped up by games such as Like a Dragon and Shin Megami Tensei games. Square isn't the only one in town when it comes to big RPG and they need to realize what other companies are doing. Its not the end all be all but it certainly is a step in the right decision to have access to more consumers with your flagship titles.
It's clear that Sony and Microsoft went into this generation thinking on scooping up as many exclusivity deals as possible, and that plan isn't panning out. Be expecting more news like this on both sides.
This "go big or go home" mentality started in the PS3 era. Arguably it's what saved the PS3. But a lot has changed. These huge budget games, much like with film, were never sustainable. You need a huge audience just to break even, and that inevitably means watering down the game for mass appeal. It's gotten to the point where every AAA game feels the same. To put it into perspective, the estimated development cost for BOTW was $40-$60 million. Which is a lot for a Nintendo game. FFVII Rebirth is estimated to have cost SE three to four times that. Which sold more in the same time frame?
FF7 remake started on PS4, but FF7 Integrade made it to PC 20 months later. Releasing two FF games in less than a year then have two dlc releases for FF16 in that time is too much for many fans. Definitely, adding the games day 1 to PC and getting them on Nintendo in the future can help sales. If you make bad games like Forspoken having multi platforms won’t necessarily save you either.
They had to adjust it. I heard when Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launched some higher ups were dissapointed. Why is our game only selling half as much as Final Fantasy 7 Remake did? It's simple math. Remake launched on the PS4. A system which at the time had an installbase of 100million. Rebirth launched on the PS5 which had around 50 million systems sold. The game selling half as much makes perfect sense. You cannot be suprised by that. Going multiplattform is the best choice for them. Launching games exclusive to PS5 or XBox Series makes no sense unless Sony and Microsoft pay for like 75% of development cost. I'm sure they get support but not that much I'm afraid.
I have seen this industry change so much in the past 6 yrs. Gamers are not cash cows we have families daily expenses gaming is a luxury and a hobby. I think these platforms are pushing the envelope a bit to much. Money isn't coming in as easily and quickly these days
I miss Squaresoft games. Enix hasn't produced one that I've kept on my shelf. I have a ton of older jrpgs but nothing newer than ff9. They really need to look back on how they put games out back to back in the same year, year after year. Smaller budgets, more games, some won't be classics but also won't be a financial blackhole.
Same except I felt things started going downhill for Square after 2001's FFX , and felt the golden age of gaming as a whole was over after 2004 or 2005 , so shortly after Squaresoft died/merged.
The more games come to PC, especially if they're Linux/Steam Deck friendly, the better. I'm just done keeping 2-3 separate boxes under the TV to play the various different games I want to play. Being able to play thru Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc. on my Steam Deck has been awesome. Sony has been releasing some absolute bangers on PC so I'm more than happy to give them my money for a game that I can keep basically forever and replay on whatever new PC I happen to have at the time.
Rebirth tanking in sales has nothing to do with exclusivity, but everything to do with the game being infested with mini games. Sales should have doubled due to ff7 remake success but it didn't, guess why? Rebirth is literally a mini-game title, I never seen a game with so many mini games.
@@differentsame9402 yeah it’s also a bloated Ubisoft open world, messed up the most important scene in the franchises history, and the storyline is absolute fan fiction dogshit
I don't see why this is bad for console owners . If you want to play on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, or PC just play there and enjoy. I have a PC and PlayStation . I may get a Nintendo if they made a game I wanted and couldn't get anywhere else. I even get some do the same games on PC and PS5 to enjoy where I can. No need for Xbox at the .moment as I get their games on PC . That works for me. The more people playing games where they want is a win for us, the consumer
That's exactly what I do. I have a powerful PC, a ps5 and a switch. Covers all the bases pretty much. I have more games than time on the planet I think :( Can't forget my 360, ps2, and ps1 either ;)
Here I am with my wallet open for FF16 and FF7 Rebirth, but on PC. PS5, a far smaller platform, was never a smartly timed exclusivity idea, as I'm not alone.
I do wonder how this will affect the handheld market. I feel like game devs could develop beautiful games for handhelds that cost less to produce and cost less for the consumers to purchase. Like even back when I had a GBA, a GBC, and a DS, I was buying more games than I am now with regular standard consoles. I was even buying more games with the PSP and PSVITA than I am now. A lot of us even switched to PC because there's more access on PC to all the old games and the new games. It's like console exclusivity has switched from being intended for certain audiences to intended to sell consoles. I think the world needs handhelds and less bulky standard consoles to save the market or just switch to no exclusives and focus on PC sale for the big titles and you can have indie small-cost games on handhelds.
Ultimately it’s software sales that keep you afloat, and if you’re restricting yourself to just one platform then that platform better be helping out with the expenses that come along with the growing costs of game development. This is precisely why console exclusivies will mostly be a thing of the past in the future.
Sega and capcom were going through the same thing now look at them they are both killing it square needs to start putting things on switch/switch 2 xbox series x and pc now becuase its clearly not working just on ps5 i just hope they actually find their brain and start porting stuff soon so they can make money and people who dont own a ps5 can finally play these games.
I’m a PS5 guy but even I see they need to go multiplatform. Why limit your fan base when you can reach them on multiple consoles & PC Both final fantasy 16 & FF7 should be enjoyed by many, not just limited to the PS5
Where I live there has NEVER been any PS5s in stock in the stores since it came out. They still just have signs up that say if you want a PS5 you need to make an order online, they don't have the ability to stock them for in person purchases lol.
My whole life was sony . I had my buddy for a few years telling me to go the pc route . I finally did. And i see that since the pc handhelds came out you dont really need a full rig anymore to play aaa games. So i dont know the number of ppl going the pc route but i dont think the exclusive route is the way to go in the future . I remember consoles use to be the only way to play aaa and modern titles . Now there are alternative ways outside the console eco systems to do that . Of course if you have some extra cash to break away from the home console.
The average budget of a 16bit 2D game in 1992 was $200,000 Games now are costing up to $300 Million Something has to change soon or there will be another crash.
The problem isn't that games budgets are increasing(unless the game doesn't make back that) it's just that these companies focus on JUST those size games/games with that budget. If more of these companies started to fund smaller games alongside these big budget games we would see them doing ok or being able to sustain such high costs. Making smaller sprite/ 8 bit Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest games or help smaller IPs get greenlit.
There were some smaller games (Octopath e.g.) made by SE, which were primarly made for Switch. But they did seem to not sell that well. Didn't help that they never really marketed them outside of the Switch. I just learnt today, that these games released on Steam.
@@LG555 But see a game like Octopath probably only has to sell maybe half a million to break even and start making a profit. Thats the reason it's smart to invest more in games like OT. They have quicker turnaround and can profit much quicker and essentially function like an indie game. Indie games can have huge success fairly quickly because of budget restraints. Big companies like SE should start putting value on small games and what can be made from them than just the heavy hitters. Also I realize there are smaller games made by these companies but not enough focus is put on them especially when you look at advertising.
Square released more smaller and AA games then their big AAA, problem is the games were mostly crap and didn’t sell well, all of their big directors want to make the big games, Star ocean, valkyrie elysium, octopath, Babylons fall, livealive… not like they can spend big money marketing these games too if they spend as much as those big titles on marketing and they still don’t sell they are in a bigger hole… I don’t think they need smaller games they don’t seem to be great in the AA space, and only ok in the 16bit octopath style games, they need to focus on what they are good at and release at least on pc at the same time with the big titles and they will be ok.

This is good news! I am a fan of the ps5 sure. But only for the exclusives. I HATE exclusives. I have everything so I can play everything. I am also a pc user, and switch occasionally. Time and time again when companies go multi plat they immediately see success. Look at Atlus for example. They have received a huge influx of players for their games when they went multi plat. It does drive success. Idk what these devs are doing. 🤷♂️
Thank you, I'm glad some one else agrees with me that putting FF7 Rebirth on Xbox would have hardly made a difference in sales. The switch is too weak to play it, so Nintendo fans would have to wait until next year to play it. So the logical choice was to release it on PC day one so they could've had a profit. As popular as FF franchise is, it is NOT God of War or Spiderman levels of popularity, so square are a bunch of morons if they were expecting that high level sales for FF 16 and Rebirth on PS5 alone.
i feel like this is something they've should've done a long time ago, KH on epic was already arguably eyebrow raising enough and then when it dropped on switch that's where i feel like alot of people really started to question their choices, crisis core remake on switch but not FF7R has never really sat right with me, crisis core from what i've heard is one of those hit or miss games, but it's just odd to have the remake on switch and not FF7R, people will probably say "just play the og FF7" and i have it's my fav game of all time now, but my point is there's another argument to be made here as well which is "they should've ported the og crisis core", but me rambling somewhat only proves how odd it is when it comes to square's recent choices
What are the chances SE gets acquired sooner than later? If they are pumping out games, turning a profit while having exclusives, and whoever has capital right now is drooling.
“We’re hemorrhaging money, what do we do? Fix what’s wrong with our titles? Ditch consumer unfriendly elements gamers don’t want, stuff like NFT’s??” *Devote time, effort and resources to port games to a platform where the userbase has been conditioned to not buy games and instead wait for a gamepass drop or else not play it at all.*
PS5 exclusives will make them go broke. Just make Dragon Quest Monsters, Octopath Traveler, Star Ocean: The Second Story R and HD 2D remasters instead.
What a lot of people seem to overlook is literally how long these AAA games take to create and make playable! These games are taking TENS of MILLIONS of dollars and many many years to make! But that’s what makes it hard as a consumer because we want the next best thing now!
I'm tired of people saying Xbox players don't buy games. Plenty of people bought Elden Ring and Hogwarts: Legacy. This notion that people don't buy games on Xbox has no scientific backing. People keep pointing to "sales charts" but ignore the fact that the only publicly available charts are physical only in the United Kingdom. Xbox is predominantly digital.

Thank you for making sense. At the time, Series X/S were new, there was still a lot of hype about the new consoles, and the economy was better. All these game companies are laser focused on the gaming industry, as they should be, but the slump in gaming sales is not exclusive to gaming, at all. All of retail is down. Car sales are down, motorcycle sales are down, high-end audio is down....all retail for luxury items is down because the economies in the world are suffering. For companies to try this and that to increase game sales right now, it's just not going to work; people simply do not have the expendable income that we had 5 years ago. I'm sure Nintendo is being very careful about the new console release. Nothing is selling right now and the problem isn't as much with gaming as it is a reflection of the state of the economies of the world. Everything is down.
The problem you have is that the amount of money pumped into a game is unsustainable, and now we are seeing the consequences. I also think it has something to do with the public waking up about how crap the DCL and microtransactions have been for years.
Yea it's almost like making a reimagined version of it also didn't help. It didnt have to be a ultra real experience with new combat system. Just a better more modern game all the OG fans just wanted a dedicated remake it didn't have to ultra realistic just more modern.

True these game companies need to start going back to basic. Stop making games look realistic and go to great gameplay and good story for games. And also stop these multiple players live game and come up with good single players games that 30 hrs and good

sony owns complete console exclusivity for the 3 games if you do not own a ps5 it will come to pc..
I can see it coming to other platforms at some point but it all depends on what licence they've got in place with Square Enix
I got xbox because I cant afford $70 titles not only that I dont feel safe buying used games from people with Xbox I pay $11 to play anything

Squenix has a huge quality problem and a ethics department. Before they go multiplatform they must resolve both issues.
Nah forget that just hurry up and give xbox some FF games 😊
No, first and foremost they should go multiplatform.
This is a W.
An independent publisher should not be locking their games to one platform. The flopping of Final fantasy on PS5 was deserved
"Flop" is a bit of hyperbole, they expected too much as is the Square-Enix way
Imagine releasing games on multiple consoles and PC... Maybe the timed exclusive deals arent worth it....
I wanted to say something similar . With tech advancing it won't be necessary to be tied to home consoles anymore if there are other ways to play aaa games outside there respective eco systems .
@@lionvrdieswatch stellar blade getting released on pc and then five years later to be released for other platforms
@therealjaystone2344 I think that's exactly what's going to happen . In a few years pc handhelds should be playing undocked at 60 fps. If not very soon already. And mini pcs are a thing for some people as well. No need for full rigs unless your a serious competitor or want all the bells and whistles.
@@lionvrdies that’s why I skipped buying the steam deck because the technology to save battery wasn’t there and steam deck 2 will improve it
@therealjaystone2344 yes I agree .
I'm happy SEGA, Capcom, and Nintendo are doing well though!
Sounds like Square Enix is finally coming home to Nintendo 😏.
Yeah, I agree. Looks like the N64 era is finally over.
I hope Taito will rise too for Nintendo switch 2 since is part of Square Enix..
Probably the smartest decision they've made in years
I would like to see more small titles from square; like some nice 10-15 hour games.
Xenogears remake when?
A remake, or just a port to modern consoles would be fine.
Agree. If I could get the FF7 remake now on steam deck I would because of the hype, not sure in 2 years in case it is launched on steam
Forspoken was an abomination
How much are they going to get from putting it on xbox for example because more platforms you develop for the the budget then increases.
3rd party companies doing exclusives are way too risky and not worth it really, especially if costs for development are going up
The more games come to PC, especially if they're Linux/Steam Deck friendly, the better.
Considering FF7 Rebirth sold terribly on PS5 I’m not surprised by this news

Im also in the same boat . Im not giving them my money for ff unless i see it come to pc .
Me too! I will buy these as soon as they are available, but I'm not going to buy new hardware to play these games at lower res and fps.
It's about dang time. The sooner Rebirth & 16 come to PC the sooner I can play them. I've loved the franchise ever since the first game on the NES.
My God the mods!!
So happy SE is doing this, they can’t keep ignoring all that money on the table 🤷🏾♂️
About freaking time Square, about freaking time.
How many Ls did they have to take before they came to this? The world may never know.
Well if sony did not pay them enough for the exclusive then surely that is squares issue for agreeing a deal
Good, the ff 7 remake trilogy was too big to be stuck on _one_ console
They say this every five years.
And they are still here.
These announcements are probably just negotiating tactics to get a bigger check from Sony.
Until they aren’t
Games going mult plat and indie companies are probably the only thing preventing an all out crash of the industry.
Kinda similar to Atlus porting their games to everything. I hope the Square Enix game studios figure it out.
Ultimately it’s software sales that keep you afloat, and if you’re restricting yourself to just one platform then that platform better be helping out with the expenses that come along with the growing costs of game development. This is precisely why console exclusivies will mostly be a thing of the past in the future.
All games needs to be released on as many platforms as possible anymore, it’ll be better for the devs
making ff16 ps5 exclusive was a massive mistake
Sega and capcom were going through the same thing now look at them they are both killing it square needs to start putting things on switch/switch 2 xbox series x and pc now becuase its clearly not working just on ps5 i just hope they actually find their brain and start porting stuff soon so they can make money and people who dont own a ps5 can finally play these games.
They were following a 25 year-plus business plan and just put everything only on Playstation. That used to work, it's not working anymore.
I’m a PS5 guy but even I see they need to go multiplatform. Why limit your fan base when you can reach them on multiple consoles & PC
Both final fantasy 16 & FF7 should be enjoyed by many, not just limited to the PS5
Good for them. Now more people can enjoy their games.
They didn't give us the gamers we want
@stevenwasik3369 but we pay for the games
Where I live there has NEVER been any PS5s in stock in the stores since it came out. They still just have signs up that say if you want a PS5 you need to make an order online, they don't have the ability to stock them for in person purchases lol.
Just buy it online FFS
How is that possible . They have them stocked at best buy now lol. It's not rare anymore.😊

Why is 2024 such a fucking dark year in gaming
This whole generation a joke bro I saw it since the beginning
My whole life was sony . I had my buddy for a few years telling me to go the pc route . I finally did. And i see that since the pc handhelds came out you dont really need a full rig anymore to play aaa games. So i dont know the number of ppl going the pc route but i dont think the exclusive route is the way to go in the future . I remember consoles use to be the only way to play aaa and modern titles . Now there are alternative ways outside the console eco systems to do that . Of course if you have some extra cash to break away from the home console.
The average budget of a 16bit 2D game in 1992 was $200,000
Games now are costing up to $300 Million
Something has to change soon or there will be another crash.
@@captaindestruction9332 like I said, outside of Nintendo Directs, I never heard of OT 1 or 2, Live a Live or Triangle Strategy.

Maybe the rumor of a running FFRemake port for Switch were true and is one of the launchgames?
i feel like this is something they've should've done a long time ago, KH on epic was already arguably eyebrow raising enough and then when it dropped on switch that's where i feel like alot of people really started to question their choices, crisis core remake on switch but not FF7R has never really sat right with me, crisis core from what i've heard is one of those hit or miss games, but it's just odd to have the remake on switch and not FF7R, people will probably say "just play the og FF7" and i have it's my fav game of all time now, but my point is there's another argument to be made here as well which is "they should've ported the og crisis core", but me rambling somewhat only proves how odd it is when it comes to square's recent choices
This the way they should go
FF VII Rebirth on Xbox? Oh yeah, it's all coming together 😎🤓
Not Xbox.. it might skip that system..
Yeah they are looking to make money not lose it. It cost money to port

What are the chances SE gets acquired sooner than later? If they are pumping out games, turning a profit while having exclusives, and whoever has capital right now is drooling.
“We’re hemorrhaging money, what do we do? Fix what’s wrong with our titles? Ditch consumer unfriendly elements gamers don’t want, stuff like NFT’s??”

So no one’s going to bring up that part 3 of the FF7 remake project will likely be a PlayStation exclusive?
Xbox and to some degree Sony are having their wiiU era
PS5 exclusives will make them go broke. Just make Dragon Quest Monsters, Octopath Traveler, Star Ocean: The Second Story R and HD 2D remasters instead.
I don’t think us PS5 owners are going to be annoyed. Means Square can continue making good games and more people enjoy them. No one looses here.
@stevenwasik3369 alright mate you get my point.

Nothing gives me hope like a corporate deck labeled: Ensured "Fun."
The age of exclusives is over. Games cost way too much money to develop nowadays. The budgets are getting insane.
I don't want a spralling multi decade, multi part twitch action final fantasy. I just wanted a freaking turn based remaster!
