    Dude, I can't thank you enough for this vid! Excellent step by step breakdown, fantastic. I was having the same issue, voltages good going into the transformer, squat on the output. Desoldered, cleaned all lugs, trimmed and tinned all connections and bam! Solid. Much appreciated.

    Great job explaining and demonstrating how to test a power transformer properly.

    Great video, thanks for sharing! It’s pretty rare for transformers to go bad unless there’s been some sort of physical damage or major electrical event of some sort. Still a nice tutorial on how to test it. Thank you!

      Thanks for comment and watching. I agree, I have yet to come across a bad/failed transformer.

    Thanks for explaining this video. I have two dead Pac-Man’s and one dead Ms. Pac-Man. Maybe I’ll finally get one of them working again with your help!

    Great video. I watch a lot of arcade repair videos and your viedo was one of only a few that I actually learned something new. Keep it up.

    I picked up a ms pac man that didn't respond. Figured the transformers where bad but tried out your trick and tested them and they where perfect. Tossed them back in and the game starts up. No screen yet but thank you sir

      Glad the video helped. If the game is playing blind, you probably have a monitor issue. Good luck!

    Hey @jacklick I know this vid is old, but I left a bunch of spare Ms. Pac power blocks and harnesses at Troy's arcade when I was there. You are welcome to grab what you need.

      Cool. I don't have an immediate need but these are often missing when trying to convert something back.

    Sure in arcade monitors are very sensitive to switching power supplies do you know which arcade games are very sensitive to switching power supplies because some of them I've heard that causes display anomalies and display errors by the characters I'm not sure why a switching power supply will emit the the clicking and the switching frequency which gets radiated and get induced into the arcade monitors but not all arcade games are sensitive to this only a certain arcade games are so you have to only use one linear power supply

    I have a ms Pacman. Can the power supply and transformer be purchased new? Just like the original style

      Not new but people sell old ones all the time.

    Quick question...I'm trying to unhack the wiring of a Ms. Pac. Man with very little reference, and I just have a question regarding the wires running to the interlock switch and power switch. There should be two sets, one blue and one brown, correct? Do both sets run to the interconnect, then one set runs to the power switch? Thank you!

    • @jacklick
      @jacklick  5 років тому

      Did you figure this out? I would have to pull my game out to verify.

      @@jacklick not yet, but i dont want you to have to do that. I was just wondering if you knew off the top of your head. Thank you!

    So what do you think the cause was? Transformer lugs needing reflow, fuse holder, ?

    • @jacklick
      @jacklick  6 років тому

      It was definitely transformer lugs needing reflow. I didn't show it in the video but wasn't getting any AC power to the PCB prior to that. The fuse holder that was questionable was for the monitor and still was functional but I replaced it for good measure.

    On the high side of the transformer what kind of voltage do you get between ground and zero? I would expect none or very little but I'm getting 70 volts.

    • @jacklick
      @jacklick  6 років тому

      Hmm I am not 100% sure I know. You are referring to input side of the Game Transformer correct? Not the monitor isolation transformer. I would have to pull my game out and measure but you should have @120v between 0 and 117v lugs. I am not an electrician but Neutral is tied to Earth Gnd at most panels i believe so Hot to GND should be 120v just has Hot to Neutral should be 120vac. Do you have a gnd plug on your cord?

    • @xlostangel74
      @xlostangel74 6 років тому

      I have a ground on the plug. Initially I started digging into all this because I had no power when it was switched on. I had no low voltage at the lugs on the low side of the transformer. I pulled out the transformer and experienced the same thing you did on the test bench. So I hooked it back up on the high side in the machine. Still no low voltage, but I found the stray 70 volts on the neutral side. Would that cause the transformer not to work?

    • @jacklick
      @jacklick  6 років тому

      I will pull and check mine but agree your neutral to zero should be near 0 volts. Have you checked the neutral to ground at the outlet. I would just work backwards as this is basically direct AC and GND from the outlet to the power cord, through the power switch, to interlocks to fuse to transformer input.

      jacklick thank you! I’m working on my Area 51 arcade today and watched this Video cuz I needed to test my transformer on it. I have a black screen and I do have neck glow but t when I moved the wires on the transformer the screen hit blue. Btw great work on your video learned a lot.
