- With more than 1.9 billion drinks served every day Coca-Cola is one of the world’s largest beverage companies. From its humble beginnings selling a single product at a drugstore for 5 cents a glass, the company now has a roster of 200 brands that includes Coke, Fanta, and Sprite.
But with health and wellness trends on the rise, the company has been forced to pivot. So after 135-years in business, can the soft drink giant stay on top? And what will the secular decline of sugar-sweetened beverages in the U.S. mean for the future of Coca-Cola?

When I was a kid, Coke was in glass and you could take the bottel back for a nominal refund, that was a good system! And I might be biased, but it tastes better in glass!
It tastes way better, in my country we still do it and there's no point of comparison between a glass and a plastic bottle. And yes, that's a great system that should return

It's not a bias, when both were available I had 7:UP in plastic bottle and one in glass bottle. The plastic ones taste like sugar water with a hint of flavor. In glass I realized that there's a taste of lime in 7:UP it was flavorful. It's like the plastic leaches the flavor out of the liquid.

Coke has a history of saying they're starting to be environmentally responsible, then letting everyone forget, and years later making similar claims about starting to be responsible. I'm surprised this video didn't mention that.

They lost smartphone market share to Android and Windows PC’s still outnumber Mac’s. Also the company almost went bust in the 90’s because of Microsoft, IBM and Apple’s own stupidity.

Why
It’s more environmentally friendly too use glass over plastic. In the old days of coke you use too grab a glass bottle from the machine, drink it, and then put it on a rack with a bunch of other empty bottles of Coca Cola. These would then be taken back too a distribution center and decontaminated before being reused. Sometimes older methods are more environmentally friendly then the modern ones are. Same with the milk man, leave the empty bottles on the doorstep, milk man comes by takes the old bottles back too be decontaminated, reused and leaves u fresh milk at the doorstep. That old way would definitely reduce the amount of plastics getting into the trash which then in turn gets into the environment.
it's not actually as it requires more energy to transport glass bottles. more energy means, more petrol and diesel consumption, and thus higher co2 emission.

I live in Hocaba, Yucatan, Mexico. Today I was at the tienda (small store). It took me some time to find a bottle of water. All sweet drinks. This is common in Yucatan, Mexico.
I definitely can relate to that clip where the guy opens the fridge and mostly sweet drinks.

An ice cold coca-cola, every now and then, and preferably real sugar Coca-Cola in the green bottle is not going to hurt you. Mostly what's messing people up is overindulgence and high fructose corn syrup.

I haven’t consumed any of these beverages for years and I’m very proud. I am so conditioned to it that even if I crave it and it’s in front me, my body won’t let me reach to it. I rarely crave it though.

Just bought a coke from a vending machine that clearly hasn’t been serviced since the pandemic started. The liquid was not as dark and it tasted like a mildly flat flavourless drink.

I switched to Pepsi as they sell Sodastream-syrup and the tap water here is fine and very drinkable. Seems to be the best environmental solution aside from well.. plainly drinking water of course ;) (edit: spelling)

@@specialopsdave I think the rollout over countries is slow. Afaik (googling) the countries where you can pick the syrup up (basically at your local supermarket or the like) are Sweden, Norway, France, Germany and Australia. I hope they feel it's going well so far. Don't want it to disappear.

i got a can of topo chico from my local supermarket took it home, drank it did not think it was bad but well expensive. so i said this is easy to make just a very very small amount of fruit syrup a small amount of vodka and a lot of sparkling water or soda water thats it .made to your own taste

Bring back the 5.5 oz old school bottle! Not the crappy plastic ones now but the classic green glass bottle. They got rid of them by time I was 10 in 1974. They were perfect size for kids but also mix.

My dad was a major Coke drinker and sugar junkie all his life... which ended from cancer at 67. Some people think diet soda is healthier but what they don't know is that the artificial sweetener used is a neurotoxin. No word of a lie you're better off consuming alcohol than any soft drink.. straight up poison that should be illegal.

So I noticed when visiting Iran that they don't have very many American products. When the Islamic Republic took over after the 1979 revolution, they kicked out all American and Western companies and universities, but somehow you can find Coca Cola and Fanta in every store over there still.

This life-long Coke drinker STOPPED purchasing Coke products about 5 weeks ago, and to my surprise, other beverages were just as satisfying. Actually even MORE satisfying, because those beverage makes appreciate me, in spite of my color.
I am a dentist, and everyday I see young children with severe tooth decay in Fiji Islands. At this point, I am so numb to this destruction, it's a loosing battle. They also got lot of influence among politicians and athletic programs are run by them. Sad truth is, this society doesn't even realize, that this is actually poison. NCDs are among world highest here. Also, they are aggressively marketing their products while polluting the environment with their plastic garbage in this beautiful island nation.😭

in my field of work which is the metal cutting industry there is actually a substance which taste concerningly like coca cola.
Its a mixed oily cooktail that is mixed with water, and its used too cool the tool cuz of the trumendous heath that is created, while cutting metal
Now this stuff isnt made to be tasted, its quite hazardous if one are exposed to it enough, with constant working and no ventilation this stuff will eventually start to steam and by than enter potentially the mouth of a person close by.
I was exposed to this stuff while doing maintances right before lunch, went there was lunch i got a cola and tried it, tasted concerningly alike.
I wonder these ppl that drink cola(god forbid) do they not know better?

Coke is by far the world's most popular soft drink and has been that way for many years although competition is making marketing more difficult for CEOs to manage especially in our age where many different brands exist.
