I notice you mentioned the more polyester the better. I do a lot of cotton shirts w the cricket vinyl.. can u use cotton tees with this or just polyester.. the instructions were awesome very clear to understand..I want to move into the sublimation world and this was very helpful and less intimidating
Thank you so much!! With sublimation the fabric does need to be polyester, 100% is best. If it is a blend you want to have at least 70% polyester. Cotton fabric does not work with sublimation ink.

How happy I am to know you, dear. My question is , can I use ET2800 epson to print on tears away paper with the inks that come with the printer? Or Can I have print on this kind of paper which you mentioned with not sublimation ink? You know, after printing, I want to put it on the desired fabric and embroidery jewelry on it. Therefore, it doesn't matter if the ink is permanent or not. It is enough just to have a design and color when embroidering. I appreciate you, and I will be happy to have your answer ❤❤❤

Great video! Though I do have a question. I know home printers typically don’t have “white ink” because they print on white computer paper usually and do not need to. If I wanted to sublimate on a yellow shirt, I’m assuming the white would come out transparent? I don’t suppose you know a way to circumnavigate this. Incredible video!

I love your video !! So does this mean that I can out these images that the converted printer prints can go on ANY shirt or only polyester count shirt ?
Thank you so much! For sublimation it does need to be a polyester shirt. 100% polyester is best, but you can also use a blend as long as the polyester count is high (around 75%). The synthetic fiber of polyester is able to take the ink in and infuse it into the fibers, but natural fibers like cotton can not.

Hi! Are you referring to the lines around the image from the paper? Those are just impressions from the pressure of the paper. It came out after I washed the shirt. The edges of the paper will sometimes leave an imprint on the shirt because of the pressure and heat. You can always ease up the pressure a bit or you can actually tear the edges of the paper a bit around your image to try and help with the harsh lines. I have done it both ways but after washing the shirt I have never had an issue where the lines were still visible.
I have an Epson Eco tank 2800 and want to convert it to Sublimation Ink. Do you have any advice on how to clean the ink containers after filling with the epson ink?
Hi! Unfortunately, I am not too familiar with the process, I have never had to clear the lines before. But I know it can be done, there are several UA-cam video showing the process in detail, and there is a kit that you can order on Amazon to help make the process a lot easier.
Thank you!! You don’t need any special program to print out the images, you can just use Microsoft Word, or if you have a Mac you can use Pages. Both of those programs let you mirror the image or flip it before you print, that way when you sublimate it will be the correct way. Thank you!! Yes, that is a possibility, but I do believe the process of fully emptying the ink is a little bit more complicated. Even if all the ink is gone, the lines will have to be cleared out as well before adding the sublimation ink. I’ve never done it myself, but I know it can be done, and there are some videos online to walk you through that process.
I would like to know what settings you set the printer to print qualitatively on sublimation paper. Since the printer is not primarily intended for sublimation, it probably does not have the option to print on sublimation paper.. Thank you for answer 💖💖
I always print on the best quality setting and I choose matte paper as my paper option. When you go to print on the computer there should be a pop up with the printer settings. It will ask the paper style and quality setting. There is an arrow with a drop down menu that you can select from.

Hi!! Yes that is exactly right, the fabric has to be polyester. 100% polyester is best, but a high count polyester will work also. The cotton fibers can not take in the ink so unfortunately it does not work on cotton. But it also will not work on black, even if it is polyester. The black is just too dark for the ink to show up. White is best, but any light color will usually work. 💕

Thank you so much for watching. Unfortunately I don't think I would be able to since my printer is already setup. Each printer is a little bit different. For my printer, once I had the ink in, I plugged it into the power and turned it on and referenced the booklet that came with it. It had instructed me to download the Epson app on my phone and it took me through step-by-step instructions in the app. It was very easy to follow. 💕
As long as the shirt is polyester no ink will wash out. With the sublimation process the ink becomes a permanent part of the shirt. However if you use a shirt that is not polyester then it may wash out. The synthetic fibers are what take the ink in. Cotton can not hold onto the ink like polyester can. I have a video where I show the process of sublimating a poly cotton blend sweatshirt and I do a wash test to see how it holds up. Since it was a blend some of the ink washed out which resulted in the image looking a bit faded but still fully visible.
Some dyers will put a 'sacrificial' piece of cloth into a wash with the item they are wishing to dye. Any residual dye then is absorbed by the other fabric swatch and less likely to coat and stain your machine. Not sure about the sublimation ink residue, it may stay in suspension and simply drain out with the wash water.
I am not sure about that. There may be a way, but the sublimation ink does last a really long time, and even when it is done it could still be in the lines. I have a separate printer that I use for printing my normal papers, and a separate printer that is designated only for sublimation.
Once you use your printer for sublimation, it will remain for that purpose. Theres videos that show how to flush it to clean it and convert it back to original, BUT IS NOT RECOMENDED.
The printer I got had me download an app on my phone to go through the set up step by step. I know there are different steps for each printer though. For this model, the app was very helpful in the setup process. I just had to follow the prompts.

Yes unfortunately the fabric definitely has to be polyester, cotton fibers can not take in the ink. Tape is helpful for keeping the image in place. When you put the heat press down it can shift the image without tape.
QUESTION: When turning the printer on do I have to download any software to my computer? Will I have to install an Epson app?? Or just turn the printer on and connect it to my wifi? TIA
🤗 Thank you so much!! Unfortunately with sublimation cotton does not work well. For fabrics polyester is the best. The fibers of polyester can take the color in. You can do a blend of cotton and polyester, I would say a minimum of 50/50. Even with a blend the colors might look slightly washed out (more of a vintage look) and not as bold and vibrant as an item that is 100% polyester. Hope this helps!
Hi! No, it does not need to be Hiipoo at all! It just has to be Sublimation ink. Regular printer ink will not work for sublimation. Once you do choose a brand of ink you are going to want to stick with that brand though and not mix them in the printer. I hope this helps!
For me personally I would say yes! I have been using mine for a couple of years now and I haven’t had any issues. Once I had to troubleshoot when it was printing too light, but I was able to fix it. I have heard of other people having issues though, but I don’t think that is the norm.

Thank you! I’m so glad you liked the video. It should work as long as there is no ink in the printer. The renewed printer should have empty ink tanks and the lines should be cleared of ink, so you should be good to go with you sublimation ink. I did have an issue with that in the past where I got a renewed one from Amazon, but I think it was really just a return and the printer already had printer ink in it. I had to return it and purchase a new one. But that doesn’t usually happen so I think it should be fine.
Once you put in sublimation ink there’s no way to use regular printer ink is there? Like I’d need to buy two, one for regular printing and one for sublimation? Or can I take out the cartridges in the printer
Yes, once the sublimation ink is in the printer it can only be used for sublimation. I have two different printers, this one for sublimation and then another one for my everyday paper printing. Since this is an easy fill type of printer there aren’t any cartridges that can be removed and put back in. The tank that takes the ink in is fixed to the machine. I hope this helps!

I was honestly kind of nervous myself but once I jumped in I was so relieved that it was pretty simple 🤗 Those hippo easy fill bottles are also very user friendly! I think that is a great idea to use the cricket easy press for T-shirts and then down the line you could always choose to invest in a heat machine if you want. I believe the one I used in the video is around $190 on Amazon but it did also come with some attachments. I have heard form others that another good option is to check Facebook Market Place for gently used ones in your area. Sometimes you can find a good deal if someone is looking to upgrade their heat press and want to sell their current one 💕😊

I noticed you haven’t added any white ink. What happens if your image has white in it, how will it print out the white part if it’s on a black shirt?

Unfortunately, those pieces that are white in the design will end up being whatever the color t-shirt you are printing on.

Hi! I didn’t change any of the printer settings, I just print on best quality option and the matte paper option.

Great video! Though I do have a question. I know home printers typically don’t have “white ink” because they print on white computer paper usually and do not need to. If I wanted to sublimate on a yellow shirt, I’m assuming the white would come out transparent? I don’t suppose you know a way to circumnavigate this. Incredible video!

@@marylynch8196I don't use a large heat press. I use the Cricut Heat Press 2. If I were going to do a lot & sell I would definitely have a larger heat press. I love my Epson 2800 so far. Hope you enjoy your sublimating!! I sure do! God Bless.
I love your video !! So does this mean that I can out these images that the converted printer prints can go on ANY shirt or only polyester count shirt ?
Thank you so much! For sublimation it does need to be a polyester shirt. 100% polyester is best, but you can also use a blend as long as the polyester count is high (around 75%). The synthetic fiber of polyester is able to take the ink in and infuse it into the fibers, but natural fibers like cotton can not.

was the running shirt supposed to have those lines through it?
Hi! Are you referring to the lines around the image from the paper? Those are just impressions from the pressure of the paper. It came out after I washed the shirt. The edges of the paper will sometimes leave an imprint on the shirt because of the pressure and heat. You can always ease up the pressure a bit or you can actually tear the edges of the paper a bit around your image to try and help with the harsh lines. I have done it both ways but after washing the shirt I have never had an issue where the lines were still visible.

Hi! Unfortunately, I am not too familiar with the process, I have never had to clear the lines before. But I know it can be done, there are several UA-cam video showing the process in detail, and there is a kit that you can order on Amazon to help make the process a lot easier.

Thank you!! You don’t need any special program to print out the images, you can just use Microsoft Word, or if you have a Mac you can use Pages. Both of those programs let you mirror the image or flip it before you print, that way when you sublimate it will be the correct way. Great video! Thank you. Question: if I had already filled the eco tanks with the eco ink already(before knowing I could turn it into a sublimation) can I use the ink in the printer until fully empty and then switch over to the sublimation ink instead? Thank you in advance for your response. ❤
Thank you!! Yes, that is a possibility, but I do believe the process of fully emptying the ink is a little bit more complicated. Even if all the ink is gone, the lines will have to be cleared out as well before adding the sublimation ink. I’ve never done it myself, but I know it can be done, and there are some videos online to walk you through that process.

Say I’ve already set my machine up for sublimation, but I need to move the printer from upstairs to the basement , will unplugging cause any problems?
Not at all, that’s completely fine! If the ink is already in the machine just keep the printer upright when moving it.
What print setting did you use? High quality? How do you change the printer settings for maximum color and printing quality?
I always print on the best quality setting and I choose matte paper as my paper option. When you go to print on the computer there should be a pop up with the printer settings. It will ask the paper style and quality setting. There is an arrow with a drop down menu that you can select from.

Hi!! Yes that is exactly right, the fabric has to be polyester. 100% polyester is best, but a high count polyester will work also. The cotton fibers can not take in the ink so unfortunately it does not work on cotton. But it also will not work on black, even if it is polyester. The black is just too dark for the ink to show up. White is best, but any light color will usually work. 💕

Thank you so much for watching. Unfortunately I don't think I would be able to since my printer is already setup. Each printer is a little bit different. For my printer, once I had the ink in, I plugged it into the power and turned it on and referenced the booklet that came with it. It had instructed me to download the Epson app on my phone and it took me through step-by-step instructions in the app. It was very easy to follow. 💕

I work from home , and found a HP desk set at a very reasonable price. Easy to hook and set up . Good quality!
When you wash shirts after pressing.. what's that like? Do the items wash normally? does any ink end up in the wash water or bleed to other clothing?
As long as the shirt is polyester no ink will wash out. With the sublimation process the ink becomes a permanent part of the shirt. However if you use a shirt that is not polyester then it may wash out. The synthetic fibers are what take the ink in. Cotton can not hold onto the ink like polyester can. I have a video where I show the process of sublimating a poly cotton blend sweatshirt and I do a wash test to see how it holds up. Since it was a blend some of the ink washed out which resulted in the image looking a bit faded but still fully visible.
Some dyers will put a 'sacrificial' piece of cloth into a wash with the item they are wishing to dye. Any residual dye then is absorbed by the other fabric swatch and less likely to coat and stain your machine. Not sure about the sublimation ink residue, it may stay in suspension and simply drain out with the wash water.
Thanks for the vid. Im assuming once your sublimation ink is gone, you can reload with the normal Epson ink and itll be fine for inkjet printing?
I am not sure about that. There may be a way, but the sublimation ink does last a really long time, and even when it is done it could still be in the lines. I have a separate printer that I use for printing my normal papers, and a separate printer that is designated only for sublimation.
Once you use your printer for sublimation, it will remain for that purpose. Theres videos that show how to flush it to clean it and convert it back to original, BUT IS NOT RECOMENDED.

The printer I got had me download an app on my phone to go through the set up step by step. I know there are different steps for each printer though. For this model, the app was very helpful in the setup process. I just had to follow the prompts.

Yes unfortunately the fabric definitely has to be polyester, cotton fibers can not take in the ink. Tape is helpful for keeping the image in place. When you put the heat press down it can shift the image without tape.

🤗 Thank you so much!! Unfortunately with sublimation cotton does not work well. For fabrics polyester is the best. The fibers of polyester can take the color in. You can do a blend of cotton and polyester, I would say a minimum of 50/50. Even with a blend the colors might look slightly washed out (more of a vintage look) and not as bold and vibrant as an item that is 100% polyester. Hope this helps!

Hi! No, it does not need to be Hiipoo at all! It just has to be Sublimation ink. Regular printer ink will not work for sublimation. Once you do choose a brand of ink you are going to want to stick with that brand though and not mix them in the printer. I hope this helps!

For me personally I would say yes! I have been using mine for a couple of years now and I haven’t had any issues. Once I had to troubleshoot when it was printing too light, but I was able to fix it. I have heard of other people having issues though, but I don’t think that is the norm.

Thank you! I’m so glad you liked the video. It should work as long as there is no ink in the printer. The renewed printer should have empty ink tanks and the lines should be cleared of ink, so you should be good to go with you sublimation ink. I did have an issue with that in the past where I got a renewed one from Amazon, but I think it was really just a return and the printer already had printer ink in it. I had to return it and purchase a new one. But that doesn’t usually happen so I think it should be fine.

I’ve only ever had maybe 4 or 5 sheets in the tray at one time (while printing multiple designs) but I didn’t have any issues.

Yes, once the sublimation ink is in the printer it can only be used for sublimation. I have two different printers, this one for sublimation and then another one for my everyday paper printing. Since this is an easy fill type of printer there aren’t any cartridges that can be removed and put back in. The tank that takes the ink in is fixed to the machine. I hope this helps!

I was honestly kind of nervous myself but once I jumped in I was so relieved that it was pretty simple 🤗 Those hippo easy fill bottles are also very user friendly! I think that is a great idea to use the cricket easy press for T-shirts and then down the line you could always choose to invest in a heat machine if you want. I believe the one I used in the video is around $190 on Amazon but it did also come with some attachments. I have heard form others that another good option is to check Facebook Market Place for gently used ones in your area. Sometimes you can find a good deal if someone is looking to upgrade their heat press and want to sell their current one 💕😊
