@@thefilmalliance yeah, the A7C is an upgraded a73, so why get the A73, and it’s the same price as the FX30. But I would still just save a little longer and get the A74. I really don’t see the point in getting a crop sensor camera today, especially an expensive one, when you can get a full frame camera for about the same price or a little more. Like you said, if you get the exposure right in the camera, you really don’t need to do that much color grading.
Thats actually a great question. I created a camera quiz to help you figure out which camera is best for what you are using it for. Have you taken it yet?
Your first minute and 49 seconds of the video made an inaccurate comparison between the A7iii and the FX30. To paraphrase you said, yea, you can access more colors in post with the FX30 but ultimately they will look the same. You're basically brushing off the fact that the FX30's ability of its 10-bit footage gives you more control as if it isn't that important or relevant to film production when the opposite is true. The end result of what you render out is NOT separate from the process of how much control you have over improving and altering the image you're working with. At 5:17, you say that both the FX30 and the A7iii have the same sensor, just different sizes is disinformation of the worst kind. The FX30's sensor is BRAND NEW and based on new technology. It's not just a different size. You say that the A7iii is full frame and will have better performance in low light. That's true to a limited extent. If you try to shoot Slog3 on the A7iii you still won't have the control in post that you will have with the FX30's 10-bit. The 8-bit footage out of the A7iii will fall apart much quicker in post if you push and pull at it too hard. It does not have the same flexibility as the FX30 10-bit in post no matter what you say. Sensor size is overrated and misunderstood. Many Hollywood film productions use high end cameras with Super 35 sensors. Which are about the same size as the APS-C, but better technology. It's funny that since the FX30 was announced, I've seen more insane comparisons between cameras that should never be compared than ever before. It comes off as a desperate attempt to get more attention. You create excellent content. But, I don't think the FX30 and A7iii are relevant comparisons.
Thank you for the honest feedback. I appreciate you helping me understand it better. Please tell me if you have decided to pickup the FX30 (with the new sensor:)

One angle interview is great already but two is more dynamic in a video. And about weddings.. i sold my gh5 because it wasnt a ideal run and gun camera.. i need assistant and my wife helsps me with the wedding gigs.. so she need good af in a camera coz she dosent have that much of experience. I will rig it as a cinema camera with monitors etc.. and i can also have more flexible pricing when you have to cameras.. A cam is for higher price clients and a7iii with lower price.. so many good things in this fx30.

I can use my APSC lenses on my a7sii full frame body as long as Super35mm is turned ON (so it does loses the point of a full frame sensor). It kind of works on telephoto lenses, but still gives me a little vignette (I have used it as an aesthetics choice a couple of times). So I would say don't count on it!

Okay, definitely appreciate your detail and surely this is just a video to try and generate views, but you are comparing an Apple to a Cucumber. No one in their right mind trying wanting to do stills should consider the FX30 or any other cinema focused camera. Or are we going to doc a Sony Venice camera because it does not do photos? lol. One comment you made around 9:00 was about FX30 not being great with stills, was that well, you can do both with a hybrid, and you can bring 1 camera to a shoot. Sorry, but if you are a professional, or anyone that tries to make money from videography or photography, I sure as heck hope you have more than one camera with you when you go on a job. "Sorry Mr./Mrs. client... My camera broke and I cannot complete the job, this was a hybrid camera so I only needed one." A few years ago, before the A7IV and all of the many competitors that can do 4:2:2 10 bit, and higher frame rates, I would agree, someone would be cross shopping with the a7iii.... (if they wanted to stay in the sony eco system), but right now, this really ought to come down to... "If your budget is ABSOLUTELY $2,000, get the FX30 if you are a video shooter and get something else if you will need photos and don't have another camera." Paying $2k for an A7iii right now is kinda silly too. The price is outdated anyway, my local camera store is blowing them out for $1,300 new, body only, with the current Sony trade in promo. The a7IV is $2,200 or if you were really on a budget, get a new A7C for $1,300. (sony's trade in promo runs through nov 6).

I love that phrase, but once cry once haha. Can you explain why A7C is fairer comparison? Isn’t it just an upgraded a7iii?
@@thefilmalliance yeah, the A7C is an upgraded a73, so why get the A73, and it’s the same price as the FX30. But I would still just save a little longer and get the A74. I really don’t see the point in getting a crop sensor camera today, especially an expensive one, when you can get a full frame camera for about the same price or a little more. Like you said, if you get the exposure right in the camera, you really don’t need to do that much color grading.
I will only shoot 4k50 so it will be crop anyway
@@Panotaker a7iii>a7c cuz 2 card slots and ergonomics.
Great video just plz need a video on ZVe10 with 16mm vs 11mm sony lens .i would really Like to have a side by side comparison..Good Luck
That's a great idea. I will have to put that on the schedule. Thank you so much.
Thank you great video fantastic advice!
what are your tips on how to color match the A7III and A7SIII? I find the color is very off between the two of em

For filming fireplaces ...what do you recommend?
Thats actually a great question. I created a camera quiz to help you figure out which camera is best for what you are using it for. Have you taken it yet?
@@thefilmalliance no, didn't see it
The button for results is not working
@@thefilmalliance can you recommend please a camera for filming fireplaces?
Hey there, we fixed the issue, I’d say go with an aps-c camera for that
I’m a inspiring filmmaker who owns a lumix 85 and looking to upgrade. Should I go A7 III OR FX30
Hey Darrell I’ll have to say go with the FX 30 then you’ll have some slow motion options
Full frame
Had both
Love my a series fulls
What’s a good camera for 2k for Cinema for beginners
Very useful video - Thanks!
Thanks David, did you preorder the FX30?
guys I have a a7siii and a7iv. should I sell my a7iv for this. I shoot weddings and have alot of power light. just bought the a7iv. I don't want to jump on the bandwagon of (get the newest thing out their). the low light worries me with the fx30. it is a nice price point though. I don't really do photos
I think that APSC crop will benefit wedding videographers like yourself. Also glass will be much cheaper. Fo you have any APSC lenses?
@@thefilmalliance yes I do have a few romantic previous a6400
@@thefilmalliance low light?
Love the comparison ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks, do you have either of these cameras and are you preordering the FX30?
@@thefilmalliance i sold my sony A7iii recently. But now iam planning to buy fx30
Would you recommend getting the tamron 17-70mm 2.8 lens for the Fx-30? I'm currently using the ZV1
Yes that would be a great all around lens. What do you normally shoot?
@@thefilmalliance I do mostly videos but would like to take pictures on the side when possible!
Hi I mainly shoot sports videos , would you recommend the fx30?
No the FX30 is more of a film maker’s camera, in your situation I would go with the new a6700.
@@thefilmalliance thanks ! Will be looking to return my fx30 if the 6700 releases soon
so the FX30 doesnt take regular 300MB/s SD cards? only CF express? hmm....I have used regular SD cards with my a6400 in 4k-I don't use heavy codecs...if I connect an external monitor to the FX30 and press record, does the video signal stay on for BOTH the external monitor and the camera's LCD? with my a6400 the LCD goes to black while keeping menu info on screen...thanks
What camera and lens did you use to shoot that intro?? Love that bokeh 😍
since both are e mount, just curious why viltrox lenses aren't compatible with a7iii. Noob videographer here.
Why not A7c instead of A7III?
Hey Vlad that’s a great idea. I’ll have to rent one
@@thefilmalliance It could be nice! A7c have about the same price as Fx30 and better color science (over A7III) plus some autofocus improvements..
I’ve been debating if I sell my a7iii or 7c for the fx30
I’d say do it! Do you shoot professionally or as a hobby?
@@thefilmalliance mainly hobby but professional work from time to Time nothing commercial level though. Makes no sense to have both of those to me other than having 2 lenses ready.
should I get the Fujifilm x-s10 or the A7iii used ?
where you at on this now
I am a video and photographer. I like doing as much photos than video, but video is more nice to do than photos. Editing is nice, audio i like a lot. And great audio is more important than a video quality. I will buy fx30 as my A video cam. A7iii will be my hybrid cam. But i can use bought together in projects and client work. One angle interview is great already but two is more dynamic in a video. And about weddings.. i sold my gh5 because it wasnt a ideal run and gun camera.. i need assistant and my wife helsps me with the wedding gigs.. so she need good af in a camera coz she dosent have that much of experience. This is very good price.. it has this cinema look.. only if you know how to shoot and more flexibility.. but those expensive memory cards i am not interested.. so i will stay up to 4k 50p. I will rig it as a cinema camera with monitors etc.. and i can also have more flexible pricing when you have to cameras.. A cam is for higher price clients and a7iii with lower price.. so many good things in this fx30.
Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful comment. I agree with everything you said. I’m happy you thought about the expensive memory in your budgeting. Don’t worry, wait for the market to become saturated and then buy it used for $1000. Or you could rent from LensRentals. How long have you been filmmaking?
@@thefilmalliance Yeah i Will Work now only with one camera and its so much simpler. I Have filmed now For Over 3 years. I still keep visualising how great i can become and i think The journey IS just about to beging. There are More important things than a new camera and i wish on The beginning i new better. I need My own website, More lights , better shotgun microphone. Also to get The a7iii Image Look more filmic i Will buy The 16mm film lut. I started to Make a short series now of short films. Each film is its own story. First was happynes. Next one is Anger. I shoot wedding films, music videos , commercials For comoanies etc.

Yes I customized my own setting similar to my ZV-1 s-cinetone profile. Have you seen that?
thus the fx30 still have slog2 picture profile can you still use it?
what about a camera for traveling ? FX30 or A7C

Yes, that may be the winner but don’t forget about cheap APSC glass
a7iii ❤
En todo el video no haz puesto una sola imagen de fx30.
Para grabar video es mas completa fx30
No mechanical Shatter in FX30
Used the a7iii 1 time and it over heated and it wasn't even in the hands.
i thinkin im thinking that im thinking that i want to think that im thinking for that the im thinking i want the fx30
Hahaha, thats too deep for me to follow. So do you want it or not:)?
Can I use APSC lenses on full frame? Without loosing the full frame look (even if it has to be cropped)
If you want the look of a 24mm get a 16mm if you want the look of a 85mm get a 56m. I used the 55 1.8 and 85 1.8 on my a6100 for awhile before upgrading to a7riv.
Thank you, yes everything holdmyown said
Full frame lenses on crop bodies yields reduction of field of view (50mm looks like 75mm) and f/stop. An f 2.8 will have the bokeh look of an f4.0.
I can use my APSC lenses on my a7sii full frame body as long as Super35mm is turned ON (so it does loses the point of a full frame sensor). And if I try to shoot 4k on it, which uses the whole sensor size it gives me a huge vignette on wide angle lenses. It kind of works on telephoto lenses, but still gives me a little vignette (I have used it as an aesthetics choice a couple of times). So I would say don't count on it!
Full frame is expensive 😢
I know:(
A7III
Good information brother, thanks for the video. God bless you, Jesus loves you man! 🔥😊

500gb for half day shoot? thats ridiculous, I shoot 10 hours weddings on the FX3 with 1 256gb on 4k 60fps at 100mb/s, also 8bit vs 10bit night and day difference, stop been a clown.
I should make a worse version of this video 😂
Hahaha Stop “Mr. 20k around the corner”. Plot twist - Mark and Joe work for Sony as secret UA-camrs and they don’t own any of these cameras
