@@chichi2425 the same happened to me, I wanted to get rid of some annoying villager. When he finally decided to leave, I didn't have enough Nook Miles Tickets to find a good villager, and the game chose an even worse villager by itself...

The rarest thing is seeing a large shadow and not catching a Sea Bass.
That just made me hate sea bass more than I already do

it baffles me that my 2 starter villagers (lyman & plucky) share a birthday. the odds of me having 2 villagers with the same birthday were already incredibly rare, but those 2 villagers being the 2 randomly generated jock and sisterly is even crazier! what a lovely surprise :D

I was amazed when I saw the Aurora. I didn’t think they would add a spectacle of nature to animal crossing. Also I got heavy shooting stars when I first saw my first shooting star session.
Edit: I also got scorpion/moneyrock island one my third day playing so that’s nice I guess.
For me, the rarest thing I've gotten in this game is not only sharing a birthday with a villager, but sharing a birthday with a STARTER villager. Since New Horizons is my first ever Animal Crossing game, I didn't know any character nor what any of their birthdays are. To think that the game basically just gave me a birthday twin just like that lol

this happened a few days ago and i knew it was gonna be flick who was visiting the next day. combine those 39 tarantulas with a museums worth of peacock and agrias butterflies and i jumped from 5M to 7M in one day HDHDHSH
Once when I was playing after 9 I was like “oh hey it’s after 9 I might get tarantula island but it’s pretty unlikely”

my sister complained saying she wanted cookie, that one pink dog villager, so her being new to the game i told her to use her one and only nook miles ticket to see who she'd get. she got cookie first try. i was freaking the fuck out while she was just happy to get who she wanted lmao

October 15th has three villagers that share a birthday apparently. Might be interesting to calculate how rare it is to have all three on your island if that's even possible.

Update: I recently let Margie move out and resumed the hunt. After 68 mystery islands I found the elusive Raymond and had him move in.
He was like the third villager to visit my campsite! Now if only I could get Diana.

I don’t remember if it was on this video, the part two, or somewhere on Twitter, but someone mentioned that they once had two phone calls in the same morning (which I’ve also had). There’d now be a way to potentially get THREE phone calls, but you’d need a reasonably new save file to do step two.
1. Donate something to the Nook’s Cranny dropbox. The Nooks will call you in the morning to let you know the Bells have been deposited.
2. Visit Harvey’s Island for the very first time and take one Villager. Normally he will call you reach your island & leave your airport, but if you save & quit from HIS island & pick the game up the next day, he’ll call you then instead (either before the Nooks or after, I don’t remember which)
3. Installing the Happy Home Designer DLC will make Tom Nook call you & ask you to meet Lottie at the airport
I know there are other one-time things that result in phone calls as well, but I don’t remember what those are. Anyone else able to help me out?
I have had that situation where I got 3 phone calls.

What's funny is the "two villagers share a birthday with each other" chance because I have 4 villagers that share birthdays with another person. Like, 2 pairs of villagers share a birthday (2 different dates, 2 share one birthday and 2 share another birthday)
When I first started playing, I had shooting stars and invited my friends to come over. it was the first time I'd seen stars in AC ever! It was a heavy star pattern because I literally could not walk anywhere without 3-4 stars happening. I completed the nook miles achievement in that 1 night for making all the wishes on the stars, it was crazy!
Whenever Celeste appears on my island it's already some kind of witchcraft because sis literally comes like 5 times a year max

I had 3 NPC characters (CJ, Celeste and Wisp) and a camper all in one day!! I made a post to Reddit asking others if it’s ever happened to them; turned out to be an extremely lucky event!
I literally had the heavy shooting star shower two days ago and I think I made a wish to them like 50 times. The next day I found 11 star fragments at the beach. 10 of them were the regular ones and one was a scorpio one. Yay?

I never even knew they were a thing in the game. Were they there from the very beginning? Because I played like +300 hours the first month the game came out and literally never saw them, and then I took a really long break, one of my villagers telling me it's been like 11 months or so...
(I basically rage quitted because the new fishes were super rare and near impossible to catch, demanding insane reaction times for such ultra casual game)
I felt like the luckiest person ever when after starting my island in March I got 3 of my dreamies in 1 day irl (I was time travelling through the first month). I got Henry as the first and mandatory campsite villager, Muffy on the first villager hunt on the 3rd ticket and Cyd autofilled the day after Muffy coming. that was truly crazy for me since on my previous island I didn't have any dreamies after playing for 5 months without time travelling. and a few weeks ago I found Raymond in my campsite! absolute shock that was. I don't really like him that much but took him cuz I had to get rid of an enemy. turns out he's pretty chill but definitely 10 times less exciting for me than my other cat villager and a dreamie Tabby
9:30 the math is even more complicated than that considering not all birthdays are created equal. I know for a fact people's birthdays are not spread evenly throughout the year, so the likelihood that a particular person was born on a particular day of the year needs to be factored in before the problem can begin. I believe 9 of the 10 most common birthdays are in mid September which is pretty much packed full of ACNH birthdays.

It was my first day looking for Raymond, I used a ticket to go to an island to find him. No villager was there. I came back to my island to finish building a camp. I talked to Mitzi and she talked about the house that was sold. The person who bought it was Raymond.
can’t they ask if someone wants to leave when they’re in your campsite?? i mean, they’d pick a random villager from the ones in your island and say “i heard that ___ wants to leave”. idk i had that happen with alice i think
i once found raymond on finn island on a hunt FOR raymond... my friends are completely convinced i have the best luck when it comes to this game and this proved it

Played an indecent amount of Animal Crossing, and most special thing to happen to me was two balloons lining up. It was during easter season, so double balloons, and I had put my switch in sleep mode at one point. Another factor is that the balloons moved at different speeds. Anyway, I ended up shooting two balloons with one shot, which was pretty neat
With ~35 million units of ACNH sold to date, you'd expect about 5300 people to have had that "sharing a birthday with two villagers on the island" constellation happen with just their first ten uncurated villagers.

The first shooting stars event that I ever had was a heavy one, I was in the middle of diving for sea creatures but just had to go stand on the beach because I kept missing so many haha. I remember being really confused the next time I got shooting stars, since there were a lot less appearing.
The luckiest thing that happened to me in this game is that I got stitches, Ankha, pekoe, Chrissy, Pietro, zucker and cookie without using amiibos 😌 I also get the Aurora borealis quite a lot!

I got a heavy shooting star on my first shooting star show. Was pretty neat but I got the impression that every shooting star show would be heavy afterwards.

Assumptions:
1. Your birthday is distributed based on the frequency of the dates. There are on average 365.2425 days in a year, the .2425 thanks to the 97 leap years every 400 years. So the probability that your birthday is on February 29th is .2425/365.2425; for all other dates it's 1/365.2425.
2. Each villager is equally likely to be on your island. I'm not getting into the initial villager spawning rules based on personalities. If you've played the game long enough and cycled through a number of villagers, the effect of the initial batch should be largely washed away.
There are 366 possible dates; which break down into:
- 5 days with 0 villager birthdays (incl. Feb 29);
- 324 days with 1 villager birthday; and
- 37 days with 2 villager birthdays.
So there are 398 total villagers.
Problem A: The probability that you share a birthday with a villager:
The probability that your birthday is on a 0-birthday date is 4.2425/365.2425. If this is the case, obviously you won't share a birthday with any villager.
The probability that your birthday is on a 1-birthday date is 324/365.2425. If this is the case, you have a 10/398 chance of having that one villager who shares your birthday on your island.
The probability that your birthday is on a 2-birthday date is 37/365.2425. If this is the case, you have a 396/398 * 395/397 * ... * 387/389 chance of *not* having either of the two villagers who share your birthday on your island (the 1st villager is not one, the 2nd villager is not one, etc.), and so have a 1 - (396/398 * 395/397 * ... * 387/389) chance of *having* at least one such villager on your island.
Thus the probability that you share a birthday with a villager is 4.2425/365.2425 * 0 + 324/365.2425 * 10/398 + 37/365.2425 * (1 - (396/398 * 395/397 * ... * 387/389)) = .0273 = 2.73%.
Problem C: The probability that you share a birthday with 2 villagers:
This is a 2-step process. Step 1: you "roll" a birthday that is one of the 37 2-birthday dates. Step 2: you have both villagers that share your birthday on your island.
The probability of step 1 is, as we have seen, 37/365.2425.
Step 2 takes a bit more work. The number of ways to choose 10 villagers to be on an island out of the 398 total possible villagers is given by the binomial coefficient 398C10, pronounced "398 choose 10". For each specific 2-birthday date, the eligible islands will have the two birthday villagers, plus 8 other villagers, so there are 396C8 such islands. So for each specific 2-birthday date, the probability of an island that has both birthday villagers is 396C8/398C10.
So the probability that you share a birthday with 2 villagers is 37/365.2425 * 396C8/398C10 = .00005770 = .005770%.
Problem B: 2 villagers share a birthday:
I give up. The combinatorial scenarios are too complicated, because you have to consider islands that have multiple pairs of villagers and avoid counting them multiple times. That said, I don't think A * B = C, because A and B are not independent events.
The rarest thing for me so far is Redd having statues, and even when he does, they're typically fake. Seriously, I've collected fifteen paintings and only have three genuine statues. I'm never going to fill the art section of my museum at this rate. :/

I got Tasha in my town in October and I was so surprised to share birthday with her in November 30th. What's worse: Kicks was in my town that day, and he apparently also shares birthday with us.

@@KVoinre IMO there’s so much QoL stuff missing from NH and a general lack of content. There are cool new features but after a year I’ve stopped playing. The repetitive villager dialogue is really disappointing and makes daily play monotonous and cheap.
@@ChannelCreator that is a definite downside but the reason I play it more is mainly for nostalgia. It's not a amazing or incredible game for sure but I still have memories to go with it. It emotionally means a lot

I can confirm the rarity of finding a cat villager. While searching for Raymond, it took me 8 hours and about 100k Nook Miles before I finally found Bob and took that boy home 😭

If your dream villager is a cat, you’re going to have a bad time (sans) finding them.
There’s 35 cats in the game, and 23 species. Multiply them together and you get 805. Meaning you have a 1 in 805 chance of finding your dream cat villager.
