This song holds a special place in 90s kids hearts.

The lead singer is Kurt Cobain and he is an icon in the alternative/grudge era of music which was the most popular in the late 80's and into the 90's. Kurt struggled with drug addiction, depression, sudden success to fame, and personal matters (mainly having to do with his marriage). Kurt was married to fellow musician Courtney Love who was the lead singer of the band Hole. She also struggled with the same problems as Cobain and their relationship was toxic. They had a daughter together her name is Frances. I consider myself lucky and honored as I saw Nirvana in concert when I was in high school. This performance would be one of Kurt Cobain's last as he sadly unalived himself April 5, 1994 at the age of 27. There were many conspiracy theories in regards to how he died...was it at the hands of someone else. "Smells like Teen Spirit" was inspired by a girl's deodorant during that time conveniently named "Teen Spirit." Cobain's girlfriend at the time and her friend wrote on one of Kurt's walls "Kurt smells like Teen Spirit". This is turn made them question what having "Teen Spirit" meant. For the deodorant the company had to make it appealing enough for girls to want it and to feel as if they can't live without it. Having it would make them smell good and they would be popular. Clearly, you can't go wrong with this deodorant. Kurt Cobain co-wrote "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as a way to challenge young minds. "Kurt really despised the mainstream. That's what 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was all about: The mass mentality of conformity." I know that if you didn't grow up listening to this music it seems really foreign and in many ways doesn't sound like music at all. Kurt Cobain was brilliant at his craft although, it might be hard to see but, he accomplished and achieved so much and will always be admired and be looked at as an icon of alternative/grudge music.

So, in ‘91 I followed Nirvana & Alice in Chains on tour. This is the theme song of my Generation. Life changed after this, & grunge hit. This will bang forever 🙌🖤.
Also, the janitor was symbolic. Kurt had to work as the HS janitor in his former HS the year after he graduated.
    You’re nuts btw 🤣😂🤣… came out ‘91, I was 17, & this was a game changer.

I was 25 when this song came out and it started a new phase of music for me. I’m 57 now and still gravitate toward 90s grunge influence music. The loss of Kurt Cobain in his prime really hurt.

Nirvana changed the face of the music industry OVERNIGHT with this song! It went stratospheric and defined a new genre - 'grunge'. I adored them and like everyone else, I was devastated when singer/songwriter/lead guitarist, Kurt Cobain took his own life in 1994 at the peak of their fame.
Their whole MTV unplugged set was, and still is, legendary. Kurt died a few months later aged just 27yrs - 'The 27 Club'. Kurt was a gentle but troubled soul who hated fame……what a wonderful legacy he left us.....I wish he'd got to see his daughter grow up.
    R.I.P. Kurt Cobain 💔

Kirk Cobain once said he was messing around rhyming words with this song. Never had no idea it was gonna hit big. Lol I basically think people interpreted it as manic teens wanting to revolt etc blah blah. It's still a good song. Nobody can or ever has touched that talent.

I’m a 70 year old conservative woman who loves all kinds of music, but rock is my go to music. I remember when this hit. Nirvana literally changed music over night. Come As You Are is a fav. Their covers of The Man Who Sold The World, and Where Did You Sleep Last Night from the MTV Unplugged concert are wonderful.

As a subscriber, and have been for some time now, I'm going to suggest a song you dont hear talked about much, its a great song to get stoned to, and that is UB40 and "Red Red Wine"...
Also, may you could do a reaction to "Walk" by Pantera"...

Used to play Rockband with the family sometimes on family game night, they didn't really get the idea that eventually you're supposed to increase the difficulty beyond Easy mode. We'd always play this, Radiohead's Creep, Jet's Are You Gonna Be My Girl, The Rolling Stones' Gimmie Shelter, The Police's Next to You, Black Sabbath's Paranoid, Mountain's Mississippi Queen, The Clash's Should I Stay or Should I Go, Weezer's Say It Aint So, Bon Jovi Dead or Alive, The Killers When You Were Young, The Who Won't Get Fooled Again, and all sorts of others on my old 360. Great family bonding times every Saturday night, and ways to introduce my little sis and I to some quality music from the previous generation. The fact there are people in my and my sis's generations that haven't heard some of the classics from the 70's, 80's, and 90's outside of the super huge bands is a travesty. Nearly everyone has heard Michael Jackson and the like's biggest hits, not nearly as many have listened to The Jam's Town Called Malice or The Eton Rifles.

Let me tell you...this song came in like a hurricane and tore the hair bands apart...and Nirvana and ALICE IN CHAINS Man in the Box was rocking MTV at the time. And Andrew Wood had passed away and Eddie Vedder helped form Pearl Jam...GRUNGE WAS BORN..and I couldn't be happier...and Smells like TEEN SPIRIT ...TEEN SPIRIT is a deodorant. I was 100 percent a grunge girl..still am at 50..51 tomorrow 🎉😂

Unlike the Ramones these three Kats knew how to make real and very original music, cutting edge grunge back in the 90s. Jason Evermore from Nirvana went on to become a Navy Seal during the Global War on Terror. The music reflected the depression of living in the dark and moody PNW, very tribal. The lead singer Kurt Cobain committed suicide at the height of the bans success, could never enjoy their success.

The Ramones didn't make original and real music... You have no knowledge of music at all.
