When my son was little, I watched a lot of truly awful movies with him but Pixar's were always a complete delight for both of us. The montage of Carl and Ellie aging together in Up is one of my all time favorite movie scenes. I was in a puddle of tears by the end of it.

Pixar is one of the studios that have retained quality control, despite Disney buying them out. They nearly broke up with Disney because they didn’t like the way Disney wanted low budget sequels out of their films!

@@mawlinzebra Sure they can. Everyone could quit and then form a new company with a different name. It would still be all the same people just under a different name. Also it's possible that despite being owned by Disney that the company's ownership comes with caveats that gives Pixar leverage in terms of what they can force Disney to do. And of course, there's the simple fact that Pixar is popular and people like them and if they raise a stink and cause Disney bad publicity it'll cost Disney money, and to avoid that Disney may be willing to bend a little for them.

@waisodim666 I’m talking about prior to the merger, in 2004 Pixar wanted to stop making films for Disney, if they made sequels of Pixar films without their permission. John Lasseter and Steve Jobs almost didn’t sell Pixar to Disney, had it not been for Disney mismanaging the animation studio.

      @jamaljenkins9603 4 роки тому +5

Eric Lewis the only ones who believe some people should not have actual real rights are liberals. A real right is something like freedom of religion or freedom of opinion. Disagreeing with liberal agendas such as homosexual behaviour is not taking anyone’s right away. Even not allowing abortion is not taking anyone’s rights away. Since abortion is murder and murder is not a right. Even homosexual marriage is not a right. Just like incest or polygamy marriage is not a right. People need to learn the meaning of an actual right. Rights are God given and are productive for a healthy/godly society. Not based one what the state or liberals think which is usually destructive and selfish.

  • @spiritofthetime

The thing I find most impressive about Toy Story and Finding Nemo in particular are the strengths of the storytelling. The medium of computer animation could have all too easily been indulged for it's own ends (and probably was at the time, I was just old enough to remember the hype of "virtual reality" 3D graphics being showcased through glorified walking simulators in the early 90s and later this marvellous invention called the Worldwide Web that showcased a whole new language and dimension that everyone was talking about but no one really understood).
I suppose that's what differentiated Pixar from its many contemporaries - that and combining with Disney's marketing might: I remember my cereal boxes on the breakfast table being plastered with Toy Story marketing upon release and every bus stop, store catalogue and mall entrance had some advertisement for it.
I never fully understood Steve Jobs' role in developing Pixar. Thanks for another high quality primer @Company Man.

My all-time favorite animated movie "The Brave Little Toaster" was the reason Lasseter was fired. He initially wanted to create it with computer generated backgrounds and traditional hand-drawn animation for the characters. After pitching it, Disney thought it would be too expensive, and it was shelved. Later, it was picked up by a team led by Jerry Rees and produced by Hyperion Pictures. Its a fantastic (albeit niche) movie, and is deeply rooted in the history of the animation industry. If you haven't seen it, I'd recommend checking it out!

Because most 3d animated films now are bland, forgettable and don't stand the test of time. Some of Saberspark's videos do a nice job explaining why these companies and films aren't doing so great now.
Pixar is still doing great to me. Dreamworks, Blue Sky and Illumination haven't really been consistent in their quality of animated films. Only a few movies from them are really well made.

    21) The Good Dinosaur (I almost fell asleep lol)
    20) The Incredibles 2 (Saw a chunk of it and turned it off. Wasn't as good as #1)
    19) Brave (It was okay, nothing special)
    18) Toy Story 4 (decent but felt tacked on to the trilogy, story was weak)
    17) The Incredibles (It's really good but not my favorite)
    16) Cars 2 (I like this more than other people do, a decent spy flick)
    15) Inside Out (Ending was a bit weak to me but I loved most of it)
    14) Coco (This was such a sweet movie)
    13) Up (I really love this movie but like Incredibles, not my favorite)
    12) Monsters Inc. (Pete Doctor is a God)
    11) Monsters University (I love the message of this one, it's realistic)
    10) Cars (Really fun and meaningful, don't get the hate)
    9) Finding Dory (Chillingly amazing, especially the last scene. Beautiful)
    8) Cars 3 (Amazing send off to Cars. Good commentary on new generation)
    7) A Bug's Life (A true animated epic. Classic.)
    6) Wall-E (Masterpiece of a film. Truly inspiring)
    5) Toy Story 3 (Amazing and utterly jaw dropping. It hits deep)
    4) Toy Story 2 (The screenplay is pure genius. It's so fucking funny and emotional simultaneously)
    3) Finding Nemo (One of the best animated stories ever told. Emotionally swelling epic)
    2) Ratatouille (Masterpiece about art and criticism. Beautiful.)
    1) Toy Story (The best animated film ever made. 80 minutes of perfection and genius writing)

Andre and Wally B was not animated using a Pixar animation computer, it was animated using a Cray X-MP/48 supercomputer and a group of 10 DEC VAX/11-750 computers. At that time the Cray would have been used at somewhere like NASA Ames Research center for modeling stuff for the space shuttle, and a single VAX-11/750 would be used at a company like TRW for a team of say 10 researchers doing material sciences or electrical engineering calculations. Cray lent them the use of the X-MP/48 and MIT lent them the use of the 1- VAX/11-750's.
