    Very much the common sense approach. Currently in my second flush of buds from my first plantings last year. Had twelve beautiful flowers (no fruits). I'm ok with that. One year into dragonfruit and have twelve varieties, many of which should bloom next season.
    I DID, however, pinch some of the early smaller flower buds on the previous flush, and sauteed them for a nice side dish, as opposed to just throwing them on the ground! I'd bet you'll be making those videos soon enough!
    Love your channel and tips Richard!
    Thank you.

    1 ? What is the size of your productive df. Pot. 2 ? how long do you keep in pot without repotting? 3? How high and thickness is your post in the pot. Love your teaching. This video is what I needed for my store bought df I had planted from seeds, now in a five gallon pot. It has become unmanageable so I prune and now I have these cuttings to grow on a trellis like you have. Thus why I have 3 ? Above.

    Have you ever tried leaving just the two buds furthest out on the end of the branch, regardless of size? Maybe that will let both buds utilize the energy and nutrients of the whole branch, whereas maybe buds growing in the middle or beginning of the branch can't use energy from sections of the branch past it. At least thats what I'm thinking, but I could be wrong.

      @@GraftingDragonFruit i do use Dr Earth bud & bloom as well, but only before my buds start coming out. Or when just started coming out. BUT
      i do stop using fertilizer when i see buds. and stop watering when i fruit turns red.

      Am i correct?

    • @paulg6142
      @paulg6142 2 роки тому +2

      @@pashahere Compost tea isnt a fertilizer and doesnt function very well as a nutrient. Compost tea adds microbial life to the soil and assists in breaking down any organic matter and make it more readily available to the plant. I usually use a bloom booster twice. Once when I see buds form and once about two weeks prior to being ripe.

    Hi Richard, may I ask a question? You're awesome by the way. Ok, I have a dragon fruit that has one fruit ripening on a makeshift trellis, and it is starting to lean over. In your opinion, should I just re-pot the whole plant now before this one fruit ripens, or just let it ripen and re-pot during the winter? My thought is it better to lose one fruit now, and re-pot the plant so the roots can grow during the rest of this season, and possibly get more fruit next season on its permanent stable trellis. The fruit that's on it now is huge and still green. Thank you

    • @orpheusdrakos1911
      @orpheusdrakos1911 Рік тому +1

      I know it's really late for this now, but in my opinion its better to let it do its thing, until the fruit ripens. I would just try to prop it up a little bit with a little extra support if you can. And just wait till next spring to repot it. It's typically not good to repot things in winter because it's the time plants recuperate from the fruiting season, and you're just making it have to use up more energy during the winter when it's trying to prepare for spring. The best time to repot is in the early spring to get the best results for growth. hope this help at all (though very late)

      Yes it does depend on variety, that the vine grows thick in size, but it also has to do with how your trellis is... if it doesn't grow on a trellis yet, make one.
      Without a good trellis to let the plant hang over, and proper trimming, it will grow thick and not fruit as much.
