    I'm all about keeping a classic game original, but lately since it's been a real pain finding cabinets and pcbs without spending tons of money, I've found new love for these 60-1 pcbs. Just converted Ms Pacman that had a flaky pcb and hacked wires to jamma and 60-1. Will lock down to only play Midway games. Got a Centipede that had a dead pcb. Now with the jamma pcb to Centipede cabinet adapter, the 60-1 (locked down to Millipede and Centipede) plays perfect with original wiring, even the trackball plays perfect. Great video!

    I have this board in a bartop machine. And I’ve not experienced the sound problem as mine has volume control. The Pacman and galaxian is set up wrong as in lives. I accessed the main set up and corrected that now. But I personally think this is the best board so far in my experience. I’ve a retro pi and pandora box’s but for me this board mostly has the classics for me as I’m mid 50’s and grew up with the originals

    Great review! I love this little board... I just wish it saved the scores AND names, not just the top score (and no name). You are correct... Sound is messed up on about 6 games and the continue game feature doesn't work on all games (particularly Arkanoid). All-in-all it's a great little board, especially for the cost.

    Only definitely plan on getting one of these boards for myself. I definitely think this board is worth it and I can see why many operators and different establishments have bought a 60 in 1. My main problem with this board despite it being worth it is the fact that Rally X is flat out broken. It’s meant for horizontal monitors not vertical monitors. Even if the picture was somewhat skinny. That wouldn’t be too much of an issue but the game is just flat out broken. kind of wish that this was mentioned but anyways good review.

    So, fun fact about “Burger Time.” That high pitched “squeal” actually WAS part of the original arcade game, but it was buried MUCH lower in the sound mix. It was not nearly as audible. No idea why they mixed the sound this way on the rom. It sounds distracting and annoying here.

    Thanks for the video. I happen to get my hands on a 60n1 from a place that, unfortunately, had to close down due to CV-19. But I got the cabinet for $500. Couldn’t pass it up. I wanted to make mention that you may want to do a follow up on is about the sound. I had to add a potentiometer (500 resistance) and mounted it on the underside of the control deck. Now I can play when the family is asleep. 😉 I like your idea of adding a button to the Test leads. That is a tremendous help to the alternative. Thanks for that. Question, though, when you play Centipede, 2 players, is the two player screen mirrored? For instance, the centipede’s eyes are on the back of the first segment, the points displayed when killing the spider are reversed (003, 006, 009, instead of 300, 600, 900)? I noticed that on mine. I haven’t found ANYONE on any video mentioning about that. I’d like to hear your input on it, is it just mine or if there is a way to fix it or we just live with it. Thanks.

    you mean CRT monitor, a CGA monitor only has 4 colors, which the old IBM PC computers used before EGA and VGA.

    • @8bitredcat
      @8bitredcat  4 роки тому

      rabidmarmot I mean CGA CRT. Most all retro arcade cabinets had CGA CRTs. Later games moved to VGA. If you look up the 60in1 or any JAMMA board you’ll see outputs for CGA and VGA. A CGA monitor can display 16 colors but most PC modes only offered a 4 color palette. However there are a bunch of tricks that can be done to get more than just 16 colors. Tbh I’m not sure how arcade cabinets implemented color and graphics on a CGA monitor and assumed that CGA couldn’t be right as I’m also used to black, white, cyan, and magenta PC games. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_Graphics_Adapter

    Hi everyone,
    a doubt: in the motherboard there is a vga output with CGA and VGA resolution; but can it be connected to a cathode ray tube monitor? If yes, what are the links to use? Are those of the jamma comb? Thank you very much for the clarifications. W the 80s games, my siblings were always at the bar to see others play, hahahaha

    • @8bitredcat
      @8bitredcat  5 років тому

      Mary Elisabeth there is vga and cga connectors. VGA has a dedicated 15 pin din connector (standard port). Cga goes out via a 4 pin molex connector. (Nope, wrong. Molex = power). Either can go to a crt if the crt supports vga or cga. Or the vga output could go to an lcd.

    • @Daniele_Lampis

      @@8bitredcat Dear 8bit,
      in fact, my brother confirms to me that the 4-pin molex connector is used to power the 60 in 1 card through a pc power supply with its own molex connection.

    Is there any way to continue in gun.smoke and 1943? When I coin up it just adds credits to the main menu. If they don't continue I may just hide them.

      Big Blanski I think so, but I recall it being confusing. I feel like it takes you back to the main menu and you can reselect the game which will continue with the counter still in progress? Or maybe that was just arkanoid

      I picked red, green, and blue buttons for (what should be) obvious reasons. The red button would be your primary (jump for donkey Kong), green for secondary (bombs in 1941). Gun smoke is the only game that requires all three buttons (iirc).

    Great review. After I watched this I purchased a 60 in 1 kit and a 3 inch track ball from Paradise Arcade Shop, and a dedicated Happ dedicated 4 way from Ebay.
    Had Coin Ops original set up in a Space Invader Cabinet that I found in the trash with an X-Arcade controller and XBox. Unfortunately the hard drive crashed. Pretty bad regarding 4 way game play.
    Bought two two player Pandora’s Box 20s 3D WiFi’s on Ebay. Set one for 4 way to play older arcade games and one set for 8 Way to infinity for fighting. With the upgraded Sanwa JLFs it plays pretty good on the 4 way gate. However lacks the proper feel for PAC, DK, etc.
    Growing up in the late 70s and early 80’s is a blessing and a curse regarding arcade.
    After playing the originals believe the only way to get close to the feel is by doing the full 60 in one set up with a track ball.
    Not knocking it but personally not interested in 1st Up. Cabinets don’t have dimensions for comfortable game play. However I do think it does reach those who don’t have the space.
    We will see how the 60 in on for the Space Invaders Cab goes.

    The Donkey Kong on these isn't very good. The colours are a bit off (girders are red rather than pink) and the sound isn't quite right (the notes don't fade out as nicely as on the original arcade but sound clipped). And the picture is generally a bit fuzzy. It's strange because that fuzziness doesn't seem to happen in the other games.

    My biggest bummer with this 60 n 1 is the really poor graphics on some of the games. Games like Galaga 3 and Gyrrus, for example, look really blocky. To the point that it distorts the image and looks nothing like the original. Other games look better but not good enough IMHO
