Many thanks David, much appreciated. The days without diesels on the back were very special, hopefully we will see more of that in the future, but so far only 1 this year on Shap.
Thank you very much indeed David - very much appreciated. Black and white isn't to everyone's taste so it's encouraging to receive your comments. Best wishes, David.
Watching this from far away Australia we were not sure if it was black & white or just a bleak Uk winter! No, seriously, this is fab, Amazing how glorious B&W can look . Thanks
Thank you very much Noel, greatly appreciated! That 46233 run was on a Friday evening and I was the only one there (other than the track workers!). A joy to hear and see her thumping over the top.
Another great compilation David. Monochrome is so effective. Great touch with the coloured rainbow - then the squirrel and name board was just showing off LOL. Take care - Chris
Thank you for including the animals, the stone bridges, streams etc; although a steam fan I love the countryside and the way the railway goes gently through it - as opposed to the Mordor Motorway
Thanks very much Paul. I'm glad you enjoyed those shots also - for me, it's roughly a 50:50 love of the outdoors and steam, so I know where you're coming from. You might like this video also if you've not seen it: ua-cam.com/video/2ExHlKA5lj4/v-deo.html
Slick and very sweet, most enjoyable. Jubs, black fives and the occasional Scot were my meat at the Harpenden viaduct in the 50's and 60's, great to hear them like this again. Yes, the black and white serves well. Be nice to see a 4f, 8f and 9f on the main line again.
Thanks very much. You had a superb diet of LMS steam! I'd love to see a 9F on Shap but sadly I don't think it will ever happen now with the flangeless driving wheel issue.
Linesider Video : Yes, the 9f with a seemingly endless line of coal wagons, I always wondered where the journey end siding was that could contain such a length of train. My biggest "rush" was a Scot piloted by a very dirty Midland compound because we just did not see compounds except at the model railway club. Happy days throwing ballast at the telegraph wires to hear the "music". Keep up the good work.
I migliori auguri, David.
A4s may well have been the most elegant British steam engines but the non-streamlined Princess Coronations (aka Duchesses) were definately the Hunkiest.
Very well done, David. What more can I add to what has already been written? Several points, perhaps: a pleasure to see all of that steam achievement without a diesel at the back; superb interludes of countryside/nature; great interest from your choice of locations; how did you do the selective colour parts? Best regards, Bob K.
Thanks very much again Bob - greatly appreciated. I used photoshop to create a mask around the areas I wanted to keep as colour - so a bit of toing and froing between the editing software and PS to get it right, and a bit fiddly but glad I went for it. Thanks again, David.
I have a question. Are these tourist attraction trains, everyday usage, or what is the main purpose of these older model trains in the UK? I love watching them, but want to know how they are used.
They are essentially tourist trains, which are run on a one-off or infrequent basis on the national network. The steam loco's featured in this production were all withdrawn from active service in the 1960s but thanks to preservationists, societies and private individuals, live on.
Hi Nathan - I like Black and White photography, it's got a tone and feel all of its own which I felt suited the subject, location and perhaps provided the most effective way of showing things more as they were in the real days of steam. All of the original colour footage is used in DVDs etc - which have my own self-imposed production rules and so I sometimes use UA-cam for more creative ideas like this. Many thanks, David.
Brilliant footage of steam locomotives on Shap the way steam trains ran in BR days, and without a diesel on the back pushing them up the incline.
Many thanks David, much appreciated. The days without diesels on the back were very special, hopefully we will see more of that in the future, but so far only 1 this year on Shap.
What a great video. Makes it being in black and white with that little touch of colour. Happy memories of times past. Pure class

Amazing how glorious B&W can look . Thanks
Thank you very much - there are many black and white days over here!
Lovely shot of the horse surveying his empire!!
Thanks, always nice to include the animals and weather too, from the iron horse to an actual horse ;)
This is just "art". Love it - thank you.
Siglaviking Kearns Many thanks, much appreciated and glad you enjoyed it so much 👍🏻
Stunning filming, stunning landscape, and of course magnificent locomotives !
I think black and white filming is the future !!
Amazing how well they take shap without a banker , fantastic sound of steam working hard and the black and white !!!!
Thanks very much Dave, pleased you enjoyed it and much appreciated. Some fantastic performances over the years. Cheers, David.
Very nostalgic. The use of monochrome shows the loco's at their best in my opinion, just like the days gone by. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much - that's the effect I was after, and you are most welcome.
Something about B & W just enhances film of locomotives, thanks for posting 👍
Many thanks Paul, much appreciated.
Super compilation David and the monochrome works so well. Hope that Lizzie is soon back in action as she is sorely missed
Thank you very much Austin - I quite agree, 6201 is a fine machine and a perfect match for the northern fells.
I really enjoyed watching this brilliant production. Nothing more to add, as so much has already been said. Many thanks for posting.
Fantastic video David - very, very well done.
That Duchess was shifting!

Mr Staniers magnificent pacifics doing what they do best taking Shap in their stride
Hi very good camera work cracking video well done great stock of lms locomotives Philip
Brilliant footage David. Just wanted to say very well done, Geraint
Nice selection of shots. The colour only applied to the rainbow and red squirrel was a masterstroke!
Thank you very much - greatly appreciated.
Another great compilation David. Monochrome is so effective. Great touch with the coloured rainbow - then the squirrel and name board was just showing off LOL. Take care - Chris
Thank you very much Chris - greatly appreciated. A bit of a faff cutting out the colour bits but I'm glad I went for it. Thanks again, David.
A brilliant effort by all the locos, hauling 10 or 11 coach trains up Shap, unassisted, but particular credit must go to the Black 5!
Absolutely - although she did haul 12 over Shap that summer too - quite incredible!
Linesider Video I'm pleased to hear that! The new 'Regime' on the Railways seems to be working in favour of us 'died in the wool' Steam Enthusiasts!
Thank you for including the animals, the stone bridges, streams etc; although a steam fan I love the countryside and the way the railway goes gently through it - as opposed to the Mordor Motorway

Magical compilation David looks superb in black and white with touches of colour. Kind regards C&A
Many thanks C&A - I just had to keep the squirrel in red!

Brilliant footage of 6201 aka 46201 just wish it was painted in BR Green and renumbered so. I do have a picture on Perth MPD in green.
Many thanks David, much appreciated. That must be a treasured photo you have.
Fantastic sounds 😊😊😊😊
Thank you very much, always a good place for some serious hard work and interesting sound.

Wonderful video, great shots did like the limited use of the colour on the signs.
Thanks very much - it was a bit of a faff, but I enjoyed the effects :)
Brilliant, just shows you do not need colour to get stunning video.
Thank you very much - B&W can certainly take footage into another area.
That was really nice to watch, beautiful, you do have a way with a camera.
Thanks very much Peter - greatly appreciated.

This and all of your videos I've seen are beautiful and superior. You should be making movies.
Thank you very much - greatly appreciated. We produce a small number of Blu-Ray and DVDs and always enjoy making (small scale!) movies :)
Great video and great running by crews. Too bad you can't erase all the wires.
