Im a photographer/digital artist, and I also switched from IPad Pro to the Mini. I absolutely love it for all the reasons you mentioned. Looking forward to an update, hopefully with improved speed, resolution. As for a sling, I use the Tomtok (medium one) I really love it. Perfect fit for my mini, accessories, iPhone, and even a water bottle.

Thanks to Chris Piascik and you, I made the jump to purchase the iPad Mini! And now my 4th generation iPad Air will be used as my at-home work iPad for my drawing projects! So glad i found this Video about someone who has similar experience. I used to have the ipad pro 11" (2018) but back in the days i didnt used it as much as i wanted to and also didnt brought it along with me whenever im traveling, as often as i have imagined although it was a good device for many years but i've finally gave it to my sister for study purposes. I have to assume you got a sling for it, but on the off chance you haven't or aren't happy with it (or anyone here with an iPad mini is looking for a recommendation) I got the Bellroy lite sling. The mini fits in with the pencil just fine (even in a somewhat bulkier case) and it's a snug enough fit that I'm not worried but I can still fit pretty much everything I'd need for a day out (iPad, phone, wallet, charging cable and brick, standard stuff). Next time convert your audio to mono, since youre moving your H1n so much, recorded sound goes everywhere, mono and some normalization should do the trick in post. Or simply record in mono in H1n and then normalize levels for audio to be constantly at the same level.

    • @WestonWoodfin

Those things would be awesome. However, the M1 is pretty overkill…most people will never use that much power on their iPad. The jelly scroll is only an issue if you are really looking for it. I hope the next mini gets these upgrades, don’t get me wrong. But I don’t think they should hold someone back from enjoying the Mini now.

I don’t think that’s true for everyone. The bigger iPads have their preferred use case, sure. But the Mini is something special as well. 11" screen is too big for a medium size iPad. I really don't like how big they are. I want a 9.7" or 10" iPad. I switched to a mini 2yrs ago (5th gen then 6th gen) coming out of the 10.5" iPad, and loved the mini size more, however this year during November deals i went for the M1 Pro 11" and been feeling like im forcing my self to use it and like it. It's not working and i may end up selling it due to it being to big to enjoy for my need and use.

The mini really does fall into a sweet spot for me when it comes to the size. I think often times people feel like they need to get the pro in order to do “pro” task, when really you should get the device that suits your workflow and lifestyle best. The iPad mini was that device for me. If they ever come out with an iPad Pro Mini, or a slightly more compact version of the Pro, I’d probably buy it in a heartbeat.

After these years, that's about all I have used the mini for (I don't game) Otherwise it sits in a drawer.
Since it is on it's last leg (but not dead) - I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out later this year.

Glad to hear you have gotten some good use from it! I am looking forward to seeing what the updated mini brings to the table!

Mini 7 will likely be just marginally better - which is fine by me.
Another good thing about iPads is they appear to have a longer usable life span. I've gone through several MacBooks (that have died or were severely throttled-:) in the same time I've had the iPad mini. The only issue with the Mini is the battery - but that is not a real issue for me - as I can have it pugged in for the most of what I use it for.

@@TerryManitoba The iPad is super over powered for what it is...almost all of them are able to last several years without needing to be replaced! Even if the 77 is only marginally better, it will be a great upgrade for you!

@@WestonWoodfin Agreed - the only reason I "need" to upgrade is that for 5 years now Apple has not been supporting my Mini 2. It still works great as a GPS (my primary use of the mini) but not so great for my other uses. As a result of Apple's software not being up to date - other App's software cannot be updated either.

True! However, when I made this video there was no word of it actually happening. Also, I work for a company as an editor. There is no way I’d be able to do everything I do on my computer in Premiere Pro on the iPad. It’s cool that Final Cut is coming to the iPad, don’t get me wrong. But I can almost guarantee is won’t be at a professional workflow tier just yet.

Lol, I got the 256gb iPad Pro 11' and I doubt I'll need to change to a mini given my intention is to use the iPad as a second screen, portable drawing tablet and 3d Modelling/sculpting tab
