  • Hey everyone,
In this video, we go over the weirdest Ford cars that made no sense. Every car manufacture had them but today this video is on the Weirdest Ford Cars. Some may look at Ford Cars and think they are the best looking and for others, the strangest car. Sit back and enjoy the humor in Ford Cars.
The Weirdest cars Ford Ever Produced.
    Ford Pinto
Kicking off our list is the Ford Pinto, infamous for its rear-mounted gas tank that could turn a fender-bender into a fireball. It made you wonder if Ford's engineers moonlighted as barbecue pit designers. If cars had personalities, the Ford Pinto would be the diva of the automotive world. Introduced in the early 1970s, this subcompact vehicle came with its own special effects - in the form of an explosive gas tank! Talk about a car that's a real "blast" to drive. In all seriousness, did it burn or not burn. Some say yes and many say no. The ford pinto certainly did sell well. Our Aunt and Uncle owned one with no issues. Tell us what you think. Leave us your comment below.
    Ford Festiva
The Ford Festiva was a small car with an even smaller name. Its design was so minimalistic it made you ponder if it was trying to be invisible. The Ford Festiva was all about efficiency, which meant it came with an engine that sounded more like a muffled lawnmower than a powerful car.
The Ford Festiva was the '90s compact car that arrived fashionably late to the party, with styling cues that felt more '80s than the '80s themselves. It was the car that made you wonder if it had missed its own era.

Pinto was a good car for the time. The gas tank thing was blown way out of proportion. The Mustang II was actually a good car because the 1973 model was so bloated and heavy that the II went back to it's small roots. IMO it looked good and once the 302 engine was available it was better.

I agree about the Mustang II. I always liked the way they looked. Never had one or even rode in one though. And yes, the 73 Mustang was horribly gawky and oversized.

The Mustang II receives no love. But it actually SAVED the mustang brand. It sold MUCH better than the 1973 it replaced. Mustang sales were starting to tank. As you said, had the 302 been available from day one. It would have gained a lot of respect. But even with only the 4 and v6 they still sold very well. People don’t seem to remember that the next generation mustangs were still mostly sold with the 4 and 6 cylinder engines. The v8 wasn’t the best selling version. Never was and still isn’t.

My Ford Pinto identical to the one you exhibit was great and never in 97,000 miles of driving let me down. A lady in a Lincoln Continental rear ended me causing the body to collapse in front of the rear seat. I never knew about the fire hazard and today I wonder if she drove into my Pinto hoping to see it burn. My father had an heart attack in the accident and regardless of the Pinto having a deformation in the roof and a collapsed rear seat floor I drove him twenty miles to a hospital in the Pinto. My Pinto traveled from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to Washington DC to Dallas Texas to Central Manitoba Canada. I think in 1973 my total fuel cost driving round trip from Omaha to Washington and back was $68.

Fun video. But I don't think the design of the Pinto is weird at all. It had/has a cuteness factor that sold a lot of them from 1971-1980. They were fun to drive and durable (early gas tank issue notwithstanding.) And It's the Ford "Kah". I definitely that one is weird, but in a fun way, which is typical of small European A-class cars.

I absolutely love this car, it has all the room you ever want and gets great mileage out on the highway. Super comfortable for long car trips and very reliable. Edsel had the horrible luck of having been introduced in 1958. It wasn't just Edsel. Everything that Ford produced in '58 was a lemon. Ford did not recover from the bad press until 1965, with a completely new line of more modern cars. In fact, the 1965 Fords were as stylistically significant as the 1949 Fords were.

Quite a good bit of this list makes no sense. Several of these models broke new ground and influenced design for years. Mustang II is hated these days but these sold something like 10 times the numbers of the previous Mustangs, making them massively successful. If this "makes no sense" then there is no such thing as "sense". All of these models, with the exception of Edsel, and maybe the X, which I have never heard of, sold millions and millions of examples, making Ford multiple billions. That is all the sense they need to make.

I always watch your videos because of their car content, but this time you are quite off. Firstly the Edsel wasn't a car, but a car line like Mercury. Next the Mustang II wasn't weird; it simply wasn't as sporty as a Mustang was expected to be. The Ka is pronouced like car without the r as a Bostonian would pronounce car. The Festiva wasn't really a Ford design as it was a Mazda 121 built by Kia and then sold by Ford in North America and a few other places because Ford couldn't sell the Fiesta profitably in those markets. Still love your show and I personally wanted quite a few on this list, especially the Flex. Missed the EXP on this list, which was another car I wanted.

We had 2 Aerostars (1994 cappuccino brown and 1995 sea foam green) we gave the 1995 to my eldest sister and kept the ‘94 drove it to Hawthorne, Florida one summer during our church camp meeting and a woman in a late ‘90’s Taurus hit us from behind she didn’t damage anything just a slight bump but ol’ Brandie kept on trucking til her untimely death in 2011.

They added a 302 option, i think just 140HP, into the Mustang II in 1975 as people complained about just having a 2.8L V6 as the biggest engine. The 2.3L was the base engine.

A 9:59 ...I owned two Mustang II's...one in 1981 (a 1974 WHITE Ghia with a green top)...and one in 1984 (a 1974 GREEN Ghia with a white top)...they were both lemons...I found out later they shared many internal design aspects of the Pinto...

Right out of the gate, taking issue with the Ford Flex. Nah. LOVE those things. It’s the closest thing to a station wagon that Ford made, except for when Ford made sedan-based station wagons.
    It’s a brilliant vehicle.

I've said it in previous videos, and it bears repeating: You couldn't kill a Festiva. I bought one in 2006 for $500. I ended up selling it because we moved and were downsizing. I wish I'd kept it.

Family had a pinto wagon growing up, couldn't make it up mount Washington but we slapped the bumper sticker on it anyway.
Had a 64-1/5 Mustang and a '73 Mustang, my sister's '78 Mustang II was probably closer to my 64-1/2.
Also the Mustang II front suspension was so revolutionary it was such a common swap in my (Fox Chassis) 80's Mustang GT that it was in all the catalogs,.
Also had a '80 Mercury Bobcat.
    Stick.
    Mercury Bobcat.
    Who's had one of those?

I bought a 2009 Flex, and we loved our family trips in it, and just sold it last year. I look at some of the new designs from Hyundai and Kia and they look just like the Flex, and I see more on the road now than when they were new, and people love them. The new Mazda CX-90 is within an inch of the dimensions of the Flex and the only reason it had to stop production was because it was a Volvo chassis and Ford had sold it off.

We (Dad and I) have a '91 Mustang GT he got new in August 1991. It originally had almost every option except the leather interior and the stereo with the graphic equalizer, which I always wished the car had. Last year, I was able to find a brand new old stock equalizer and the correct main head unit (which just has a balance control, and no internal amplifiers) for a steal, partially because it was listed on eBay as for the Aerostar vs Mustang. As far as those components go, it's the same for each vehicle. They likely would have sold for 2.5+ times as much if the listing said Mustang, given they were new. Thank you, Aerostar!

About the Mustang ll, I don't think it to be an quorky awkward looking. From design-point It has only 1 and 1/2 issue(s): wheel-base and wheel-size.
Imagine a Mustang ll with bigger wheels and longer wheel-base, you 'll have a perfectly balanced and proportioned mid 70s coupe.
The Festiva was so "80s", because it simply WAS a 80s Mazda 121. Also about the Ka, cars of that size were and are usually in Europe and Asia.

Going back to a smaller and lighter mustang, like the M2 under 3,000 lbs would be nice today, it would be light enough for economy use, and faster when hot rodded like it was in the 70s when the pinto and
M2 was dominating Pro stock Drag Racing, and the M2 was the highest selling mustang since 1967, and in its first year 1974 out sold the fox body's first year in 1979 with out a V8 Available, a mustang that gets a lot more love than the M2, today's mustang has crept up as high as 4,100 lbs just what a 76 Toreno weight, the 79 through 92 crown vic,s weight was 3,600 lbs about the same as a 2door 65 Galixie ,
