Andreas is definitely one of my guitar heroes and one of the players who really got me in to guitar playing/loving/worshiping! Really sad hearing about the end of Sepultura the other day...
We LOVE these types of videos. The in the workbench videos are my favorite. Love the stories and the chit chat, low key, just hanging out vibe. No one does it better bro!! Love riding along as your channel grows Rob. As always...HEAVY METAL OVER EVERYTHING!!
Blocking the bridge totally works to get your float very close. If your changing gauge and tuning it's still going to require some spring adjustments though at the end. Either way it's really just about balancing the spring tension one way or another.
I did the same with my new Quadra guitar today, but set it up for a different tuning which Andreas is known for: Bb standard. I used crazy thick GHS Zakk Wylde strings (70/52/36/18/14/11) and now I have that dark Bb growl very tight and massive. What a fantastic guitar, Floyd 1000 is very good and the 81 sounds incredible!
The performance videos are awesome too! Keep it bro, I always look forward to your videos. I'm still just hoping and patiently waiting for the day I get online and see that Chimaira is back 🤘🏼
I actually just got a jackson myself. I’m normally an Ibanez guy, I do own a EII horizon baritone 7, but I had a guy trade me one if my ibys for his jackson. And it’s a Japan made white soloist, I just upgraded a bunch on it, but I love it! Never thought I’d own a jackson lol
I gotta say, these videos are becoming part of my evening wind down routine. Just something to help me decompress, wind down and destress from the 9-5 grind. Love learning about guitar maintenance as well. thanks for the great content Rob as always. Keep doing your thing! 🎸
Those sharkfins are bad ass I wish all my Jackson's had shark fins but only 2 of them do. The mini ones are ok and my wildcard soloist has one sharkfin outline at the 12th fret which is kinda cool.
Thanks Jake! They're just "different". That's the best comparison I can make honestly. The Jacksons are well made and play great, like the ESP stuff, but I can tell they're just a little different in the way they feel and respond. Not in a good way or a bad way, but just in a way you'd expect I guess, with them being different brands. It's all great stuff for sure though!
@@RobArnoldWorld I totally understand what you mean! I'm sure that makes no sense to so eine who doesn't play guitar or is just getting into playing 🤣 but that makes perfect sense
Glad I found this video I grew up on all the greats of Heavy Metal and the many subgenres as you have. When I first saw the custome Quadra album cover guitar watch the solitary EMG 81 PICKUP. I knew it was gonna be a killer 🪓 I've notice in recent years it's been almost considered cool to dis EMG 81 AND 85 set or solitary EMG 81. I finally got my dream guitar mid last year. It's Schecter preloaded with EMG 81 and 85 pickups..absolutely love it. The shape and beauty of Stratocaster, tuneomatic/set bridge, satin finish. Some folks say hey thats cool because the ways its set up you vsn easily put other "better" active pickups in there. Nope, NEVER going play anything but the EMG 81 and 85 set. It makes me happy knowing that the musicians I grew up with are sticking with tried and true formula.
Hey Rob, love that guitar! I’d like to see a video that’s about your rig behind you. Like how you set up your rack, wiring, and how you incorporate it with your amp and cabs. I think that’d be cool. I’ve always just used pedals and never tried the racks.
Hi Rob I enjoy watching your setup videos. Do you ever file your nut slots wider to accommodate thicker string gauges on your non Floyd Rose equipped guitars?
Middle is under less tension being straight would be the reason. Typically better to go straight and add or remove springs as you drop tuning and increase gauge size. 2 springs will do the trick most of the time on light gauges and standard, Eb and drop D.
Yeah for sure dude. I didn’t mean to sound pretentious with my comment, was just kind of piggy backing off your comment after Rob said “interesting” to add a bit of clarity. You’re bang on bro. I just dropped my LTD ML to D standard with regular slinkies and I had to put this all into practical use during the setup. I had 2 springs in angled and standard tuning with slinky hybrid 9’s. Jumping to 3 springs with even placement made my setup about as seemless as you’d hope on a gauge and tuning change. Not a dramatic change albeit. But always cool to see how people go about the process. Love the floating bridges and I’ve got 7 of them so I definitely sympathize with the pains of the process and appreciate the cool ideas tricks and comments people share over the years.
I know what you mean about being able to sometimes just lift that middle spring out. But I guess I feel it must still have some effect on the tension when you dive the bar down towards the strings. Lately I've been experimenting with 3 springs in the V shape, vs. 4 springs all straight, just to see what kind of difference it makes on the overall "feel" of the bridge. I personally like when a trem is super spongy, and easy to wham in either direction. But so far my results remain inconclusive. @@RyRyTheBassGuy
Pro tip, when installing the cover screws turn anti-clockwise with a screwdriver until you feel it drop before turning clockwise. This aligns the thread with the one already in the wood which prevents cutting new threads and eventually stripping the hole.

Another nice tuning video Rob. Two things I'd like to ask and that Is did you check the batter life and does it really matter if you cut the ball of the end of the strings or can you just leave the ball on the end of the string and let it sit in the sable of the bridge.
Thanks Darren! I did not check the battery, as the guitar is new, and I figure it's good to go for awhile! I always cut the ball end off, but some guys leave them on and string it up backwards, so that the ball end is up at the headstock. To each their own!
