Hi Lauwence and thank you for your very fair review of my shop. Sadly i will be shut for a few weeks as i have a bypass operation this week. However appreciate the goid vibes and reccomend Little Record Shop as best in London amongst the others.Happy record buying and look forward to you returning to my shop
@alandobrin2641 Hi Alan, it's a pleasure. You have a wonderful shop that is one of the best kept secrets in town. I hope the operation goes well and wish you a speedy recovery. I can't wait to get back there. All the best!
Alan's sounds like a nice shop. Great prices and quality finds. I like the look of the the Little Record Shop. I have heard of Upside Down. You guys have some really nice shops over there. I appreciate you sharing them all~ Rob/Boston
There are some really fine shops and it is probably a good thing most of them are on the other side of the city from me. I won't get too carried away! There's plenty to explore here whatever the case. Cheers!
Excellent video - the only one of these I regularly frequent is Upside Down Records in Deptford (round the corner from where I work!) - maybe I will catch you in there one day? I've picked up a few nice cuts from there....
North Londoner here , so spend way too much time in Alan's Records and The Little Record shop . Flashback Crouch End is my favourite . Really missed Rat Records when it disappeared and excited to try Upside Down . Also enjoy the 2 Record shops in Greenwich . Great video
@grahamallen9393 cheers! Rats was a great loss, but upsidedown is pretty good. Not quite like all those great shops up north, but like I said it's probably best not to have them too close or else I'd get too carried away!
Hi there love the channel. I'm from lewisham. Went to upside down records. Great shop .got 3 albums and not over priced. Cant wate to look at the record shops in north London .you recommended. Thanks
@paulfreeman5046 upside down has come up with some gems for me... great to have a decent spot close to home. Explore the north, there's some fantastic shops. Cheers!
This couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m in London Saturday. I tend to do Soho, have a few beers & then I’m incapable of branching out I’m determined to hit the E2 postcode Saturday so Atlantis sounds great. Then I can hit Flashback Shoreditch (which I’ve never been to)& World Of Echo..which is more post punk, but a lovely little shop, it also means I can hit up some bagels too! Thanks so much for this!
Perfect timing!... you might get sidetracked by all the trendy bars, but definitely head east... there's so many record shops there, they just appear like mushrooms after a night of heavy rain. I even found myself in one in an a remote industrial estate in Hackney Wick... it's crazy! Have a great visit.
When i was living in London my regular haunts included shops in Northfields, Ealing, Shades, Notting Hill Gate, Rebel Records, Sellanby in South Harrow, many not there anymore.
As a londoner I really enjoyed this video. great advise pay cash, and dont buy in soho. i visted upside down in deptford for the first time the other day, great selection, and good price.
@JB-tn6ty yes, it's pretty good and has come up with some great stuff for me lately. Since I've done this video I've come across a few other good places, so maybe a part 2 if I ever get round to it. Cheers!
Excellent stuff. I can confirm Rise Above well worth a visit, the best ones are always a little away from the main drag. The Crouch End Flashback also and I'm a fellow South Londoner. You have to schlep to get the best stuff!
@tidybear101 I think it's probably best that way. If I had one of those shops on my doorstep, it could end in disaster. And it's a nice way to explore the nooks and crannies of the city. Cheers!
Rhythm records was good, when I stayed in London mid 80s it was vinyl solution , record and tape exchange in Nottingham hill, vinyl experience, something zero near portobello road possibly Zero one records and another in Camden with half a motorcycle sticking out of the window
Good video. I don't get into London (I'm south) much these days. I remember Haggle Vinyl in Islington (long gone) and all the Hanway Street record shops sadly closed a few years back. I wonder if you know Arch Records (within the Sugahill café) on Sydenham Hill?
@brucevair-turnbull8082 yes I've been to sugarhill cafe a few times. Some good stuff there. There's a long list of long gone shops. It would be interesting to see a map of London's ghost records shops. Cheers!
@@melomano4145 One shop which resurrected itself is Revolution Records on Penge High St. I used to go in there in 1977 to look at all the punk singles. Two years ago it returned.
I would love to visit London and go record shopping(and also stop at a Pub) someday. Here in Los Angeles, Southern California there are too many record stores and record shows it can be a blessing or a curse because I spent lots of money $$$$$ !! ✌🎼🎶🎵
@johnmoreno96 I bet it's easy to get carried away... fortunately I don't have a shop right next door, but there are plenty of pubs, so you've given me a bright idea for this sunny evening. Cheers!
Great video. I will hit up all these stores next time i am visiting London. If you ever come to Stockholm where i live and are looking for rare Soul and Jazz. Visit Record Mania on the street where i live. It is amazing.
@@melomano4145 Yea they know what they have and what it is worth. So no bargins i guess. But i have found some real gems there over the years. It is a 2 min walk from my apartment. Dangerous indeed :)
The best area is probably Hackney in east London. There, you can find Eldica, Atlantis Records, Love Vinyl, Yoyo Records, and many more. They will have the things you like. I'm not sure of the exact addresses, but you can find them on Instagram or Google. The closest stations are Hoxton and Dalston Junction on the London Overground (the orange line), but it's even easier if you hire a bicycle to get from place to place. Hope that helps.

Hope you're back to full health Alan. Was wondering why you were closed.
Nice tips.
Curious, did you freuquent Cheepo Cheepo Records at all- closed in 2007.
Was my shop of choice back when I was a 'collector'.
I often go in to London from Kent. I've not been to some of those. Will definitely check those out at some point
@@waxwiresnwaves it's always great to explore... you never know what you might find

I do need to get down to London sometime soon. Thanks Lawrence for a great video of recommendations. 🙏
They're all well worth a visit and a good chance to get out of the typical postcard areas of London. Cheers!
I am going to visit London in October and will certainly follow your recommendations. Thanks.
@OD-bo5jq great places if you like something different, cheers!

Great selection of shops! Alan's just happens to my local so I have spent many an hour (and £!) in there. Little Record Shop is also incredible.

Back in the 80's, my favourite was Rhythm Records, in Camden. They had good folk, blues, rock & obscure vinyl.

Rise Above records in Highgate is a gem. Maybe not the cheapest but quality of stock wise, hard to beat.
