💬 Is Amazon too big? Do you think Amazon are taking over the world? Comment below!
When Jeff Bezos founded Amazon, he originally considered naming it Relentless, and even registered the domain name Relentless.com which is still active to this day. However, when friends told him the name sounded a bit sinister, he changed it.
Fast forward to present day, and Bezos is the richest man in modern history, and has gone from being one man in an office to running a trillion dollar global empire. And whilst the story of Bezos and Amazon is undeniably inspiring, the real question, is where does this story end? Because now more than ever, the name Relentless seems like the perfect fit.
Amazon started from humble beginnings in 1994 selling books on the internet, and they even used to ring a bell in the office every time they got a sale. But over the next couple of decades, Amazon expanded into almost every product category there is, earning it the nickname The Everything Store, with well over 350 million different products available to buy.
And when you think of Amazon this is probably what first comes to mind, Amazon.com the online e-commerce giant. However, the shopping component of Amazon is just a tiny fraction of what it does… And sure, it’s normal for businesses to buy out competitors and enter new markets, BUT, let’s just take a step back to see exactly how large Bezos’ Amazon empire actually is, and what that could mean for our future.
For example, Amazon has entered the streaming service business, buying the rights to not only many thousands of popular movies, tv shows, and live events, but also creating their own originals. In fact, Amazon Studios became the first streaming service to receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination for one of its original movies. And, with billions more dollars reportedly due to be spent next year, it seems production will keep expanding.
And they aren’t just stopping at video streaming, they’re big players in the music streaming space too, taking on the likes of Spotify and Apple Music. Which fits very nicely with the fact that Amazon is also one of the industry leaders in the smart speaker market. And then you start to realise the way that so many of their products & services interlink. If you become a member of Amazon Prime you become part of the Amazon ecosystem - you buy a Fire stick to watch your Prime video movies, which you control with your Amazon Alexa, bought from Amazon.com.
This video explores many of Amazon's projects, subsidiaries & businesses. It even covers some of the risks to consumers because of the Amazon FBA programme, where third-party individual sellers sell their items via Amazon.com. But ultimately we ask: Is amazon too big? Is Amazon taking over the world? Is Jeff Bezos a supervillain? (Ok, those last 2 are maybe a little extreme, but there is definitely cause for concern with some people who would say Amazon is becoming too powerful).
When discussing the problems of Amazon and whether Amazon is too big, a short clip from "Amazon Empire: The Rise and Reign of Jeff Bezos (full film) | FRONTLINE" was used ( • Amazon Empire: The Ris... ).
This Amazon documentary raises a lot of questions like:
Is amazon a monopoly?
Is amazon too big?
Is amazon safe to buy from?
Is amazon's growth a good thing?
Why do people hate jeff bezos?
Why is Jeff Bezos so rich?
What is Jeff Bezos investing in?
Why is Amazon so big?
Will Amazon be broken up?
What is Amazon's Business strategy?
Why are Amazon so successful?

Now seems like a fitting time to post this video since Amazon are streaming every single premier league football match this week... just another example of the wide variety of industries Amazon is venturing into. This video couldn't possibly cover all of them, but hopefully it's an interesting look into some of what Bezos is doing. He's definitely someone who will split opinion though, so what do you think? Is he simply a great businessman we should all be inspired by, or should we be concerned?
He also entered in cricket matches.

Actually kinda scary how much power is given to people like him. I’m happy for him, but the thought of one man or company running an entire economy is scary.
Power hasn’t been given to him, he created it
He earned it, it wasn’t given. But I agree with the other half of ur cmmt
It has happened before and it use to be way worse. For example JP Morgan controlled and even saved America from devestating deppresions with the sheer amount of money and power at his disposal. He even bailed out the gov when they were almost all out of gold.

Amazon isn’t killing malls, the entirely of e-commerce is. Going to a mall or physical store is almost becoming like buying cds in 2022 when you can get a better service through streaming.
What will happen when Amazon blocks you from buying anything by claiming you violated their terms and conditions, in the way other power companies censor our comments and block us from posting? Will we be ok with being excluded from the market, when they deny us opportunity and economic survival?
There’s a reason why this comment didn’t get any likes. This is the truth

This is part of the reason I didn't buy in at all. I stopped using Amazon about 4 years ago and haven't looked back.
I literally save your documentaries to not burn through them all at once, you're extremely underrated.
One thing I can't stand about Amazon is that more than a couple of times, I've gotten complete crap knock off of products. There's absolutely no oversight.
TBF this is going to happen on any selling platform (even shops)
The UK had a problem with counterfeit tobacco (golden Virginia) China was making such high quality copy from a packaging point of view, even the holograms ect that major supermarkets where selling it and they had no idea, it came to light when someone complained about the tobacco and the batch numbers did not add up, the knock of stuff was everywhere.
If you use, say PayPal ect you are always covered anyway
That’s Amazon’s fault??
Sorry, when you know what the genuine product costs and you opt to buy one that’s advertised at half the cost - anyone with half a brain at that point would know there’s something wrong here….

The world has taken a dynamic turn from a salary expectancy Era to a more capitalist approach. Everyone wants to be financially independent or successful. It depends on an individual to make a key decision for his or herself.
It is quite certain that everyone wants to monopolize a business or be actively involved in one or invest hugely in a business that will stand the test of time with guaranteed profit
The biggest issue Amazon needs to address isn't space flight or home services.... no, it's secure delivery of its parcels. A mail order company that just leaves valuables on one's porch is failing in its core mission.
Once I had a new camera delivered into the bin on the street as a "safe place"-alternative in London (food bin btw, not recycling bin, so you can imagine the smell...). I wonder what they would have done if it was bin collection day before I get home to take it out... I left a lengthy review, did not even get a response or anything. So there's that about customer service and delivery security. Nice try, Amazon.
@@creativia6639 wouldn't that be more of an issue with the delivery service, like the Amazon individual delivery man or women who is the one who was responsible for delivering the package?
Wel if you want the delivery associates to follow every order and literally go into peoples homes to drop off the package, you need to pay them way more for the hazards of the home owners pets and the inevitability of getting shot by someone who forgot that they ordered a package and chose the rear door delivery option that makes the driver have to go beyond the owners property even at 9-10pm at night. That shit is dangerous and scary and not worth 16.50/ hour especially when you got 200 stops a day.
Then just get it in your hand
thats kinda on you. if you don't want it sitting outside, be there to receive it when its delivered. they could set up some type of alert saying they're a few stops away (amazon actually has something like that but fedex/ups/usps doesnt as far as i know) so youre not sitting around for hours but other than that, what can they actually do? you can't expect them to go into peoples houses, especially when they are not home, thats a recipe for disaster. they are also not going to deliver at a specific time that you choose, unless its a service like building a desk or mounting a tv, especially when they have so many packages to deliver and limited people. do you want it to be stored somewhere where you have to drive to get it? if so, its not really even home delivery anymore not to mention the package may not fit in the car or you may not even be able to load it or move it if you don't have proper equipment. i don't like packages being left out front but even i know that there is nothing that they can really do about it. too many liabilities and unfeasible things to worry about.
You say Bezos' biggest competition is the government, but I'm not so sure. In the US it is legal to essentially buy a politician by funding their political campaign. And think about all the state governments who bent over backward to give him tax breaks and publicly fund infrastructure specifically for him if he just put his second headquarters in their state. He's not competing against the government, the government is competing for him.😕😕😕
This was refreshingly interesting, there are so many annoyingly uninformative videos on these topics, this was good, clean cut, no stupid robotic voice over.

There's another issue with Amazon's conflict of interest in being both a retailer and a platform - by outpricing and strangling the competition by providing the "same thing, but cheaper," the quality suffers. Amazon might be able to copy and outprice a product, and continually get new, fresh ideas for products... but it doesn't mean they can just replicate them to the same standard and quality. Mostly because they often haven't got a clue what they are actually aiming to do accomplish with said "same but cheaper" product. By the time consumers might realize that "wait, I'd rather higher quality from that original thing I know, even with higher price-tag," it's usually too late.
And as for corporate responsibility - it's interesting how we willfully ignore many, many things for the sake of (sometimes forced) convenience. :)
I remember people talking about Jeff Bezos' keen interest in middle school boys in Bloomington, IN during the 1990s. The reason for his baldness is relatively apparent. Justin, housemate of Levi Thomas and Dana in Bloomington, IN in 2004 was stated as his nephew. Justin also hung around with Jason Graham and Kaylan Randolph at the time. Many of the bios on the web are fabrications and more closely resemble marketing. Apparently the world is satisfied with Bezos, Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, Chad Hurley and other good luck clowns.
I think you misunderstood. They lower the prices but sell the same product and quality, which is why they end up making a loss and knowing it. They can afford to sell at a loss, competitors can’t.
As a retailer, you said this very well. Very much aling the lines I have said myself.
It is odd to me when someone says Amazon should take all the responibility when listing all products.
But apperatntly, when some product is listed low, there is definitly something going on with that.
I bought one "low" price product I want on Amazon and feel happy about the purchase.
But, it is not as good as I expected, so I want to return it. When I talk to the customer service, the requested a restock fee as it have pass the 30 day return peroid. Then I notice this "low" price is not the real one, and the title is play the trick to at like it is the actual product. Then I made the claim and the customer service give me the full refund.
TBH, I will not expect other place will provide the same customer service experience.
Its because they send returns to the dump

the issue with amazon is simple economics. When there are no more businesses left that can compete, Amazon can charge whatever they desire, and they do. Regardless of the item, the moment the original seller went broke due to Amazon selling a cheaper knock off, they increased the price to their hearts content. Not only that, but it's very easy to hide just how many of their products take advantage of child and cheap labor, even if their customer service isn't done via india. Amazon getting any form of tax deduction, when their prime source of taxation is based in China, is just bonkers, but that's democratic governance
*laughs* It's not democratic governance. In either form since I'm not sure if you mean it in the terms of the Democrats passing laws that let this happen or Democracy governance.
Republicans pass just as many laws supporting major corporations at Democrats do. (And yes, they BOTH do it, anyone that thinks democrats are more for the people are fools)
As for Democracy, the US is a Republic.
The reality is that the US government (and I'm pretty sure ALL governments across the world) are actually ran by a very very very small portion of the human population. Bezos isn't even one of those people.
@@OgdenM actually, Bezos is one of those people :p and when I mentioned "that's democratic governance" I was specifically pointing out leniency on "american" companies outsourcing their entire product production to foreign countries and then selling it to US citizens while only having to pay the same taxes a start up company would have due to it being made by an "american based company"
Brilliant content, well done...TREMENDOUS! Thank you for sharing your gift with us. Cheers!
The growth and dominance of Amazon has proved the point that most people don't really think or care about the ethical, social or economic implications of who they purchase from, just so long as they get what they want quickly, easily, and at a great price. Personally, I have moved away from buying on Amazon this last few years in favor of buying from local (physical if possible) sellers, because I want there to still be actual shops and a local economy in 20 years time! Even if that means spending a little more, or having to travel out of my way a bit, I personally don't want to live in a world where Amazon ends up being the ONLY choice for the majority of our purchases, and I think more people could give that a little thought before habitually clicking that Buy Now button.
Also, amazon isn't always the best price....better to check around.
Amazon has been around for more then a decade & I’ve yet to sign up or buy anything from them 😂 Amazon will never sway me

@@shay4261 doin it right 👏💯
I used to have an account for the odd item that was hard to find elsewhere. Canceled it about 5 years ago during a particularly toxic experience with their customer support.
Now I'm the same, I just go straight to the company's site to look for the items I want, or go look for that item from a local brick and mortar retailer, since that supports my own local economy.
The stores you shop at likely get their supplies from Amazon. Their websites are probably ran by Amazon. I guarantee you've contributed to Amazon at some point even if you don't even realize it.

These Amazon delivery people really made dislike the brand. Apple will never compromise quality or consumer experience over sales.
As long as Amazon keeps its mission the focus of the business (rather than just offering low prices), I can see a BRIGHT future for them.
Offering low prices can help in the long term, since the competitors won't be having a chance of competiting against Amazon, and Amazon can increase the price later, as well as creating a strong barrier to enter in Online shopping for the competitors, Hence, it can be said that amazon is running an Monopoly .
