I agree with everything this guy said. I just got an iPad mini a week ago and I am extremely pleased with it. I can do on it everything I can do on my iPad Pro 11. I’m here to tell you the mini is a small and powerful version of the iPad Air. As for the “jelly” scrolling, well I can’t see it. And besides, who the hell is reading content on the screen when you’re scrolling that fast anyway? I hear all these critics complain that the screen isn’t that good outdoors in direct sunlight. Well neither is my iPad Pro. Many of the reviews I’ve watched complain that when you use the keyboard in the landscape mode it takes up half the screen. Well guess what. My iPad Pro does the same thing. They complain that the quality of the screen is not that good. You kidding me? I find it just as clear and sharp as an iPad Air and my iPad Pro 11. The speakers sound just fine for a smaller device. The battery life is just about as good as my iPad Pro 11 simply because I don’t do any gaming and I close out any programs running in the background when I’m done using them. The mini is extremely portable and easy to hold and take notes. If I have any complaint, it would be that some of the text on some websites and on my widget page is a little tiny for my aging eyes. The general usability of the mini is so much better than the big and heavy pro. The iPad Mini 6 is the first mini that wasn’t gimped, in fact,it was actually better than the larger option (a15 chip vs a14) at launch! Back in the early days of iPad mini, this really put me off, because the size has always been perfect, so easy to grab and use for everyting, but the cut coners on specs and features put me off the first 4 models! 5 was the first that was acceptable spec-wise, and the 6 was actually incredible!
I have an iPad Pro 11” and I keep eyeing the mini, something about the portability keeps catching my attention. I have a feeling I might buy one soon to keep bedside
I had an iPad mini before! And I used it all the time! I bought the iPad Pro because my iPad mini got stolen! I really never liked carrying the iPad Pro because it was too heavy! So I bought a new iPad mini 6 generation!
I’m a supervisor and train behavioral health workers. The M1 12.9” iPad Pro allows me to multitask to monitor their work, conduct presentations, etc. with Stage Manager and use a projector as an external display.
I don’t think I use my pro to full potential but I’m a digital planner gal and have kids with special needs. My pro gets used daily. I have the mini to go with me as its portable. Love both devices.
A few years ago I’d think this was silly. My main use for my iPad Pro was laptop replacement which served me well for school, photo and video editing. I needed more eventually so purchased a MacBook Pro to be the main work horse as the iPad wasn’t really that laptop replacement I was looking for. Eventually the pro downgraded to a glorified media device and soon realized how annoying it was as it was a bit too big and heavy for this purpose alone. Decided to try the idea of using the mini and it is perfect for my needs. I don’t use it for photo or video editing as that’s not the purpose, however I did give it a test and it’s great, not the greatest for video but it works. Will be selling the pro at some point. Great video! 😊👍
Exactly the same experience I had. The pro is great for someone who will actually use it to its full extent. Otherwise, I’m happy with the base iPad or the mini
i did the same thing. i sold my 2020 cellular 11 inch pro in exchange for a starlight 256gb cellular mini. feels like the perfect complementary device to my iphone 13 pro. i do my video editing in VLLO and lumafusion on it, it does more than i could ever need to it to do. definitely didn't need the "pro" features of the pro. my mini goes with me everywhere!
Have been using the mini 6 since launch, but after iOS 16 came out wanted to try the new features on a pro. Just purchased an apple refurbished M1 iPad Pro which in my mind was much better value then the Air 5 or M2 pro and am very happy with it. Kept the mini as most points are valued (especially using as a kindle) but I do like the bigger screen on the pro and other feature (speakers etc) so now I fell I have the best of both worlds.
As a compelmentry device nothing beats this mini Size portable, battery life and all the other things you mention. For me best bang for the buck. I added the 256 ram just because I didn’t want to run out of space and these day you can’t upgrade memory like we use to on let’s say the older MacBooks I use this little device for almost everything way more than I use my m2 MacBook Air just because of its size and convenience
My original iPad is second generation so I waited a bit to upgrade. My original still works ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA , but the battery is bad and won't stay charged so it always has to be plugged into a power source. The new 10th generation was a great bargain for Prime Day that I couldn't pass up. It was easy enough to set up: everything came down from iCloud with no issues.
I'm totally in love with the Mini, but I keep wanting a Pro for some reason. I think most of the reasons pulling me to get a Pro are pure, irrational elitism, to be honest. I've tried to restrict myself to only reasons that I can ACTUALLY slot into my workflow, not just cool-sounding metrics. So far, that's storage size and screen size, nothing else that I can think of. I do a lot of amateur-level sketching, so it would be nice to have a big screen, but the 11" is about as much as I need. So maybe an Air. Dunno - I'll probably buy something later this year, but there's no rush. Not while I am so thoroughly pleased with my Mini!
Watching this on 12.9 1TB M1 iPad Pro with MagicKeyboard. It replaced my MacBook Pro after that killed itself. Yeah, Video editing is more than possible on that kinda iPad. I just don’t use it very often for that anymore, for some other reasons too. Light video, photo, text, numbers, pdf editing. UA-cam, Prime video, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, Newsreading. Surely the display and its size is nice to have, that full keyboard experience too. But its just overkill for what i do with it. And for note taking with or without pencil its simply not manageable. Size and weight is in the way. For transport from work to home and back on the daily too. And its just €3000 I’m carrying with me all the time, under the arm or in a bag. Nah, I’m going to get an iPad mini as soon as possible. The big one may stay at work as a primary till a MacBook/iMac is possible. But even for the occasional press-photos/-videos I have to edit and send from on the go the mini will be far enough. Much better even for its size and weight.
I don’t think you’ll go wrong with any ipad since they all are great. i personally have the 11 inch m2 ipad pro with 1tb of storage and cellular. I use it as my main editing and entertainment device and absolutely love it. I also have the magic keyboard I bought used off ebay. Paid $170 for it. I have over 200 movies stored on my ipad and I think the pros are the only ipads that give you more than 256gb of storage. Otherwise I probably would just get the air. I don’t and have never used a mac so I use my ipad pro to do all my editing videos on luma fusion while out on the road, which is why I have cellular.
I'm a digital artist and I use my ipad pro 12.9 every day. I also am learning korean so I have all my language textbooks on there and can take notes comfortably with split view, which I worry about with the ipad mini. I use procreate or clip studio paint nearly every day on it for drawing and animation. also use nomad for 3d sculpting. I generally keep it all on my ipad and might transfer it to my pc for other color tweaking to see on different screens. but recently I've been eyeing the mini for an ereader/entertainment device since honestly I use my pro at my desk or on some type of surface and hate holding up to read... haha I dont know if thats a good enough reason for me to get one for the price but the appeal of a mini is so good!
I have the Mini and a Pro. For your use, keep the Pro. The bigger screen is made for you. The Mini, you can take around and do touchups and read plus markup. It’s for on the go … but don’t mistake the size; it’s still an iPad, simply iPad power in your pocket.
@@ladyhollman9534 thanks for the info! I'm interested in seeing how more people own/use both. I couldn't fully get rid of my pro solely for the screen size and how I use it
I’m also a digital artist. I use the mini(5) as a sketchbook and brainstormer for ideas, an ipad 6 as a portable workhorse, and then my ipad pro stays at home and has more or less replaced my pc’s monitor tablet at this point. In short, rough sketches and design are done with the mini, and the actual cleanup is done on the ipad 6 on the go and on the pro at home. They all serve each purpose extremely well!
Interesting video, really made me give the mini a serious look for once. I love the form factor and how you share you put it to use. And since you asked... I have a 12.9 iPad Pro from 2020 with 256gb and use it daily as an Art Director/Illustrator/Designer. It's mainly the larger screen size along with the portability that make it a win for me. Procreate is open most of the time, but I also use it for admin and communications work as I draw, notate, and more. I also use Figma and some light video editing. I'd say, for my use case, it's irreplaceable-but it's not so much about power or features. The 11 and mini don't have the screen real estate I'd need to do what I do. And my Macbook obviously doesn't have touch/Pencil capability. So the fact that the Pro has larger screen + Pencil/touch + app access + power all combine to work best for me. Last thing: it really is a great media/content consumption tool, too. All that said, I realize that I'm in a small minority of iPad users and the Pro isn't for everyone.
I envy you being in a professional field where you need (and presumably have the skills to utilize) that much iPad power! Truly wish I could do that kind of work, but I'm stuck over here in MacBook land of keyboards and boring non-touch screens.
I've had a MacBook Air for about 8 years and just traded it in for an iPad Mini and an iPad Air tablet. I like them both too, but definitely use the Mini more than the iPad Air, all for what you said in your video, except for the gaming part. I'm not a gamer.
A breath of fresh air. I work in sales and just wanted a straight answer from a real person who didn't sound like a product whore or a contrarian for pay. Thanks for the real world explanation. Why so many people in this space act like weirdos with no life or overly ambitious/low talent/insight opportunist really is giving "tech" a bad name.
Currently using the 5th Gen Mini, and waiting for the 7th before I upgrade. Looking forward to losing the Touch ID (which I never liked), and gaining USB-C, plus whatever else Apple decides to 'give' us. It'll probably be overly expensive for its form factor but - having just upgraded to an iPhone 13 Mini - it's the size that meets my needs. Anything bigger might end up unused in a drawer. Thanks for the content.
Hi I’m new to the apple mini 6 ( came from 9th gen iPad ) I’m not gonna lie I’m really struggling with the size while watching videos but feels like a very large phone but overall pleased with it and can’t wait to explore more of its capabilities
i have the same ipads you do as well as a 2018 12,.9 pro. all are wonderful devices. i didnt need the m2 and shouldnt have bought it. i had the prev gen ipad mini and it was awesome too. i fall too easilly for the hype. i even had the ipad air 2 gen and it was still getting updates!anyway i agree with you on this.
There should be a Ipad Mini Pro or Ipad Mini 7 with M2/M3 chip in it (on par with next gen Ipad Air) Ipad Pro mini should have Oled screen , 16GB Ram and M2 or even M3 chip, face ID, and full spec camera on the back with Lidar etc. Regular Ipad mini should be on par with Ipad Air
Absolutely agree. I know Apple can do it. And nice and portable with great external monitor support. Think about how much smaller is the screen from a Samsung fold
@arkoverload I don’t understand the hatred for the tablet with some You tubers out there. Not everyone wants an M4 chip in a huge screen that will not fit in a pocket. Doctors and small plane pilots are two examples that spring to mind. This fits the gap between my iPhone 13 and my Mac. Plus, I get the chip for Apple Intelligence without having to pay more money to upgrade my phone.
Not sure about a conversation so here goes… the 12.9 iPad Pro will have you engaged for HOURS on end. I literally move back and forth to my iPhone simply because it is water resistant (peace of mind). I find my self moving around with the iPad Pro 12.9 in my hand and everything. The dang thing always appears glued to me. It charges quick so it’s never dead, and I pass a MacBook charger once every few days with light use. Let’s put it this way, if the iPad Pro 12.9 with magic keyboard was water resistance Apple better make sure it can work in zero gravity, survive contact with molten rock, and out dive the Mariana Trench because the 12.9 inch iPad Pro is so much more when compared to the mini. Piece 🛣️
I bought the 10th generation, but i want to trade it in for the ipad mini. Or should I trade it in for the ipad Air, because everyone's saying its the best for around its price. The ipad pro is too expensive. I also really love the size of the mini so I just need a opinion on a ipad.
I also just got the 10th generation and considering switching it to the mini but I think I might just leave it seeing as all iPads apparently has its own pros and cons and I don’t have any issue using it so far. It’s such a difficult decision to make 😢
@@aderonkenofiu8576 I actually had a 10th gen and switched it as soon as I got it to the mini lmao I do not regret my decision whatsoever bro i love the size of this thing its so perfect. btw the 10th gen ipad was great while it lasted just doesnt feel as good as the mini.
I have the pro but been considering getting a mini to take to work for keeping notes and going digital journal. I love the pro for school but the mini would be perfect for work
I feel like 120hz screen would drain the battery hahah. I’m looking into getting one of these, but not sure if I should wait for the next one. That’s if it comes out in September 😂but who knows
Mini 6 has a number of issues, including poor display and font scaling, declining battery life over time and mine overheats and loses wi-fi in hot and humid condition. Only things going for it are the form factor and performance.
I can’t speak for the mini….I’m watching this video because I’m thinking about buying one to serve as a more functional Kindle. I do have the cellular version of the 11” iPad Pro however. Depends on your use, like everything. I went cellular, because at the time I didn’t have internet at my home, or cable, etc etc. Any and all of the limited content I watched was done via my iPhone usually on UA-cam with occasion Netflix streaming. It made more sense to me to add an extra $10 data plan onto my phone bill than it did to pay $50+ per month for home internet. The small charge was also worth not having to hotspot my iPad to my phone anytime I wanted to use it. Likewise, when traveling (the other thing I bought the iPad for) I honestly don’t trust the security of public wifi. If I wanted my iPad to be useful in that regard it needed cellular. I finally broke down and got Wi-Fi at home. I’ll likely buy an iPad mini with cellular, switch the SIM card from my Pro to the Mini, and use my pro at home for photo editing while using the more handy/portable mini for activity outside the house. Likewise for data I’ll likely go for 256. It’s a reasonable increase in price (only $150), it can’t be expanded after the fact, it never hurts to have too much storage, higher storage models tend to “age” better, and if I ever sell it it’s a more attractive feature to have. Basically, “premium” models have more staying power and more flexibility than the basic versions. If all you’re doing is taking the iPad from home to work (if even that much) and you’re not doing anything critical/sensitive where you’re worried about data theft I’d probably stick with just the Wi-Fi though.
@@arkoverload the latest hardware is the only to support the hovering cursor which a lot of artist love and prefer from Wacom pen displays because of this feature. I personally prefer the pro or 12.9 for Drawing because they are sketchbook size. Though I am seriously considering picking up a mini iPad and mini phone so I have a much more portable drawing pad on the go. And then there would be zero need for a larger iPhone.
I just wish the iPad mini had a terrabyte storage I need storage because I’m a sailor and I go on deployments without receptions and download all my movies and the pros are the only ones with 2T storage
Thank you for such a thoughtful video. I'm better iPad Air 5 or iPad Mini 6 (both with 256 GB). I want to use the tablet for the reasons you express but also as part of a teleprompter to read a script and to then edit 1080 videos. Do you think it would be better with iPad Air 5 or would iPad Mini 6 be more than enough without any disadvantages? Thank you for helping me understand more what would be more convenient.

Enjoy your iPad mini. But please, for the love of God, stop making fun of those of us who need to use our larger iPad’s camera viewing finder to take pictures. We are NOT duffuses . We are people who, for whatever reason are using the camera on our very expensive devices that we paid for. I am afraid that people who, for want of a better reason have decided something is uncool to do, and don’t use what they paid for, are the ones who look rather like the fool…. Stop trying to be cool and use what you paid so much for.
My feeling exactly! So tired of ppl with their little inserts of how it's not appropriate to use the camera on this size or that size tablet. Kindly go f yourself I always think. How I use my device is none of of theirs or anyone else's business..and not using it just cos it's not as big as a phone..is simply idiotic.
I bought an iPad Mini Cellular 8 years ago. I do not browse with it - I'm an adult so I use my 14" laptop to browse and an Apple TV for viewing. After 8 years of ownership, I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following - with % used (give or take): Otherwise it sits in a drawer. #1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%) #2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%) #3 - as an eReader (4%) #4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%) Since it is on its last leg (but not dead) - I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out later this year. BTW I would 'NEVER" buy any bigger iPad as the Mini is simply a complimentary device.
The iPad lineup has always been solid, and in my opinion, there’s no real “duds” so using a link for the last 8 years is not a surprise to me. I’d argue that the convenience of browsing and watching content on one device supersedes a better experience on Apple TV (where I need to go to a dedicated room) or browse on a laptop. For me, my laptop is mainly for intensive tasks like video editing and audio production. The mini and iPad Pro are great for note taking, browsing, UA-cam and simple design like using canva.

i did the same thing. i sold my 2020 cellular 11 inch pro in exchange for a starlight 256gb cellular mini. feels like the perfect complementary device to my iphone 13 pro. i do my video editing in VLLO and lumafusion on it, it does more than i could ever need to it to do. definitely didn't need the "pro" features of the pro. my mini goes with me everywhere!
I use my iPad Pro 12.9 m2 daily to paint / draw but I also use my mini 6 daily for literally everything else like UA-cam, web browsing etc
Is 64 gigs enough for an ipad, if i just use it for netflix n present my presentations?
@@ichithgandhi8496 yes
Hey is the refresh rate negligible because pro have 120 and mini have 60 pls tell?? Which one should i go for pro m1 or mini 6
As a compelmentry device nothing beats this mini
Size portable, battery life and all the other things you mention. For me best bang for the buck. I added the 256 ram just because I didn’t want to run out of space and these day you can’t upgrade memory like we use to on let’s say the older MacBooks
I use this little device for almost everything way more than I use my m2 MacBook Air just because of its size and convenience
I totally agree with you, I purchased the 5G model and love it for the same reasons you explain.
Honestly this is one of the most thoughtful reviews I’ve watched! Thank you for translating all of “specs” to actual real world relatable usage.
Thank you for sharing!
I couldn't fully get rid of my pro solely for the screen size and how I use it
Agree
My iPad Air5 has M1 chipset .Great for video editing and heavy tasking not to mention multitasking.
Nice 👍
Correction: iPad mini 6 has 297 grams not 469 grams. So it’s just 60 grams heavier than the Magic Trackpad.
Great real world review.
We know the specs already.
Your use cases are relatable.
The ipad mini 6 is the best apple product, period.
The question is... buy an Ipad mini 6 now (in July 2024) or wait until October to see if Apple will release an Ipad mini 7?
There should be a Ipad Mini Pro or Ipad Mini 7 with M2/M3 chip in it (on par with next gen Ipad Air)
Ipad Pro mini should have Oled screen , 16GB Ram and M2 or even M3 chip, face ID, and full spec camera on the back with Lidar etc.
Regular Ipad mini should be on par with Ipad Air
Absolutely agree. I know Apple can do it. And nice and portable with great external monitor support. Think about how much smaller is the screen from a Samsung fold
Buying the mini 7 as an upgrade to my mini 4.
Boom.
You nail it bro , ❤ I would love to hear your opinion on the surface pro
I wish the iPad mini had a magic folio case. it's sooo close to being perfect
That’s funny how he started. It’s like booking a reservation at a hotel and the clerk immediately says we don’t have roaches in our hotel. 😂😂😂
When do you think the ipad mini 7 will be out?
What case is that ?
Piece 🛣️
64 or 256, what would you recommend? Primary use case is heavy note taking and browing
Then I’d go 64 if you’re budget conscious like I am. However it never hurts to have more space
I love my mini 6 ❤️ mini gang!
Great Vid as always, where'd you get your case from for the mini?

@@arkoverload Much Appreciated. Continue Being Great.
I really like it for what it is and I don’t notice the 60hz at all
Mini 6 has a number of issues, including poor display and font scaling, declining battery life over time and mine overheats and loses wi-fi in hot and humid condition. Only things going for it are the form factor and performance.
Loses wifi in hot and humid condition?? You are clearly not a mini user, cus i'm a mini 6 user and I have never lost wifi in hot and humid conditions
Same here, defective battery?
thinking of buying also the ipad mini 6 which one i should get wifi or the cellular? is cellular worth it?
I’ve never bought a cellular version of an iPad so i don’t know if it’s worth it or not
I can’t speak for the mini….I’m watching this video because I’m thinking about buying one to serve as a more functional Kindle.
Lte is more convenient when out of house
Excellent points
Thanks!
which case do u use on ur iPad mini?
It’s a REAL tablet, it’s cheap, and it’s small. It does everything you would want a TABLET to do. It’s also very powerful for what it is.
Blud that’s not even the M1 n yeah I read the description
I want one more to put in my car that would be dope
i hope they add 120hz support to the new ipad mini 7
iPad pros primarily are best for artists
It’s the first real artist focused device from apple in over a decade.
That’s awesome - do you have some examples you can share on how you use it?

Nice but no amoled
Enjoy your iPad mini. But please, for the love of God, stop making fun of those of us who need to use our larger iPad’s camera viewing finder to take pictures. We are NOT duffuses . We are people who, for whatever reason
are using the camera on our very expensive devices that we paid for.
#1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%)
#2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%)
#3 - as an eReader (4%)
#4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%)
Since it is on its last leg (but not dead) - I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out later this year.
@@arkoverload Fair enough. We all have different Work Flows, different requirements from our tech & what we deem important & end up prioritizing....
