I found the iPad mini in the gutter, I picked it up with the tip of my Apple Pencil and cleaned it, and place it atop my own hand.

I always hated the mini line until mini 6 came out. That became my go to iPad, leaving my iPad Pro to collect dust. I carried my Mini 6 everywhere for over two years, and I am now upgraded to Mini A17Pro. I have been using iPads exclusively since iPad #1 came out and I know what I like.

I think the iPad mini (A17 Pro) is an unfortunate victim of cancel culture. I have watched COUNTLESS (pre)review videos while waiting for it on the 23rd and since I got it in my hands. As I have the iPad Pro and the iPhone 16PM, the mini fits right into my family of devices. So, my question is: Are there any POSITIVE videos for this iPad? I mean, coming from a fading iPad mini 5 with a trade-in value of $180, this new mini was worth every penny.

The iPad mini is a niche product so that could be why for more negative reviews, it is a smaller weaker (in terms of the chip) iPad Air, but it’s hard to compare the mini to the other iPads because the usage of it is going to be way different to people specifically in the market for it

Agree! After I got my mini 7, I don’t wanna touch my 11’ iPad Pro that has pro motion, better screen and whatsoever.. it’s more about the user experience, if you want have a better gaming experience, just buy the pro version!! Why bitching about this mini 7 while it is selling the form factor, not the pro function 🤷🤦‍♂️

I have the mini 6 and have been waiting to upgrade it because I use it every day, but I feel like the update is too small to justify upgrading. I just decided to try out an M2 Air 11” because I do need a new iPad with more power.

@@Bifragura Mini is selling for the form factor, it’s not replaceable by 11’ or 13’ and why does mini need to be that powerful? Are you making a movie with your mini? They are two different things and provide different user experiences. The update is too small??? 128gb base model, 8 gb ram and A17 pro chips selling for almost same price as your mini 6??? We are talking about Apple Intelligence bro…

@@Ai-JayI agree I use my I mean love my iPad 6 mini over all my other devices as soon as I enter my house I grab it I leave my phone alone until the next day. But however they could have given it 120 refresh rate at least I wouldn’t of mind paying extra for that I would actually pay for that more than the 512 storage or if not the refresh rate and over that screen that’s all so it’s hard to say if it’s good or bad even though I have the 6 I’m still get the seven because I do love the mini and I really can’t see myself without it

The 2027 iPad mini 8 will probably get an OLED screen, thinner bezels & face ID. But for now, the iPad mini 7 is a decent update. And if you’re coming from an iPad mini 5 like me, it’s a HUGE update!

Yes, if you are an iPad mini user and know why you bought it, that is great. I know that if it came with OLED/120Hz/M4 at $700-800, I would not buy it. At $500, Apple knows its target audience (business, enterprise) and has built a product for the price, not for the techie YT bubble.

I bought one….watching this on it in fact…
    I had a 128 gig mini 4. People spent 499.00 for a mini 6 with 64 gig. There was a 150.00 difference between that and 256 gig.
On the new I pad there is a 100.00 difference.
I bought the 256 gig as I plan to have this iPad a long time. My 128 gig mini 4 lasted 9 years. With AI, you don't know how much memory the other apps are going to eat up so you are covered in that regard.

I am an advocate of the iPad mini and as I predicted, it is snappier like going from the iPhone 15 to the 16. I completely agree with everything you said about the display and your description of this being a third device is bang on.

    • @randomterror7
      @randomterror7 3 місяці тому +3

Very little incentive for Apple to change that for iPad mini because the mini has no competition (Android doesn’t offer anything decent at this size). So it’s either u take it or you have no other choice.

I use mine in a rugged waterproof case which covers the bezels, so I think your point is moot. Ideal for use in the car, travelling, hiking, and walking. As these are mainly for businesses, the aesthetics are not important for the core market. If you want pretty bezels then buy another 8-inch device if you can find one.

  • @gamhacked
    @gamhacked 3 місяці тому +3

I appreciate your level-headed take. Too many reviewers try too closely to compare this model to its predecessor, and too few prospective buyers appreciate the benefits of a device that doesn't change much from generation to generation. Keep your devices around longer and, while using them, focus on the tasks you're using them for and not on the device itself and you will be happier.
I'm as miffed about the display as anyone because just about every other display I own runs at 120 Hz or greater, but I'm a realist. Give this a 120 Hz OLED and you increase the sales price by $100 or more, discouraging a vast swathe of the silent majority from buying who care more about the price than about the display.
Another thing about displays -- there is no perfect display, and there never will be. Not even your eyes or brain -- the final output devices in the chain of vision -- will ever be perfect, and they will only continue to worsen as you age. I realized in the pursuit of the perfect display that...
    - LCDs are cheap, predictable, and responsive but washed out. IPS improves the latter aspect over TN.
    - VA displays feature better contrast, but might produce a headache for being less responsive and show heavy discoloration when viewed at an angle.
    - CRTs have blazing response times, great colors, and the unique vignette of scan lines, but their green phosphors decay slowly, producing a smeared afterimage.
    - OLEDs give near-instant response times and a virtually true black, but are dimmer and might suffer from the mura effect. Though a feature of our visual system and not of OLEDs, haloing will appear around bright objects on a dark background.
    - Mini LED displays are brighter than OLEDs, but their few dimming zones will produce an uneven set of gray-black tones and a watercolor effect in demanding scenes.
For all their shortcomings, LCDs really aren't that bad, discounting 'jelly scrolling'.

Contrary to previous iPads that I owned, I intend to keep it simple, many apps I already use on a regular basis on the iPhone will not be downloaded here. And the plus is that, it is the most affordable Apple device with access to Apple Intelligence. So let’s enjoy what it is. We can upgrade in two … years time. ❤

Appreciate your honesty. My only wish is rotation cannot be set - when reclining or lying down (and working with patients/clients with limited/unstable movements) the rotation auto goes from portrait to landscape constantly and is frustrating. The original iPad I remember I could set the rotation to not have it rotate. Tim needs to talk to ME! and put this back in the iPad. Also, I should be able to turn on or off the auto shaping when pausing my pencil when taking notes - my irregular line should remain so and not go to a straighten line when I don't want it to (I'm note taking a resting my pen! - I don't need an auto shape change!).

The iPad Mini 7 is the best entry level product that Apple has announced in the last few years. My reason for saying this is because it has a usable 128 GB of flash memory. Most £150 entry level Android phones come with 128 Gb of flash memory but Apples entry level £429 iPhone SE 5G only comes with 64 Gb of flash memory with very expensive flash memory upgrades.
I am a PC gamer and I paid £200 for a 2 Tb SSD eighteen months ago and paid £200 for a 4 Tb faster SSD recently. Moore's law is therefore still a real thing and Apple should similarly be doubling the flash memory in entry level Macs and iPhones every 18 months with no increase in cost.

As for the display on it. I’ve had both the iPad mini 5 and 6, and all around I actually enjoy the display of the 5th gen one more, especially having that extra screen space (top to bottom) when using it in landscape orientation. More comfortable to hold. Only thing is it’s getting dated and a little slow, but for everything a mini does, the 5th gen is still good enough. I am starting to think apple is intensionally sabataging the mini lineup. Like hmmm, maybe if they actually updated it and made it a nicer device than people would buy it more often, but apple’s mentallity is like “oh the sale for this device aren’t great, we should care less about it” its so bass-ackwards.

I was looking for an iPad, compared and watched different UA-cam videos, compared data on the web and researched which one would suit me, and decided that I would also buy the new iPad mini 17 pro. And then I still decided that I wouldn't buy it, that I would still go from the countryside to the capital and see with my own eyes and try it. It's good that I finally went, because yes, the iPad mini is a very nice size and seemed capable, but it has a terribly dark screen, dark and somehow like a dim one, True Tone was off and it was on maximum brightness and still a terribly dark screen, such a dim screen and my eyes had to strain all the time and got strained because the screen was very bad to look at and I decided not to buy the iPad mini 17 pro, gen 7. In the meantime, I went to other stores to let my eyes look at something else and rest and in another store I also tried, looked, touched the iPad mini, the same there, still such a dull screen, dim screen and I went back to another store and tried again, still the same, too dark screen and dim screen is the iPad mini 17 pro gen 7, but of course that's for my eyes and I also wear glasses. I researched in stores and tried the iPad Air, also with a too dark screen and it didn't feel smooth or pleasant to look at or touch, the brightness is also very low on the Air, although a little brighter than on the mini, because the screen is larger on the Air, and I also tried the iPad pro M4 and bought the iPad pro 11 M4 instead and I felt the tension in my eyes disappear, my eyes immediately relaxed with this screen and it will be usable for many years.

I’m thinking thinner bezels on this one making it 8.5in OLED, ProMotion, FaceID, starting at 128G. $699-$799 🤔 The PRO 11inch used to start at $799, so to have a really portable PRO version would be great! Maybe it’s just me, but I think it might just be the BEST tablet Apple makes. 😎

Even though the refresh is underwhelming, the iPad mini is still better than the iPhone for two main reasons.
    1. Multitasking
    2. Apple Pencil support
Let's be honest, the iPad mini and Galaxy S Ultra are the perfect combo if you use both iPadOS and Android.

The display is definitely the worst thing about the new iPad mini. Although, personally, the main thing that annoys me the most about the new iPad mini, and the M2 iPad Air as well, is the fact they still use Touch ID. For years, Apple has adopted Face ID across the entire iPhone lineup, apart from the SE, and even that phone is expected to get it by next year. However, Face ID is still only a “Pro” feature despite being on iPads for 6 years now. Apple never branded Face ID as a Pro feature unlike 120 hz ProMotion. So why is Apple still keeping Face ID only at the pros?

    • @andyH_England

Apple does not make IPS displays with Face ID, only OLED and miniLED, so it would be too expensive to start making them for the Air and Mini as both are low-volume models (mini

@@andyH_England With all due respect, but I don't buy that argument at all. Supply chain efficiency would actually be better if Apple brought Face ID and ProMotion to at least the iPad Air (considering the Air and Pro have the same screen sizes). It's the reason why the cheaper iPads eventually got the same chassis design that the iPad Pros had for years. Keeping ProMotion and Face ID as pro hardware features is solely just to distinguish the feature differences between the pro and non pro models.

Apple is a massively successful company. It is hugely popular and rich. But, it seems like they've stopped really trying to be more. Other companies are going flat out to be better than them, but Apple just sits back and relies on it's reputation. I think the form factor of ipad mini is the only device that is genunely a tablet and fills in the gap between a phone and laptop. The bigger i pads are tablets that tries to be a laptop and eventually loose the characteristic of a tablet. In fact Ipad pro should have a mini vesrion. Also, there are many alternatives to all ipads but there is hardly one for the mini. Realy pitty that smaller tablets are made smaller to make it cheap rather than for the convenience.

Buy a Samsung 8-inch OLED 120Hz thin one, then! Or, you may see that 8-inch tablets are in their final decline as phones get larger and folds take up space. Samsung, does not make one, nor most rivals, because there is no money in it. Apple knows this, hence the three-year upgrade cycle. They could have easily ended this, but gave it one last throw of the dice, but could not afford big changes as it sells less than 5 million units a year (80 million plus in launch year).
