Still using my Sony a7 iii in 2024! It's a great camera...just used it to shoot a wedding in Mexico. It does it all and lets be honest. It takes a while to build a work-flow and to dial in all your camera settings. It's surprising to me how many people rush out and buy the latest-and-greatest when it's often better to be nimble and quick and 1st know hot to get the most out of what you already have before going out and starting over with something new. Just my .02 on the matter...but I think it's still a very reliable and creative camera in 2024.
@@GraysonGyms you'd be better off with A7s III if you can manage to get your hands on it. No time limit, 10 bit color, which A7 III does not have. Also better codec than A7 III. However many videographers used this camera with great results.

4:00 not complicated at all. :) I bought two this year, for the price of one discounted A7 IV. ;;) Making the switch after 17 years on Nikon. But I'm more of a late follower myself. I think the camera is fantastic. For the money and with 3 years warranty, could not ask for more. It's also good to make money with, no problem. It was 5-6 years ago, it still is now. The menu is to forget about (I understand they've improved it on the newer cameras), but other than that the camera it's just awesome. I like the compact form factor. I wish it had more dials (as found on A9, A1), but I can work quite ok with what it offers. Speaking of high iso noise, A7 III actually performs better than A7 IV. And I wouldn't recommend an aps-c camera over a full frame one. Not ever. As a side/backup camera, maybe. But not as a main camera. Also, A7 III offers two SD slots. Fitted 128 gb and 256 gb cards it allows for 7500+ uncompressed raws. Taking into account I have two cameras (different focal lengths) I can cover a 2-3 days festival with no problems. I always used my a7s with adapted canon lenses and was able to trade those into mpb and get an a7iii with a tamron 28-75 2.8 g2 for a about 500 out of pocket. I mostly upgraded for an individual photoshoot instead of renting a higher resolution body (the a7s would have sucked for the gig). I don't need 10 bit video for my personal video work. After getting 10 years out of my a7s when I actually was using it as my main income source and using the A1 on a regular basis for pro work I can feel very safe knowing I'll be set for a a good few more years with the a7iii.

I’m also using D5300 right now for practicing and street photography. I want to get into freelance photography and planning to upgrade into sony a7iii.
Night & Day upgrade. Years ago I migrated from the D3100 to D5100 to D7000 to D7100, D600 & D750 before selling off Nikon gear in early 2018 and began shooting with an a7III. Better than the D750 in every way. Now shoot with a7IV and a7III. You'll find the a7III is as good as any current camara for photography.
Got this a month ago for around 1100 USD (taxes included) with the 28-70 lens, definitely worth it, less than half of what an A7 IV goes for. Still an extremely capable camera.
Ive owned a A7iii for a few years now and feel like the user experience of the camera is outdated.. The screen resolution the flippy screen. and I mostly reach for my iPhone 13 Pro for hikes, travels. Would you say the UX of the camera alone is worth the swap from full frame to a6700?
I bought one of these as secondary to my A7RV as something a little cheaper to carry with me in my work car when im out doing remote work and I dont want my expensive camera sitting in my car
is a7iii good for sport videography or photography ??? Do you recomend it ? I just makeing my first steps in videogrpahy and i'm looking for good camera for it
Hey thomas, great video, actually i was going to buy my first camera, i am going to do both video and photo, but yes videos are my priority, which one do you think i should go with? a7c, a7iii or a6700? i am getting all three at almost same price.
I have A73 and A7c both, for 5+ years. Since video is your priority, i would say, get the A7c because of flip out screen. On a gimbal , this flip screen is a savior , as you don't need additional monitor. Also, it's lighter , perfect for long trips and Gimbal. Compared to a6700, A7c is better for lowlight, as it's full frame. Hope this helps !!
I wanted to get an A6700, but they cost 1600€ for the body only, add 500 to 700 for a 18-50 or 17-70 and it's quite a lot more than an A7 III and a 28-75 from Tamron! I got a second hand A7 III with 9000 shutter count for just under 1200€, and it came with a Godox flash and a second battery too. Dropped another 650€ for a brand new 28-75 G2 which was also a steal! Still, if the A6700 was cheaper I would have got it without thinking, much newer, portable and cheaper lenses while still achieving extremely good sharpness. By the way, the quality on your videos is amazing, wish you the best!
Just picked up an a7iii for 900 bucks with under 5k shutter actuations. Amazing camera, I love mine! I prob wouldn't buy it new or at 1400 bucks though - I'd shell out a few more hundred and get a Lumix S5ii. Solid review
I currently have a fuji xt2 but found a good price for the a7 iii with two lenses and I‘m not sure if it is worth to switch. What would be your opinion?
Great video. Thanks for sharing. You got a new subscriber :) I still have and use my Sony A7III. I would say around 95% photos and only 5% video. I actually purchased it for both video and photo equally five years ago. But am I the only one who finds it a hassle to use A7III or a mirrorless camera in general for switching between video and photo? For video you have to use an external microphone as build is sucks, which makes it more bulky. And very often outdoors you need a variable ND filter to unless you can except using higher f-stops. But then you switch to photo you would like to remove the ND filter. I feel like you either have to choose between one or the other before going out. And for making it easier I just primarily takes pictures, which the A7III is really great at. Editing images is also faster than editing videos, which also one more part why I ended up taking way more pictures than videos. How do you deal with that?
My requirement is just to shoot makeup tutorial videos. My wife will be doing makeup on herself and talking it through while I shoot the video. This will be followed by video editing to bring out best Color and contrast. Should I go for AZii or canon R8 or something else
i want a C camera and i m torn between the a6700 and the a7c... my main issue is that i got only full frame lenses .... the price is almost the same on both atm to be honest i dont know if the a6700 will be close to my 2 a7vi's
Neither are bad options. The features/frame rates/codecs in the a6700 will pair better with the a7iv, just with a apsc sensor. The a7c will have the same field of view. But thankfully your full frame lenses will work on both! The only other thing is I’d imagine the color science in the a6700 will be more similar to the a7iv than the a7c. They’ve updated it quite a lot over the last couple years
Can you make a video or suggest a video to color grade HLG 3 and the settings to use. My footage looks over saturated and I don’t know what to do to make them look better
istg the amount of hatred i see towards my a7III ,just because its a 8bit camera like tf it came out in 2018 ,this camera bought revolution to the mirrorless camera industry
do you think it is still worth it to buy it around 900-1000 euros? i need to buy my first camera but i don't want to go with the cheaper ones like zv-e10
If it’s the camera you’re wanting, you have lenses or the budget for a lens or two, then yeah it’ll be great! Some people really don’t like the zve10 or a7c size, if you think it would serve you well, and you can afford it then yeah!
Great insight. I really appreciate you making this video. I was flirting with the idea of purchasing a Sony A7iii since it's on sale but I will take a look at the other models you mentioned.
A couple options, I’d definitely say that if you’re filming something important, make sure you get very high quality/reliable sd cards to minimize risk (I’ve personally never had an sd card fail, but i also haven’t ever bought cheap ones) You could go with a ninja V recorder/monitor and record on it and the camera. Or if you wanna save some money, accsoon make something called the “seemo”. It’s a mount for an iPhone that turns your iPhone into a recorder. I have a video here about it: ua-cam.com/video/J0-23apUdM8/v-deo.htmlsi=9pqipaS-Q76l43tW
@@bronzepodcast I personally am a fan of the a6700, you get 10bit color, way more features, cheaper lenses (without losing any quality) and the only difference is the size of the sensor. which I would happily trade off for the savings on lenses and features. But I understand that Full Frame is "In" these days, and the A7C is a great camera!
Hi Thomas, I found a deal on the used market with the Sony a7iii, sony 55mm f1.8, sony 24-105mm f4 and a battery grip all for €999... I would mainly use it for video and filmmaking (the style of Gawx & vuhlandes) What do you think?
Go for it! That’s an amazing deal!!! The 55 f1.8 is one of my all time favorite lenses. And the 24-105 is super versatile. I’d say even if you’re not happy with the a7iii, go for it and then sell the body but keep the lenses. You could get $1000 for the body back to put towards another option if you change your mind
They’re both great, depends what you need. If you use a view finder a lot, or if you like having more custom buttons, probably the a7iii. But if you prefer saving the space and having a smaller camera, or if you prefer a flip out screen, go a7c
for my first wedding photography camera which one is good sony a7iii or nikon z6ii please suggest or any other suggesions please 60% photography 40%vidoe

You cant, i dunno why he was saying $1300 new. I have this camera its great and yeah cost basically the same as what it did when i bought it new in 2018. It doesnt shoot 4k 60 but does 4k30 or 1080 60 and 120. For photos its great. And for most video its great. Sometime having that latest and greatest doest make you a better filmmaker. There will always be something new out. So im working with what i have.
@@kelvv_ Got it; also, after further research, I was looking at the Sony a7siii too. Obviously it costs more but i’d rather buy once cry once versus regretting my choice. Would you recommend? And yes I’ll likely be doing more video than photography
There’s so much more to a camera than the size of the sensor. I really don’t believe sensor size is anywhere near as important as features like 10 bit, dynamic range, sensor read out speeds, frame rates, lowlight, autofocus performance, form factor, screen style (fully articulating vs static), color science, log performance, codecs etc. APSC is great, take the fx30 as an example, I’d choose that over an a7iii any day of the week for video, heck there’s micro four thirds cameras that produce better images than some full frame cameras
@@thomasjmcclure This has been said over the years many many times. But the bottom line is - you will not get the same 'look' between a crop sensor and full frame camera. You will not.
There is a slightly different look of course! I agree. I don’t think one is better or worse. But different, and most people watching something aren’t thinking “oooooh that’s full frame for sure”. It’s one part of many important aspects of capturing an image. Of course full frame cameras are good, that doesn’t mean apsc is therefore bad, just different. The idea that the only feature that matters is sensor size is pretty silly in my opinion, you gotta weigh up all aspects of the camera and ask if it’s worth it based off all areas, not just sensor size
Nice video. But saying an a6700 is on par with a7iii in lowlight could not be less correct. Any apsc camera are miles away from beeing close to an a7iii when it comes to lowlight shooting.
I find both of them to be useable up until ISO 6400. Not all full frame cameras are amazing in low light, the newer Sony ones for sure are, by miles. But the newer APSC cameras are doing pretty well for the restrictions on the sensor size, yes they aren’t as good as an a7iv or a7siii sensor, but compared to older cameras where the tech for low light wasn’t as good as it is today, the a6700 holds up great
@@thomasjmcclure well. Dxo didnt test 6700. But they test 6600 which scored what you would exspect in iso performance. The a7iii is really really high on iso performance, and was a huge step from a7ii. Ill see if I can find a webpage that measuered this. But i stand by my Word. The 6700 is nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to iso performance. Add to that, here in denmark the 6700 house only are around what equals to 400 us dollar more expensive ATM.

Got this a month ago for around 1100 USD (taxes included) with the 28-70 lens, definitely worth it, less than half of what an A7 IV goes for. Still an extremely capable camera.
I started with a Nikon 5300 a few years ago. Really enjoyed that camera.
Sony's UX always sucked donkey balls. The new UX is far far better. If you don't need a FF sensor, A6700 is a great option.
I bought one of these as secondary to my A7RV as something a little cheaper to carry with me in my work car when im out doing remote work and I dont want my expensive camera sitting in my car
You can buy an A7III used for $1350. If you buy them new, they are between $1700-1900 right now
1,499 brand new rn
1,499 kit Len, with a 28-70mm lens
End of 2024, they are now under $1300 new, body only.
is a7iii good for sport videography or photography ???
Do you recomend it ? I just makeing my first steps in videogrpahy and i'm looking for good camera for it
Very good video !!! Helpful 🔥🔥🔥
I switched to Sony for much better autofocus and image quality. Never looked back.
Sooney A7III? :D
Great video, btw!
What other options are there for ecm b1m microphone. Can we convert audio (analogue to digital) in post process.
you'll pay up to $2500 new for it here in Australia
Great video!!
i want a C camera and i m torn between the a6700 and the a7c... my main issue is that i got only full frame lenses .... the price is almost the same on both atm to be honest i dont know if the a6700 will be close to my 2 a7vi's
They’ve updated it quite a lot over the last couple years
@@thomasjmcclure great points , really appreciate it :)
Can you make a video or suggest a video to color grade HLG 3 and the settings to use. My footage looks over saturated and I don’t know what to do to make them look better
overexpose when shooting log footage
I will never switch from full frame to crop for at least one reason. And this reason is my favorite lens Sony 14mm GM! ;)
Could you use this camera for filming a UA-cam video / course filming video and get something nice out of it?
Of course! 30fps in 4k or 1080p at up to 120fps. That said, video isn't it's primary purpose but it will handle most video work for most people
There is a deal here 900$ used 6k shots with 50mm f1.8 sony lens. Do you think its worth it?
istg the amount of hatred i see towards my a7III ,just because its a 8bit camera like tf it came out in 2018 ,this camera bought revolution to the mirrorless camera industry
do you think it is still worth it to buy it around 900-1000 euros? i need to buy my first camera but i don't want to go with the cheaper ones like zv-e10
Thank you so much Thomas for helpful video and sharing your useful thoughts on Sony A7III, God bless and good luck!
What would you suggest as a workaround for the only single sd card slot on the a6700 or a7c?
A couple options, I’d definitely say that if you’re filming something important, make sure you get very high quality/reliable sd cards to minimize risk (I’ve personally never had an sd card fail, but i also haven’t ever bought cheap ones)
You could go with a ninja V recorder/monitor and record on it and the camera. Or if you wanna save some money, accsoon make something called the “seemo”. It’s a mount for an iPhone that turns your iPhone into a recorder. I have a video here about it:
ua-cam.com/video/J0-23apUdM8/v-deo.htmlsi=9pqipaS-Q76l43tW
I am between these two cameras..I can get the A7C at around 1100€ new, or the a6700, for family documentary photos and some portraits, any advice?
@@thomasjmcclure Thank you so much for the reply, you are absolutely right! Keep up the good work my friend, love your vids!
which is the best camera for weeding and professional photography sony a7c or sony a7 iii
They’re both great, depends what you need. If you use a view finder a lot, or if you like having more custom buttons, probably the a7iii. But if you prefer saving the space and having a smaller camera, or if you prefer a flip out screen, go a7c
sony a7iii with sigma 135mm is a beast
for my first wedding photography camera which one is good sony a7iii or nikon z6ii please suggest or any other suggesions please 60% photography 40%vidoe
People are selling for $600 used. Good price point.
A7c is good and all but doesn't have 2 SD slots and the viewfinder is horrible :D
For professional purposes the a6700 won’t cut it without dual card slots.
On the second hand market you can find an a7 IV for $1,900
Watching this video as you say at the end you would love to reach 4k and your almost at 5k! Awesome.
Someone is selling me a almost new a7iii with a 28-70 zoom lens. Excited to get away from Nikon
How much?
awesome video man I was thinking about getting the sony a7 iv or the Canon - EOS R7 Mirrorless Camera with RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens - Black or the Canon D90 if anybody can tell me what I should get let me know thanks guys!
What lense did you shoot the couple photo with at the 3:44 mark?
That was the sigma 35mm f1.4.
@@thomasjmcclure gorgeous photo!
@@thomasjmcclure really loving your PP and the soft whites - is this just with curves (Lightroom?)
Congratulations on getting 4k before ending 2023🎉
Thanks!
If they bring it down to 1k, yes.
Where you find the A7III in $1.300? I just found them at $2.000
You cant, i dunno why he was saying $1300 new.
What is the battery life like?
Amazing. I used to shoot around 1000 photos and there was still juice.
Thanks for this video. I saw a deal on the used market for this camera + Sony G Master F1.4 lens for £865. Is that a good deal?
That is an INSANE deal if legit.
Sir, it's 10bit...?
No it's not
Simple yes
Found one for $700; should I buy the Sony over a Canon R50? I don’t know anything about cameras.
Most definitely always go with Sony before canon if your doing video. My personal opinion. I film for a living
@@kelvv_ Got it; also, after further research, I was looking at the Sony a7siii too. Obviously it costs more but i’d rather buy once cry once versus regretting my choice. Would you recommend? And yes I’ll likely be doing more video than photography
@@Alexander.FoxTrot that is actually what I’m getting. Amazing all around camera. Id pair it with sigma art lenses. glass quality on them are great.
For photos yes, for video no
a7iii
yes. you should. it's super cheap, it has better low light than a7vi and is built like a tank.
A7iii vs a6700
Yesssss I’m curious too
1400? I just buyed it today and its 2100 euro
This guy is saying the same amount will buy you a crop sensor camera. What a tosser.
