Real World Example: 7-Point Turn using Touch Screen in Tesla Model 3

- The gear selection in the new Tesla Model 3 is all done on the touch screen, and is actually pretty intuitive. After driving the car for 1 week, I've come to really like it-here's an example of a tight 7 point turn, swiping up and down for forward and reverse.

Interesting how 7 times your eye concentration went from looking at the surroundings to the screen and back. I do the same manoeuvre in my "stalk" Model Y and not once does my concentration leave the surroundings.
Exactly!
It doesn’t really work when your surroundings are being comprehensively reflected on the screen 👍🏻👍🏻
But he’d be looking at the screen anyway when reversing because of the reverse camera
He's looking at the backup screen everytime he looks down, I would do the same with/without stalks
wasn't breaking concentration if he was checking the rear cam the whole time lol
I test drove the new model 3 last week. This was far easier than i expected and incredibly smooth on the screen, i never had any miss-touches.
Same! 😍
Same! 😍
I could feel my stress levels rising just by watching you do this 7 point turn.
Thanks so much Ryan mate! As you can imagine, for the grandparents, the gears on the screen and indicators on the steering wheel are quite something to get used to, but they are adapting very easily! The indicators haven't been an issue apart from trying to indicate with the steering wheel already turned. Luckily they are pretty good with tech, so the Tesla is a lot to learn, constant questions from them on my behalf, but for 73+ it is quite impressive! Have a great day!
Thank you for making this video. This was a my biggest concern with stockless Teslas.
I AMAZING see having it on the screen is not problem!
dude had to remove his hands from the steering wheel like 7 times LMAO stalks is way easier
please stop dickriding a cost cut elon wont take you out to dinner
@@rohanjosem It is just easier because UP to drive and down to reverse
@@Aarav_Vispute and what was wrong with the stalk system which was easier and faster and you didn't have to come to look at the screen? it's the same thing as the Mercedes gear shifter keep coping tho you gotta remove your hand from the wheel and touch the screen multiple times and all I have to do is slightly move my finger. the level of cope you tesla fanboys have for a company is beyond me but okay
Love how you not even get slightly close to the back curb
About 10x easier to do with the stalk… I’m afraid this should be relegated to the same bin as the yolk.. tried it, good idea in the lab.. poor idea in the real world
Personally, I like stalkless and wish my 2023 MY LR had it. I especially like the turn signals on the steering wheel.
Valid video considering the turning circle. Its only just over a metre more than my present car but gee you notice it when trying to do a u-turn. It'll be interesting to see if suspension changes in the new Y will have any improvement on that?
By just watching that my left arm got sore 😂
I really like it. And when do you actually do a 7 point turn ? 😂 I just did this for the video to demonstrate and it was super natural and easy.
Hi Ryan, the new model doesn't have USS. Would you still recommend?
Yep, would still recommend new model.@@beardedfaisal
Would you wait for new model Y or buy the current one ?
That's a workout 😂
Honestly very easy it seems. Would take a month to get as good at the stalk I think.
This is what Tesla should have done.
1 leave the stocks right where they were
2 add this function
3 let people decide how they want to drive
4 problems solved
The same with the horn. If they wanted to put it as a button they could have also left it on the center
Tesla this ain’t rocket science
Thing is though, you could say that about loads of things in the car and eventually it adds up to additional cost and confusion.
The smudge marks on the screen would annoy me! Still happy with my stalks on MY however, as most have said, I would get used to the new version.
Such a hard no. There was nothing wrong with having the stalks - the car was minimal enough as it was.
👍
Stalks are still easier. Its still a mistake they dropped them
Sorry Ryan but that looks like a massive pain in the arse. If I'm performing a 3 or 5 point turn in a real road I'm not taking my hand off the steering wheel to swipe a screen mate. The old wheel lever up/down is 10 times more intuitive and safer...albeit now up is forward not backward which is even weirder/harder or original stalk options are the wrong way around. Up forward, down back...obvs !!!
After driving the 3 for a week and getting back in my Y (with stalks), I prefer Tesla's approach in the new 3 to be honest-and I was expecting to like stalks more.
Stalks are still easier since I can just extend my fingers out to bump the stalk while keeping both hands on the wheel.
One day you're gonna get touch screen lag while trying to change gears, and at the same time your windshield wipers will be going max ass speed because it's sunny outside lol
#teslasimplification
This would be so very annoying for me. I'm glad I have stalks.
If this is the way Tesla is headed for their cars, then my Model Y will be the last Tesla I own. This was just ridiculous!
Its supposed to Be a 3 point turn!!
I feel tired...
Imagine getting a cramp
