- How Crazy is it, that Ms. Pac Man and Galaga were such big Arcade games, that they released a 20th anniversary edition of the games.... but that 20th anniversary edition Arcade Cabinet is now 22 years old???!!!!????
So it is now older than Ms. Pac-Man was when it was released, they all need repair now too.

For those that are not aware, he mentioned you can access the original Pac-Man on this cabinet too. Here is the code to do so.
From the "Press Start" screen, move the joystick in this pattern. U, U, U, D, D, D, L, R, L, R, L. If done correctly you will hear the free man chime and the red ghost monster will turn pink. Finally, press start.
There is also another code to toggle the speed chip temporarily. If the operator turned it off on default, entering the code will turn it on. If the operator turned it on, entering this code will turn it off. L, R, L, R, U, U, U, FIRE. If done correctly, you will hear the eaten fruit sound.
Nice to see someone who really knows how arcades work.
Several years ago I received a Namco multi arcade game that plugs into a TV. It had Ms Pacman, Galaga, Xevious, Pole Position and Mappy. My nephew would brag he could beat me at any video game, so I'd bring it out and teach him a lesson.
$300-500 would be fair broad market value for that repair. $100 an hour for the technician, and the rest for parts and overhead. Billing a college brings it up to $1500. We have to get those kid's money back; but jokes aside, that would be fair value in that sector of the market. ;)
Looks good Joe..i tried telling you it was, but as you say, its like talking to yourself😊
Same here, I was yelling
@@FoxfatherracingHaha
I was trying to help Joe too. I don’t think he heard me either.
I'm very cool with shorter repairs. I like to see ANY repairs that are common issues or something that can be fixed pretty easily as it helps with knowing what to look out for. I've got a pinball at home and you've taught me so many little tips and tricks that have helped me so the more the merrier!
Great video, Joe. I’d guess that a repair like this would cost $250-$300.
this is work for a college or a university. repair delivery? Thats a $1500 bill easy.
I think that was great. You did great. I never mind what size the screen was and didnt continue as if I got to that stage It was just going to swallow more coins. Great job on it. 👍👍🔧🔧🔧🔧. Bob.
The Class of 81: Ms Pac-Man/Galaga arcade cabinet is easily one of the most common arcade cabinets I always see and play at almost every movie theater, pizza parlor, laundry mat, and a few Mexican restaurants I've come across it at.
I know it's Galaxy!! Hahahahahahaha I almost choked on my coffee
As a former op...woof...you hit that right on the head, Joe. Seriously, customers used to ignore the Out of Order signs...even if they were covering the coin slots and the machines were turned off!
I used to switch the machines back on and see what was wrong with them. Obviously, being 10 years old at the time I wouldn't know where to start fixing them. I just liked to see the self-test errors that you normally wouldn't see otherwise!
@@mercuryvapoury Yeah, I get that, though of course many games (mostly of the redemption variety) don't have a power switch, so they get unplugged instead. As for why a place might leave an Out of Order machine on the floor, they either don't have the space in the tech room/zone (if they have one) or it's not worth the hassle to cart a machine off the floor to replace a single part that's on order. If I was an owner/manager, I'm not sending my guys out to remove a 242 pound Pinbot machine just so the tech can replace the right flipper switch or button housing, for example.
I have said it enough times, so I think you know I enjoy your videos. You are my favorite UA-cam channel, so thank you. I really do appreciate what you do.
These are great repairs. Keep them coming.
YESS! Arcade machine repair! I love these even if they're short. I also love pinball repairs if they're the newer modern kinds but i like all the videos you do. I think a repair like this is $250 easy, could go up some too maybe even $300. CRTs are like niche fragile things that are complex and dangerous to work on, you should be paid well for it! I don't think a 25 inch hurts Galaga and Ms. Pacman but I think the 19 is just better, imo. I use continues a lot because i don't really think it's "cheating", how is a built-in game feature that costs money cheating? It's just about having fun imo. Anyway, great video! Hope to see more soon!!
Thanks for watching!
Going for a double ship on Galaga might make it easier to die faster, but it also makes getting a perfect bonus on challenging stages a little easier.
Just gone 430am Wednesday here..i enjoy all content on this channel:) whatever you guys post i will watch over and over
Excellent video. The arcade machine repairs are interesting.
Ron, I respect you, man. But watching you play Galaga almost gave me a headache. Back in the day, teenage me would have considered himself a master at that game. Dual ship, rapidly smashing that fire button as fast as possible, mowing through those enemies most times before they could even fly into formation. Dodging and weaving enemies and shots with ease including zooming over top of the blue bees when they did that loop. And getting a Perfect on every one of the challenge stages. That was routine for me. No hacks needed. Note: Old me hasn't played a "real" Galaga cabinet for years, and I don't include playing it on that Multicade when I visited your shop a couple of years ago. But if I load it up on MAME on my PC I can still rock it though not quite as good. I need that short 2 way joystick to get the best feel for controlling the ship. Playing a Multicade with that larger 8 way does not feel right.
The "bulls***" about the high score is that those players were not good enough to get 999990 then kill off their ships so that no one could get anything higher and they could reign supreme at the top. At least until someone reset the high score list.
For the questions:
Cost: Not much in labor and depends upon how much that flyback costs, I suppose. $300-400?
Larger monitor: Screw that and give me the original. I played one of those "World's Largest Pacman/Galaga" games once and only made it to around level 40ish because I could not see everything. I was getting a little frustrated with it. Totally agree. You need to see which enemies are coming and where they launch from to process your next move.
Continue: Just a money grabber. No "real" Galaga player would ever consider a continue.
And no, I'm not an arrogant jerk about how good I was at the game. I'm just commenting that way for a bit of fun. Though teenage me was a little bit beyond smug at how well he could play it.
I agree with your assessment about the double ship being easier to get hit but on the other hand you get a lot more spraying while you're praying with the double ship. I find it is easier to score big in the bonus rounds with a double ship but I'm also an amateur...
Mine still works today but I’ve seen these in stores that’s in bad condition but still work
Another cool video guys, I would love to have this!!! To be honest I didn't notice when you played either game that the bigger monitor made a difference. Ms Packman looked a bit curved or stretched in the corners when you pointed it out before you played. You gotta use the tractor beam in Galaga, c'mon now!!!! That's how you get a better score on the challenge stages at the very least.
I played this arcade video game machine since earlier this year. But this Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga 20th Reunion Class of 1981 arcade game cabinet can bee seen at any movie theater, pizza parlor, mall, laundry mat, Mexican restaurants, etc.
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Great game as well and I grew up with those games too. Thanks for posting this.
Most TV repair shops I remember back in the 90s used to use a massive mirror to set focus and geometry, also that Ms pacman is on some crazy crackhead speed.lool
How I miss that Ms.PacMan machine
This is the one and only arcade cab I’ve owned - got it new in 01 and sold it in 2020 - apparently just before it’d have needed to be capped!
Great repair job. The best I've ever managed on the arcade rendition of Galaga was level 33, and I definitely had to use the double shot. You'd have to be insanely good to survive the later levels with the single shot, since there will be so many enemies left in formation.
I think the 25 inch monitor is neutral/helps for Galaga, and slightly hurts Ms. Pac-Man.
I don't continue on score attack games like these two, but I would on something like Rolling Thunder, where there are levels to go through and more of the game to see.
Those must be Ballpark Frank capacitors because they plump when ya cook 'em! 😅
I always loved the design of these 2001 class of 1981 Ms Pac-Man and Galaga reunion cabinets and the fact that there is a code to have Pac-Man replace Ms Pac-Man is simply ingenious and i love that
The code is even implanted into the machine itself i have always thought about what it would be like to own one of these reunion cabinets in real life hopefully they don't cost a lot or are super expensive and since these are from and where made in 2001 I'm sure that the price for these machines have gone up but still though it would be nice to own one of these in real life
Thats exactly what my 20th reunion cab was doing.
those arcade games back in the day were rock
It looks like Mike Martin has been in town. I spy a Solar Fox. 😂
I liked helping you out. Get the other guy to let us help on the pinball machines.
Great repair Joey. Some stylish skills Ronnie on the gameplay vid. I can’t comment on the monitor size as I never play arcade games. …shock horror, but it’s true!
I was just wondering. Did old TVs need to be Degaussed also. I remember my parents moving our TVs around and never having the color issues.
Also, yes, I would love to see more Arcade game repairs, even if they are short. Thanks for all your great videos.
Yes, but most do it automatically.
@@AfterBurnerTeirusu It sounds like this cabinet also has auto-degauss. I think having the monitor at an angle might mean they're more susceptible to color issues.
Nicely done! The volume on the cabinet really needs to be lowered about 20%, and maybe the speaker needs replacing. Sounded like it's rattling a fair bit. Congrats on nailing the flyback, and caps so quickly, but, you've got the experience on your side. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching, We leave the volume loud just for the video
@@LyonsArcade Ah, ok. LOL
Amazing how small the game board is.
I remember unpacking those brand new, we sold a ton of them for sure.
I went to my teenager-era (2001-2004) pizza restaurant a few years back to try to hunt down the one I played there and make them an offer for it, but alas, it was already gone :(
I used to see these all over town. They always earn wherever they are.
I remember showing some kids how to crash the system and reboot it with the Galaga attract mode bug on one of these 20 year reunion machines (hint: you can move and shoot the Galaga ship during attract mode after the mother ship comes down and tries to capture your ship 😂 ). Depending on what you do when you seize contol, the attract mode may continue as if nothing happened, or the whole machine crashes and reboots, including wiping the high scores!
That moment at about 7:50 sec when you realize "Its Broke" is only his second best saying....
I need one of these. Predictably, the Arcade1Up Galaga Ms Pac Man Class of 1981 edition has a terrible joystick and suffers badly from input lag and it simply can't be fixed unless they replace the screen itself.
I agree with Ronnie about the Galaga tractor beam, but I'm no good either. If I were good, I would probably use it to get the perfect score on the bonus levels.
Interesting behavior. Ms. Pac-Man moves far too fast, which reminds me of the speed she moved at in the episode of Game Center CX where Arino plays Ms. Pac-Man in a launderette. The original arcade game from 1981 does not have that speed. Probably Namco didn't know about the original hardware since it was actually made by Bally-Midway. "Push Start to Continue" is also new... used to be three lives (+ bonus) and game over, no exceptions. Also, the high score seems to have a battery backup, since I know neither of you guys scored 630750!
Those class of 81 pcbs are very unserviceable. I have one that has a weird curl at the top. Dunno why. But those boards seem to last forever. Also what kind of joystick/microswitches are used? Im using a shitty sanwa its not great. Thx btw i alway love arcade repairs. I had no idea caps hiss like that. You could see the cap was bulging. 25 bigger is better... i would love play this on an imax screen.
I think caps might hiss when they're actively venting but I don't think that's what was happening. It's probably the 15.7kHz running uncleanly with lots of power supply ripple.
Any repair videos are great!
interesting fact. Namco was not happy about Mrs. Pac-Man because it was done by a outside company named GCC. when Midway put out Jr. Pac-Man Namco got pissed off again because it was done by GCC. prompted Namco to cut tied with Bally Midway.
when this cab came out. one of the guys from GCC saw one while on vacation or something and was like. where is my damn cut on this? GCC busted Namco's ass over royalty of the Classic Of 81' coin up version. they had to made a new deal. 2 decades later. Bandi Namco had a meltdown when GCC gave the royalty rights to Mrs. Pac-Man to AtGames. both AtGames and BN sued each other but both suits got thrown out of court.
As usual, the attorneys were the only ones that made any money out of the situation.
@@dkd1228 Not really. Yes, the attornies did make money, but it was General Computer Corporation (GCC) that actually won IP (intellectual property) rights in the end. Ms. Pac-Man has quite a history and has been rated as one of the best video games of all time. Do your homework before you make comments.
@@dkd1228 no kidding.
There is another player hack for Galaga. On the first screen kill all the bugs except one and don't shoot the last one. After 5-10 minutes the bug will stop shooting, and then no bug will shoot for the rest of the game. This is how 13 yr old me stretched a quarter back in the day!
Wow that is running fast, I had Ms Pacman conversion but it ran a lot slower than that
There’s really on a few cabs that I want to own and this is own of them.
I would like both short and longer repairs.
Is the Ms Pacman playing extra fast? guess I've never seen that before.
Nice
It's not broke now
Wow I remember when these were new. Had one of these at this Family Entertainment Center I worked at in high school. This one looks like it's had a bit of a rough life since it was made.
Is that a JAMMA game board?
Yes it is
I bet Ronnie could play the spoons. Well done!
You literally cannot get a perfect score on the bonus rounds if you don't have a double ship!!
i can def see the cap buldge
Very nice. I dig it
i love this vid!
Nice fix.
Raster appears bright, despite phospor burn.
Convergence could stand a bit of work.
I see a lot of 'buldgers' in older PC motherboards that have failed. Did you use 105 deg C caps for replacement?
That's a lot less parts than the original ones had.
With a flat screen lcd or led monitor, the parts would be very little.
That would be incredible to make it a multi game machine.
All the old school games that only needed a joystick and 1 button could go in there
I bet they have either an updated chip or board that would be plug and play and make that cabinet do 40 or 50 games.
There was a tabletop game that came out in the early 80s by Grandstand called Astro Wars which is very similar to Galaga..
25 inch monitor is great. I like continue.
What did you use to degaussing the monitor ?
I couldn't see what you had to do that.
And how do you switch between fast play and regular play ?
www.amazon.com/Waldom-Degaussing-Coil-Color-Power/dp/B00011UYJU/ref=sr_1_2?crid=VK3545ED6O8F&keywords=degaussing+coil&qid=1694016054&sprefix=degaussing+coil%2Caps%2C139&sr=8-2
Does that solar fox have an intact instructions behind the joystick? If so, is there anyway you could scan it? I would definitely pay you for it. Mine is screwed up and I need to make a new stencil.
I'm good with shorter repair videos too. Another question: was the sound being off/weird just not a big enough deal to fix?
Standard monitor repair cap kit with new flyback I would say about $250 to $350 if you had to pick it up and bring it back I would say $350 to $450 total. If I did it I would have did a rejuvenation for the same price on the monitor just to give him a little bit more sharp image.
I always liked these older machines from the 2000s compared to the newer 2010s machines like pixel bash or arcade party, mainly cause the emulation was way better on these machines than the newer ones, also... CRT4LIFE
I have that exact machine and the screen stopped working a while ago. The place i bought it from wants an estimated $600.00 to fix. By fix, they said they would replace the crt with a new flat monitor. I paid $700 for the machine itself. Do you think its worth doing that. Any advise would be helpful.
Joe, That cabinet can’t really be from 2001 can it?! My God, it feels like only a few years ago when I remember it being released to me! Great video, thanks for sharing. Regards
Time Fly's when your having fun
Hey Joe!!!!!
The other one like Galaga Galaxian was the eggs I think ,,can you find it and dhow us a demo please
How did you get Ms. Pac-Man to eat fast?
There is a setting in the test menu on this game to make her eat fast or regular speed.
Where are you located? I am in BRANDYWINE Md and I need to find someone to fix my game. Please advise…
Who cares about Ms Pac Man/Galaga when you have a sweet Solar Fox sitting right next to it?
JOE CLASSIC, Why does the WG 7400 have Focus Drifting issues? Various types of arcade monitors use flybacks but they don't cause focus drifting issues but only the WG 7400 has focus drifting issues for some reasons
the 7400, 7500 and Neotec monitors are really bad about it for some reason, I don't know
@@LyonsArcade Thanks for the info. I wonder why that is maybe the High Voltage flyback Diode part number is different so it doesn't suppress the Current Spikes which will cause the flyback transformer to prematurely fail
@@LyonsArcade various pinball games and arcade games used various NVRAMS chips 5101, 5114, 5514, 6514 but do they all have "unlimited write cycles" before the NVRAM memory cells die and can't store anymore?
It’s fixed!
Most monitor repairs with a new flyback are around $225-$250 average.
Ron, having two ships makes the game more fun in my opinion! Yes, you’re an easier target but you have to be able to avoid getting hit and getting more of the targets so they don’t get you.
@@LyonsArcade oh there’s so much…just kidding 😅! Love your videos!
Is this a live stream? If so what platform??
Return it. That thing was dropped. The bottom of the CRT is pealing off. I could see that as soon as you put the camera on it. It's too bad. Aside from a vintage pinball machine and a pool table, that's the arcade game I would get.
You charge as much as the market will allow.
You are a business not charity.
will be a video on solar fox
Is there a way to check the hours a machine has been played? Im in the market to purchase a unit and want to know the hours it was used. Thanks
No hour meter on arcade games, they do have a coin counter tho so it will give you a good idea unless its been on freeplay
i have a tv that does this for a little bit when its first switched on and then it seems ok. Is there any chance of being able to get a new flyback for a 14" toshiba tv 14n21b2?
CRTs and parts are getting hard to come by ….. used to repair them But easier to send it out and flat rate repair…. CRT bad. Then VGA flatscreen monitor and CGA to VGA board. That replaces the complete chassis ….
I didn't know Joe could fix the games.
There was one at my peter piper pizza along time ago in 2018 when they had tokens and they had one of these but it was different the screen was an LG screen and not the screen everyone knows but they removed it in 2022
wich monitor or cfassis these cabs came with?
DON'T TOUCH THE METAL PART OF THE CAP. (flashback)
No less than 500$
How can a newbie get his first genuine arcade machine?
How much for that solor fox
@1:29
Mine plays for about 30 seconds and the screen slowly goes white. Any suggestions?
Can you still hear the game playing? flyback is probably drifting, pretty common usually takes longer then 30 seconds tho
Yodelayheehoo
That is a great cabinet. Putting in an LED display would be great.
Not sure if you can do that.
But that would eliminate the burn in
With space games and Pac Man and the like with the dark background, the burn in isn't so bad, as long as the monitor isn't cranked up too high.
well it aint national panasonic.
Never liked these cabs w the 25", just doesnt feel right.

ms pacman is set to fast need slower
