How Coca-Cola stole Christmas - the greatest marketing ever? It was the 1920’s and Coca-Cola had a big problem. People mostly thought of their product as a refreshing drink in summer, but sales normally dropped substantially in the winter when it got colder. And this makes sense - who gets in from the snow, feeling freezing cold, and immediately thinks: I want a cold glass of Coke. So Coca-Cola desperately needed a way to improve sales in winter, but just running more ads wasn’t going to be enough to change people’s perceptions of the product - they needed something that would create a deeper long-lasting connection in consumers' minds between Coke and winter. We'll answer questions like: Did coke create Santa? Did Coca-cola change Santa to red and white? And how did Coca-Cola create one of the most powerful brand associations in marketing history, heling Coca-Cola become the billion dollar empire it is today.

Merry Christmas man! And have a happy new year (and make sure to get some rest you have been working hard )

Lovely logo, Budapest's subway system has the same! :)
Hey we should not say Merry Christmas !!! - We should say Happy Holidays - because we might hurt feelings of Muslims who dont celebrate Christmas...............Do Muslims do same for there own festival of Eid???? Do they say Happy Holidays for Eid....................No................But we should change ours for them..................Where the World is going to????
I might recycle 6year old videos too :) Great idea. The editing is great!
Even near Christmas itself, Magnates Media pumps out quality UA-cam content.
Very true
They make the videos before Christmas and release them around Christmas because then the add revenue is the highest-rated
In Sweden we have a drink called "Julmust" (Jul = Christmas) that's only sold on Christmas when all other drinks plummet in sales and Julmust roars! It's only ever really sold on Easter again as "Påskmust" (Påsk = Easter) at which time most people will already have grown tired of it and just make fun of how it's LITERALLY just Julmust rebranded.
Is rounded of that drink rich ?
@@crazypato3752 what?
@@thatpandaz6094 is the founder* rich ?
@@crazypato3752apparently yes. It appeared in something like 1910, and the original creators have passed, but the company still exists and seems to be very successful. Coca-Cola even tried to make their own version.
Dude how many editors have you got? To make this masterpiece it would take forever for a single person to edit.
This is one of my favorite channels. Thanks so much for delivering amazing insights learning what other companies have done to have more or less success.
Magnates coming with the December goodies. Non stop quality content. Can't wait for the new year 👌
I’ve really enjoyed this channel over the last few months and now I have a day job that provides a fair bit of downtime between tasks so I can enjoy more of them.
Sounds like a good job.
Spend that downtime making more money or educating yourself so you can make more money in the future. Keep it up!
This one hit home for me as I dislike Christmas because of this reason. It spearheaded the fall of Christmas for me. Thanks bud. Genuinely love your content.
I was really excited while doing this work . Thank you everyone for showering your love
Wdym while doing this work?
This is crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a coke Christmas ad as I live in the uk and never watched that much live tv growing up. And yet I still have an association with coke and Christmas. I get that warm fuzzy feeling whenever I drink coke 😂 terrifying and fascinating
You dont remember the "all the things are coming... all the things are coming ads?" I remember them pretty clearly though I grew up in the UK and ireland. My teacher's son actually worked in the bottling factory in Ireland so we used to get overflow xmas christmas coke stuff in school (cups, bags etc). We actually went on a school trip to the Factory even though they didnt do school tours, the guy hosting us was like "sorry kids I usually do this talk for executives"(!)
@@hucklebucklin no way! That’s insane. No I missed it but maybe it’s just gone in subconsciously and aided my Coca Cola addiction 😅
@@hucklebucklin It's actually 'Holidays Are Coming, holidays are coming' the subliminal advertising obviously didn't work that well for you haha
I think of Rudolph and wonder what coke he snorted.
You've never seen the polar bear commercials??
Keep up the good work. Happy Holidays.
This video, like the polar express, is something I will watch every year to get into the Christmas mood. Fantastic video!
8:24
The author says here "It's hard to imagine the holidays without coca-cola ads"
Which I find very interesting. Because I have zero association with coke & christmas. Why? I don't watch advertisements. This video was viewed with an Adblocker. I don't watch commercial television. If you're a concerned parent reading this. Just get rid of the ads. My children can't even describe the latest toys. Why? Don't watch ads.
Happy holidays to you magnates!
Christmas before coca-cola: Christmas
Christmas after coca-cola; Christmas®
Merry Christmas everyone.
This video is a true master piece.
MagnatesMedia is the best channel on UA-cam.
Merry Christmas!
Funny thing about coca cola, they tried to buy up the rights and recipy to julmust( a swedish christmas soda) because in the winter coke's sales drop with 70 procent here in sweden. They wanted to kill our traditional drink so we drank chitty cola instead. But all companies that makes julmust refused . I drink the swedish cuba cola instead, boycotting cokes products
My grandma is from Scotland and it's one of the few places in the world where coke is not the main soft drink because of irn bru made by a uk company it must really piss coke off
Love love love it! Keep them vids coming ❤
Merry Christmas. Thank you for this nice gift of this video.
Coca cola tried to dominate the choice of Christmas drink here in Sweden..However they had to settle for 3rd place. Because We Swedes drink Glögg and Julmust far more then Coca cola during Christmas.
Of which the Dominated Christmas Must is Apotek Christmas Must, which can be seen on all fridges and shelves for soft drinks this year.
Julmust is a form of Cola drink with a higher content of carbonic acid.
Nice job, you released this on our Christmas eve. We celebrate on the eve of 24th rather than the 25th here in Sweden. Entire country is at a halt, more or less, but Magnates serves us with a nice dessert. Keep it up!
Happy holidays to you my friend!!
Your channel is my discovery of the year!! Keep up the amazing work!!

@@user-re9oe7sg3y People who are not celebrating Christmas can also wish Merry Christmas to people who celebrate right??? Why they need to say Happy Holidays??? This is not some Summer vacation at school or a Holiday trip. Its a festival for Christians.
As always that was a very interesting presentation, learnt quite a bit 👍
Circa 3:38 it states that Coca Cola always used the version of Santa in Red & White, but shows a Santa on the side of the truck in Green & White 🤔
Perfect timing for this incredible story
I hardly see an ad for Coke or Pepsi on the internet
Not in Sweden. Coca Cola tried replacing the traditional Swedish Christmas drink that we call ''julmust". But it failed.
Good job Sweden!!!❤❤❤❤💚💚💚💚
Your editor is super solid keep it up 🎉🎉
You are a legend, that's for the great content. Enjoy your time with your family 😄

Anytime i hear coca cola i know it gonna be something evil 😂😂
Haha
Me too. I'm surprised people still drink it.
UA-camrs have conditioned us to associate coca cola with evil.😂🤣😂

@@maaki3389 I'm in my mid 30's. a
And I don't think people should be drinking that stuff.
Kind of helps that the logo for Coca-Cola is two of the three Christmas colors. Pepsi really would have had a hard time pulling it off with the color blue in their logo. 😄
Blue = Ice! 😂
Merry Christmas Magnetas 🎅
Love this channel
Coke is the only way Santa can deliver everywhere in one night
i wasn’t allowed to drink soda until i was like 12, and by then i didn’t like it. it’s crazy how people feel like that over a drink.
The modern brand that has most successfully co-opted Christmas is Old Navy. Every year they put out a series of high-production-value musical ads.
Fun Fact. Australia is the only country in the world where drinking coke on Christmas actually makes since, not context required.
Am loving your content 😍
Great Video!
I hate how the thumbnail makes this video look like it’s going to be a sinister tale, when really it’s just a mediocre video about coke. And the narrator’s voice is the type of voice that could make anything sound joyous.
All in all a happy video!
Your so right my mum always says to me she knows it’s Xmas when the cola coke advert with Santa and the lorry.
Okay, until this year (2022), I had never heard of "Coke Christmas Trucks". I was born in the 1970s.
The cocacola hologram advertisement shown in bladerunner 2049 is so astonishing. It's kinda prediction that even in apocalyptic world, they will be doing great advertisement. That kind of worthy they are.
Never heard of this at all and never drunk a coke in winter maybe it's because in new Zealand it's summer when it's winter
I don't believe it's Christmas until I see the "Holidays are coming" advert on TV. That's when I get the presents.
We can not be this close to the end of 2022, this year went wayyy too fast
best vid I've see in this month
Hey magnatesmedia hi i love your vid i hope you have a good year happy new year and merry Christmas
I just watched your original coke video! Let’s gooo
It’s intriguing how much the different images of Santa say about our culture throughout time
i'm from singapore & coca cola is super popular here! every household has it during holidays such as chinese new year.
*That* Coke advert with the truck and “the holidays are coming” track is embedded into my brain but I’ll still always be a Pepsi person.
Same
Do it .... Drink the Coke lol
Happy holidays.
This was a really cool Xmas gift hahaha
The reason why Santa can deliver gifts in one night is because of the cocaine in his Coca Cola, that’s why he’s seen drinking it so much.
I grew up in a European country that isn't really that big on christmas sure it's Jesus birthday but we have Saint Nicholas in early December and when I grew up no one believed in Santa Claus, yet I still remember as a child a coca cola christmas van stopping in my street the week before Christmas with a guy dressed as Santa Claus handing out cokes (still have that coke bottle nearly 30 years later)
I don't know if the American Christmas tradition is now becoming a thing where I'm from as I haven't lived there for quite a while, but it's crazy that even in a country that isn't big on Christmas, coke is this associated with it.
Fun fact : Jesus wasn't born on the 25th of December.
@@peet4921 no shit, Christianity totally don't piggyback off of pagan traditions or anything
@@Amelia-vk4jt ''sure it's Jesus birthday''
Niet mijn woorden.
@@Amelia-vk4jt As long as you don't think Christmas has anything to do with Christianity, it's fine.
Yooo the Santa influence is insaaane
Merry Chrismas for everyone !
I associate Coca-Cola with sponsoring the 1936 Berlin Olympics, 2022 Beijing Olympics, and 2022 Qatar world cup. I haven't purchased a single can in 2 years.
Merry Christmas everyone and everybody

How ironic that Santa wants sherry or some other booze (and a carrot for Rudolph). Never left him a coke. Guess he doesn’t like the stuff but is happy to be a sell out. Can’t blame him, all those elves and reindeer can’t be cheap as well as the raw materials for all the toys, so guess he needs all the cash he can get.
I've been loving these videos, and if you want some famous business I would suggest would be Eli Lilly and Guaraná
the funny thing about the ads is that... "why would anyone drink ice cold beverage on a winter?"
and for some reason the ads just works? I mean wtf? everyone in winter was like wanted to rink hot coffee or chocolate. haha
Here in sweden we have Julmust, a drink that heavily outdose coke in december. It also tastes better.
I can understand why Santa would want a Coca-Cola during his Christmas Eve deliveries. It's more exciting than milk and cookies!
Love Christmas ads with pola bears
As an Australian, brands i'd think of during Christmas are:
Peter's/Bula/streets
Mars
Bell's ice (for our eskys)
Wahu (water toys/boards etc.)
Golden Gaytime or Bubbleo Bill for me :):)
Do you edit with Adobe?

I haven’t associated Coca Cola with Christmas time since Sprite Cranberry memes have been burned into my consciousness
I wouldn't say the brand I associated the most with Christmas is coke, because the Christmas season is so defined by commercialism, there are just so many different different brands that advertise for Christmas that sell more or less the same products, that I couldn't really pinpoint one brand that defines the season.
If anything, I'd state sprite cranberry before coke
Coca cola have tryed to enter the chrismas in Sweden for long time but we got our own Chrismas drink called Julmust (Chrismas must ) , and coca cola cant break throw that
Interesting. I didn't even realize I should associate Coca Cola with Christmas. (We seldom had soda in the house growing up, and when we did, it was ginger ale, mostly there putatively to attend to any tummy upsets. (I was born in the 1950's.) I did prefer Coke over Pepsi when I had them - because Coke is less sweet than Pepsi, which is why so many more people really do prefer Pepsi's taste.
We set out milk and cookies for Santa, never soda. (I do think one year Dad set out some booze for him, though.)
I don't remember all the ads for Coke and Santa, yes I saw a few, but not enough to spell an association to me.
You shouldn't associate Coke with Christmas. They literally have nothing to do with each other. And despite Coke's best efforts to associate the two, never once have I received nor do I know anyone who has received a bottle or can of Coke as a Christmas gift.
Oops I misspelled Woke-a-¢ola 😎
Its xmas when you see the coke truck ads
I literally told my wife about this last night and then you make a video about it 😂
Some of their Christmas ads , were quite good .
Didn't tempt me to buy the stuff .
Have you done one on Twitter?
Please can you do a video of Chi Ltd makers of capri-sonne chivita juice etc
I worked in their factory in Lagos Nigeria until 2019 when coca-cola bought the company
I had no clue there was a coke Santa ad
And here is me, watching this video in a CocaCola Christmass t-shirt. Damn ...
U have the best vids
Awesome
I don't drink soda pop anymore but when I did I drank Pepsi and I actually preferred it and with out any blind testing lol Coca cola commercials are cute though! And don't forget about the polar bears!
Not really
It’s not that big in asia
You know it’s xmas not when coke ads starts, but when mariah carey starts singing
If it's summer during Christmas you may as well run both ads
Love how every single Christmas since 2016 people make videos about what coca cola did to brand themselves in Christmas
And ofc every years they say the exact same thing because.. well the story took place decades ago, it hasn't changed lol
I would buy an Editing Course from you...
In my country..there’s a myth that suggests Coca Cola is an alien organization 😂 mostly among kids
They will never conquer Sweden during X-mas :D
"In Sweden, julmust outsells Coca-Cola during the Christmas season; in fact, the consumption of Coca-Cola drops by as much as 50% over the holiday.[4] This was quoted as one of the main reasons that The Coca-Cola Company broke away from their contract with the local brewer Pripps and started Coca-Cola Drycker Sverige AB instead.[1] Coca-Cola Drycker Sverige AB produced its own julmust, albeit very slyly with The Coca-Cola Company's name occupying only a small space on the label. Their julmust was never advertised until 2004, when Coca-Cola started marketing their julmust under the brand "Bjäre julmust", but they bought the syrup from Roberts AB.[5] By 2007, the "Bjäre julmust" was only sold at McDonald's restaurants and it had completely disappeared from Coca-Colas range of products by Christmas 2008,[6] only to return for Christmas 2011."
It is quite a contrast compared to this, that in Finland we are happy about the success of Haddon Sundblom's work. His father was from Finland, but his mother was from Sweden, so I imagined that Sundblom would be remembered in some way in Sweden as well.
Lovely logo, Budapest's subway system has the same! :)
That moment, when you drink Pepsi instead of Coca-Cola on Christmas
Yeah
Father Christmas. Not flipping Santa
That explains why they don't sell very well here, we don't celebrate xmas.
Coke and Christmass is just an awesome mix. I watched this while drinking coke zero.
Zero makes you fat
@@chrise842 zero has 0 calories. Now explain to me how it makes me "fat"? That's right, it doesn't.
Hahaha I know what you were doing 🤣
Not in the Scandinavian countries. We drink Julmust. Coke is not a Christmasdrink here.
Thanks.
