- I went out to spectate the 2021 Western States Endurance Run: One Hundred Miles in One Day. I'm new to trail ultras, and I'm definitely not a photographer, so I felt a bit out of my league the entire weekend. But the trail community is so welcoming, and this race is incredible to behold.
I could only capture so much of it, given the time that I had. I recognize that there's so many other stories that I've missed. Please don't think that I've intentionally or thoughtlessly overlooked any important narratives. Instead, know that it is my motivation to return and document it again.
In the meantime, there were many talented actual journalists and actual photographers who attended this event. Please stay tuned for their work as it becomes available for the 2021 Western States Endurance Run

walmsley running under 15 hours off of an injury last month and in a bucket hat will forever remain the greatest thing ever
On a above average hot year not to forget!!!
Amazing footage! What an adventure! 👏👏I bet that outro bit is something no one else will have captured. 🤣
Jami has a surprising number of photos from that aid station. He may have me beat
Haha, Jamison providing quality content!
Nice to see you together
he always does
oh snap, this channel went into another level. Jami look scared, like he was expecting a puma to jump out at any second.
Ko!!!! Thank u for all the footage….watching these athletes suffering in the days heat and still running was mind blowing ..Very humbled !!! What a day !!!
This was quality content
Thank you 🙏
@@kofuzi I had a great laugh at Jami pretending to sell Mike who 'doesnt know' what OF is, on being Mike's OF content manager! 😃😊 😁
Quality audio especially. How do you do it! @kofuzi
Mike, you once again created a great cinematic piece that gives us a condensed image of this huge event. How fun that Jami was there with you!
It wouldn’t have been the same without him
So stoked that you & your brother from another were able to witness first hand the feat these amazing athletes accomplished. Thank you for sharing it with us!!! Loved it!!
You got talent. Super high quality stuff, thanks for sharing, this is the essence of motivation. 🙌
Thank you!
As an ultra runner I was glued to the coverage yesterday. This video is fantastic. Good to see Jami.
Such a great race. It was a slllloooow day at work, so I was able to listen and watch the coverage all day. So jealous of all who got to go out and witness the race in person! Great content kofuzi, keep it up!
Absolutely LOVE the soundtracks to this
7:58 Tommy Rivs sighting! Love that guy and so glad to see him!
Great video ko! Had to be amazing to be there. Can’t wait until the next live stream!
Great work, Ko! The images and video were very well done, nice alternative angles and views that really told the story rather than just showed a picture. On a side note, from the finishers I’ve watched they could really use an I V fluid drip to get them rehydrated at a safe and managed level. You can see the affects of fatigue and dehydration on their speech and reactions. Incredible accomplishments.
The heat was unrelenting, and that’s coming from my perspective of a guy who spent much of the day in the shade
Great video! I’m in Vietnam and was following over the weekend but this was really fun to watch. Thanks for the effort to make this video!
So that is where Jamison has been hiding 🤔❤️🏃🏻♂️ Great video !
Been missing Jami!
Great footage guys, love the last photo of you Kofuzi up in the hills amongst the trees, very epic. Well done Jami on the shot!
Jami got the shot. For sure.
Great Job to all the participants and to Ko n Jami too! Great footage!
It was a tough year. For everyone who toed the line, I salute them.
This is awesome, Kofuzi! Some great perspectives. And how freaking cool about the media credentials!?! Jealous! 😂
It’s weird to be considered media. Normally, I just think of myself as the weird dude with the selfie stick
@@kofuzi haha same here
What a race this was! Big up for all those footage and chasing the runners. 👍👍
Jim is in another stratosphere for these ultra distances, just insane. And the women’s field killed it in that heat. Hyped.
It depends on the terrain. On runnable smooth courses like Western he's the best because he"s fast but not the most technical. That's why on very technical mountain races like UTMB and others in Europe true mountain runners like Kilian Jornet and François d'Haene and even Tim Tollefson are better. Remember that in dry conditions Western can be ran in road shoe like Sage Canaday did years ago in the Hoka Mach v1
Jim just crushed it again. Almost surreal how dominant he can be.
With how hot it was out there, it makes no sense how anyone can run like that
Nicely done Mike. What an exciting trip!
Awesome video!! Love the back ground music and teaming up with Jamie. You guys did a great job.
look forward to coverage on golden hour. While Jim is always rockin the front, it seems way more relatable the people finishing last. The time cutoff makes officially finishing a real struggle for many who enter. Although, its always the Pros who get all the glory (and views).
Fantastic coverage! Really enjoyed this - thanks Kofuzi.
Thanks for watching!
Kofuzi thank you very much for sharing this content with all of us
Great documentary/shots/music! 👍👌 Greetings from 🇩🇪
PS crazy climate change
this is the sick duo, awesome
Thank you so much... really amazing, I enjoyed, wish to be with you!!
The prisoner of war look is really in now....loved the footage and you are a photographer.
Good to see another collab between my two favorite UA-cam run/shoe reviewers. Have been wondering what Jamison has been up to of late.
so much work went into this and so fun man! huge props to you guys! the power of the bucket hat!!
I am so surprised that the hat made it the entire race
Thanks for bringing this to us, Mike. Hope it was a fun adventure.
It was incredible
Best footage out there!
The guys is exceptionally fast. I think I’m 2019 he was averaging like 8:30 pace. That was like the pace of one of my 6-8 mile workout runs and my wife’s 5K PR LOL! No way I’m doing that in hot, hilly, mountainous terrain with less air. I don’t even think I could walk that 100 miles and finish under 2 days.
Quality video and photos from a great duo. 🙌🏼🙌🏼👍🏼
Great footage from secluded area! Thanks for covering this!
It was a lot of fun!
excellent work Kofuzi, great shots
Favorite video you’ve ever put out!!! The ending 🤠🤣🤣 I gotta know - how hard was it to keep up with Jim?
We missed him at the river. He was too fast.
@kofuzi - how about running next to him? Was that eye opening to actually feel how fast he was after all those miles? Would love to hear more on how it was running beside him
Stop by the livestream tomorrow if you can (or watch replay). We’ll be talking about it there
This was cool, I like this type of content with you guys enjoying the events
Great coverage, very professional. Thanks for all your work!
Awesome video, thanks Kofuzi! JW is an absolute monster!
He’s beyond human, it seems
3:10 Kofuzi ambushes and stalks terrified man in the woods
I was snapping a lot of photos with the big cam, so they all heard me from long ways away. click click click click
3:10 my fav part
I loved that, thankyou for filming it, Jamison providing the double act!! Ps. Were you running after Jim down that hill?!
Nice video. Jim did great again
it is a performance that doesn't make sense. he's super human
@@kofuzi yes for sure and his width of ability is amazing. He ran about 2:14 at olympic marathon trials and 1:04 half
Loving it. Great video👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.
Great video kofuzi! thanks for sharing this.
Thank you!
Brilliant job, thanks Kofuzi
This is straight FIRE! Great work!
Thank you 🙏
Jim doesn't carry anything with him (except hand bottle)? Does he just smash some fuel down at each aid station and nothing in between? Can watch videos of him running all day. Thanks for making this!
Nice footage! West coast and Midwest running looks super scenic. Can't find those kind of views on the East Coast
Jim rocking Gilligan's bucket hat; queue the memes.
You should check out the replay of my livestream from last Tuesday. The subject was Famous Bucket Hats.
I need a trail running bucket hat...that is what I have learned from watching this video.
All day I kept hearing, ‘A bucket hat? Ok!’
Fantastic job! Thanks
After 1 1/2 years of lock down, this was a great relief. Possibly the hottest WSER in history. So many great moments to remember. Not the least is that 9 of the top 20 finishers were women. IRunFar did a great job with what they had to work with. Lots of tech problems, heat and limited on-air staff having to struggle through it all (they did a great job).
I think it was 110 on race day one year. Also I think the did great for it being the first time doing it live I am going to reach out and see if they need help next year I be there might as well help out.
Great video! Are you going to preview the CIM course while you’re there?
Great content Michael!!
Thanks!
Awesome VIDEO great work and effort.
Thanks so much!
Haha awesome filming good work from both of you, yo what’s going with the spray at the end 🤨
Wear sunscreen

I burn easy
@@waldowootube9927 haha was that you in the actual kofuzi movie?
Great video. Thanks!
Was that Tommy Rivs towards the end? Is he doing okay now?
He's a lot better thankfully. A true miracle seeing him able to walk and have fun again.
It was! He looked so strong!
It is! He is mostly out of the woods. Looking WAY better than I imagined. Been scouring the net for a picture of him at States. Glad you added this one @kofuzi!
This was awesome. Thanks
Thanks Bromka!
Nice to see Rivs there looking good !
He looked great! It was such a nice surprise
fantastic video. thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching!
What is Walmsley eating???? His running form in the last 100m of the 100-mile race in the blistering heat is years better than my running form in the first 100m of a 5 km training run. Crazy! I just love to watch him run, It's like ballet, just better. :)
I think he likes to eat fruit at the aid stations (likely among other things). And I think he prefers calories in his drink bottles with occasional gels
Is this only at 360p?! Thanks for the coverage.
Sometimes I’d you catch a video soon after upload it’s not finished processing yet and is lower quality.
Also UA-cam recently changed how you select the quality of the video you watch to a more vague and annoying system.
For some reason, this video took so long to process above 360p for UA-cam
So good to see Rivs!
I didn’t know he was going to be there. It was a pleasant surprise to see him
Great job on the video!
Thanks!
Thanks mike 👏👏👏
When are you taking part Kofuzi? You’d capture some great footage from the course POV style
it seems a bit far for me, but getting footage from the course would be quite the adventure
@@kofuzi I think you'd give it a good shot!
This is a great video but I just don't understand why you'd put so much of it in slow-motion? The appeal of watching the elite guys is how quick they go compared to us average-joes. When it's in slow-mo you totally lose this perspective and just end up watching someone running slowly. I can run slowly at home 😆
all my videos are in slow motion. it's my thing.
my apologies that it does not suit your preferences.
Jim was carrying less stuff than anyone else
Amazing visuals 😊
Sick outro!
There were a couple of guys dressed up festively. It was a sight
That’s was cool!! 💪🏻💪🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Missing Jamie “stay in school, don’t do drugs, if you can….keep it tight” 😊
Great outro footage
I really should have interviewed that guy. I didn’t know I’d have enough time for it, but I totally could have
Was Jim using the old EVO Speedgoat or some updated version?
I believe the evo speedgoat is the same he used last year. I don’t think it got an update for 2021
Very cool.
Well done!!!
Thanks for watching!
great video!
Thank you for watching!
Great content.
I hope to go someday
That must've been fun.
2:10 LOL. Jami’s over it. I’ve been up since 4am, it’s hot and I can’t breathe.
Aw man! You were here! 🙂 I
360p quality? Stuck for me
Me, too. ☹️
It took so long for UA-cam to process the video above 360p. It should be viewable at the intended 1080 now
14 miles in this morning along a canal in Phoenix, it's already 97°
Rumors say that bucket hats improve your running effciency.
he a beast
Hey, what running shoes would you recommend for 2-3 mile runs?
Hayden was hanging in there with Jim for a while. I'm sure trying to match Jim's pace ended up causing Hayden to slow down towards the end. He still finished strong though.
It was a challenging day for him, but it seemed like he gave it everything
Okay so give the people what they want...what shoes was Jim wearing??? 😆
Evo speedgoat. I have a photo of his shoes zoomed in on IG
What waistbelt is Jim wearing here?
I believe it’s a Naked belt, but there’s much less annoying branding on his than any Naked belt I’ve ever seen.
Others have stated that it may be a Nathan belt?
Thank you so much!
I can’t breathe up here. Hahahahaha
Jami and I were struggling all weekend
I bet you were! Tks
To the 5 people who downvoted this video WTF!?!? 🖕🖕🖕 - awesome footage!!
That’s ok. I suspect that some people are looking for either a Billy Yang style production (which is beyond my skill, talent, and budget levels) or a sports center style play by play (which is also beyond my budget level but is also not the kind of video I want to make).
This is a bit different, and it’s hard to warn people about that beforehand. I don’t blame people who don’t like it or feel that this doesn’t meet their expectations
I reject the bucket hat in all its forms. It didn't work in 8th grade when they were being hawked by Abercrombie and Fitch, and they don't work now. Get behind me, foul brim
Hahah I was thinking how funny it is that he won wearing that thing.
Bucket hats only look good on soldiers carrying weapons. You know when your actually in the damn desert
They are 2021's must have fashion accessory :P
is it funny that the slow motion start was the same as the real pace on the next scene?
The incline is no joke
