I'm not a woodworker, I am an aerospace engineer (mech) and when you detailed the direction of woodgrain - even I knew to expect this ending. A woodworker would have gone completely insane watching this.
As a primarily lumber builder I can confirm. I had a wooden cuckoo come out of my mouth and a little wind up monkey was banging cymbals in my eyes almost the whole time.
The fact he needed tools to make the axe to chop the wood explains why perpetual motion doesn't work, proving that we live in a society

Yup. As soon as he pointed out the grain direction, I knew it was gonna split. Same reason a mallet is made with the endgrain for the ends...keeps the whole piece stronger & from splitting.
Although, I thought it would just be the tip ofnthe axe that would break...not that the head would break in half.
