Bowie has always been ahead of the times. He has been an inspiration to many, many later artists; this song is great!!!!!! Well, aren`t all his songs great. . .
"From "Scary Monsters" (epochal album of great depth, on worrying topics), the "prophetic" Bowie reinterprets the disillusionment about fashion and robotization, which proceed hand in hand. Always with a smile, of course." What a brilliant description! I had to log in to post that lol!
Ohhh isn't he just terrific!! He is adorable and sweet and so talented. Who could forget that voice?!!! No one has a voice like his. Thanks so much Fiorella! When I drive around during the day taking care of business, his songs come to mind. His music stays with me. I just love it. They help me through the day.
This is without a doubt one of my most favorite songs of all time - just love it and always have. I am so sad about David Bowie's passing, at the same time grateful for all of the great music and videos so we can still watch him.

Bowie si sabía de orquestación y de teoría , lo escucho y vaya, que moderno y adelantado
@GregorDotUS I thank you very much for this feedback so enthusiastic: I fully agree that in this Paris-Show it had emerged a special energy, a high point of harmony among the Band, Bowie, the public, such to get to us, even today, with a freshness that transcends time. I think also that these events are never by chance...
@redsails2008 Thanks a lot for your feedback, it's mutual. "Scary monsters" throng the world through models, widespread in the cities (left and right, here interpreted as a command-squad, is incisive and funny) are mitigated in the metaphor of Bowie colourful by irony, while maintaining a tension towards danger of fa-fa-fa-fashion. Fashion in wider sense, the globalization of flattening thought and of perception.
Fiorella, my dear friend, you just made my dreams come true, I've always wanted to see this performance, the Olympia concert is my favorite of all the videos on youtube and I've always wished that I had this on my playlist. Now I do, thank you so much.
Sorry for one defect of 2.5 seconds of silence towards the end of the video. I had a choice: a) not to publish this version at the Olympia (now non-existent on YT, I repeat, this version); b) sharing it as is. For me, being a Bowie's pretty and biting performance ... "beep beep", I have chosen.
Utterly original and years ahead of its time when released. Standout track of that album for me. Ashes to Ashes was immense but this was just so new. Fripps input and guitar work was crucial.
@11jelkica She is Gail Ann Dorsey, a great American musician, widely acclaimed worldwide and considered one of the premier bass guitarists and vocalists within the alternative Rock scene. She was a member of various Bowie's Bands since1995: unforgettable (among others) the interpretations of "Under Pressure" and "O Superman," duetted with David. I adore her... Thank you.
The band is so good it hurts. The guitar work is pushing the envelope, skidding off the edges is fascinating ways. This band mixes the high production values of being very tight, and very balanced while retaining an incredibly fresh feel. I shake my head. This whole period from 2000-2002 (BBC Portland Theater, UK to this Paris show) is really amazing.
It's a fabulous live performance. I've liked this song ever since it was released!!! Brings back memories every time I listen to it. Thanks for uploading, you've put a huge smile on my face
@Scoobydoonut Dearest, how glad, thanks! Oh yes, grandious concert this one at the Olympia, I share: a Bowie more and more artistically mature, increasingly able to communicate in an intelligent and sober language, in a quality of singing difficult to reach to this superior level. And with a very tight-knit Band, homogeneous, univocal, of Artists.
@naumnn How true ! His music it can also singing, whistling cheerfully, letting it joyful echo in the background of our daily; unforgettable songs that give us charge, keeping us company. By how much and what kind of music today is this possible?... Thanks, always appreciated your comment, so direct, frank, agreeable.
AGREE 100% I was just watching "The Genius of David Bowie" on BBC 4 and this was played ( Jonathan Ross ver) I just had to see what was available on Utube and this is pretty much the same ver.... outstanding guitar work ( by 3 players ) Probably shows how good Fripp was in those days
I couldn't agree more...too bad he won't tour anymore ....I think this is his best backing band EVER!!!! With Earl Slick and Gerry Leonard...The drummer kicks my ass too...
Just a year or so after this he suffered a heart attack and it seems that was huge blow to his health. I am glad, given his history, that we could enjoy him for longer than just 30 years. But these drugs, especially smoking, took a toll on him. He was the best artist out there to me. Only Ferry was someone who eclipsed him with lyrics for a while. But after 1975 or so Ferry and Roxy, to my mind went too much mainstream and started to repeat themselves. Bowie almost never did that. Wish he never smoked though, he probably would have been here with us....And he probably would have been in a good shape well after 2004. Miss him and guys like him a lot...
Bowie obviously earned a professorship in planetary physics by '85. Was more of a social scientist though. Might've been a famous musician if he'd played his cards right which he did. Fashion is his my fave song.
TY for posting these Brilliant videos, I just wanna be in the goon squad all my life, Ive felt the gun shots over my head and the shame was on the other side! You, you can be me and i`ll drink all the time, cause we`re lovers, that is a fact, Yes we`re lovers, and that is that! ive got my mother in a spin, she does`nt know if im a boy or a girl, Hot Tramp I love you so! Beep Beep
Ziggy was my favorite spider from Mars and now we're on our own. Planet Earth is lonely without Bowie but gravity being what it is I'm still here. Doo-whop, bleep bleep bleep that's fashion. Turn to the left, turn to the right. Damn goon squad doesn't need to come into our town they've already owned the streets of Los Angeles since 1840 or something. Yeah I'm a Silverlake hipster and we care about our town such as it is. What a mess but most other towns are even worse.
It's a good, solid performance which is elevated by GAD's fine vocals. I think it's pretty much impossible though to match both Fripp and Alomar. Three guitarists couldn't do it and one of them is the legendary Earl Slick.
Hahaha, I can only share your irony. I often wonder on what basis tastes change over time. After all, the tastes are thought patterns... Maybe are they manipulated from the outside? And how cannot we recognize the many talents of an artist? A too shallow hasty impression? Can maybe the personal criteria be flattened in the effort to globalize, standardize the tastes of many, for the interests of a few? Thank you very much... anyway.
sexy, unique, visionary, honest, charismatic, gorgeous, intelligent, clever.....so missed but what a life!xxx
When he yells "Left! Right!" It just does things to me.
when someone says the word "cool" I instantly think David Bowie
Amen

There are 3 artists deaths I have never gotten over. Prince, Bowie and Tom Petty.
beautifully said! ❤
You could play this song 50 years from now and it will still kick ass!
Agree
Bowie has always been ahead of the times. He has been an inspiration to many, many later artists; this song is great!!!!!! Well, aren`t all his songs great. . .
David: rrrrright
Me: *melts into the gutter*
Katie Louise OMG SAME 😩😩😩
He is and will still be THE VOICE , he is a Musical Genius for more than 30 Years now !
Quest 'uomo ha davvero la musica nel sangue....quando canta si illumina...grande grande Bowie
"We are the goon squad and we are coming to town (beep, beep)" Right. Seeing that now. Thanks. (Who knew that Bowie was that prescient?)

Ziggy. The original 'cutting edge' of everything.💖
This is without a doubt one of my most favorite songs of all time - just love it and always have. I am so sad about David Bowie's passing, at the same time grateful for all of the great music and videos so we can still watch him.

Loved this song. I can't believe you've left us, David. I loved you live, and I will still celebrate our birthday. RIP... : (
+reefprayer resin I think the most powerful word in this comment is "our"
Yes, I guess it is, especially for me. - I've celebrated my birthday with him (and Elvis) for nearly 40 years. And I still can....
My favourite Bowie song I think, fuck there were so many of them. RIP Thin White Duke.

One of my favs from the incomparable David Bowie. Heard this as a kid in 80...was gobsmacked. Just Awesome.
