Video idea: "When lower stats are better" examples: slow u-turn, lower attack against foul play and confusion, lower speed for trick room, lower stats for hidden power, etc.
Lower stats for hidden Power isn't near as cool as the others (imo it isn't nearly as much of a choice since if you want hp ice you don't really choose much afterwards. Unless you mean weird hp distributions, in which case sure)
i love the graphic at 4:10 showing the pros and cons of sticky web setters and leavanny’s just sitting there at the bottom with its only pro being it has webs
Theres also gen 7 mix and mega where it was a similar case....with ampharosite. basically most teams then relied on either sablenite, zapdos, landorus-t (which later also got banned from holding mega stones), or mandibuzz to hazard block, since most hazard setters couldnt get through magic bounce, but shuckle could while punishing others with toxic. ampharosite also giving shuckle a good matchup into standard primal groudon also meant that it could punish anything from it with relative safety while scouting its sets, and webs teams could afford to trade hazards with it. it was only further helped by the reliance on zygarde in the tier as the premier altarianite (pixilate) extreme speed user that made it over the top, as you couldnt win by simply being faster and dragonite was restricted while arcanine and entei couldnt ohko before being ohkoed by +1 stab thousand arrows or just +1 thousand arrows into extreme speed. pdon was also just kinda crazy with it too and that was the best mon in the tier that also checked a shit ton of mons so you couldnt exactly remove it either. zyg is/was still debatably broken in that tier, but the ladder is now gone and the banlist was locked at the end of gen 7.
@@agentblackbird9435 They said "mix and mega". It sounds like anyone holding a mega stone can evolve into that mega. So if Shuckle holds an Ampharosite, it can mega evolve into Mega Ampharos. It sounds like a really interesting format.

I used Shuckle in a Shield playthrough, and after many attempts, I swept Kabu with it. One of my favourite moments in a Pokémon playthrough, that was fun.
And then the *other* time Shuckle was overpowered was in VGC, when it had the perfect storm of not just team support but rulesets, it could use Power Trick to give its defenses to an Eviolite Chansey and then stall the opponent out of time.
It wasn’t overpowered at all, but it was very… VERY irritating to deal with, because it wasn’t just a guard split Chansey, it was a Guard Split Minimize Chansey. You dealt like 2% a hit and all of your moves have the accuracy of Fissure.
Shuckle is my favorite Pokemon, it's already great to see getting love. It would be a menace if it got an evolution that evened out its hp with its defenses

Power split is an underrated move It basically halves either attacking stat, isn’t reset by haze, bypasses magic bounce and clear body, and is generally a great tool for shutting down a powerful attacker Guard split is really useful in doubles for bolstering a teammate’s defense, just be wary of follow me I used a dual split shuckle with encore and protect in gen 8 doubles and it was really fun Giving shuck speed with speed swap ribombee allowing it to disrupt opposing mons was the core idea of my gen 8 monotype doubles team and it worked decently well
The main issue of Power Split is that when opponents switch out, which they usually do, their stats reset but due to Shuckle now having far too high stats, it can't reliably use the move again. It's essentially Charm/Eerie Impulse if it was a one time only move, and overall it's worse than Noble Roar, which can at least be stacked. Guard Split was once a (not even that good) gimmick with Chansey, but aside from that it's not too great. Basically you give up a turn for a +1 to your partner's defenses on average, and for that you turn Shuckle into glass.
@@nicolaistuhlmuller8718 like i said, main difference is that it bypasses abilities like clear body and magic bounce. Good for catching Hatterene off guard

Can someone explain to me how the base 20 health yet base 230 sp/defence thing works? Is it that it takes a lot to knock off a HP but it doesn't have many? In which case, would this be the same as having base 40 health and base 115 sp/defence (ignoring EV/IVs).
With base stats it's a bit iffy because they don't 100% depend on base stats, but yes if a mon had 200 hp, 500 def and 500 spdef, it would be exactly the same as 400 hp, 250 def and 250 spdef. 244 hp and 614 def, which is the maximum shuckle can have, is equal to 488hp and 307 def, which you'd get with 142 base hp and 90 base def. So Shuckle having 20 hp and 230 (sp)def would be equal to having 142 hp and 90 (sp)def. Its bulk is ultimately similar to Vaporeon if its spdef was as high as its defense, or generally Umbreon.
