LOL I have four 1st gen Expeditions (white 97, red 99, black 99, and a blue 00). All of them have the 5.4. I don't like the 4.6's as much. They just weren't powerful enough to do the towing I do. The only two things that you need to worry about on the 4.6, 5.4, and 6.8 of those years are HEAT and the sparkplugs. You have to be SUPER careful when changing them. No over torqueing them and spray some WD40 in the plug wells before removing them. If not, they have a tendency to blow out of the head due to only about 3-4 rows of threads. My white one has 3 outtie belly buttons on the hood from where they shot out and dented it from the inside. Granted, I was hauling WAY too much weight so the motor was working super hard but, I almost wish the head gaskets would have gone instead. It would have been cheaper. So, I bought all new updated heads (that's 8 heads) for all the Expo's. The heat issue is a big problem as well. The 97-02 versions of the mod-motors had a leaky coolant cross tube in the intake valley. They also under spec'd the radiators. I put a 180 degree t-stat and an all aluminum 3 row radiator in all of them. This gives the seals in the coolant a much longer lifespan. Granted, I'm in Vegas where it's ALWAYS over 100F (38C) in the summer and the asphalt is in the 150-170F (65-78C) temp ranges. You need max cooling here.
My red 99 (I call him Clifford), has 389k miles on the original motor with 1 trans rebuild. I've been waiting for the spark plug issue with him before I do the heads. He even has the original timing set on him! I did Honestly, the most things I've replaced on Clifford are the seats. I'm on my 3rd set of seats. LOL All the other Expo's have about 180k miles and I bought them used usually with 150k miles. I love these trucks.

Much more powerful with the p.i intake and heads , I did mine and it's a night and day difference.good power band all the way to 4.5krpm and ideals smooth but sounds a bit more ballsier at the tail pipe

Hahaha🤣. All of that just to end up being a stinking $2 control knob. That’s too funny🤣

I agree with you about the 4.6. People don’t realize how many 4.6s were abused in taxis and cop cars and kept going.

What a rip. Take us through all that just not to finish the job. I wouldn't hire you to do a job.😂

I bought my 1999 Ford Expedition from the original owners 2017 for a $1,000.00. It just turned 144,000.

OH man. This sounds like what happens to me all the time. Do (30) hours of work only to find out the solution was $5 and (10) seconds of time. Thanks for the video though. I need to drop the dash.

I have to install a vent and duct on the far passenger side, any tip anyone I really don't wanna pull the whole dash board at the junk yard to get a vent and then remove my dash to install it
