Hello, my temp gauge is raising up but when I turn the AC on the gauge goes back to normal. I was thinking my heater core is clogged. I've replaced the thermostat and the water pump. Also, it's a small mist coming from the vents some how and it looks like it's a rainy day. Are these signs of a bad heater core?
Unless you have a fluid, getting drawn in from an underhood leak, the core is prob bad. But have seen hoses leak at core pipes do similar. And if turning the heater on is cooling car, pump is good, but radiator is restricted, or cooling fan, isn't functioning. As you are drawing off the engine heat, with the, ( leaking) heater core. In place of the radiator doing it. Thanks for watching
So you didn’t completely take the dash off in order to get to it then? Im having some real cold mornings lately 🥶🥶🥶🥶..how can check for sure my heater core is the issue? Is there something else it can be why im not getting heat that i can check first
Start it up, turn heat on max hot, and let it run for 5 mins, (@ 40`s F or lower), and I would feel both heater hoses, as they enter the firewall. If one is warm, and the other is cold, then the core could be stopped up. I would then check the bottom part of upper radiator hose near radiator inlet, and see if it is getting warm, (after only 5 mins of runtime after cold start) if it is, then the T-stat is letting hot water enter the radiator early, and removing the heat from the coolant. The radiator hoses should be cold, until the engine is almost to operating temp, otherwise, it cant get up to operating temp, in a cold ambient temp. If rad hoses are cold and both heater lines are same temp, then there is likely a control in the dash bad. thanks for watching
Lifesaver video Haney manual left me hanging thanks for the video
