Margaret Manning's Story - Answering Your Questions - Part 1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 лип 2024
- Who is Margaret Manning? I'm glad you asked! :) A few weeks ago, at the request of so may women in our community, I posted a video asking women in our Sixty and Me community to ask me any questions they had about my life. I was overwhelmed by the love and compassion that emerged and the fabulous questions.
In this video, I start with the story of my childhood which of course was very transformative. I found this process so interesting and the only reason I am answering them in detail in a video format is that i trust and love all of you and wanted to share something more personal. I know so many of you have had similar challenges and experiences - i think this video and the ones that follow will demonstrate what connects. Love, compassion, trust and a passion for life.
Thank you so much for all your love,
Margaret

Hi Margaret. I am a 56 year old male from the United States and I have been watching your channel for years now. I just wanted to let you know that I get a lot from your videos because there aren’t many people in my age bracket talking about issues that appeal to me. I loved Hearing your life story. Thank you so much for sharing and for all that you do for us older people. I know that your channel is geared towards women, and I think that’s great, I just wanted you to know that there are at least a handful of us guys out there😊
I love the clarity and vulnerability with which you presented your world. What a strong woman you were….and are!
Unbelievably wonderful
Margaret! This helped ME
alot! Your 80 year old fan
who has watched you for years! Going thru some tough times now aging, health, less money and your
videos always help me to
say, “I can get thru this”!
I’m also 80 hoping I can get some encouragement from these videos.
Gotta' love you Carol O' Brien. You are a true Matriarch and indeed well respected and cherished. Following Mag Manning for all these years puts you in the Magna Cum Lada of wizened women. How proud we hold you in our hearts and Devine your remarkable youthful, kindred heart. You are an effortlessly unforgettable woman, Carol!!
Are you children estranged and you are 80yo?
I sure hope not
Sending you all my love - stay strong ♥️🌺
I'm 65, and only qualify for a 3/4 pension in Canada as an immigrant, with a sporadic work history due to being a stay at home Mom, then divorced and a single parent, so I too am facing an uncertain financial future, in common with many other women in my situation. I've just discovered Margaret's videos and am finding them very helpful, not least because of a sense of connection with other, older women.
You shared beautifully. We are all beyond lucky that you are doing this. There is no way we can ever thank you enough. Honestly, through all these years, I feel like I knew you, but now so much more so. You truly are a part of thousands of people’s lives and now, this!! Be proud and feel really good about yourself. You rock!!!
So well said!
Thank you for sharing. I was born in 1946, and we moved a lot because my father worked for the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority). I thought everybody moved a lot. Also, I thought everyone ate dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon because that’s when we ate. My dad left for work early at 4:30, and when he got home he was ready for dinner. I was accustomed to new school and new friends. I continue to be a strong woman at 75. Looking forward to your next video. Don’t worry about anything that you say because we all have a story. It’s all history and we can’t change it. You are such a wonderful lady. Thank you again for sharing. 💜Jeanette Turner, USA
❤❤ we
I absolutely loved hearing this story about your life ! I understand how hard it is to share your most intimate details of your life. You have a fascinating life story that has shaped you into the wonderful woman you are today ! You have helped me thru the years so much and I thank you for sharing your history ! I am looking forward to the rest of your video series about YOU !!! 😘😘😘😘
Thank you, Miss Margaret, for being so courageous in telling us your story. 🥰
Although we've not met, I feel you are a dear friend. Your gentle, strong spirit infuses all your presentations. Thank you for sharing your life story. Emotions are high when we look back and I'm sure it took some grit to talk to us today.
Margaret, you’re so right that our childhoods affect our later lives in such big ways. Your talk brought back a lot of my own memories, some not happy ones, but they made me who I am. I just try to stay in gratitude for everything I’ve experienced. Thank you !
It was so touching to hear about your life Margret. It is so private and to talk about it on youtube and share it with the community to I find it courageous. It was very moving for me.
I am at a turning point as well in my life. I just feel I will cry.
Much love to you from Paris/Marseilles
And now we have even more to love about Margaret. ♥
❤
How courageous and strong you are! Your willingness to present with such vulnerability is very moving. 💕
Thank you for your beautiful story! I too was very poor and sickly as a child. There were 5 of us . Daddy worked 3 jobs! Mama ironed clothes and sewed for the neighbors! I love people too! They are mostly kind. I had the good Lord , a strong work ethic, anyway my family is mostly passed away now. I feel fortunate to have survived to 68 yrs old! I still love life and hope to live to be 100! I am grateful for every day! A gift!
Thank you for sharing. Yes we are both very fortunate x
Lucinda…I love your positivity! You inspire me. Congratulations on your strength and courage.
Margaret, over these years, your Sixty and Me videos and blog have significantly impacted my life with the thought-provoking topics, fun with such things as make-up ideas, and just a feeling of belonging to this community of women. I am sincerely grateful to you.
Now, your courage, grace, and generousity in sharing your life story not only speaks of your dedication to the mission of Sixty and Me, but has already encouraged me to reframe and understand parts of my own childhood. I'm looking forward to hearing and understanding how your life experiences created the woman who is making such an impact on so many lives.
Sixty and Me is surely a calling, Margaret. Bravo you!
Margaret, why was I tearing up as you were? Because, I felt your emotions, and really isn’t that what’s truly beautiful about being human. I look forward to the next chapter....
Thank you for sharing your life so vulnerably Margaret. My mother also passed away at 50 (cancer).
Margaret. Thank you for all that you do. You are an inspiration to all of us. Best wishes. Joan, Manchester.
You are so welcome
There's a book here! What a story. I grew up in the UK and had school friends who left for Australia. Your story covers the experiences of our generation. Very good of you to share this and shed light on where you and we came from. A brave thing to do. Thank you!
Thank you so much hat must have been very emotional for you. You’re brave and inspiring. Big hugs to you. xx
This is fascinating! Thank you, and what a gift to your descendants, this memoir.
This video resonated with my life too, as we had very similar experiences when young. Thank you for being so brave and open. I was born in Nov. 1951. My father was a WWII combat veteran who had been a prisoner of war of the Japanese. He had severe PTSD and he was never able to get rid of experiences and became an alcoholic. We moved every year too, so I understand what you went through. In 1970 I also wound up in Denver where my mother had moved. I went to college there for a year at Metro State, before I wound up moving back to Oregon. I also met some very memorable people in Denver, although I was there only a short time.
Margaret i love your channel i was born in 1951 and i remember how hard life was after the war. We had no fridge washing machine or TV. When we finally got a colour TV the dog knocked it off the sideboard and it was smashed to pieces. My Mum and i cried for a week as we couldn't afford another one. It was many years later we were able to buy another one. In those days people did not buy things on hire purchase.
The 60s and 70s were happy years for most people. If you didn't like your job you left and a day later you had another job and another untill you found one you liked.
Yes those were the good old days. 😀
Love you Margaret. I was born and raised in Michigan, still live here. I remember all of the events you mentioned. I love to hear about your life. We all have some interesting stories to share. I think sharing brings us closer together.
BIG HUG & Many thanks for you Margaret 🎉
Margaret - how brave of you, what a story and some of it is, clearly, tough to share. You are to be admired and I look forward to the forthcoming instalments - would you consider sharing a picture of yourself as a young person. I feel you have always been elegant and I would love to see that I’m right!!
My mom was a war bride. When I was 9 my mom, brother and I sailed on the Cunard Ascania from Montreal to Liverpool, 10 days each way, where we spent 3 months visiting my Nan and cousins in Sevenoaks, Kent. Poor dad stayed back to work! Those 3 months were one of the most memorable and sailing on the Ascania was so much fun - except for the 3 days of sea sickness!! Loved this video, Margaret, and looking forward to your next one.
Thank you so much for sharing your early years with us Margaret. The loss of your Mother at such a vulnerable age must have been devastating. I admire your strength and dignity Margaret you are such a lovely strong and inspiring woman. Wow! Thank you for sharing your life’s story, Margaret. I never would have guessed HS in Detroit, what a lovely surprise. I’m sorry for what you needed to endure, but like you, I appreciate the challenges for the lessons they’ve provided, & agree we each wouldn’t be who we are today without them. Thank you again for sharing your childhood with us. Hugs

Oh Margaret this is so nice of you to include us in your life experiences.......I cried with you when you mentioned your Mother's passing you were young been a fan for a very long time you I believe are the sweetest woman on u tube looking forward to hear about your life stories ❤️
Margaret..you are a very strong lady..thank you for sharing a little piece of your world, brought tears to my eyes..
You described yourself poor, but I grew up in an old farmhouse in upstate NY with my grandparents, funny, you spoke of not having a lot, our farm was a working farm, cows, pigs, chickens, all vegetables, fresh milk, nothing came out of a can, unless it was canned by grandma.
As a child, going to school, I also was very quiet, did not make a lot of friends. I came home one day from school after being teased, I lived in a farmhouse, I went to my grandmother, asked if we were poor, she told me, which I want to share with you, “grandma told me, we don’t have material things, but we are humble, we cook everything from scratch, but if someone came to grandpa, wanted to purchase eggs, milk, or chickens, they could not afford, he would shake hands, when Friday came, the person or persons were at our home paying grandpa for what they owed him., so grandma always said I word was as good as gold, always to be honest, pay as you go”, I still remember her words.
Margaret, our growing up is very similar, I did not have brothers/sisters, I was an only child. My mother had me, came home from the hospital, my grandmother, Aunt Mary raised me, I was born after the wars. My heart pours out to your father, who, I believe any young 18 year old going off to war, never comes back the same.
Thank you again for sharing a part of your history..you are an excellent speaker, very calming, easy to listen to.
Sending hugs 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thank you for sharing ❤️

How very kind of you to share your life with us! Growing up in the 50s, 60s, 70s was such an interesting time-the world changed so much and gave us so many opportunities…. Love your makeup and hair today! I’m looking forward to more of your fascinating stories😀
I believe we baby boomers have had the BEST time in history to have grown up - our music, the empowerment of women, the advent of technology. All of it were incredible to be a part of. Even my son has told me that we had the best music ever, LOL!😎✌🏽🇺🇸
Thank you for sharing. Although it might feel vulnerable at the start, what a wonderful legacy your story will be for your family, people you grew up with and 200,000+ ‘friends’ from around the world! We should all take a leaf from your book and do something similar.
I think it is so important to share our life experiences - it reminds us of our shared humanity! Thank you so much.
Hi Margaret, thank you for being vulnerable here. Your beginnings are unique, and I can see their effects today! You are so down to earth, so accessible. I can’t wait to hear more! ❤Sharon
Oh Margaret.....what a challenging youth.....I will look forward to the next chapter of your life. All your past has made you so strong and engaging.....
Thank you so much!
Hi Margaret, I've been a subscriber for a few years now and don't feel I have ever commented on your channel. I learned that we have the same birthday. (I was born in 1956). Thank you for sharing more about yourself and being vulnerable. Maybe you ought to consider writing a autobiography as you are so creative as well as an educator and world traveler. Perhaps a book on your travels too. I love your travel pics and the doors you take pictures of. They are so unique and colorful like us humans. I love your channel. Thank you too for always being upbeat, smiling and positive. Sending you love and hugs. 🤗❤🥰
You are wonderful ❤️!, very nice and interesting first chapter. Lots of love, Carola.

Hi Margaret, Thank you for telling us the beginning of your story. No one has a perfect life....we all go through experiences to make us the people we become. And because of that we gain a true connection with others. Your experiences have shaped your wonderful ability to help so many of us. Be proud of who you are. You are a welcoming friend here to me and thousands of other viewers. I am looking forward to the continuation of your story. Thank you! P.S. So wonderful! You are so right about childhood and how important it is!
Thank you for sharing. You're a lovely person. 🙂
Beautiful sharing. Thank you Margaret ❤
Thank you Margaret. I loved how you only saw the Hollyhocks in the garden, not the industry behind the house. That immediately shows me your whole attitude for your life. Your ability to notice the pleasant things in life no matter what else is going on around you. When you have nothing as a child, it really makes you notice the little gentle specialness of small things like a cute fan. I am looking forward to hearing the next installment.
Thank you Margaret. Interesting and inspiring 💖🌸
YaY! Excellent still photo Margaret!👍🏻
I LOVE your attitude….. “I had a wonderful opportunity to learn about life, people and myself.” I’ve never actually heard it put that way. Its purely positive!
Gosh Margaret you are so brave and you did so well with your life. Our lives are quite similar to this point! Also born in the UK lived in Canada and mostly Africa. Came back to the UK and feel like a foreigner here. Very interesting. 😀

Thank you for sharing your story.
Hi Margaret,
I'm currently living in metro Detroit, near where you grew up. Crazy small world.
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧 I have just found you! I am coming up to 60 on 13th September, so I thought what's this all about? 😁. I have enjoyed '5 things to let go of at 60' .....so true. Now I am listening to your story. I am subscribed. Hi all 👋 I am loving this age, let it go and enjoy right!!. X
Lovely of you to let us all into your private life.
You have become like a best friend to us. Bless you.
What a wonderful gift you are giving all of us, Margaret. I feel so much admiration for you in telling your story. I doubt if very many women can do the same - where does this fear of being judged come from? You bring a lovely feeling of understanding, and being understood and that is probably the key to a peaceful happiness. Thank you.
Wow! I’m fascinated! Thank you so much for sharing about your life. I could picture the details in my mind. Can’t wait for part 2! Motivating me to write down my story for my kids. Thanks again 😊
Thank you for sharing your story. Very tough job to go back in time and I know very emotional. Its good to share and remember. We all have our pasts to reckon with both happy and sad! You are a special and wonderful person! We are all much stronger than we know. Love and Light💜🕊️☮️
Thank you Margaret. This was great. Hugs from Victoria, BC, Canada. ❤️
To be honest, it's nobody's business. You share what you want to, nothing more. People are nosey. Love your videos. Thank you!!

I love your vulnerability. This will be a blessing in your life! 💛
Thank you, Margaret for sharing this. How courageous of you! Sending you a hug. Love you.
Thank you Margaret, I too moved 12 times in 12 years of school. Sometimes twice in 1 year. High school I was there 2.5 years so I made friends and even went to prom in a dress I made.
Well done! You had me eating out if the palm of your hand. In other words I was all ears. I am applauding here.
Thank you for being brave enough to share your life with us , your vulnerability is inspiring. Love you even more now.
Margaret, like you I also graduated from Hazel Park but in 1967. I came to HPHS in 10th grade after moving 10 times in my earlier years. I don't think we knew each other but feel that we have a lot in common. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Oh, and by the way you look beautiful!
Linda Ratliff was my maiden name.
Thanks for sharing Linda - you might want to join the Hazel Park Facebook Group - there are a lot of lovely people still sharing and talking with eachother! x
@@sixtyandme Hi Margaret. I am a member of the facebook group for your class and also I started the facebook group for

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I admire you so much, your kind and caring heart shows through in all your videos, and your sincerity is a wonderful thing that seems to be in short supply in today’s world. I look forward to hearing the rest of your story. Sending much love. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your personal journey. We discover we are more alike than different when we open up and share our story. It makes for feeling of shared community even though we are miles in distance.
Hello Margaret, thank you for courageously sharing your early life memories with us. It can be very emotional. We can see in age, more clearly now, how our early experiences formed us both in positive and negative ways. We are blessed if we are able to accept the good and the bad for what it was! 🌺
That was very emotional Margaret , your very brave . Those years after the war were hard the young men and women had to grow up quickly. Life was hard full stop food was hard to get clothing also . Thank you so much for baring your soul , don’t think I could have done it .
You’ve come a long way bless you 🥰
