- 46233 Duchess Of Sutherland on her old stamping ground of Beattock, filmed on 2 dates - 6 October 2012, and 19 March 2016. Both runs are seen on the more famous, and arduous, northbound climb, before we catch up with her at Carstairs. The final series of shots shows her returning south in 2012, through the Upper Clyde Valley and leaving Lockerbie at dusk. The later tour had the distinction of being operated by DB-Schenker, but featuring WCRC stock.
Imagine if Staniers' proposed 4-6-4 'Super Duchess' had ever got built......
Excellent video,many thanks for posting.
Many thanks and you're welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
Nice to see something on UA-cam that's done properly - fabulous locations, fabulous loco and fabulous production. Thank you! A++++
5.23, lovely bit of driving. 385 on the drawbar rising 400 tons symmetry, pure symmetry
superbe vidéo. un grand merci d'un passionné de France.
vous êtes les bienvenus, et merci pour votre aimable commentaire qui est très apprécié.
Excellent video.
A thoroughly enjoyable compilation, thanks David, with some superb locations and turning very variable lighting into atmospheric video. I particularly enjoyed the rather quick sequence at around 04:20, even though the exhaust was more audible than visually noticeable! Kind regards, Bob.
Thank you very much Bob. Yes she was fairly shifting there, I was just a little annoyed that my memory failed to remind me of the signal at that location which blocks the view somewhat - but time was tight so I stuck with it. Glad I did in hindsight :)
Takes me back to my trainspotting days in the 1960s , excellent video
Thanks very much, nice to hear it brings back happy memories.
Lovely vid, thanks for sharing.
Many thanks Bob, much appreciated.
Brilliant footage; thanks for posting.
Great video of a beautiful locomotive.
I didn't notice slipping on the hill climbs, but the poor start at 4:50 onwards would have been a big problem in regular service. Looked as if the sanding gear was in use, but it still could not get away for a while.
Fantastic shot of the duchess mate great news this locomotive is back in steam and back to its former old livery in red and renumbered to 6233
Scott Whiley that's awesome news no more BR livery!!
It certainly is Scott - just need to get her back on Beattock now!
yeah very awesome indeed mate
okay mate
That first shot is outstanding and skilful. Having said that please permit this little criticism. Do not go into 'wide angle' when train passes. It simply makes engine look smaller. Instead keep 1:1 ratio as it passes. This is such a common mistake amongst amateurs who make train videos.
Keep it zoomed in throughout at the same focal length you mean? If so, that would make for a dreadful video in my opinion.
Simply the best! Wonderful...
2:40 *Magnificent - What do Trees need to grow - CO2 - what do they emit Oxygen - Simples !*
Cracking video. Enjoyed that very much.
Thank you very much - glad it went down well!
Super sounds from the big Lizzie!!!
That's right Nigel - nothing quite like that 4-cylinder blast!
I had no idea they ran from Lockerbie 😲..... I only live a few miles away from there!
They occasionally run through Lockerbie - sometimes stopping there for water but unfortunately it's not used as a boarding point. Instead, these trains usually originate from Carlisle, Edinburgh or Glasgow, or evern further afield. You can look for upcoming runs on this website, although I don't think there's anything else scheduled for this year sadly: www.uksteam.info/tours/trs18.htm
I remember her roaring through Blisworth at 80 plus with 16 on.I shall never forget that, the station shook like an earthquake !!!
Excellent
Thanks very much Peter.
Loved it!
