Packrafting 5 Days - North Carolina Wilderness (Wilson Creek)

  • North Carolina was wild! We followed a crystal clear spring fed creek through the wilderness.
    I joined up with the @RiverKingsKayak crew and set out on an incredible kayak camping trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. We spent 5 days surviving, backpacking, bushwacking, and Class IV whitewater paddling one of the states most legendary streams, Wilson Creek. Alpacka Raft sent down several boats for us to use on this adventure and I must say, very surprised with their performance and durability. We went through some gnarly terrain loaded down with gear and they performed exceptionally. Highly recommend!
    I started a dry bag company, Remote Designs!

    Fantastic Video! The River Kings never looked so good! Thanks for coming along Gatewood. Your presence made the trip for us! I may be a touch biased, but this is your best video yet! Amazing. It is nice to get a truly different perspective on the trip. Squirrel may have a future as a outdoorsman model...

    To answer your question: Prefer hammock over a tent. Open sky is even nicer!!
    Nice video!! I just got a superlight packraft to extend trips. This one goes up to class 2. If i like it I will get another for whitewater as with training on the subject. This video definatly gets me pumped. I live in Norway where me and my wife regularly camp, sleeping either in hammock, tent, open sky. All year long summer and winter. She likes that but not speed, so I`d be alone on the rafting part :p. Wich probably limits the whitewater class i can handle safely.

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  3 роки тому

      Totally agree with you! Hammock when possible but the tent option is still solid for our trips to the desert. You’ll love the alpacka! It opens up the possibility for so much new terrain

      @@GatewoodBrown Well, on top of that mountain you wouldn't have had VLOS for very far LOL! And when you were bushwacking I am sure there weren't many holes in the canopy to pilot through and have VLOS but then again who are 'ya going to run into. You just wouldn't be able to see to pilot the bird back if you lost video connection. Plus you guys were beating yourselves up just trying to make it to the next camp before dark all the time.

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  4 роки тому

      Exactly like you said they’re more stable but harder to navigate. It’ll allow a paddler to do bigger water than what they could do in a hard shell, but a better paddler in a hard shell will be more capable if that makes sense. For reference, that was my first time doing class 3/4 by myself. They make self bailing models so if you do flip, people will just climb back in and keep paddling like usual
