  • Following up from the Track & Field JAMMA cab project; I am now looking to install the 412 in 1 vertical Game Elf board in my original Ms.Pac-Man cabinet.
    I show you how it all goes together and learn a few things along the way. Will it all go to plan and be a 5 minute job?.....Of course not!

    That monitor is actually a wells-gardner K4900.

    That was most certainly a journey and half but you got there in the end! The Game Elf is worth having over the 60-in-1 most certainly as there are some quite nice games on it. Didn''t even think about the Ms Pacman only have a four direction stick, but yeah bit of a bigger change to swap out the panel.

      electricadventures thanks for watching Tony. It was a journey for sure but really didn’t need to be as long once I figured out the issue. The Game Elf has some decent games on it for sure. The 4 way stick is an issue for all shooters other than Galaga I believe. Not sure what I will do long term but I’m enjoying the variety of other games to play at the moment.

    Glad you got it sorted. Interesting video I learned a lot. I do agree with others that it is a bit backwards when you have an imported dedicated machine and a jamma cab to use the dedicated for the game elf. But it is your set up and no one else's, so what ever fits for you is all that matters. It is making me want a Ms Pacman cab though.

      Anthony Rayment thanks for watching and glad you found it interesting. I totally understand where your coming from; and trust me it was a decision I took lightly. If you have watched me for some time you would know that I like originality. However I really wanted to have a ‘dedicated’ Track & Field cabinet that I could leave that newly acquired PCB housed in. I only did the work on Ms.Pac as it wasn’t too intrusive and can be reversed in a few minutes. I’m not ruling out selling Ms.Pac or the Jamma cab one day; especially if a nice original Track & Field became available. But I am more than happy to keep my own T&F creation if that’s how things worked out. Appreciate your feedback 👍🏼

      If I ever see anything track and field come up I will let you know. I am just getting into the hobby and uk-vac. You and Nintendo Arcade have been a great source of inspiration

    Jesus, that was an epic. I recall having similar issues getting a gameelf working in my Atomiswave, damn them!

      Thanks for watching! Haha yeah it was far more epic than it needed to be. I don’t know why those units require so much adjustment outside of ‘normal’ parameters either.

    Interesting video Dave. One drawback to those multi-carts is the lack of high score saving although I believe this can be achieved by making changes to the SD card image.

    • @caprilaser3
      @caprilaser3  5 років тому

      StuTheRetroGamer thanks for watching! Yeah the lack of high score saves is a bit annoying to be honest. Although I believe it does actually save the high score but not the initials of the player which is just stupid.

      I thought that was only the case on the 60 in 1 boards whereas the Game Elf and Pandora's Box don't save the score or name. If you know anyone that's good with Linux they could probably sort yours quite easily though.

    Phew got there in The End Dave, love these videos mate what’s your next project

    • @caprilaser3
      @caprilaser3  5 років тому

      SEGA Zombie cheers Scott. Yeah it was a bit long winded for a relatively simple fix. But it’s all about learning i suppose. I’ve just bought another board so next project is just around the corner 😜 Keep an eye out mate. Good luck with the move tomorrow too mate.

    But how can I install more buttons to play vertical games that require three buttons. All you are playing is none buttons games. 🤔

    I had that scrolling happened to me and had to adjust a pot to get it just right. It was a pain.

    Good that you figured it out Dave! surely its a "waste" of Ms PacMan cab though to have it as is what is effectively a Jamma cab? sell MsP and get a jamma?

    • @caprilaser3
      @caprilaser3  5 років тому

      TootyUk thanks for watching Stu. Yeah I’m glad i worked it out in the end too.
      I understand what your saying mate and trust me it was a decision I didn’t take lightly. You know how I like to keep things as original as possible so this was a real test for me.
      I only did it as it was very non invasive and I can connect the original board back up in 3 mins to make it original again.
      My Mrs loves Tetris and likes Ms.Pac too. I like a few games in the Game Elf too so thought I would try this ‘conversion’ out and see how we get on.
      If I sold Ms.Pac I wouldn’t get a Jamma cab. I would most likely get another dedicated.
      I might end up keeping Ms.Pac and taking the game elf out if me and the Mrs get bored of it. Have a great time at BP 👍🏼

    The negative that you had drilled out on the 412 in 1 board a mandatory step to make this work properly?

    There is a sound at 5:34 in the video that is clearly coming from the electronics. It's so bad I can't finish watching the video because of the sound. It's giving me a headache. You probably can't hear it. I'm relatively young. It may be out of your hearing range.

  • @Asteroids-i8h
    @Asteroids-i8h 5 років тому

    Great job Dave, but how frustrating!. Been through a similar issue with my 60in1. What's the sound like on the Elf? It's very crunchy on my 60in1 for about 40% of the games.

    • @caprilaser3
      @caprilaser3  5 років тому

      Tim Watson thanks for watching. Yeah it was a bit frustrating but can’t believe it was a simple fix in the end. The sound is off and very inconsistent at which level it’s on per game. Some games sound far too loud and others are quiet. It’s a case of just getting a balance that you can tolerate.
      If the games have really bad sound or awful controls I have hidden them from the menu so I don’t waste time scanning through them.
      To be fair I only play a few games on the remaining list anyway.
