      Shengshou and Dayan both copy v cubes. However what they do is they use a v cube mechanism but make it better.

    Excellent review Pi! Was supposed to get the cubes today but guess I'll get it tomorrow. I ordered both the white/black and pillowed V-cube 3s. Looking forward to solving them. I think the design looks very familiar of other V-cube products, although yes those "torpedos" seem to be a new addition. Either way, been meaning to get this cube and excited to try it out. Keep up the great work! :-)

  • @Mechanabox
    @Mechanabox 10 років тому +258

    I don't mean to be a hater, I've been a sub for a while, but I honestly think you were trying a little too hard in this video to prove that V-Cubes didn't knock off DaYan. Did you really have to jump to the conclusion that DaYan was the one that knocked off V-Cubes, if anyone was knocking anyone else off? Even respected companies like V-Cubes are capable of doing bad things such as knocking off other puzzles. It almost sounds like you think V-Cubes is incapable of such thing. I truly do repect your opinion, after all, this is *my* personal opinion, but the way you talk about it just doesn't sound the most reasonable.

    • @ivnitroxb
      @ivnitroxb 10 років тому +17

      If you want to get technical, everyone copied rubik's. However, Rubik's brand cubes are a bit stiff (by that I mean absolutely horrible). It just depends on what you like, like I have the Moyu Weilong 3x3 which I love, so its all preference. No one really copies anyone.

    • @Mechanabox
      @Mechanabox 10 років тому +7

      That's exactly what MM&P said in his recent video... are you stealing quotes?

    • @ivnitroxb

      No seriously...actually no. Its great to see we think alike! I just thought that it should be said.

    • @Mechanabox
      @Mechanabox 10 років тому +3

      Yes, but from the Rubik's brand to the newer cubes is definitely a large jump in design, the V-Cube and Guhong, however, are very similar. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying V-Cube knocked off DaYan, but it's just a suspicious situation.

    • @ivnitroxb
      @ivnitroxb 10 років тому

      Yeah, I'm a relatively new cuber, about two months. I have got a total of 4 cubes, lol, so i wouldn't know much but my own opinion and others I have seen on videos.

    Depends on preference. If you don't want to have good times and have a lot of money, get the V3. The Dayan Zhanchi is extremely fast but has a crispy feel. On the other hand, the Guhong has a nice smooth flow to it and feels really stable in your hands. The Guhong and Zhanchi are both very fast cubes and have very close corner cutting and turning, it's just a matter of how you turn the cube and which one fits your style better.

    From my point of view I see that Dayan copied V-Cubes but at the same time V-Cubes copied Dayan. Dayan built the Zhanchi resembling other V-Cubes and taking out the pieces that weren't necessary and when V-Cubes saw that they got annoyed which is why they knocked off the GuHong. So yeah, it is even.

  • @keatonelliscubing
    @keatonelliscubing 12 років тому +2

    They're both good cubes, it really just depends on your cubing style. The Guhong is more of a gummy cube, while the Zhanchi is more clicky.

    You know you don't have to quite use that much lubix? Also, you're supposed to lube the 6 screws / where they meet with the core, to allow the centers to spin faster. You do that, and just put a small amount of lubix where 2 pieces rub together, and it'll spread quite a bit.

    Im not hating. Im just telling the truth. The v-cube does not at all match up to current speedcubes. I tried their 3×3, its like a round rubiks brand. The 4×4... bit better but slow. Stickers were bad. Turning was slow. Much worse then the weisu or shengshou.

  • @SwiftrunnerXXY
    @SwiftrunnerXXY 12 років тому

    @SamBCuber The problem is that what V-Cube patented wasn't each individual cube, but a method for constructing cubes of a wide range of sizes, including the 3x3. This patent was filed before Dayan produced the GuHong or the ZhanChi. Though I had never heard of the torpedos idea before the ZhanChi, so that could be a valid gripe and something V-Cube was ripping off... but the GuHong was made by similar methods to the V-Cube company's after their patent was filed.

    • @JoshJumble
      @JoshJumble 9 років тому +2

      butterflyspinart I'm pretty sure Dayan didn't mean to "copy" the V-cube 5. And yes, V-Cube 3 is pretty much a knockoff of the Guhong.

    • @CASTCorp
      @CASTCorp 9 років тому

      So essentially you're both saying that the vcube company copied themselves?

    • @JoshJumble
      @JoshJumble 9 років тому +1

      CAST Corp No, VCUBES copied Dayan, ands since Dayan is technically original, VCUBES didn't copy themselves. And about the Guhong looking a *bit* like the VCUBE 5, don't 95% of what we call "original design" 3x3s very slightly resemble it anyways? You can find similarities between ANY two mechanisms, after all.

    • @CASTCorp
      @CASTCorp 9 років тому

      Hmm. Good point

  • @theocuber9787
    @theocuber9787 9 років тому +2

    I am pretty sure that V-Cubes went after DaYan because the GuHong is almost the same a a bandaged V-6. I guess V-Cubes wanted to get DaYan back by stealing the GuHong, or maybe just because it was still a bandaged V-6. Still, it is not as good. this has been done again, with New Island and QIYI although less so. New Island basically rebranded the QIYI Bullfight, so QIYI decided to get them back by stealing New Island's box and bag. In my opinion, Seven Towns and V-Cubes are just companies that are going to eventually end the cubing community by shutting every other company down, if you have heard of Rubik's recent "patent case."

    The thing about the cubing community is it's all out there. Designers and inventors can easily just buy the latest product and figure out everything about it by taking it apart. There are really no secret technologies being used and that is what makes it so easy to just copy another brand. It would be interesting to see a model of a cube that doesn't come apart whilst maintaining a newer internal mechanism.

    Hey everyone--- I'm a new cuber and just got into cubing. After watching the tutorial by TheSergsB, I had a time of 3 minutes on my official cube. Wanting to go faster, I got something called like a YJ Sulong- I'm not sure. My time is 1.00.35.
    So, if anyone is kind enough to reply, could somone give me a link for a clean, understandable tutorial for a faster way to solve (i.e., the way Pi solves)?My personal goal is 30 seconds. Gotta start somewhere!!!

    "The first dyan 3x3 doesn't even compare to the v-cube 3" That's because they blatantly ripped off the design of the guhong.

    Next time, when screwing in a stiff core, try a screwdriver with a larger handle. This allows you to easily put some torque on it.

    Hey I just got into the cubing community like last weekend and I find myself really liking cubing. It was really cool to see a video that showed insight into the cubing world and gave some history about it. I taught myself how to solve a 3x3 for the first time last week and ive been watching videos ever since. But none of them gave me any information other than the cube itself.

    Sorry, i made the Zhanchi sound like it was bad a bit. It's an amazing cube, don't get me wrong, It has really good cutting, smooth turning and is overall an amazing cube. It's just made for really fast cubers who fit in a bunch of moves really really tight together making it slightly less "stable" than the guhong, which glides, but is not meant to be turned THAT fast. SO if you're above 30 seconds, I'd recommend the guhong, it will just work much better for you and still be very fast.

    I think the V-cube 3 is a must have if you collect all the V-cubes. But if you are looking for a good speedcube, there are a few better ones with lower price tags.

    You must also take into consideration the fact that guhongs and zhan chi's were out well before v-cubes manufactured this 3x3.

    Keep in mind, V-Cube's 3x3x3 was released more later than the Zhanchi so V-Cube has more idea and V-Cube copied the pieces and torpedo

  • @cammobox
    @cammobox 12 років тому

    the way I see it is that dayan came out with their cube first and v-cube didn't even use the mechanism it patented so v-cube has no right to complain. especially since they are unwilling to come out with a cube that the cubers actually want (like the 8x8-11x11).

    He will always be Billy, and I can't imagine him being skinny.

    I really want to believe in V-cubes and what they put out. I own a white V2, a black V2, a white V2b, a black V3, a white V3b, a white V5, a black V6 and a white V7. But I am losing my faith in them. I brought a white Shengshou 6x6 and 8x8 products out of frustration for the failures of the company in not releasing products fast enough.
