Wonderful. A fitting celebration of a man who spent his life making the world a HAPPIER and more beautiful place. Shame there aren't a few more like him.
Steve, a fitting tribute to a special man. Spoke to him at Kirkby Stephen last wk end (11/08/18) He was there to photograph 45690, I got the chance to say thanks for all the enjoyment he's provided over the years, his only comment ,He'd had equally as much fun doing it. Thanks again
Fantastic footage of several locos that Gordon Hodgson drove, and some brilliant locations. The double headed black 5s in the snow on the S&C I think could be the trip I had on 44871 with Gordon on the regulator in January 2013 , a memorable trip. Thanks Steve for showing us your superb film, regards Stuart.
A superb and highly appropriate tribute, thanks Steve. Riveting footage from start to finish, with a perfect, very poignant, still at the end. Kind regards, Bob.
A superb compilation Steve, show casing the talent that is Gordon Hodgson...amazing talent and he certainly stands out for his driving skills....He's be sadly missed...Bob
Very, very enjoyable Steve and a fitting reminder of Gordon's skills at the regulator of so many different locomotives - he really could make them fly...... Cheers, Alan
Thanks Douglas , I’ve actually done a longer version for his pleasure as some time ago a mate had Gordon staring on his dvd so kindly he gave me his address. Will send it on ASAP for his pleasure as the one I uploaded was the short version 👍
Great collection of shots Steven, thank you for all your hard work shooting and editing. Sounds are magnificent (I have twin stereo speakers with Bass Box amp)
Thanks Al , yes indeed as the 5 suffered a major problem on the fireman’s side after Tebay but with no loop to stop in he had to nurse the 5 up Shap into the quarry loop .
Yes very, it may be hard to climb this ramp with the train. It's so intersting my husband. these video are so beautiful to see and it's like a dream and memories .
A lot of these shots....look at the amount of unburnt carbons going up the stack. Do the firemen know how to fire this class of locomotive? In the days of the steam railway they would be in big trouble with their drivers! White smoke ok, but black....big trouble.
Both my father and grandfather worked for the railroad in Minnesota during the steam era. I love all of it.
Well the one starting the show he was out there in the hammer lain hammering down 👍👍
What an awesome sound & sight to see. Thanks very much for posting.
By this is great. Thank you.
That was a beautiful thing to watch. Thank you!
Great video 👍

He had a good day out that day (I was with him). We unfortunately missed 60009 at Ais Gill by a few seconds though.
Thanks Paul , glad Gordon is out and about still watching the steam that he loved so much . Steve
WOW, a cracking tribute to Gordon, Steve, and always in the right location to catch a master at work, what more can I say Brilliant.
Thanks Nige , always loved it when Gordon was in the seat as it was hellfire most times .
There's another two words that strike a chord - Steve Thompson! That was brilliant, Steve, and a wonderful compliment to a great man.
Thanks Alan , met him a few times and he is a real Gent . Steve
Correct - he has a sense of humour as well!!
Yes he does!
Fitting tribute to a great railwayman. Superb stuff Steve.
Thanks Austin , he knew his stuff and he is a true Gent .
Nice
Outstanding!
Thanks Geoff , thought Gordon would like a video showing some of his fine days in the drivers seat.
You can practically smell the coal burning and feel the heat as they thunder past. Super compilation. Well done.
Thanks Nicholas , thought it only fitting to show Gordon just what I was seeing from the lineside while he did his magic.

Met Gordon in the 60;s. We were in awe of him then.
Superb video, a fitting tribute to ‘Gordon’!
Thanks Ron , the day I was at Shap summit for 46115 was spine tingling as you could her the Scot for ages before it appeared !!
wonderful set of video clips, in all kinds of weather, different settings, and diverse locomotives ~ thank you for posting these
Thanks Richard, many a happy hour in all weathers waiting for the steam but once I knew Gordon was driving I knew it would be fireworks .
What an excellent compilation. Caught one or two good slips and even one just up the road from me at Dalton in Furness ( Ossick Road Bridge)
Thanks John , right place sometimes and I do like the angle from the bridge in Dalton .
Gordon was a master of his trade and all round good guy, hope he's enjoying his retirement. Thanks Steve for the memories.
He still wishes he was at the regulator. :)
Thanks Anthony , he was a master on the footplate and a true Gent .
Wonderful footage, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the very kind comment and it’s much appreciated. Steve
Wonderful information in your comments. Fantastic.
Thanks Allison , I try to be informative as possible . Steve
Fantastic montage, Stephen. I hope Gordon has a long, happy and well earned rest.
So do I. But he wishes he was still driving.

Thanks Simon , much appreciated as ever . Steve
That Black 5 at 4:10 sounded TERRIBLE!!!! Great video though... that's a man who knows how to handle a loco!!! :D
Thanks Al , yes indeed as the 5 suffered a major problem on the fireman’s side after Tebay but with no loop to stop in he had to nurse the 5 up Shap into the quarry loop .
Great .♥️ageless
Great videos, very clear and excellent sound quality. Great work from the footplate, how many firemen did they need 2, 3? :)
Great set of clips Tommo! And hardly a diesel in sight.
Thanks for the kind comment and yes nearly diesel free !
Top man, top vid
speed luar biasa.. kereta buatan Inggris mantul..di kelas nya
Hugely enjoyable, and I've very glad you included the poorly 45231 in the compilation. I wonder what Gordon does with his time now?
Thanks for the kind comment and Gordon goes out with his Grandson to see the steam tours in and around Carlisle. Steve
What was the nature of the mechanical failure of 45231 exactly? It sounded like it was only working on 1 cylinder.
Is that a 3 cylinder locomotive? I have never heard a rhythm from the stack like that before
Most of the locos are three cylinder machines yes . Thanks for the kind comment. Steve
The person who made the dislike needs hunting down.
Did anyone notice the young blonde girl with the pony tail on the footplate of 45960 ?
Anyone know who she is ?
Yes and the lady in question is called Joanne Crompton and fired on Leander 👍
Regard de FRANCE ce 18 08 18
Thanks Martine , pleased you liked the action .
Yes very, it may be hard to climb this ramp with the train. It's so intersting my husband. these video are so beautiful to see and it's like a dream and memories .
Fabulous, so much to like e.g. double header in the snow, Scotsman slipping in heavy rain etc etc
Martine - if you have a link to some of those fabulous Chapelon locomotives that would be much appreciated.
A lot of these shots....look at the amount of unburnt carbons going up the stack. Do the firemen know how to fire this class of locomotive? In the days of the steam railway they would be in big trouble with their drivers! White smoke ok, but black....big trouble.
My thoughts too.
Polish coal maybe the reason for the excess smoke.
I wish they would abolish èlectrics so not needed the stupid cañtenary spoils all the shots yuk for electrics
And tin cans.
