Best way to get good at grafting is to practice. All serious growers should be grafting for the sake of practice on a regular basis. Different trees, different times, different ways. I graft throughout the season. Cutting back the rootstock as soon as the graft shows take in about three weeks really helps. Apically dominant trees especially do better by trimming back the host plant. Obviously if just adding a beach you don’t cut the branch off but if converting a tree get that distal host plant past the graft off as soon as possible. Good graft video. Thank you. Should the long cut should be nserted upwards towards the bark or downwards towards the actual branch ? This is my life time question . Can you guide me please Ryan ? Thanks
@@AntOninPortequoi Than you should make a video on how to do it. Most people not try bc it takes along time and can not dry out even one time or they are dead. I have P Sylvestris cutting I started a year ago. Still alive but no roots.
If you are ever in No Calif check out Lone pine nursery. They graft Japanese cork bark black pine. Takes time but these guys are second generation propagators and know how to make things grow. I think grafting is easier than getting roots to grow on some cuttings. I keep practicing. Maybe someday I’ll figure out how to get my cutting to root.

Sometimes you can chase the foliage back by pruning, but it takes years to do, and even then there's no guarantee.
